so... not far off the exchange rate + 30% that I suggested.

I'm not convinced I wanna pay that much for this. I'm certainly not preordering.

Posted by julias
Still much cheaper to get one from the states and i might just go for that option

Does it make a difference that their power supply is different from ours and how can get that to work here?

Posted by masseur
the only issue you have is fitting the 2 prongs US adaptor into the 3 prong UK socket. A travel adaptor will sort that.

... or just charge direct from USB

Posted by julias
Sounds good thanks i guess that problem is sorted then will be ordering one next week

Posted by masseur
you might want to check warranty as thats alot of money to be spending to find when yuo have an issue you have to send it to US

Posted by julias
So your telling me Apple care in the U.K won't sort it out real bummer if that's the case i'm not sure what to do now?

Posted by PeterKay
UK prices start at £429

higher than US

here's a pricing comparison table

What are the chances that the prediction michka made on page 4 in this thread will come true this year?

Sorry. I had to make up an excuse to repost the above picture. It still cracks me up

O2 announces UK price plans for iPad WiFi and 3G

nothing special. in fact just the same as their normal mobile broadband tariffs as far as I can see

Posted by masseur
so, who got the iPad today?

I'm really undecided so will probably leave it for now

Posted by goldenface
3UK's data plans undercut the competition by quite a bit - 10GB for £15 a month.

vodafone do a $49aud/month unlimited offer here

Posted by goldenface
Don't know anyone mentioning they're rushing out to get one here, where I work.

One of my facebook friends camped out for 2 hours this morning and got his. Oh, and my boss is buying one to put in a raffle.

Other than that, no mania here.

Posted by >500
people camped for 24hrs+ in Aus...

I cant believe people are actually that desperate to get such a product... anything for that matter. surely theres more important things in life

some one came into work with one... didnt look all that erganomic honestly... i dont think id find much use for it unless it was lying flat on a table...

Posted by goldenface
I like the concept.

I think I'd get one just to watch stuff in bed - rest it on my knees and watch TV before I doze off. Can't see me taking it anywhere else. I'm afraid it would end up on top of the wardrobe gathering dust.

The Daily mail paper today was calling Apple users boring smug snobs or something

Posted by goldenface
The Daily Mail doesn't like most people. I'm gonna have a look at one in the Apple store when I finish work - see what the fuss is about.

Any reason why top spec one bought in Japan, would not work well in the UK?

I read that this doesn't work for some PCs and even some Macs. Not enough current supplied thru the USB port or something like that.

I know that an iPhone charges a lot faster from a wall socket than via USB...

Is the iPad really worth it? I mean, spec wise, i could get a tablet for half the price which would out perform it...and the iPhone 4 has better specs then the iPad... so wasnt really sure if it was worth it.

It took 4 hours for the chinese to have a copy of the ipad on release day. The iped is 1/8th the price and running the android platform. Checkout ebay for one. It has USB ports and is expandable via SD memory cards.

the perfect iPad accessory!

(shame its $300 bucks!)

It's interesting to see that every company is now copying Apple in creating tablet computers, amazon, sony, samsung... Other companies should set them selves apart and create something innovative like Apple does, otherwise they will always be second place. The problem with the iPad seems to be that it would be awkward to carry around with you, I guess that accessory would get round that problem

I played with an ipad the other day in Apple store it's very slick

I've come to love my iPad. I have the 32gb 3G version.

Negative points so far are that its not easy to hold for long periods, and the screen is definitly not as fingerprint friendly as the iphone.

Positive points are the fantastic apps that are customised for the ipads larger display and its general usability.

btw, a tip from something I learned recently.
If you go into the App Store, click genius, and then click iPad updates it shows you what iPhone apps you have that can be upgraded to iPad compatible versions. many developers release a single version of the app that works on both, detecting which device its running on, but others produce separate apps for iPhone and iPad. This Genius feature show you the latter so yo ucan take best advantage of the iPad

I've now used limera1n to jailbreak the ipad

as its my first time on the ipad, any good suggestions for apps?

Posted by masseur
according to Engadget, apparantly Orange are taking pre orders for the 16gb 3g iPad at £199 on a 2 year contract (although currently the "Buy iPad" page isn't working). 32gb is £249 and 64gb is £349.

This is the first subsidised iPads I've seen so I guess thats going to make them more affordable for people.

I have the 32gb 3g iPad and I love it! Its definitly not just a "large iPhone" as I use quite different apps on the iPad than I do on the iPhone.

Also, iPad gen 2 rumours are starting to surface suggesting it cameras front and back, gyroscope and possibly a retina display and will also be slimmer possibly sporting a carbon fibre housing for strength, and will be out end of Q1

I have The Daily installed and I have to say its good, but not as innovative as I expected

shame its only for US at this time too so I look forward to some UK, or given that its form an Aussie media baron, some Aussie content!

still... it now has a firm place in the media page of my ipad

it's too large and inconvenient to take along with

Posted by masseur
sounds like Apple will be announcing the iPad 2 next Wednesday

Posted by mriley
Why so soon?

Posted by masseur
so soon? its been a year since the first ipad announcement

Posted by mriley
They announce things later in the year along with all new Apple products

Posted by p900 lover
Not sure if there is a dedicated iPad thread after release but anyways, can the iPad 2 be jailbroken?

Posted by masseur
not yet

Posted by p900 lover
I guess its just a matter of time right. Im considering getting one but the apps make it what it is and i dont want to shell out another £100 to get it to its optimum performance.

Was the original ipad ever jailbroken?

Posted by masseur
yes. I did it once but never really found anything that I'd use on the iPad like have on the iPhone

Explosion reported at Apple iPad 2 manufacturing plant

An explosion has damaged part of Foxconn's Chegdu manufacturing plant in China, where a large quantity of Apple iPad 2s are manufactured. And, far more disastrously and importantly, news crews are reporting that there have been two people killed and 16 injured, three of which seriously.

Are you trying to say something?

iPad 2 given untethered jailbreak (video)

Hackers gave the iPad 2 its first simple, if not necessarily flawless, wireless jailbreak for the iPad 2. A video demo (below) points users to a web link [caution: don't try unless willing to risk voiding warranty] that, like other web jailbreaks, takes advantage of a browser hole for PDF handling to crack iOS 4.3.3 on the Apple tablet. The hack closes the browser, loads Cydia and, after a manual reboot, gives the device privileges to run apps from beyond the App Store.

as some know here, I watch alot of video podcasts, especially on my daily commute.

One is iJustine (here is her youtube channel or, as I do, her itunes subscription)

she's heavily into Apple products but is also a wacky but entertaining (although sometimes perhaps a bit weird!) female (I sound like an ad!)

anyway, this cracked me up today...

CRAZY iPad CHICK! (not bad quality video taken by the iPad 2)
