and hopefully they'll change its name to something more catchy...(like Sense for htc, Touchwiz for sammy...)
pity for Nexus UI

That's because HTC stole the name of N1 from Sony Ericsson...

http://semcblog.com/2011/01/0[....]new-sony-ericsson-xperia-arc/, Eldar lost his credibility.
Plus we still don't know if it is a dual core or single (even if the single core is more reliable). I just can't whine for once SE give better specs than "the leakers", this one is awesome can't wait to see the xperia's next phones the year 2011 is well started for SE and if the folowers get better it is going to be unsane!!!!
I SE

edit: damn front facing camera is missing..... but xperia neo is coming hope this one is gonna be the 16mp dual core phone would be amazing, hope that xperia play get the cortex A9 U5500 or U8500 St-Ericsson chip.

Indeed. Good job!

According to semcblog.com

Xperia™ arc will be available in selected markets in Q1 2011

This mean Jan., Feb. or March.. but Jan is the same as ann. so it won't be Jan.
Feb. is too close... March is the most believed time to release if it was really Q1 release... this is better than before where they announce the product in a quarter and release it the quearter next to it with a 4 - 6 months time between ann. and release !!...

I'm high 'till I die
You almost get everything apart from the 1ghz instead of 800 ones and the thickness you said 10.9mm but it is 9mm. That's why I said SE give better specs than yours as those 2 are important for me.

The phone ain't official yet and it looks like it was announced

It's almost a fact though.

Posted by nikos_se
LG,SAMSUNG,ETC are announcing phones with android 2.2 that will get update to 2.3 later, but if xperia arc launches with android 2.3 that will be a huge win for sony ericsson in terms of mindshare.....Everyone was saying that sony ericsson releases phones with outdated software but now hopefully they will all shut their mouth!

There's something I don't understand with that CPU

according to Qualcomm, the MSM7230 processor is clocked at 800MHz ( not the rumoured 1GHz ), + the MSM7230 supports only HSPA+ networks, no GSM, EDGE, CDMA, GPRS and else.. I don't think will make it's phone like this !! they always support all these networks...

if we want to support them, then the CPU must be MSM7630. and if we're talking about 1GHz then we must talk about MSM8655

unless I'm missing something... correct me if I'm wrong...

It won't be a "huge win". Software version isn't everything and they are updated very quickly. In addition, it is not like Samsung, LG and the others will not update their phones to 2.3.

I don't want to sound pessimistic, but I think the others will update their phones to the version after 2.3 while is still stuck with 2.3. But I don't hope so.

I can understand you after what they did with the X10's. But let's not be.

Posted by nikos_se
SO today will see the release of only xperia arc, right??or is there a chance that sony ericsson will also unveil xperia play??maybe it will just be a preview??a teaser video??just like they did with w880 back at 2007?

Posted by KU
If I remember SE take some partenership with google, moreover apart from the nexus one any other phone will be launch with 2.3... So coming coming from SE this is really amazing while they didn't even made the nexus S what will it be when they are gonig to manufacture the google phone

Arc definitely the best looking phone, but so far other manufacturers have it beat in terms of pure hardware specs. Time will tell if bravia screen can beat an AMOLED screen.

Personally I'm not like this new fashion trend of slimmest phone. Believe its really holding back mobile development. You could have bigger better cameras, batteries, etc you are sacrificing better hardware for 2-3mm? Shame on all manufacturers going for this race.
[ This Message was edited by: zub on 2011-01-05 19:12 ]

Well … Look to LG's announcement today with a 4G device and a "Nova" display that currently uses 50% less power in bright environment than traditional AMOLED display, along with 50% less power than AMOLED display when viewing White backgrounds - the most common background across the web - is looking promising and is sound judgement on the latter part. THESE ARE LG's claims nothing that I can substantiate.

My point is with current battery technology, reducing power to LCD/ISP type displays will be the biggest movement over the next 2+years. That along with mobile OS kernels having the ability to have 1 stack controlling multiple requests for communications (GSM/EDGE/3G/4G/WLAN/WiMAX/BT/etc) and sharing the connection out to the various calls will be a primary move as well: we will not notice a difference here. [an example on desktop PC's Mac's have had this since 10.3, Win7 may get this with SP1]

KU, not sure WHAT this talk of dual-core being less than stable … there are only 3 companies right now that have researched and produced Dual-Core ARM based mobile cpu's: Texas instruments, Marvel recently, and Samsung. TI has been in this game for over 1.2yrs with the OMAP4xxx lineup already. Sorry make that 4 with Qualcomm but their not fully ARM-based as they've made extensive modifications to ARM design with their license.

ARC is looking VERY promising but I do NOT like the headset on the SIDE of the unit. (Top or Bottom - just like sexy adventures; there is no side entry )

That's also my opinion. It maybe looks nice but it isn't very usefull. But I think something like this will come along with it.

so honeycomb 3.0 is optimized for tablet and optimised dual core processor.so i can understand now why doesnt come with dual core yet.as long as it can keep the price with single core.

Btw, android 3.0 look heavenly good.if apple doesn't enhanced its iOS for ipad, man..it'll totally pawn by android.

@Prom1: Well you are true about LG (chocolate, and so on) but the problem of this brand is it dependence on the fashionable trend.... While they often make awersome tech evolution/revolution.
I don't understand why you deny St-Ericsson, while SE get new technologies from Sony so why can't Ericsson give some ?
Nonetheless tomorow we will surely get some more information about these amazings form factors hardware and the meaning of all these leaked specs. But for now I know that apart from the look and camera this xperia arc seem inferior to the new Motorola, Samsung,LG and HTC.

But still I SE

Moreover what do you think about the xperia play ? I know you have a smart point of view

Kaz Hirai non-confirms the PlayStation Phone

Kaz Hirai, President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, just twirled a fine dance around the PlayStation Phone. In discussing Sony's future strategy for offering a coherent and extremely expansive consumer offering, he used the words "tablets," "smartphones" and "PlayStation" in the same sentence, whetting appetites but never taking the leap to confirm what we all pretty much know his company is working on:

Strategy encompasses driving the development of a variety of new strategic products and services including tablets currently in development as well as smartphones, all the while of course integrating the knowhow and the assets that we've accumulated from our PlaySation business.

Maybe the (dual core ?) fat psphone isn't yet ready to be shown for Sony.
So there might be 2 dualcore (play and neo) and 2 gigahertz (duo and arc) SE phones for this H1 2011 ?

Because SE never had been far from others and I hope the CEO surprise isn't android 2.3, which isn't suffisent for 2011...

If it is would you take some pictures while doing it ?
Remember that xperia arc wasn't supposed to have this kind of screen, camera and software, moreover it is a 1ghz slimmest phone that was suppose to be a slim 800mhz outdated one. So you shouldn't be that sure of yourself...

Joke apart do you guys think that the next x10 update (with dual touch) will come with 2.2 ? I mean it would be a nice "catch up" from SE.
