GOOD NEWS Welcome eyes narrow, and the owners of the great minds

Sony Ericsson strengthens links with Sony through appointment of Bob Ishida as Deputy CEO

28 July 2011
July 28, 2011, London – Sony Ericsson today announces that Yoshihisa (Bob) Ishida will be joining Sony Ericsson as Deputy CEO and Executive Vice President with effect from 1 September. Rikko Sakaguchi will be leaving Sony Ericsson to take up a position at Sony Corporation.

Bob will be based at Sony Ericsson’s largest R&D facility in Lund, Sweden where he will take up the assignment as Deputy CEO and EVP. He will have responsibility for Sony Ericsson’s design centre and product and portfolio development teams as well as taking on a broader executive role to enhance integration and alignment across Sony Ericsson.

Bob is currently Corporate Executive, SVP, in charge of Platform & Partner Strategy and President of Sony’s Home Entertainment Business Group. He previously served as President of Sony’s TV Business Group as well as VAIO Business Group at Sony Corporation. He has a history of delivering strong results as part of Sony Corporation’s core leadership team within a range of disciplines across consumer electronics, IT and communications. Bob has recently been involved in developing the Android-based Sony Internet TV.

Bob Ishida commented: ‘I am excited about taking up the role of Deputy CEO and EVP at Sony Ericsson. Working closely with Bert Nordberg and the management team we will further strengthen the existing product portfolio by integrating content and services while leveraging the partnership with Sony and other key strategic partners’.

Bob’s appointment will provide greater focus on the integration of content and services into Sony Ericsson’s product portfolio. He will contribute to the company’s technology strategy that will deliver on Sony Ericsson’s ambition of becoming a leader in Android.

Rikko Sakaguchi has been part of the leadership of Sony Ericsson since the start up of the Joint Venture in 2001 most recently as Chief Creation Officer overseeing product and portfolio development. Since 2001 Rikko has provided a creative vision and strong leadership as Sony Ericsson built its brand through innovative music and imaging devices. More recently he has been instrumental in guiding the company as it develops Android smartphones which bring together communication and entertainment through a focused and innovative product portfolio.

Rikko Sakaguchi will continue to support Sony Ericsson in his new role at Sony Corporation. Further details of his new assignment will be communicated shortly.

44x32mm screen size ?!?!
isn`t it that too small for that resolution, cause that mean 2,2 inches diagonal?

Model name of the phone point to smaller model, so it should be smaller screen, but 2,2 with 854x480 will be most crispier and absolutely unreadable screen.

Read carefully

that is not the screen size, that's (ScreenSizeChar), AFAIk Char is a short for character... but I don't know what's the real meaning of this...

I we don't know which unit is used here

< prf:ScreenSizeChar>44x32< /prf:ScreenSizeChar> 44x32 its not screen size and it is in pixels, not milimeters

Qriocity video streaming coming to 2011 Xperia range..

Sony Ericsson has announced that a Qriocity video service will be coming exclusively to Xperia handsets from 1 August. The service will initially roll out in nine countries (UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Australia, Japan, Canada and the United States)

SE claims that the service will present a friendly way to buy or rent movies or TV shows from some of the biggest studios including from NBC, Universal, Paramount, Sony Pictures, Twentieth Century Fox and Warner Bros. The first handsets to get Qriocity video will be the Xperia mini and Xperia mini pro. It will also come to the Xperia active and Xperia ray on launch. Other 2011 Xperia handsets including the Xperia arc, Xperia neo, Xperia PLAY and Xperia pro will get the app through a software update later in the year. We expect further details to be announced shortly including pricing and whether video content can be downloaded for off-line viewing.

The only problem with those specs is the xperia ray is exactly that unless we're talking a 3MP camera.

Posted by kewsvnet
hmm..phone keypad!!

i kinda like strategy while they are not in the processor race they are coming up with same spec phones but in different form factors to cater to different markets who don't all want a massive phone touchscreen phone

A new updated Xperia Home Launcher is coming with the next update ( which is supposed to be 2.3.4 )

Changes includes
1- A new ‘Theme’ function in settings (although this is not yet active).
2- Changes to the app drawer and widget overview. The app drawer now includes a button on the bottom right that allows you to uninstall apps directly.
3- The Widget overview now has a neat touch where widgets float around, also when you shake the phone the widgets fly over the screen.
4- Some other testers ( from se4m.com ) reports faster overall experience on most parts..

We have tested this on a Xperia X10, Xperia arc and PLAY and it seems to work without any problems.

BTW, the launcher is already leaked, you can grap the apk from here...

They really need to introduce auto rotate on the home screens. Hopefully it will come on all new phones.

Posted by mediar
I don't know whether you have seen this, but the "new" home screen on the pictures above is the same one as the one on Xperia ray - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jG4wbN6GUJI , http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59BIOP0-VIA&feature=related ( 1:47 ). High quality picture:

And it looks a bit different than the stock Arc/Neo's one:

You can see that the rectangles, showing the number of pages, have changed. And the bottom bar has become darker. And the background waves of the music and media widgets have changed.

And one more thing I noticed - look at this video from CES 2011 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s0G9LgFarsU. At 1:41 we have a very good view of the screen. There I can see, that the music widget has a different play/next/forward buttons, similar to the one in the official photos - http://techno-mobile.eu/files/products/1267.jpg . But later they changed them to a more simple ones, like on the two pictures above. Why? The original look better.

I think the new buttons look better - i.e. more polished.

The interface has enough faux 3D as it is...

@mediar

you're correct, was working on the update and AFAIK it's for all 2011 Xperia range ( or maybe limited to Arc, Neo, Pro & Ray duo to screen resolution, Mini and Mini Pro has different home launcher duo to smaller screen size )... but some already installed it on X10 without a problem

How can you claim you know a lot about and still manage to post crap like this?
If you knew anything about new models you would not confuse the real thing with concepts.

I don't think posting concepts is helping really guys. We'd rather have a partial glimpse of the real thing.

Posted by Dups!
Haven't some of you learned from countless 'insiders' or people who have a father/uncle/sister and even a grandmother who works for SE?

Stop believing people's wishes or fantasies.

Anyway, I hope SE will release their dual core phone this year, preferably in Q4, to keep in touch with the leading manufacturers.

Well, I don't trust you not back2you...

back2you is a reliable source... but some guys here don't put into their account that this is a rumor section + any leak can be changed due to company policy or R&D team decisions or even cost, mass production problems or any other reason...
just look at his list of changes and info he shared with us and see what has been already became true when some guys here said he's a liar !!

I think concepts are too much to be known by every body... a lot of times peoples confuse these concepts and think these are leaked phones...

Posted by goldenface
So still six phones to come this year. It's almost hard to imagine how they're going to differentiate them all from each other.

It looks like this nearly 2 months old post from back2you got lost somehow . So the WT19i targets the mid-range market. Unfortunately it looks like the same story (X8->W8) all over again (ST15i->WT19i).

Posted by FMW300
Damn, screen size will be 320 x 480, meaning Xperia mini size. I was hoping for a larger res walkman droid. Unless there's a walkman in the works that info hasn't for as yet, I might have to settle for either Ray or Pro, cause I want one b4 the end of the year....
