A new Mobile Network has started today called GiffGaff
www.giffgaff.com

Posted by gforce23
Does anybody think they didn't really give the brand name a second thought?

It's going to be uphill battle for sure - Tesco & Virgin are way ahead of the rest.

Same prices as Asda.

Name sounds a bit gimmicky though.

What network do they piggy back off?

They're wholly owned by O2.

Oh thats interesting

Cool lol good name nice and cheap too

Posted by julias
yeah very cheap and free web as well for 6 months not bad at all

Wow thats so cheap 8p to landlines & other networks & 4p texts & the cheapest I seen 16p for sending a pic. Oh & free 0800 numbers. This could be one to go on it will attract customers no doubt but its on the crap unreliable O2 network

Posted by mriley
too good to be true?

Posted by Bonovox
Maybe a catch somewhere but I really don't like O2 much so not going to have this

Posted by stabilo
this network looks very good, maybe ill switch

Posted by PeterKay
website looks crap!

Posted by stabilo
haha good rates though

Posted by Bonovox
What's the deal behind the name? Its odd

Posted by Mr Miyagi
Am going to order a sim and use it as a spare number in my spare phone. I like the fact that the price of calls so cheap plus 0800 numbers free of charge to call from the mobile. Also international calls are cheap. Plus u can earn money too by recommending the service plus helping out on the website and answering questions. It's a really cool idea it's different but I like it from what I am seeing.

Posted by fluke9
And being O2 I bet you still don't get delivery reports without adding *0# at the start of each message.

Also you can't get a sim without a top up prior to them sending it out.

They are asking the users to let them know what to charge, at least that is what they are saying on the site.

Yep and nearly the same as Asda Mobile as well.

Think you also have to stay topped up to use free phone numbers

that is understandble. but at the end of the day, its still free. plus the idea of them wanting us to say how much we want to pay for the internet, seems good too. so this network seems to be a people kinda network really, where we can put our own idea's to the network in what we want, and the rates for calling are well cheap.

Posted by Bonovox
Yes if only other networks will listen to what customers want :@

Posted by Greggy
just an observation. sum1 said they use the o2 network. and vid call wont work with o2 payngo. yet on the site it states free vid calling between giffgaff users. so does that mean theyre using the contract signal?

Video calling not allowed on O2 pay and go? Thats poor. Not that many people use it but why does O2 treat its pre pay customers like rubbish giving second rate services

Posted by Greggy
Include no streaming. 10minute download cut off. And half the speed. And youl realise how crap the payngo service is compared too contract. Sumthing to do proxies i think

Posted by Bonovox
Yes but i dont get them nasty restrictions on Orange pay as you go

Posted by Greggy
Yeh just as i suspectd. Vid call and streaming works. And 3g speed is faster and more reliable. Meaning theyre using o2 contract signal rather than payngo

I just read everything on that site. Sounds great though very cheap. How do you pronounce it? Is it GiffGaff or JiffJaff? With all that 6 month free internet their offering its going to cripple the O2 network even more

I ordered the sim at like 3pm got it the following day. Even though I get loads of mins and texts. I am going to be using this sim as a spare sim for 0800 calls etc. Plus u only really need to keep it topped up every 3 month and that's £10 minimum. Which is not bad.

Posted by Bonovox
Plus free internet for 6 months

Posted by phonecrzy
hmm looks interesting, need to try this network, but i bet its behind a big brand. But i doubt it because the website is not very "professional" imo.

Posted by Greggy
u bet and then u doubt it? are u positive your not sure? lol

Am wondering why o2 is wasting money creating a new brand??

I don't think o2 made this brand, did they?!

News about bundles. They doing a 30 day unlimited data unlimitd texts and 100 xnet mins and costs 10 pound. Or u can buy a bundle with the same texts and web but with 300mins for 15 pound

Yep, backed by O2, found a story on The Register:

Years ago,..
after BT Cellnet where on the scene along came Bt Genie which (Both now operate as 02)
BT Cellnet were more Expensive but BT Genie had amazing and better deals just like this Giff Gaff thing!

Maybe 02 are just out to claim more customers this way

tbh you can get a good deal on any network today,
even a contract with a Mobile for £10 a month so this new thing isn't much of a eye batter in theory

Posted by Greggy
I think it is an eye batter as u call it. Combines the benefits of several networks. Its got basic cheap texts n calls like asda. Got free same net calls like 3. Gives unlimitd texts and web for 10quid. Which beats the majority of networks but u also get 100xnet mins. Which other networks are VERY loathe to offer cheap xnet calls

Well it's good if you wish to go on PrePay,
but I still think you get better service on Post Pay say!

Have just ordered my sim card ready for when my o2 contract ends in september. For what i'm currently getting form o2 I can get from giffgaff for just over £20 cheaper a month. All i'm using there days is messaging and internet with probably less than 100 minutes of voice calls a month so makes sense really. Don't need a new phone as i'm happy with my x10 mini pro and my Elm.

Posted by Bonovox
Using O2 lately though I have seen improvements no downtime for ages, much faster speeds it's great. Not sure how it will fair using O2 through GiffGaff

Posted by fluke9
My contract is up in little over a month with O2.

I am going to go with 3 sim only 12 month 2000 X network mins, 5000 3 to 3 mins, 5000 texts, and 1 GB internet for £25.

ByeBye O2.

Posted by Bonovox
I seen that yesterday it's a stunning deal 3UK are very good for value & coverage too now

Posted by Rookwise
@fluke
I saw that as well. Would be an excellent deal except we dont get a good signal where I live.
O2 do apparently have a tariff match thing but I mentioned to them about what 3 were offering and they said no.
Since the P1 I've always had smartphones for my upgrades until this year. I wanted another x10 or a Desire and was told i'd got to pay an additional 100 along wih putting my tariff upto 65 a month on a 24 month contract. No chance i'm doing that. I currently get 600 mins, 1000 texts and unlimited internet for 35 a month with o2 on an 18 month contract.
