Sony Ericsson launching mysterious new LiveView project on October 3
Sony Ericsson is preparing to announce a new project for the LiveView accessory that it launched last year. The new project is under wraps for now but all will be revealed next week on Monday 3 October. As a quick reminder, LiveView is a Bluetooth remote with a 1.3-inch OLED screen that is able to show incoming calls, calendar events, facebook and twitter feeds amongst other things from your Android phone.

The only clue we have is that SE has launched a new twitter account called @LiveViewLCF and it is asking people to guess what LCF could possibly stand for. The first person to guess it right will win a LiveView, although they won’t announce what it stands for until next week. We’ll bring you more news on this on Monday.

Is 10 years aniversary and is dying... how many time i have to repeat that phrase. Nothing special will show in the scene.

If introduce something big, they will kill Arc S before it`s arrival... I don`t know... but I don`t expect anything big like speculated Duo or else until January and CES.

I hope I`m wrong, but I don`t count on miracles.

Posted by ^^HAMID^^
Why do you people think that Arc s will die ? Arc s is arc! + 400 mhz !Nothing more... if any body has plan to buy arc will buy arc s instead! didn't spend so much on arc s production! That's like to say showing off Nozomi will affect on X10!

I remember saying that there was a new, slimmer LiveView in the developement a few months ago.

Looks like we are about to find out on Monday. Now, I wonder if they will announce anything else...

That video really made me felt very heart warming as an SE fan, at the same time it reminds me all the negativity this company has gone through....

I really wish Nozomi/Duo/"whatever it's called" would really be something that's really great. At least, it should be able to comparable to Softbank's Sharp 104SH in every aspect! Now, if that's possible, SE will shock every market, except the Japanese of course. Also, Sharp may be going global because they're going back to Europe now. So, if they do decide Global, SE is going to have another competitor, one that is not a slouch either....

Are you f kidding me? This phone is the biggest mistake has ever made! They should be ashamed of that failure, in lieu of giving is as a remarkable top-seller phone, marking their "success" in that year.

What, you have nothing better to show? Just one mediocre feature-phone?

Considering how Sharp have been selling their phones in the west before (and will be doing now), I hardly doubt they're a threat, even if they make awesome phones.

Though I agree SE should be more aggressive... QHD would be a nice start.

Honestly, I wouldn't announce a phone during a Saturday if I were a company myself (that statement sounds off and strange).

Unless it is a show like MWC or one of those electronic shows it is advisable to wait till the weekend is over. Monday is more like the perfect time to announce something, if that will happen depends entirely on SE.

@mediar

Spot on!

^^HAMID^^

That is what I have been saying, the Nozomi is in a different league to the arc or arc S. They should just unleash the phone and make more money. I even pointed out an example of Satio vs Vivaz, those two were on two different planes even if they were released at different times. People who want a true high-end would go with the Nozomi and the arc S would be a step below the Nozomi.

The arc S is also quite cheap as it is basically the arc in disguise so there won't really be any competition between the two.

There won't be any new phones! Dual core this year = crappy 45nm chip

We all know how terrible SE is at keeping a phone secret,so if anything was coming in 2011 we would have known already.I dont think that SE is going to announce any high-end phones for this year.Honestly i believe that's the right thing to do.They should wait and release phones based on 28nm chipsets and not 45nm/40nm that everyone is using now.

Because if release some superphone, Arc S will be no longer a flagship but mid-range phone... but with that price Arc S has no chance to compete in mid-range phone category. That`s why I think there be no other flagship phone form this year, or if there will be, then Arc S has to reduce it`s price... before it`s actual release.
It will be kinda strange market tactics, don`t you think?

I don`t know I just guessing...

Ten years ago, Japanese consumer electronics giant Sony Corp. and Swedish mobile-network vendor Telefon AB L.M. Ericsson put their mobile-phone units into a joint venture, creating Sony Ericsson in an effort to grab a profitable share of the booming global handset market.

It has been a bumpy ride. While the Swedish-Japanese hybrid enjoyed initial successes with its line of Walkman-branded music handsets and Cybershot camera phones, it has struggled to build major market share around the world, and, like rivals such as Motorola Mobility Holdings Inc. and Nokia Corp., has recently struggled to compete with Apple Inc

Sony Ericsson has experienced management turmoil two years ago, the appointment of former head Nordberg Ericsson Silicon Valley as CEO, replacing Sony's Hideki Komiyama (Hideki Komiyama). Nordberg made a radical decision: he abandoned the Symbian operating system and low-end market, and focus on Google Android operating system deployment strategy.

According to the U.S. market research firm Gartner, since he took office since Nordberg, Ericsson's global share has fallen sharply, from the third quarter of 2009 from 4.3% to 1.7% in the second quarter of this year,

In the East Japan earthquake and resulting tsunami after an impact on the supply chain, the company's most recent quarterly loss again. Sony Ericsson said that if not because of natural disasters, the company should be profitable. Nevertheless, the company can return to sustainable growth when there are still many questions.

Nordberg in an interview on the Sony Ericsson and consumer changes in the environment are described. The following summary of the interview:

Q: In your leadership, which has experienced the development of Sony Ericsson?

A: Since I took over Sony since the company is gradually reducing the need for investment in feature phones, smart phones and increase business. We are currently about 70% of sales from smart phones, is expected around the middle of next year, we will completely become a smart phone company.

We are still moving away from feature phone business, but has not loss. In fact, our current business is the production of a small computer with phone functionality. People often complain that our market share is too small, but important to note that we have abandoned the feature phone business, but can not be compared with Nokia and other large competitors.

Q: As the Android partners, we must quickly adapt to new technologies, rather than relying solely on the brand. But why are you in the dual-core chipset and LTE in the field is growing so slow?

A: We are into new technology very carefully, because: even if we introduce a new product, consumers may not buy.

But need to recognize is that when Apple introduced the iPhone in 2007, we should pay more attention. However, given the growth of the Android platform, the Android strategy we have been successful, and became our best choice.

Q: Do you want to at first have been ambitious to become the world's largest Android handset makers, but you are still currently very far from this goal, in the Android market share of only 11%. What is limiting your growth?

A: We underestimated the U.S. market penetration rate. We are weak in the U.S. market. Our PlayStation phone Xperia Pay has helped us with the U.S. carriers to establish a cooperative relationship, we also Verizon and AT & T with the agreement. We now need to expand the U.S. product portfolio.

Q: Motorola and Sony Ericsson's Android strategy is very similar. But they are "strong America, Western Europe is weak," you are "strong in Europe, the United States is weak." Have you thought about the acquisition of Motorola?

A: Indeed thought, but before that, you need to have sufficient funds. And the fair is very complicated between us, because we are a company with two major shareholders of private companies, and Motorola, a U.S. public company.

Q: There are a number of Android handset makers have expressed willingness to use other platforms such as Windows Phone. What are your thoughts?

A: Currently, we do not want to invest in a system as effective as the existing platform. Therefore, we will continue to use Android, but I am very curious Windows Phone.

Q: You once claimed you will be profitable, but still a loss last quarter, mainly because of the earthquake in Japan caused by the impact of the supply chain. Current situation? You learned from the current situation in Japan, what?

A: As with all businesses, we also use a JIT (Just-in-time) concept, so when the earthquake in Japan in March, our supply of inventory will soon be empty. But I think we were doing well in the environment, and June this year, has returned to normal.

Q: A major concern is that the global economy and global demand conditions. What impact this will have you?

A: The consumer sentiment will be affected, it is indeed a concern. Assuming consumers suddenly decided to postpone the three months to buy mobile phones, for handset manufacturers, which is equivalent to one month's earnings, it is a lot of money.

Q: You've seen these signs yet?

A: No, we have not found this. I do not think we will "apocalyptic."

This is just a translation of a translation so there will be some bad grammar!

It`s the most natural thing for - many phones with the same specs, just like this year... and still Qualcomm 1.5 GHz MSM8660 with Adreno 220 is 2.2x faster than the 1 GHz MSM8655 with Adreno 205, which is pretty good improvement.
If release them in Q1 2012... cause Samsung and HTC devices with tha same specs are already announced.

it`s not that bad...

but WMC 2012 most probably will bring 28nm from competitors I guess, and quad-cores of course.

this is a Sensation with 720p display . just like Desire HD and Arc

is a copy/paste from HTC after 6-12 months with some change like hdmi , bravia , exmor , etc

I think that SE is becoming a lot predictable nowadays.I mean Nozomi has started leaking out,and i am sure that it wont come out before March.Samsung has already announced a 1.5ghz dual-core exynos at 32nm,while qualcomm is going at 28nm for 2012.However it seems like SE will be stuck with old processors, once again.!!!!And Bert Nordberg in his interview, said that they are really cautious, when it comes to new technologies???Well that's why they will NEVER become top android manufacturer, because they are hesitant to use cutting-edge technologies.Look at how well samsung is performing with the galaxy s2,because they werent afraid to take some risks....I am really disappointed at how Bert runs Sony Ericsson,in the past used to attract all the people that were after cutting-edge products,....but no more..there is simply no enthusiasm...SE really needs to get its mojo back!!!Maybe it's time for a new president...

Posted by motvikt
Well I was hoping for ST ericsson at least. The problem now is that we are going to have 2011 all over again. SE will release nozomi and aoba (play2?), they will be highend in 2months or less. Then Samsung will release galaxy S3 with some new hardware and sell 20millons of those, then in summer, HTC will release a phone with krait. Nozomi is now mid-end. In exactly one year from now, we will sit in 2012 portfolio waiting for 2013; "the year of SE".

Posted by Ricky D
Don't want to be conroversial but I think Bert is doing a good job. He still needs to put some work in and make some decisions but has performed a miracle. I remember the last quarter of 2010 it was said they had till the following March to prove results and they're still standing aren't they?

Posted by Jmblue
Well, SE must really step up their game. 1.5 ghz will be common by next year MWC, with 1.5 ghz already released by samsung and htc. 720p screen will also be common ( htc Vigor, Nexus Prime ). To really stand out, SE must either use qualcomms 28nm krait processores or offer AMAZING battery life to even make an impact. They must also get the phone out FAST. Otherwise it will be just like any other phone in the market.

Posted by HxH
Big let down that's mean no love of Krait and 28nm until late of 2012 if going to sell this model in March. Last year, the Arc arrived in late March after Desire HD for 6 months and this year another 7-9 months follow Sensation which is announced in April 2011 that will be almost a year. SEVERELY DISAPPOINTED! After let's HTC stole the light of Qualcomm and even worse with recent ST-Ericsson platform debut, a half of their own parent company!

Bert's ambitious would be never come true as top Android manufacturer (or Yes! maybe HTC outing for WebOS and Samsung with Tizen).

Oh damn! look what Samsung did these day! offer latest-cutting edge and most powerful platform to date. They deserved it!

Posted by randomuser
OMG!!
I hope this is not true
This is going to be worse than Arc. 2012 flagship that is about as powerful as Samsung Galaxy s2 launched in Q2 2011 and same chipset as HTC EVO 3D and Sensation 4G that have been on sale since I believe August 2011.

If its true its real bad news for fans like me

Posted by nikos_se
After all, google encourages developers to offer cutting-edge technology on android.Look at microsoft for example. They have complete control over processor/gpu/ram,so that buyers wont care about the processor, but the screen, the camera and the design.Honestly,i could see sony ericsson performing well in that kind of enviroment. But,if they want to actually compete in the android market, they have to use the latest processors available, and not 9 months after there are actual android phones available with the same processor. Also, they have to categorize their portfolio better. It's cool that all the 2011 xperia lineup had 1ghz/512mb/adreno 205,however i do want my 500-600eur phone,to perform better than my 200eur phone.I think that there is a strong indication that will continue to be behind as fas as cpu/gpu/ram goes for 2012.

And dont forget that it is the smartphone business,we are talking about here.People that run to buy a 500-600eur phone ,are the same people, that spend hundreds of euros/dollars to upgrade their pc/laptop,every year.So sony ericsson has to offer them the latest tehcnology available,if they want to actually sell a phone for 500eur+.

Posted by HxH
Then make it at reasonable with mid-end hardware & price tag together, I might re-considered again cause if this news is correct and going to sell Nozomi as their flagship it would expensive as others using latest tech with no gap in software this time (HTC is king with Sense Experience for long time and Samsung TouchWiz is much better improved in S2 and if S3 change into Samsung style not Apple it will make real appeal to me someday).

I'm witness of Arc not really performed so well in market since it launch and have case cracked after 2 months and chrome peeled in 4 months, what I could say it after all, I already gave another chance after brought a major screw up SATIO with hefty price tag. The Arc is my potential handset upgrade as SATIO aged 2 years replacement later this year but I would love to see going to offer next after Arc and Adreno 220 with 45nm probably is that offer in world of 28nm competition ....... Oh damn well!

Only edge is pure design but if not come with proper tech and reasonable tag, it could mean nothing to me this time.

I'm sorry about overwhelm fuzzy today but I do really disappointed!

Incidentally, last year the first prototypes of Arc / Anzu had the 7230 chip from qualcomm like Desire Z, but was released on 8255, so it may well be that this is not final, but test hardware.

Posted by nikos_se
I dont think that it is test hardware..Because there is a "huge" size difference between 28nm and 45nm,and we all know that space in mobile phones,is used really carefully...After all,"Nozomi" or whatever it is gonna be called wont be a bad phone, just like arc is not a bad phone. It just needs the right pricing...I wouldnt complain if arc had a 16gb flash memory and had launched for 399eur...actually i think it could have done reasonably well...But the arc launched for 550eur+,which i think is gonna be the case with "Nozomi" as well..

Oh noes, a 1.5 Ghz dual core processor with one of the most advanced mobile GPUs on the market? What is SE thinking? /sarcasm

Seriously, though, why ON EARTH would you need something more powerful at this time? What app would be so heavily demanding that would require even more advanced hardware??

+ there's the battery life thing

You do know that 32nm/28nm processors consume noticeable less power than 45nm processors.+Try telling that to all those millions that prefered galaxy s2/sensation etc, than xperia arc.I dont think that design or ui was the reason.People that buy high-end products, want the latest technology, and that's it.Sony Ericsson should finally make up their minds.Either go for the 150-450eur market, that made them famous,or if they want to go for higher prices, then they have to use the best and the latest in the mobile industry.Simple as that.
