voting 1 on photos

Ive been a LONG TIME registered user of this site but mostly just as a lurker till I recently left my other forum due to crazy amounts of spam and garbage posts... Is this site slowly headed down that road too???

How is it that a good picture (ie Bonovox's nunn) can be voted down and replaced by a bunch of rubbish (no offense intended to anyone personally). Not only that but it seems the same three or four users appear MULTIPLE times on the top page... Does it make you feel better to vote on your own photos and push them to the top? or vote on other photos and push them down.... WHERES THE FUN IN THAT??? And the end of the day YOU know who you are and should quite frankly be embarrassed that you have to manipulate votes to get any attention to your picture.

For a little while I had some pictures up but decided to delete them because as soon as I post something there is an immediate ONE posted to it... I'm no super camera phone photog but the pictures I posted CERTAINLY weren't a "1."

Unfortunately this childish behavior makes me (and I'm pretty sure likely others as well) not want to participate in sharing our photos. Or maybe it is just me and my perception of the "close" group here isn't really that accurate....

Thoughts, corrections... new perspective??? Im curious about others thoughts on this or if indeed, its "just me" that notices this?

Hehe - here is not photoforum, no matter on which photo will be voted. Fun man and cheers.

Posted by hihihans
I did notice that it went back in stars but never looked further.
In photo-section it's meant to vote only once.

Posted by Bonovox
I have noticed the recent spate of very average photos. Thank you for your words sir.....

Posted by ceaser2008
Thats really shameful for ESATO. This is the place where we all should be honest, honest with ourselves and with others as well.

Posted by mriley
I have noticed that too...
But despite what happens in the photo section, just because a photo isn't #1 doesn't mean that it isn't very good.
In short:

True.. but when new users join the boards or visitors stop by.... do we want them seeing our "Average" stuff in the top list as far as what some of these phones can do?? I think it would benefit the community to have the WOW stuff on the "top" page so new users are more inclined to participate in discussions and maybe learn how to create GREAT images themselves... not learn how to manipulate the system to have their average stuff on top.... but that's just me

cheers

True... what would be nice is to have the voting results visible to everyone, not just the owner of the photo... and then if you click on each bar (ie 1-10) you can see which voters gave you which rating.... this would (IMO) make people maybe more aware of whos dolling out all the "1's" and if there is a pattern..... maybe even require constructive feedback to be entered if scoring an image less than 3 and if scoring more than 8, require coments on what makes that a 9 or 10 for you... I think a lot could be learned and shared that way.... just a thought....

Sooner or later you'll have the answer to this. This is something that's been bothering me too. Not because my photos are not in the first top 10 page, it just that some unfairness has been done here.

We, the mods, have caught some of the members here cheating in the photo gallery before. But there will be something very useful to stop this soon.

Posted by Bonovox
Oh cool that would be good Your contrast photo tranced recently was No.1

Posted by hihihans
There is work in progress.
We don't see the Mods all the time but it's made clear again they do more as we know. Thanks for being there.

Posted by Bonovox
Yes the mods are watching you

Posted by ceaser2008
Yes, thats good news from mods. Waiting for that to arrive.

just change the voting system..most vote stay..maybe the mods can do that to avoid 'down fall' and some are just voting for their 'friends' pic because they know the poster hahaha

change the voting system

My pic is still hovering in the charts. It's a long stayer at least proud of that pic at least it was a No.1 once

This voting is strange indeed.
My photo for November Mobile Phone Shootout was 5th (3stars) yesterday with 2 votes, 2nd (3.5stars) this morning with 3 votes, now it's 15th (3stars) with 5 votes.
I'm don't know how to read the diagram.
I'll keep you informed on the progress.

Posted by Bonovox
Yes,the rating in photos can make a photo suddenly jump or dip quite dramatically

Posted by hihihans
I'm down to 95 (3stars) 6 votes
Is this the calculating formula or an anti-smoke campaign

Hi Tranced. Another disgruntled user of the photo section here. Any news if the photo section's voting system will e modified?

Posted by jms2367
I have been looking at my photo for the past couple of weeks and it has been consistently in the top 10 with 24 votes. During the past few days, It has received about 4 votes of one (1) rating. I wonder if these are just newly created accounts.

Now it has been bumped to number 65.

So a is a solution for the 1-mark voters problem is coming? I hope it is!

The only problem here are the 1mark voters.

What happened about this?

Posted by Bonovox
Did you know that photo of mine i took on the Elm in the church before it dropped out the top 100 had 70 votes

Posted by laffen
The voting system keeps track of every vote. I know some members sign up with fake accounts just to influence the photo voting. I haven't had the time to create a script to find out who these members are.

I have the data, but not the tool for removing votes and banning members quick and easy. It will come, but I can't say when

Posted by hihihans
Thanks Laffen.
I just can't imagine why it is that some people want to vote pics down. Is it such a big deal to be in top 10

Posted by CecoBizona
The problem with the 1-mark voters is very serious lately, for an example I upload a couple of pictures in a couple of hours today and now each one of them have 10 votes with 1!!! I also have a photo with 18 votes with 1, not altered in any way.
I wonder about the people doing this, how many time they spent in downgrading others photos just to ensure their own stay in the top. Very stupid and pointless, but as I can see is important for some people here.

Can't imagine either, it's pathetic, these people need to get a life

Just to add. I recently took some photos on a Samsung Galaxy S of Lichfield Cathedral. Now I have deleted many of my photos recently and left a handful of my best. But I believe the Samsung photos to be of decent quality and I took time to make them good. But in the space of a few hours two of my shots received 27 votes each and virtually all were 1 star. Suspicious?? Indeed. I have my ideas who it is. Just cos sometimes a photo is NOT taken by a Sony Ericsson it gets voted down. Childish.

*Updated title of this thread so it is easier to find in searches.

Also wanted to ask a simple question that maybe a mod or laffen could answer. Is it possible to create way to disable voting on photos we upload? I would like to participate in the monthly photo contest but don't like providing the satisfaction to the "1" voters of voting me down so that may stay on top. Or, maybe change the script on the voting button so that it won't submit your vote without a comment attached.

This I feel would solve the issue as the "1" voters would be forced to reveal their user id when they voted thus making it very obvious if that user is always voting with only ones. Additionally, if the photo is truly a one, it would provide an opportunity for constructive feedback on why that photo is felt to deserve that score and how (in the opinion of that user) they could make it better.

Just an idea, your thoughts?

...change the script on the voting button so that it won't submit your vote without a comment attached.

They again can write "good photo" and vote with 1.

..."1" voters would be forced to reveal their user id when they voted ...

Voting with 1 is not forbiden, so even if user id would be known, he couldn't be baned, only that can be done is to not vote for him. But again, because probably multiple account are "in game", he wont vote 1 with real profile.

But then their ID stating "good photo" with a "1" right next to it immediatly calls out the fake... the vote would need be attached to the feedback.

Yes... I understand its not forbidden but once that ID is identified as one of the offenders, laffen could just go in and ban all ID's at that IP if the issue persisted. Obviously voting "1" will still happen becuse some photos deserve it, but if that user votes EVERYTHING a one, I think that is a red flag.

Strange one this. I find that depending on what phone I am using my scores are either high or low. I have used some Nokia phones or Samsung & mostly they get rated low ish yet they are still decent photos. Now I recently got a Neo my photos have shot up. I don't mind this but it seems some people are voting for their fave brand it seems. Though even with my Neo some shots still sometimes get a score of 2 or 4 but mostly high now.

Posted by emporium
still, voting for everything with 1 is not against site rules, the best thing mods can do, i think, is, first bring new rule - having more then one account is not allowed, then instal automatic sistem for baning multiple accounts, like some torrent sites have, so we will have one 1 from one user
