For those who have already used Android a fair bit, what do you recommend?

Is there an app for tasks with reminder?
Posted by MikLSP
As I've been big on Android for a while now I've installed some of my old favourites:
Astro - file manager
beebPlayer - BBC iPlayer
FeedR - RSS
Google Sky Map - night sky viewer
PicSay - picture editor
Pkt Auctions - ebay
Wapedia - Wikipedia (fast)
Zedge - ringtones

Good thread - I'll be following this thread closely for app ideas.
I'm glad there is an iPlayer app, that's one thing I'd miss. Can't wait to try out Layar and Locale too.

I like Google translate.
It helped me break the ice with a polish woman in the nightclub friday night.

What's everyone getting on battery use. The idle usage is really bugging me at the moment. The phone is locked, on standby and it's still losing about 5 per cent an hour - is that reasonable?
I've turned everything off and use an app killer to shut down non essential services. Basically it's doing very little but it's still losing power.

Just downloaded flixter for movie times but there are plenty of others to choose from I guess. Can anyone recommend any location based apps apart from locale?

Just had my first 24 hours of use and it was warning me that it was down to less than 10%.
My W960i would take over 48 hours before any such warning, and I use that for everything!

Don't forget to use a task manager.

Another one: Air Control BEWARE! Addiction ahead!
Posted by goldenface
Try the Speed Forge 3D Demo.
Amazing! I have to get the full version on my phone, amazing graphics.

I found the Wi-fi on/off widget quite helpful and Im using Appolo Task Killer to control my apps etc. Not sure its the best one though. Also the stopwatch is pretty useful.

I have downloaded Biowallet Beta from here.
How do I install it?
Posted by SE-Naz
As long the file ends with apk and you have a file manager like astro or linda you can locate it via that and click on it to install
Posted by goldenface
So I just create a folder for it? I downloaded via a PC.

I have got a folder called apps stored on my SD card and then go to location and click on it and it will give you the option to install...

Done! Cheers SE-Naz

Glad you sorted it out...
Did you get a chance to try out doubletwist? How did you convert your videos???
Posted by goldenface
The ones I have converted so far I used Xilisoft. I'm in work at the moment, will try doubletwist later on tonight.
Posted by SE-Naz
Please let me know how you get on wit
Posted by goldenface
Will do.
Posted by goldenface
Actually, just tried it now and it works fine. Recognises the phone, very easy to use - just drag and drop.

You should try also Fast Call. It really helps when you have a lot of contacts in your phone book.
Posted by goldenface
Fast call is just what I needed thanks.

Has any one tried installing any of the htc apps i have folders full of them from the desire including friendstream and htc clocks flickr etc any ideas

Shazam - Listens to music playing for about 10 seconds then tries to figure out the name and artist, tends to work pretty well!
Abduction - Free doodle-jump clone that I find to be better than the original
Barcode Scanner - I'm sure you can figure out what it does
Handcent SMS - SMS application similar to the iPhone in design that offers increased usability
Posted by tomasz.luch
ASTRO File Manager - good file manager
Chess for Android - best chess for Android, player vs cpu
Google Translate
3banana notes - this one is awesome. Note taking application with sync option to snaptic server.
Droid comic viewer - for comics reading.
Scrobble Droid - if you scrobble to last.fm this is mandatory for you.

@weirdwilli

Still waiting for Sky Sports to bring out an andriod app.

Don't bother with Shazam, TrackID is actually better!

My favorites so far:
Battery Widget
Astro
WiFiBuddy
Wapedia
Touchdown (if you need push from an exchange mail server, otherwise Moxier works okay)

I'm trying Twicca beta from the market it is very good!
Any of you X10 users tried Google Earth yet?
Posted by MikLSP
Google Earth is only available for Eclair devices and hence doesn't show in the Market. I don't know whether it can be manually installed or if it still wouldn't work.
Posted by titus1
Music Wizard - Free MP3 downloads
Smart Keyboard Pro - Let's you change qwerty to T9 by just swiping gesture.

Those three without a doubt. My fiancée laughs every time she hears the cow moo of Abduction starting... I'm addicted I tell ya!
Others on my list:
- Advanced Task Manager - automatically kill apps that are running in the background
- JuiceDefender - wonderful for prolonging battery life
- Startup Auditor - kill apps you can't uninstall and don't use (Moxier, I'm looking at you) than keep em dead
- Apps Organizer - an easy way to keep your app folders organized
- PDANet - the best tethering app around
- Seesmic - fully featured Twitter client

I agree with tomasz.luch Astro is great file manager/process killer, good media player being "3" and the full screen video player for the X10 being called just "video player" from the market.
I hear there is an equalizer that works with the X10, anyone know the name?
Posted by goldenface
That's one App I'm after myself.
Posted by moogoo
thanks for all the suggestions guys... i literally just spent 45 mins browsing the market. There's so many to try!
Posted by arcticreaver
the best app that i got was really the htc keyboard. this keyboard just saved me a ton of trouble typing.
Posted by moogoo
i actually like the standard keyboard...
Posted by arcticreaver
have you tried the htc keyboard? that thing is a beast!

Strange. I'm pretty sure I found it on the market here.
Oh well. Since you need the PC-side software to make it work anyway, just go grab it from June Fabrics website: http://www.junefabrics.com/
A license is about $20 (which gets you past the 30-day trial), but it's definitely worth it. Works wonderfully, and I haven't had any of the connection drops I had using the WinMo version on my old iPAQ (though the phone itself may have been the problem there). One license works for one phone, but you can install the PC software on as many computers as you like.
