Oh, c'mon... N8's slightly better quality won't make you a better photographer

That's true but 3x optical zoom together with the new Exmor R sounds more exciting than N8's sensor

When I saw the new xperia mini, I've started to think to buy one, when it will be launched. The only disadvantage would be the lack of xenon flash. I hope this Cyber-shot android will have xenon flash, with no more than 8 mp camera and an HVGA resolution screen would be enough too. With a decent size and reasonable price it would be a really nice phone. With more than 8 mp it would't take better pictures just it would be more expensive. A bigger screen would result a larger and more expensive phone. I hope its price won't be higher than 300 euro.

You've a good point but to me it looks like a large phone (screen size of 4" and maybe even more). Hoping there'll be a mini version of it, too

Add 3x optical zoom and the N8 is sure going to retire.

optical zoom degrades image quality, i would be much more happy with 16MP + 10fps shutter and HHT (handheld twighlight) that would easily destroy N8 for night photography imo

Posted by goldenface
Guys, I would be very wary of grainy pictures like that.

To me it looks like a mock up using a black Xperia Arc, with the buttons from the new Mini photoshopped on.

Posted by motvikt
Picture (not the phone) looks fake as hell. Looks like one of those cybershot fakes we saw in the thread "soon announcement" (or something like that) here in rumor section.

But the keys on the phone makes me think its maybe real. Looks like something SE would go for. A photoshop would probably copy one existing keypad or just make a entirely new one thats not connected to SE. But this one feels like a SE design, and everyone has been asking for a satio2 (SE knows that).

I have hope. Think this is the new dualcore

Posted by goldenface
I would love for it to be real but somehow the bottom of the phone doesn't look right.

Posted by Xajel
mmmm, looks promising.. I liked the concept, not the keys which I see - from a designer perspective - as photoshoped !

I believe the main idea behind Cyber-Shot and Walkman now is becoming blur since the first devices went for centeric device, I mean if it was Walkman then it will lack a nice camera and vise-versa... this what make certain devices go good with sales when they're bundled with a nice combination of both ( a walkman device with nice camera and picture quality ).. later customers and SE fans requested a combination of both worlds... this is when the Entertainment unlimited brand comes with Satio... Very high-end device but with an OS that is a disaster...

I think SE should rethink about Xperia series, I mean what are these actually, and try to bring back the Entertainment unlimited series but with different market segments ( not every one will love a $500+ device )... the Xperia Neo and Arc are perfect, they just need a little bit more work regarding the multimedia side ( specially docking station )

I just hope SE works on a unified way to have all their Android phones share a unique ports position ( like left side ) with both Audio and USB ports ( which support MHL too )...

Will it be during the Google i/o?

Posted by >500
im not photoshop expert but.... isnt it very hard (perhaps not even possible?) to have a reflection put in the pic? There is clearly a door and hand seen in the screens reflection.

Perhaps the surrounding of the pic has been edited.

I dno, just my 2 cents!

Putting a reflection in is one of the easiest things you could do in photoshop.

Still, though, this look kinda legit. This is obviously a photo of a screen that shows the phone. Still not sure, though.

Posted by tranced
What? Digital zoom does. Or am I missing something?

If it is real, then its pretty slim for a phone that might contain Xenon.

Posted by Xajel
If it's 16MP ( regardless of FullHD or not ) and AFAIK SE has a deal with Qualcomm, then the CPU should be 8260 or 8660

- Dual Core @ 1.2 ( 1.2 or 1.5 for 8660 )
- Adreno 220 GPU
- Dolby 5.1
- Both support 3D
- MSM 8660 adds CDMA ( not supported in MSM 8260 )

MSM 8260 is being used in HTC Sensation
MSM 8660 is being used in HTC EVO 3D

Does anyone have a code name for this device (if it exists) and does anyone know where the cyber-shot pictures originate from?

Let's go back to the new naming system.

The first letter means the size and the second letter the input method

The numbers....we don't know.

@huiyi: a200? How come?

Must be for the chinese market or thereabouts.

Google Announces Commitment to Timely Android Updates

Google partnering with all major US carriers, vodafone, and several major OEMs to bring a guarantee to provide "timely" updates to the latest version of Android for an 18-month period after release, providing an answer to the problem of fragmentation.

Google's announcement remains somewhat vague however, with no clear definition of the word "timely" which could be interpreted quite a number of ways. We have no word from Google if this applies only to new phones released or existing devices that are still within the 18-month period. Also worth mentioning is that many smartphone buyers are not early adopters; several months pass before they purchase their device, which leaves only a portion of the 18-month guaranteed upgrade period available. Other Android device manufacturers such as ASUS and Dell are also missing from the list, and the carrier partnerships indicate a possible focus on devices with cellular radios such as smartphones rather than other Android devices.

Hopefully we will have faster updates

Coming Q4 Ice Cream Sandwich Merges Phone and Tablet Versions of Android

Google's upcoming version of its Android mobile operating system, code-named Ice Cream Sandwich, will merge the two different versions of Android in existence today. At present, Android-based smartphones run Gingerbread (Android 2.3) or older, while Android-based tablet computers run Honeycomb (Android 3.0). With Ice Cream Sandwich, due out later this year, that situation will begin to change.
According to Google, Ice Cream Sandwich will intelligently adapt itself to the form factor it's running on and provide developers with APIs to modify other elements of the interface when needed. For example, developers will be able to change the size of the above-mentioned Action Bar, so it takes up more or less room on the screen.
As Google describes Ice Cream Sandwich, which seems to have no version number attached at present, it will be the "one OS, everywhere." And by everywhere, Google really means everywhere.

So i guess from Q4 we will see
proper Use of Dual Core handsets.Hopefully launches a kickAss Dual core phone this Q4 with this OS
