I rang O2 CS the other day to enable my SIM for GPRS & in turn MMS. It has all gone through at their end. I do not have the GPRS icon (Blue Triangle thing) above my reception bars and I cannot connect to the Internet via GPRS, nor send MMS. It goes to send an MMS then comes up on the screen as "GPRS failed" - "Network or communication error. Please check your settings and try again".
Is it something that I am doing wrong or haven't I been completely set up yet? Please Help Me!!!

Go to o2.co.uk and go to wap then setup wap and follow instructions
Posted by Jonesy Boy
I just cleared all my WAP profiles. Gone to O2.co.uk as you said and downloaded settings for the T68i GPRS Settings, then the T68i MMS settings. Still the same

Just to let you know you can not have MMS and GPRS at the same time with O2. I turned my MMS on about 2 weeks ago and then realised that my GPRS said 'Not allowed' when i called O2 they said due to software problems then can not offer both services at the same time. So off went the MMS and now i have my GPRS back. I know that you can now send MMS between O2 and Orange but its no use to me without GPRS as well.
Posted by Jonesy Boy
So MMS cannot be done on O2? Is that what you're saying or am I getting the wrong end of the stick?
Posted by cam1701
No you can have MMS or you can have GPRS but you can not have them both at the same time. I use my GPRS a lot for emails so i need it. Yes i would be good to send some MMS but seems for now you can not have both. I asked when this would be fixed and was told that they are working on it but not anytime soon.

Fantastic

Not sure because they are supposed to go by GPRS? To be honest never even got chance to try mine since i do not know anyone with MMS so as soon as i realised that my GPRS had been turned off i canceled the service. You can also get the MMS settings from the Sonyericsson site as well. Hopefully O2 will get there thumb for there a**s and get them working together.

Thanks for the info cam :)

Further to the posts above, is anybody else on O2 PAYG but have MMS working on their T68i? Its beginning to piss me off now. O2 say it should be working

You can have both it's fixed now ,try turning your phone off/on, the settings don't take till you do this.
I had exact same prob till I reset phone, o2 call centres ,...absofuckinllutlyuseless!!!!!!!!!!

Listen up people. I have an O2 Online PAYG simcard and have had access to both MMS and GPRS -> AT THE SAME TIME since last December.
Posted by ofiaich
I had both working too... in payandgo. Now I got a contract.
I was told I can't have MMS and full WEB ( not WAP, ) access together.
I use a Tungsten-T so MMS was removed for the same reasons most people have. Don't know anyone who uses it! lol!!
So now, I use WAP and WEB on my T-T but no MMS.

I am on O2 monthly and spoke to them again yesterday afternoon and they say that you can not have both GPRS and MMS. To be honest i think i have just about given up with them. Nobody there seems know what they are doing there. Considering moving number over to Orange. If anybody has got GPRS and MMS on O2 monthly can they say how they managed it?

Ofiach, have you tried http://nowmms.com ?
Since that service only makes use of a GPRS connection you should still be able to send MMS. Plus, since you are only being charged for the data it should cost significantly less than the 40p that O2 want for their MMS service.
Plus, O2 shouldn't be able to tell that you are sending an MMS because you will be using the NowMMS MMSC (MMS message server).
I can't confirm that this will definitely work as I won't be able to tell until AFTER the free MMS trial period from O2 finishes this saturday.
Also, if you didn't know the NowMMS service itself is free

Yeah I'm considering leaving O2. The fact that you cannot have GPRS and MMS at the same time is absolute madness.
I thought that MMS messages were sent using GPRS? MMS was supposed to be the driver to get the masses to start using data services. It would also provide more revenue for O2.
O2 have also done a really uninspiring job launching MMS - Vodafone's Live service has been marketed in a much better way. I am thinking of changing.

Hi!

Thanks,

Thanks bigjobs. Right, everything seems to be working ok.... more or less. I've tried sending an MMS to my Virgin SIM in my spare 8310 (Sorry, I know its a Finnish phone but I found it in the street.... HONEST!!). It all goes smooth until part way through sending it comes up on screen as "User Barred". Is this because Virgin doesn't support MMS and the 8310 is not an MMS compatible phone?
Thanks in advance

It comes up with user barred because either your settings are wrong or 02 Havent fully activated the Mms part on your account, despite having just activated GPRS for you. Wait a little bit longer max half a day. Plus when you do get it working your 8310 will only receive a text message containing a url to view the Mms via the web.

wtf is goin on ?
aprt from the fukwits in o2 cs who honestly beleive you cannot have MMS and GPRS on o2 !?!
im on contract and have had both enabled since pre xmas when they 1st introduced mms !
have i honestly just been one in a million in having them both working ?!?!

A lot of people on O2 have been able to get MMS and GPRS simultaneously, including myself. It's just that there's always one unlucky punter that manages to get served by a complete muppet at the O2 helpdesk who seems to it can't be done.
Posted by cam1701
Its always me that gets the O2 idiot. I have tried them again and still they say its not possible. I have informed them that i know people who have both and still they insist that its not possible. Has anyone got a name for somebody who works for O2 that has more then one brain cell?

Can anyone tell me how to get MMS enabled. I have an O2 leasure time contract with carphone warehouse. I have been trying on and off since december to get it working. If i need to call someone to get it enabled do I call O2 or carphone warehouse. I already have a GPRS service on my contract. Looks like I'm going to miss out on the free time completely
Posted by 2tangy
Yes unfortunately you do need to phone up either CPW(CarPhone....) or O2 to get the facility enabled on your account. They don't just automatically turn it on for everyone so it needs to be done manually and individually. If you hurry, you MIGHT be able to get the last 2 days of the free period out. (It finishes Feb 1st, this saturday)

It just seems bugged, i was getting that user barred for ages, then it fixed itself, yes you can have both I am using both right now on ex-genie pay-go, whic his 02 online pay-go now.
The free period runs out friday, anyone know the charges for gprs on pay-go after that?
IF YOU DIDNT SEE MY THREAD, NOTICE THAT 02 ONLINE PAY-GO IS NOW TALKALOT 25 PMIN OR 3 MINS THEN 5/2 P AFTER THAT.

Posted by 2tangy
With regards to the new 02 online pay as you go deal, anybody who has the old deal and wishes to switch over to the new one must phone or email them to request it. It is not done automatically. Whether or not that is a good thing is up to you. :-)

@superunknown
...or are we aquainted? Who are you? guess I'll never know if you are to be superunknown....

i've had MMS and GPRS on from Oct02 (O2 monthly)....
What do they mean you can't have both those idiots? Dont they know that you need to have GPRS in order to have MMS?
MMS works using the GPRS to send out ths data....
anyway, i realised that I can have free GPRS WAP surfing by subscribing to MMS.... I dont use MMS at all during the free promo period.... just lotsa WAP surfing that's all. And now that the free MMS is over, I can still use GPRS for WAP..... and i guess that won't be chargable since I NEVER subscribed to GPRS.... So, FREE GPRS FOR ME! (and i guess all of you on O2)
Posted by 2tangy
Well, I still got free GPRS on my PAYG o2 simcard even though they were supposed to turn it off last Saturday
Posted by bigjobs
I'm guessing they allow wap gprs to come out of your free mins, that you would have for wap anyway on pay-go tarriff.
I haven't gone over 300 mins yet so will see when I do.
The reality of gprs is that it is 99% of the time no faster than dial-up.
To exceed 9kb you will need to pinch more timeslots, and there is very few avaliable, people on Orange/Tmobile are more likely to have luck, because the 1800mhz system requires more cell sites, so more timeslots.
The whole thing is overated, as usual
The single biggest advantage is that you can recieve calls while surfing, but only if you are not actually downloading as the call comes in.

Has anyone managed to get o2 GPRS (wap or GPRS) to work on a p800 withn Opera? I am having major issues at the moment.
I can get the inbuilt browser to work on o2 GPRS WAP, but not on real web sites. THen i can get it to browse real web sites only when i change the preferred account to o2 MMS. Both are not costing me any money, on PAYG sim.
thanks.

Hi,
I have both MMS and GPRS enabled on O2 PAYG.
I received the 'User Barred' error when trying to send an MMS and this was because MMS wasn't enabled. Phoned O2 (50p per minute) and within 3 minutes it was all sorted. About 2 hours later i could send MMS Messages and also browse using GPRS.
Good Luck.

It'll be interesting to see how many peops still use GPRS when its not free!

k guys heres how it is:
o2 have the following services for customers :
GPRS
MMS
MOBILE WEB
what they actually have is just :
GPRS
MOBILE WEB
heres each one explained:
GPRS - standard gprs service used for o2 active and as the bearer for MMS
MOBILE WEB - this is a GPRS service which is configured to allow full IP/TCP traffic through it,something GPRS doesnt. it is also charged at an extremely cheap rate as it is designed for business users.
if u ping the wap.o2.co.uk and mobile.o2.co.uk then ull see theyre different servers. mms server is configured to only use wap.o2.co.uk and its bearer.
so what does this all mean?
well simply if you want MMS then you can as long as you dont want mobile web.
for p800 users it means if you want to use opera then you gotta have mobile web but you cant have mms and vice versa.
the main thing not to do is to ring o2 and ask for mms AND gprs. just ask for MMS and then that comes with GPRS
think that all makes sense. if not i shall prepare for the flaming that seems to happen at the drop of a hat these days on esato

Hey everyone.
I dont have gprs or anything. I have a prepaid phone with cingular, the Sony ericsson T226. I want to be able to do MMS and send pictures and stuff. Is ther any that i can set it up without asking cingular because they will probably say no. I also want to know about the o2 service or whatever its called. I see you guys are talking about it and i would like to know some information on it. Like do you pay a monthly fee for it? I just want to be able to download ringtones and send MMS, pics etc. thanks
