Well, so it seems that all we get this year is a single core CPU device clocked at 1.4 ghz, launching with gingerbread. With the news that Google will, in all probability, roll out dual core powered ice cream sandwich devices in Oct, followed by others, I somehow fail to see what SE is going for here. This device may sell, IF priced right, but that's not the point. Where is the innovation? SE is just playing 'follow the leader' now.
Hopefully. we'll see a strong H1 2012 lineup from SE, otherwise, things will start looking bleak.
Read an interview of Bert recently in which he said that its important to note the 'Sonyness' of SE of late, which will also stand for the future. And he said LTE phones are coming in 2012. e what SE is going for here. This device may sell, IF priced right, but that's not the point. Where is the innovation? Nordberg interview
btw...Sony Ericsson (NTT DoCoMo to be precise) will launch a device codenamed Nozomi in Japan this september. It apparently sports a 4.3 inch touchscreen and has a screen resolution of 1280x720 pixels and will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8655T clocking 1.4GHz. It will launch with android 2.3.4. Probably Ayame will share the same specs.
A dual core from SE's stable is not expected before next year :-|

Looking at the line of SE smartphones, it is clear that they have dropped the 3 button silver curve at the bottom of the handset to two touch buttons and a physical home one. Do you think this will be the new style of their phones?

Yeap I've noticed that, and I hate it... I just hate soft keys

The Japanese phone sounds exciting.
I think the three / four button X10 type button layout is being phased out as it doesn't seem to be appearing on the new phones. The current layout, that we see on the new minis and X-Ray appeared first on the Sony X Series, not sure which one I prefer, although I prefer the 3 button to the 4 button layout.

I actually prefer them if I'm honest, when your playing around it's kind of annoying to have to press a hardware button, whereas a touch button is like its still within the touch screen experience if you know what I mean... It's also better interms of hygiene and the handsets life, the fewer hardware buttons the less likely they are going to get worn and eventually stop working, and you don't get dirt problem which goes in the gap around the buttons

i used defy.. it eases the navigation with 4 capacity buttons.
when use touch screen combined with hard keys for navigation i really find uncomfortable ..
i strongly suggest SE to use capacitive buttons.

I like the newer Xperia button arrangement; it's still nice to have at least one hard button on the front.

I think in Ice Cream Sandwich the buttons will go anyway, at least on the tablets. The buttons move as you shift from portrait to landscape.

Android Ice Cream Sandwich pictures leak
What can we learn from these? Well, the big stuff is obviously all the UI changes - namely, blue: everywhere. But you can see that the notification bar has been totally revamped for the first time since Éclair
-Brand-new launcher and app drawer, with screenshots of both featured exclusively on RootzWiki - with what appears to be a task switcher icon on the homescreen, though it could be something else.
-Camera now has a panorama mode (not pictured)
-Gmail has been totally re-themed to go with the new OS (not pictured)
-Mostly UI changes - many older devices (< 1 year old) should be able to run it.
-The little icon in the bottom right, looks like a tray with multiple apps in it Similar to Mini Series UI[PIC 1]
-Apps/Widgets launcher a lot like Honeycomb
-This release is still very early, notice the theming of the power tray
Note
Device seen is Nexus s

Battery icon and ...
Can it be SE's customization?

All 2011 Xperia Phones right now are Graced with Bravia Mobile Engine(Sony Bravia) and Exmor-R Sensors(Sony Cyber-shot), The only thing missing is Walkman Brand and should Boost the User Interface and Sound Quality for Xperia
Sound Chip? + Music Controls + Gesture Controls(Walkman Key) + Light Effects and the Famous Walkman Player(hopefully the Evolved version Suited for Xperia)

yea, X-Loud is already in Xperia, but that is not walkman, They must Integrate Walkman Features too not just the walkman player though
Posted by king-james
XLoud is just a small nice feature, not something big. It makes your loudspeaker a lil bit more powerful with better sound quality. But nothing more.
I also would wish that SE would install some video codecs for the player, to can open divX/Xvid Videos like Samsung or LG does, in the next Upgrade.
Posted by adsada
on the iPhone, they use the 'iPod' branding on the media player app. Why can't SE realise a 'Walkman' app for all xperia models which would have great intuitive features etc? That could really give them a boost, instead of continually making crap low end devices with the branding on it.

SAD TRUTH
Gartner released their report on the mobile phone world in the second quarter and have something very interesting in their numbers.
.
Sony Ericsson has continued to slip and is now below all well-known makers, including Huawei.
“Consumers in mature markets are choosing entry-level and midrange Android smartphones over feature phones, partly due to carriers’ and manufacturers’ promotions." However, replacement sales in Western Europe showed signs of fatigue as smartphone sales declined quarter-on-quarter..

Sonyericsson. It was fun while it lasted.

Well... At least it's still listed... Because it might soon join the "Others" group...
Posted by Consumology
When you see these numbers and read the interview with the CEO a few pages back it really makes you wonder on what kind a dope this whole leadership section is: "We are open to a second operating system". Man, you cannot even deliver enough phones on Android. And don't tell me it was the earthquake, rather tell me where the Android Cybershots, the Andoid Walkmans and the Android all in one Top Models are. If you had those then the numbers were surely different.
Posted by adsada
you need to see their income to really judge anything, even if the units are down, the average price for their handsets could have gone up. Manufacturers that produce dirt cheap budget phones are ones that would surely look good in this data?

all major providers are giving their 3g usb modem away for free
after all this statistics show number of "mobile devices" sold

Oct 1. Guess that'll be the day they announce a dual core maybe? One thing is certain though. SE is not shipping a dual core this year.
2012. Make or break year for SE. I hope they come through and deliver a stellar punch. Faith in them I have. May the force be with SE

I think that Sony Ericsson devices provided excellent so far , cause of the low sales is primarily Japan earthquake that caused the delay devices , Therefore no new devices = not great sales October 1, Sony Ericsson will announc some 3-4 new android phone LIKE LT18 , SK19 , MT11 for Q4 But I doN't know about time of announcement of Xperia DUO .
I expect the 3Q and 4Q Sony Ericsson compensate the losses and return to profit .

@mariozip
The Satio example was just to highlight what will be the wow factor if a stellar device is launched without it being leaked. Satio was a good device, let down by the OS.
@back2you
We know Ayame is the LT18. What do we know about SK 19 and MT 11?
And Duo? Does SE ever announce devices in Nov/Dec? Duo might be announced this year but will surely launch only next year.
