still unsure w995 or Aino?

i really like both
but i dont know which one
if i get a contract the contract will be 24months long
so yeah.
basically i know w995 and Aino have good vvideo recordings and the pictures are good
but isnt the Aino too big? and if i use the Aino on like a snow day or wet day will it be suitable?
i had the w810i and i used that on a snow day and was fine.
but i am worried
with the Aino you have to use the touch screen for the camera dont you?
oh i dont know
any users?
thanks

ah
its annoying
i really like both
but aino is a bit long isnt it?

Posted by mallaccra
yup you are right and for me i don't need more than 3" display

Posted by Bonovox
I would get the w995 personally its much more stable at the moment too

Posted by mallaccra
@Bonovox
i thought you were a "little bit frustrated" with your ex-W995

Posted by Tsepz_GP
W995 any day. 3.5mm jack is a lot stronger than the fastport which after very heavy use during the year can wear out and start disconnecting by itself. W995 has the standard 240x320 res screen so most if not all java apps should work flawlessly, and its generaly a good all round phone.

Posted by TucoZizou9
i am mainly talking about the size of the phones
as in is the Aino suitable?
and ive heard some people are having problems with the w995s camera?

Posted by Bonovox
Mallacra yes I was but I would still prefer that one myself personally

Having used both phones. The Aino seems slightly thinner than the W995 but the same size with slide section closed. The only thing that I don't like about the Aino it than the phone has to be open to navigate through it whereas the W995 can stay closed until you need to use the keypad. Overall I like the W995 for the headphone jack, easy to use buttons. The kickstand is a waste of time imo. I like the Aino for its clean looks and again good keypad when you need to use it, PS3 connection, the package overall is quite good compared to other recent SE phones available lately. But my problem is I can't get on with sliders or full touchscreens which is why i've gone back to my P1i and C901. I may get a white Aino when my upgrade is due in March though. Most problems should be sorted by then hopefully.

imho for general purpose use with all round/complete features plus easy navigation, W995 is ahead of Aino right

Posted by hihihans
Don't hesitate to long, your problem will only get bigger when X10 is here.

Posted by brys182
for me, i'l go for w995.
i think it's more stable..

If you are in US, W995a is just $299 at newegg.com and u can use bing.com 10% cashback to get it for just $270. Unlocked and contract free.

i also want to buy a W995 but i have a question: how is the slider ? is it solid ?
i'm asking this because i'm sick of C905 which has the worst slider

Posted by kits
W995 slider is close to the best I've seen on sliders. But I thought the C905a (AT&T version) slider was good too. My son is using it for over 4 months now and there is no wobble.

Excellent pics!...

Looks can be deceiving, i thought Aino was bigger than it really is... Cant wait to see both of them in person...

Posted by hihihans
Very nice pics Sunrise. @ Tuco. On Aino you have to close it to use the camera. There is a shutter-button but you can also use touch-focus.

Posted by phonecrzy
if you're more for looks go with aino, if you're more for features go with w995. but i got to admit aino looks gorges and irresistible!

Posted by rss_ndrsn
Aino is not that big at all. It is actually quite small for me.

Posted by kits
Aino doesn't feel big at all. As a owner of both phones, I would stay with W995 even though there are so many nice things on Aino like big screen solid slider, etc. At the end of the day W995 will feel like a better phone because you can navigate the logs, make calls, navigate menu, browse, etc without having open the slider. Also, Aino is becoming a pain each day on how I accidentally touch call end button when phone is in pocket as there is no phone lock function while on call. Also, phone feels slower compared to W995. A lot slower actually. Mine is going to go back to SonyStyle.

Same sentiment over here, the W995 is probably the pinnacle of the previous SE technology. The Aino,Satio & other newgen phones will reach the same level of polish eventually but it will take a bit of time.

I Agree,

W995 is the best choice, it has the 3.5 mm port, the sound is just great, you can navigate the hole phone without open it, etc

Dude, go for the W995.

I still think that overall, w995 is Sony Ericsson's masterpiece. Feature wise, appearance and for me the best is the sound quality and durability. I am an owner of one for quite some time now and replacing it with a newer SE model has never crossed my mind since I've been really satisfied with the phone's performance. Not once have I ever used the 1 year warranty from timtechs where I got this phone from since the phone is just so durable.

+1 except for the placement of call/call end buttons to far from center. I am returning my Aino and probably will pick up W995a again if Newegg sells it again for $299 like it did on Cyber Monday.

I do not own or have used an Aino... but i can tell you that you wont feel dissapointed by the W995 performance, i bought one two days ago, and it really is a nice phone, the camera (still with original driver) performs quite nice, white balance is spot on most of the time....

Here are some of the good points both phones have:

W995:
-Nice design and finish (brushed aluminum)
-Dedicated Music Controls
-3.5mm Jack (with the possibility to connect another set of headphones through the fastport)
-Stereo Speakers
-Powerful LED flash
-Kickstand for watching videos/pictures

Aino:
-Touch interface (could speed up some tasks, such as scrolling through pictures)
-Remote Play (for use with a PS3)
-Better Camera (judging from the samples provided by Esato members)
-Higher video recording resolution (VGA vs QVGA)
-Bigger screen (should provide a better viewing experience [save for the odd resolution])

Thats all i can think of right now, hope it helps a bit....

build quality on W995i/a tends to be not so good though.

Is there difference in build quality between W995 and W995a? I doubt but would like to hear from someone who got their hands on both and explain what the differences are.

Posted by roanmy
I have the W995a, and my friend W995i.
They are both kinda flawed in their build. My friend bought hers in August, and I mine in late September.

Posted by sealover94
w995's quality is 9/10
aino's quality is 8/10

Wish w995 has a bigger 16/9 screen.. and the volume side-button NOT so low !!

Posted by islandprd
W995 has a better keypad than Aino. However Aino sound quality is far above W995 (both tested with a wired hpm 78). Mega Bass, treble and mid all comes out very strongly and naturally. The best music phone by SE, pity no 3.5mm adaptor provided.

I've used both and judging by SW issues only, I would suggest for now you go for the W995. The Aino has too many SW error issues.

Posted by islandprd
I am using them both now. Haven't got any problem with Aino. Mine was bought almost 2 week ago in Singapore, should be from the latest production batch. I really dont understand what's the crap about Aino software. As far as I know the touch screen mode is not meant to be a full touch screen mode, so combination of using a keypad and touch screen will solve the problem even on opera mini. That how Aino usage is intended for.

As for accidentally playing music while in the pocket, never happen to me. I simply off the screen with the knob on the top and it solves the acidental touch.

Your notion of 'kinda flawed' is too broad and bears no weight especially when many find the build quality to be solid. Perhaps you should elaborate to give your post some value?

I have to disagree here, my W995i has excellent build quality. The only thing worth complaining about is that the "8.1 megapixel" label at the back of my phone chipped away. Rest of the labels are intact though and the phone remains in excellent working condition after several months of pretty heavy use.

Posted by roanmy
The issues are the same on both of them, and it is mainly concerning the slider.
My friends' W995i is not too bad and "only" have the one corner, but mine is wobbly all over the slider, and it gets pretty annoying after a while. Also, the back cover on mine is not sitting right and is a little squeaky.

When it comes to paint etc mine seems fine, none of the letters have disappeared yet.

Posted by zxcorr
I'm sorry but I can't keep quiet after reading this. lol.

W995's build quality is not as good as stated here, IMO. The top part of the phone is kinda shaky especially when opened. And also the letters "Sony Ericsson" (on the front) and "8.1 megapixel" (on the back) can easily come off just like that.

For Aino, well, I don't know anything about it as I haven't seen the real unit.
But my friends told me the slider is a lot more firm and solid.

100% W995..............Aino is veeeeeeeeeeeery plastic compared to W995.

w995 is probably the best music phone out there.

great build quality........(best i tried among all phones)
good camera
great screen
awesome UI
awesome music features
great sound
great keypad, (way better then C905)

its a 9/10 cellphone

Posted by Bialynia
Why not the c905? Better camera with xenon flash then the Aino and w995, same features, its only downfall next to the w995 is the lack of outside music controls (which might be a deal breaker for many people, like lack of xenon flash is for me) otherwise it is rock solid. The Aino has VGA recording, that is really the main thing it has going for it for me, but is lacking a lens cover and xenon, but the w995 also lacks those. If you don't give a crap about photos I would get the Aino over the w995 since it takes better video and has the larger screen.

Posted by kits
Go with W995 and you will love it. If you go with Aino the touch implementation to handle calls and it's laggy interface might bother you. But if you first try out Aino and then try to go back to W995, it will be hard to like W995 because Aino:

- has great big screen with sleeker form factor than W995
- better email client which supports HTML
- great browser
- most of all it supports 16M colors colors unlike other SE featured phones that support only 256K colors. This means you can view all images when you browse sites from NetFront browser which I happened to like as much as Opera Mini on Aino.

I bet you that in 3 months those things will be flawless due to FW updates, I have always had to deal with bugs in SE phones at first, it comes with the territory.

If that happens, I might get back Aino for my wife. She really loved it but I told her to wait until the next version of this phone.

Kits, in 3 months they will have announced the "next" great SE phone and you'll wait for that one.

I'm heavily into podcasts & surfing and stuff (music for one) and being able to have the w995 on the breakfast table upright with stand, navigating web pages with one hand (coffee mug in the other) while listening to an Engadget podcast in clear stereo is something that makes my morning truly enjoyable. I guess the w995 appeals more to people who are really into the audio experience. Those buttons are a really big deal ,at least to me, btw
