Can't wait to see the full review now and the official specs, they really need to get this phone out ASAP and they will be on to a real winner. I'm also glad they used the design of the Vivaz which is quite unique, it's hard to stand out from the crowd, with a lot of the phones looking like clones of each other.

Oh, and thanks to the guys who have 'liked' this thread. You know who you are.

Is this "Halon" device getting also "Pro" version with keyboard?

It would make sense for one to appear. So far, we know of four names which have been trademarked by Play, Duo Neo and Arc.

They might name the X10 Mini and Pro successors as being the Xperia Mini and Xperia Mini Pro.

We still don't know for sure what the MT15 / Hallon will be named, do we?

The back of the Halon reminds me of the Samsung Monte

Posted by Ricke77
Heey! No cursing in here... Samsung... OMG!

Posted by Bonovox
It's just similar shape at the back

Posted by goldenface
I wouldn't say they were that alike You could easily pick them out in the dark.

I have to say that this is looking more like my next phone than Xperia Arc is up to now but I'll wait to see the real thing before I decide. They seem to have given hallon the most amount of specs for your bucks:

3.5mm (int he right place)
hdmi
Video-calling
Gingerbread
8MP cam
HD Recording
Dedicated Cam button

Seeing how it is not a very slim device, it would have been great if they managed to squeeze in Xenon Flash as well as you don't see many of them around any more.

so let me get this straight...

apart from arc having bigger screen hallon has same specs yet also has more features but costs a lot less in price?

makes perfect sense to me..........

Seems like SE got game once more.

Suddenly we all love Eldar here don't we.

Like I said over last couple years he doesn't really make stuff up sometimes can be a bit harsh on one point or another and obviously like any source dealing in speculation and unreleased devices sometimes he will get it wrong but on the whole his track record is pretty damn good.

He likes the new Halon cos it makes sense in my view, it's got good/great features properly implemented and an up to date OS and looks like (fingers X'd) it's going to be released in a timely fashion and as importantly at a price to feature ratio that makes it a very strong competitor. Also looks not bad (at least different to rest of Android me-too devices - actually quite like Moto Defy for same reasons).

Good luck SE looks like they've taken the lessons on board and have made a decent effort, now they stand some chance of progress - it will be tough of course with the massively increased competition in this area (if only they hadn't squandered 2006-2009 they really could have been on top, but nature of the beast you snooze you lose.). Quick last point the noises being made by the board about their past and recognition of where problems have occurred was very encouraging, to fix something first you have to acknowledge there is a problem (something Nokia are in denial about at the moment). Funnily enough in some ways this might be more comfortable ground for Sony as a Premium Wintel PC maker they must be familiar with glitzy hardware with a few software enhancements on top without having to manage the OS/UI something SE proved completely incapable of.

Errrm, no offence but how did you work that one out?

Posted by snoFlake
Well the Mobile-Review article is being given credence and is being quoted here giving it traction rather than the normal berating of Eldar and "what does he know he's always biased against SE". You should hear what the Nokia fanbois have to say about hi these days, well suffice to say he's probably not expecting Birthday Presents from AAS.

Rather its like "he hates SE even its a pretty good device, when he likes it it must be super"

Posted by goldenface
Understood snoFlake

Some posters on here agree with him and some don't and some are indifferent, just like they are on other forums. Well may be a few more fanboys than most )

Regardless, it's a bit far fetched to imagine that fanboys of all persuasions will automatically fall to their knees and love Eldar again because of one positive preview of a prototype, wouldn't you think?

Posted by NightBlade
Has anyone even bothered checking that the preview wasn't even written by Eldar?

Posted by Phoner
@NightBlade It is Eldar. No questions about that. And the initials ME and EM are not just a coincidence...

Now...it is hard to choose...

1. I like Arc for its design, nice shape, bigger screen, bravia engine, LED backlighting...... but mainly for the looks.

2. Hallon has front camera and cheaper price....

Is Hallon using LED backlighting ?

Posted by FMW300
I really don't understand. How can these two devices be in completely different price brackets, yet they have exactly the same features, except one has a smaller screen plus a front camera? It doesn't take a genius to figure out Hallon is the better deal here. Isn't cannibalising their own product sales with closely overlapping products like these?

Posted by rizzamarv
Why don't we all just wait and see what the market prices in the end are. maybe the price difference will only be 100Euros in the end, which would also make much more sense to me....

After the crazy leak fest which has been going on for the past months now I wonder if SE has anything at MWC which will surprise us (except the confirmation of specs). Suspect we will see the following devices:

Xperia Play (Plasystation phone)
Hallon
Mini Successor
Mini with Keyboard ???

Basically considering the leaks we have seen the announcement of these device is inevitable.

But I want something which has not been leaked....
Please SE gives a surprise

Like Goldenface said, I dont think hallon have exmor and bravia. That would make NO sense at all. Our dear Eldar must have got that part wrong

I guess we will see all the 2011 phones with Bravia Engine no more regular TFT..
How much do u think a regular 8.1mp will cost against 8.1 Exmor ?? i dont think it will be very big difference. Am guessing This Hallon also Has Exmor.
More over Hallon has Front facing Cam[which is suppose to be better than others]
But we see such huge difference in COST this doesnt make sense..we are missing something..
In ARC forum I read that UK ARC will get 32GB Card + Mini HDMI cable in the BOX maybe cause of this there is cost difference + extra for the sexy Design..

When I look at the pictures with screen turned off it looks more like X10 one rather then Arcs one... not being that black, but that may be just from the pictures.
Also the back cover has two bulbs at the top and bottom edges which look kinda strange but apart from that this phone is a real beast and if the price range will be around 350euro it`s going to be bestseller for sure.
Damn this phone already make our choice tough between Hallon and Arc!

The Arc's biggest competitor yet will be unveiled Feb 13th in Barcelona. (Flagship vs Flagship not hardware) Samsung Galaxy S2. It seems to have followed the same design philosophy as Arc Less than 9mm thick

4.3 inch high res Super AMOLED 2 screen. Ofcourse rest of it there is no comparison It will feature the most powerful dual core platform - Samsung Orion. Only the ST Ericsson U8500 equals it. Tegra 2/TI OMAP4/Snapdragon dual core are all inferior.
ITs got the MALI 400 QUAD CORE GPU

Maybe the difference in price between Hallon and Arc is that they aim at different group of customers ? Those who want and can afford a flagship buys the Arc, and those on a lower budget buys the Hallon ? It that way SE ensure more customers. . . . . maybe

Posted by justus333
If they think, that´s the way to ensure more costumers they are mistaken. I want the Arc but to pay 200.- just for design and bigger screen is ludicrous and cant be serious!

But as we all know SE falls for every possible stupidity!

Posted by se_dude
Err it will be using a SGX543/3 and not the Mali 400.

Orion SoC has the Mali 400, ST-Ericsson U8500 also has the same.

In some ways it shows that even accepts Arc only has mid range hardware
Their flagship have same hardware as their mid range phone.

Bert made an interview in SVD here in Sweden (couldnt find it online so Ill will just write the highlights)
-Just 4 android devices 2010 which was bad, 2011 ALOT more. End of 2011 android devices for 70 euro.
-They need to hire 400 developers
-He knows they have a loyal fanbase for nonsmart and simple phones, and they will come.
-When asked about a sony ericsson pad, its sonys department but we have some interesting stuff to show in Barcelona.
-He couldnt care less about cheap phones

Posted by smclion102
UK and Ireland managing director Nathan Vautier said: “Xperia Arc is our flagship device from three key aspects – innovation, quality and design. People look at us as a brand to bring those things to market. We’re doing that and we’ll be shouting from the rooftops when we release Arc.”

So ARC IS FLAGSHIP FOR 1H
And y Arc is Expensive Cause of Design, quality ..

Interesting. So we can look forward to plenty more Android phones for this year and a return of some of the much loved A2 based handsets.

haha, love the line about cheap phones, awesome. And the rumour about Apple is they are going to INCREASE the iPhone 5's price lol!!
Looking around I can't help but think the Arc is going to be good value, it'll have a premium price for sure but I think it'll be at the lower end of the sector so a win win for everyone. But I'm no analyst.

It is nice to hear that would make cheap Android device
can I have somthing like
NOKIA X3-02? it has the usuall bar look with buttons and touch screen

Se is full of nonsense, first they said no cheap phone, then prepare it afterward they say no winphone7 but I am sure some are going to be anounce at MWC to conclude they say to be technologycal leader but I can't see where. Well dualcore may be ( I am sure it is) not important in a phone, but still they have to prove they lead, even if I am sure that the dualcore xperia is going to be close to the Galaxy S 2. I am not going to get this ridiculous phone (my computer have a 1.2GHZ single core and it suit me very well!) long life to the xperia arc.

Posted by goldenface
Well if they do decide to announce a 'Flagship' for the 2H2011 then it would have to be super high-end in order to set it apart from Xperia Arc.

Posted by tranced
I hope that the Exmor technology will be implemented in non smartphones. I doubt it though.

Regarding the cheap phones, please implement good camera modules. Just like you did with k750 and k8xx phones. It can't be that expensive.

The Only Interesting THING BERT mentioning IS XPERIA PLAY Nothing else am guessing

I do believe in back 2 you, for the devices he does say that SE is going to launch in 2H 2011. Samsung+Sharp+HTC are going to have these specs from late Q2 to early Q3, auto focusing pico projector for feature phone (cedar is a 3G modem for computers X10 isn't, zylo plays FLAC etc... so it may be the surprise). 3D(?) dual core phone, with 16mpx phone and dualcore snapdragon adreno 220 for second half, micro-cell GPU for xperia play (I bet for a launch in May).
