should immediately announce and release the flagship phone with dual-core, (minimum) qHD display, 3D screen, 3D camera, 3D video, (minimum) 1GB RAM, with larger internal memory not like Arc that has only 386 MB(?) available (where is SE's Android with 16GB? 32GB?)

And one more important thing: don't give customer the more-than-ten-times-a-day "force close" of SE Home..!!!

How can Eldar say the Play has failed in all markets when it hasn't launched in the US, it's targeted market, yet.

Posted by smclion102
the only reason Xperia PLAY didnt shine cause there where limited games.
Once Sony launches there 2 tablets there will be plenty more games and in Q4 after NGP launch there will be lots n lots of games and PLAY-2[If has plans to launch] will be a hit.

NGP for hardcore gamers
PLAY-2 for Mob Gamers.
Both products for Different Fields They wont clash. I am Hoping for a Dual Core PLAY-2 Nxt MWC2012

Posted by badassmam
There won't be a Play-2 unless the sales of Play-1 can justify it. Its unlikely that anyone will make Play only games because they would rather make iPhone games that don't require keys, thats the way forward. I'm surprised that PS1 titles like Tekken 3, Gran Turismo 2 and some of the best selling games are not available. It has no support so its bound to fail. There is a list of companies and games titles that are to come on the Play which did give me hope at first but if you can only get Crash Bandicoot, you get the impression that nobody give a toss anymore. I'd only buy it if someone hacks PS1 ROMs onto it successfully, that would definitely be worth it because of the pad.

Posted by sambouka
@badassmam
You can play most of PS1 titles on it. I HAVE !!!

The Playstation player is : FPse for android you can get it from Market, plays most of the PS1 games.
You have to get the roms from the web.

Look at my video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmjslGVrbh4

Posted by badassmam
^That's brilliant and I have the same on my Desire but are not liking this so I would wait to see if they clamp down since they would want to make money by selling the games themselves. The emulator was pulled from the Android market and I can see the evil Sony killing it off completely so I'll wait. This emulator is actually much better than the pre-installed one. I've got my eye on it because you essentially have loads of excellent PS1 games that you can play again and again, Gran Turismo would take ages to finish

Sony's SmartAR Demoed Live
A new live-demo shows Sony's markerless object recognition system focusing on posters, tables, books, and coffee cups in lieu of the traditional AR card -- allowing it recognize multiple objects at once. Focusing on objects rather than markers allow augmented entities to interact more naturally with their environment.
Amazing Technology.Hopefully This is Coming to MOBILE too i guess..

That facebook contest is great, hope my entry gets through. The walkman is what interests me the most, partially cause its a walkman, mostly cause its A200 in touchscreen form. Screw android, that software's the shit. Best part is that this isn't the china one for the west, so this could possibly have a better camera.

I think, adopting the interface of the A200 known from classic phones with buttons for touch-screens, but in a better way than Nokia did with their S60, would be a greater solution, with some new and innovative added elements.
But using the interface what they developed for android is a cheaper solution. I think the first solution I'we mentioned wouldn't have needed much more resources and money than actualising the interface from android for their own operating system.

That's very cool. I think someone should post it on other sites(gsmarena). Anyway, I'm just wondering what's the difference between this SmartAR and the augmented reality of Nintendo 3Ds?

Price?

CEO of Sony Ericsson, Bert Nordberg was in Moscow and Eldar Murtazin shares some insight on the phone manufacturing company with the masses after receiving some information from the head honcho himself. To nobody’s surprise, Sony Ericsson will lose market share worldwide in the forseeable future – we are talking about a losing streak of up to 5 quarters, and the company has failed to gain any profit worldwide either. This does not seem to bode well, but Sony Ericsson is doing their darndest best to release new models at a higher price point in order to generate a profit but will stop offering software support.

Software support is essential, but you can tell from the past symptoms that all is not well when Sony Ericsson Android phones tend to be the last to receive a firmware or operating system update, and sometimes not at all. The product line for next year is still in shambles, and Sony Ericsson has failed to cobble together enough resources for the entire product line.

To add more doom and gloom, regional headquarters will close in select markets as there is currently a surplus of marketing managers. Expect the axe to fall next year – at least this gives them ample warning to look for a new job from now on.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play is said to be a “huge mistake” as sales have been disappointing right from the start. In a last ditch effort to revive sales, the price will be revised downward this coming September 2nd – why not now, Sony Ericsson? As for the focus in target markets, they will be just looking at US, Russia, China and Germany. Nordberg is also said to resign next year – do you think the man deserves a golden handshake?

They just can't seem to get the strategy business side of things right.

Well, this is what Eldar tweeted:

SE *2. New strategy. Trying to produce a few models with higher price but provide longer software support.

Ubergizmo making things up?!

Absolute rubbish!

The latest Android phones have Gingerbread with only the Nexus S having the same before them.

There are plenty of phones being released now with lesser software versions.

Actually Xperia Neo is way too expensive here in Bulgaria - it's around 500 euro, compared to ( for example ) HTC Desire HD - 400 euro, HTC Desire S - 380 euro, Samsung Galaxy S - 320 euro, LG Optimus 2X - 490 euro. Having such a high price, it's not a surprise that no one is buying Sony Ericsson's phones. Not to mention Arc's price - 550 euro and Xperia Plays's price 530 euro! That's DAMN expensive...

Posted by dothan
Keep in mind that all of those models are not selling officially in Bulgaria. That someone is importing them and selling them overpriced in not a SE fault.

Posted by Xajel
AFAIK All new 2011 Xperia line is experiencing shortages duo to Japan's earthquake crisis which stopped SE from receiving crucial parts these phones requires with no alternative source...

some countries like Australia, Bulgaria, some ME contries ( including Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, Jordan, etc.. ) and a of other countries didn't receive the phone(s) officially, some other countries did have the phone(s) but only in limited quantity like for example UAE and KSA and you may or not find what you're looking for.

lately Sony Ericsson ME Facebook posted that some phones like Arc & Neo will regain their mass availability in July & August...

Personally I think the Eximor sensor has been one of main reasons for the delay I think these sensors are made in Japan and production was heavily affected by the earthquake. that's why Play doesn't have the same shortage problem as what Arc and Neo have as it doesn't use that sensor

Camera sensor and LED backlit screen as well

SE - strategy, current goals, products etc by Eldar

Well, let see if X8 will run 2.3 in the future and another word eating for for good people will happy for this

Sony provide some nice resources for them, this time I hope Ericsson will as well. I mean NovaThor 9600

As for material, at least not nightmare finger magnet like glossy, it would be my pleasure and don't feel cheap somehow

I don't feel Japan market as hero but probably above average because it tough competition with Sharp as well many others

Last Q1 financial result, I read that borrowed some money worth 375m (total of 604m euro) (probably cause of Japan's disaster)
they will have at least 1-2 more years to stay up and have another fight, so it no resources for R&D pity you Eldar

About recycle design, every manufacture always do why point out only and do less, I don't agreed with him this matter.
earns top spot in term of design if going to follow trend it will be kind of suicide.

About marketing, I think Eldar assume this based on his regional news not that global.
But it might be good idea if they want to reduce some expenditure during bad times.

Posted by motvikt
Nice to see some info, especially the part about x8; smart move! Eldar is mixing personal thoughts with facts though. Why would Bert say things that could hurt the company and why would he think the partners need to know that?

"3. Product line for 2012 is not clear. SE havent enough resources in R&D for the whole product line. 8-9 models with some variants."

Personal opinion, Bert probably said they are going with 8-9 models

"Company will lost market share worldwide in next 4-5 quarters. In 2q se will show lost in volume/money. No profit worldwide."

Bulltshit. Why would he say that, and how would he even know that now. Bert always say they will loose market share but profits will go up. Eldar is making his own assumption as usual

Posted by Bonovox
We still don't have Neo in UK

Posted by Karun
So what Eldar meant was that there will be an Android version update for X8, an updated model-successor of X8, or both?

Posted by Legen
sony ericsson kept their promise

http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_[....]te_start_rolling-news-2691.php

positive change right? Eldar is talking out his butt again?

Posted by Shino03
"Company will lost market share worldwide in next 4-5 quarters. In 2q se will show lost in volume/money. No profit worldwide."

I think no one could exactly predict that. It's too early to say that they'll lose market share in the next consecutive quarters and will have no profits at all. When analysts said, is for sure going down, it didn't go as what everyone expected. No one could tell unless Eldar is a fortune teller

Android 2.3.4 update coming to Xperia line this October

Posted by HxH
Eldar is right about lost volume and no profit but he's overstate about number, I think

Mainly about effect of Japan's disaster cause them not enough product to supply through out market for at least half of next quarters.

Referred, to recently news if will be back into mass production of Arc / Neo in July and August, then Q4 should be fine with lower price tag

Posted by Karun
On the X8 update. There's still no clarity.

1.Here's what Eldar said:

For instance, we will see update for X8, and also we will receive updated version of X8 (very soon). Both models will run latest version of Android.

2. SE Belgium on Facebook:
See here,
SE Belgium - "The update comes, we are finalizing him. This can be expected early in June

3. SonyEricssonUK tweets:

No, we can confirm that the Xperia™ X8 will not be upgraded past 2.1. We apologise for any confusion caused.
