As a sparetime J2ME developer I sometimes run into the annoying security issues, that makes messages popup, and requires my app to be signed if I want to avoid those popups.
A certificate costs about $300-$500 a year, which is a lot for a sparetime developer who's not making money on it, but mostly is just developing apps to myself.

The alternative solution is to put my own root certificate on my phone. In order to do this I need one of the tools that lets me hack my firmware, as far as I understand.
My question is, which one of those tools would be best for me to use? Which one lets me add my own certificate to e.g. a W800 or W760 relatively simple (and preferably free)?

Back in the old days I tried Far Manager to give my W800 another set of icons, and a boot-up splash image. I remember nothing about it though, except that it looked like a DOS program, and I bet there are simpler ways to do it today.

I've also tried DaVinci very briefly once I needed a free service - but needed to pay anyway to get access to that free service.

So which tool would you recommend me, if all I need to do is to give my phone an additional Java Certificate? Thanks.

Nevermind.
According to this old article, copying the certificate to the filesystem isn't enough. Apparently you also need to flash a completely new firmware onto the phone, and I don't want to do that.

Does anyone know of a patch for W800 I can install with e.g. XS++ that removes ALL Java restrictions and security popups etc?

XS++ doesn't apply patches. In this case you would need a new version of Far Manager or Setool 2 Lite. Certainly there are patches that allow you to always allow.

Well, I payed 10 euro to DaVinci now because I thought I might be able to do it from there.
But as far as I think I've found out, I need a vkp file, and all links that once existed to these old files, are gone now.

Does anyone have some old vkp files for W800 or K800? I'm interested in the remove-all-the-bloody-stupid-annoying-java-security-restrictions-popups-shit.

It looks like DaVinci can apply a vkp patch. Maybe some of the other tools can too, but I'm unable to run SE Tool. Looks like it requires additional hardware.
I can't find the old plugin to Far Manager either. Everything is way old nowadays, most/all links are dead.

4shared.com has lot of patches for that phone. Check that link out

The patches must match the same firmware version./

Thanks a lot tranced!
I'll have a look at it when I get home from work today.

Wow! This is great!

Patched my W800 and K800 easily, and now they both run my J2ME stuff without any annoying popups! Patching W800 was even free with DaVinci. K800 was 10 euro though. (Can it be done for free with other tools?)

How many SE's phones has a patch for this? It should be the first thing you do with your phone! hehe. I tried searching for patches for my Aino at 4shared.com, but it's probably too new a device still.

How about other brands? Can we do it with Nokia's too? Samsung?

The K800 is patchable with setool 2 lite and far manager(new).

That patch is almost available for all the mobile phones under the DB3210 platform.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I can't patch (another) K800 with SE Tool 2 Lite. It says "Can't build loaders chain". I checked that the firmware version matches the patch.

Anyway, I've been searching for remove-java-restrictions patches in general, and Esato doesn't seem to be the "hotspot" for patching. I'm tired of signing up everywhere..... but what is the one place to go and sign up if I'm interested in these minor patches?

On EROM CID53 you must use FAR with JDflasher plugin OR downgrade to CID52 with Omnius!

Thanks centur. It seems patching isn't a simple process at all.

I don't suppose there's anywhere online where all these terms are described? What's CID and DB2010 and red color and brown color and A2 etc etc.
