Question about patching

Ok, so I've been messing around with this old W810, applying patches and such, when I noticed something.

I applied a patch that changed the color of the battery-indicator, and later changed the color of the signal-indicator.
Then I changed simcard, and now the signal-indicator color is back to normal.
Changed simcard back again, and now signal-indicator is the color I patched.

What am I missing? Does all patches has to be applied right after a firmware flash?

First time I hear this. Patches are applied to the main and when you flash the MAIN or update the phone using SEUS the patch goes away.

Lol thats impossible.

Well, good to hear those reactions. Nevertheless, it's what's happening here.

Its unbelievable. The patch is applied to main. It has nothing to do with simcard. I have around 12 patches and many elfs running at a time on my K850i. When i change my sim card, nothing disappears, though i have no gfx patch for battery and signal icon.

Yes it is very weird indeed.

Also, when I try to apply additional patches now (using SEToolLite) I'm told that some values differ, and I'm asked if I want to continue or not.

Any ideas?

Posted by Boysie
Yes. You have no idea what you are doing.

Remove and reinsert battery. Select the VPK file, and click Write Script. Then insert cable while holding C. Let it do the stuff. Unplug, remove and reinsert battery when told. Click Ready button and reconnect holding C. Let it finish.
It doesn't look that complicated to me, and I've had no trouble with other patches. But if you're that clever, then enlighten me. Can you tell me what in that above process I'm doing wrong, or are you just being the typical kiddie smartass?

Here is a video where you can see the signal-indicator color change depending on simcard. The video is blurry, but should be sharp enough for you to be able to see the difference.

I agree that this really shouldn't happen, but it does. So can anyone explain it?

That's weird, when you insert the simcard and the battery icons return to normal, are the files still there when you connect it to A2uploader?

Posted by mr_lou
Don't know what you mean by that. I didn't think I could see which patch-files I had applied.

I'm not using A2Upload, but SETool2Lite.

When trying to apply other patches now, I almost always get the "Some patch values differs, continue?" message. This happens also when trying to apply the signal-indicator color change patch. Just weird.

Anyway. A side question. When searching for patches at 4shared, mostly patches for older phones are found. Are there no such patches available for e.g. W995 or Aino anywhere?

Don't get smart with me. I have more experience in phone modding than you'll ever have.

You are doing the process correctly but what you are saying is ludicrous. Patches are applied to the main firmware and simply changing the sim card WILL NOT AFFECT THAT FIRMWARE so you get the original icons back.

Posted by mr_lou
Explain the video then. Should be easy for a superior modder like you.

Posted by tranced
Come on, Lou. Boysie is a great guy when it comes to SE modding. No need to act like that.

Posted by mr_lou
Act like what? Interpret his useless reply "You don't know what you're doing" as a completely unnecessary comment without any value at all? That kind of reply is a kiddie smartass "I'm better than you" reply. Plain'n'simple.

Lol

Ah ignore me I was thinking of something different.

Btw that video doesn't work.

I give people the same attitude they give me. No more, no less.

@everyone sorry to interrupt your fight and all, but I have a question for mr_lou:
Can you just put the icons in a folder to make these changes? I'm eager to do it myself, tho the fact that I own an A1 phone makes it kinda harder

Erm you started with the attitude, not me. All I'm saying is I don't believe what you say is happening to your phone. Its impossible, end of. You can't seem to grasp this and rather dish out your attitude.

I was being sarcastic

btw could patches be affected by removing the battery, when you take out the sim?

I'm asking politely, and you give me a pointless useless reply like that. In my opinion you started with the attitude right there.

The video I posted shows that what I say is true, whether you believe it or not.

No, the patch is a vkp file, which you can view using a plain text-editor such as Notepad. There are no icon-files. The image-data is in the vkp file.

Patching can't be done on all phones since it requires that someone actually made some patches for that phone + the firmware you're running.
For example, I have a K610 which could be fun to patch also, but there just aren't any patches available for K610, except a few for another firmware. One solution to this is to flash it to become a W660, and then you have lots of patches available.

What model is it?

Ah yes, the rather predictable traditional scenario, when coming from a 13-year-old kid who can't come up with valid defense for his claims; the classic kiddie smartass reply again. But from a moderator? I find it difficult to understand how you ever became moderator, because either you clearly aren't qualified for the task with an attitude like that, or else the standard of Esato Forum moderators has simply dropped to a level too low for my taste.

I wonder which one it is. I guess I'll find out soon.

Posted by Boysie
Lol not only are you dumb, but you can't read either. Who said I moderate here? Read!

If I was a moderator here I would have closed this ridiculous topic ages ago.

Posted by mr_lou
You're apparently super moderator at another forum, which is puzzling in itself. Sorry for assuming you also were an Esato moderator.
I'm closing this thread now, since you seem determined spoiling it, and this can go on forever. Job well done Boysie. Be proud of yourself.

Posted by Boysie
No problem, any time.

Btw, your video proves nothing only the fact you don't understand the basic principles of patching the firmware. I'll say again: Its impossible that changing sim cards can change your battery icons. Simple. Please try and understand this. I'm not trying to belittle you in any way but I find you're not trying to understand this but only determined to think you are right. Its not just me here who thinks this.
