Start those PM's, so I can find someone.
I think Muhammad-Oli did an EXCELLENT job last year & if se-love doesn't really have the time to host this thread, I think M-Oli should do it again.

Se_love: It's a bit hard to just give up because the mods can't just allow somebody to edit your post, so a whole new thread would need to be made which is a bit of an ask. Personally I can't do it because I don't have the time anymore with my study. Whoever takes the job will need to know for sure that they can actually do it until the end of the year.

Fair enough dude, it was out of your control. Don't worry about it, someone will be keen and we'll get it sorted. I know my_ninja was keen when I finished up my year so maybe you could get in touch with him.

I suppose I should just give up on SE releasing a candybar, qwerty touchscreen Android phone this year.
Was looking forward to buying it to replace my P1. Until my slow P1 dies on me, in which case I'll probably go dig up my Blackberry 9700 from its box, I won't be getting another phone until, hopefully, SE comes up with that phone.

Aspen?
Posted by tranced
Aspen won't replace the P1. Or at least my P1
I mean, I don't feel like sacrificing the led and video recording. In one or some words: the P1 is one of its kind.
Posted by bodeh6
Plus Aspen is WinMo 6.5.3.
Posted by Dups!
@tranced
Amen to that, brother!
@bodeh6
Just to add, I hate the small screen of the Aspen. The P1 replacement should be at least 2.8' or 3 and Android as I'm not into Window Mobile/phone.

Sure.
I understand yor concerns.
I had the same when was switching from P990
to P1.
Now I don't regret and start to really enjoy X2 on WM 6.5
which is actually great.
Posted by tranced
The X2 is a big deal compared to the Aspen. I agree with you here

Yes, nice piece!

I have wondered what would the world be like if the k and w series still alive. I know we won't be seeing them again, will we?
Posted by domipost
W series is alive, no? There should be some W-phones in the pipeline, no?
Posted by tranced
Yeah, I remember goldenface had posted something about it. But it is in 2010 only. Don't know if they will continue making them.
Posted by domipost
Think so. The W-series are still pretty important to gain some market share with the youth.... Apart from that it would be dumb to not make a follow up to the W995
Posted by bambarah
I agree with you guys ..
W should countinue in more competitive way
must think of competing the iPod for example by the Walkman

It's getting awfully quiet now.... When is the next scheduled announcement? Last I heard it was going to be around April, can anybodg confirm this? Also, is there a phone where Sony is leading the development? That's all that's holding me back from buying the x10. A phone where Sony is actually in charge.

I think there's none....

why don't SE make a new a new walkman phone that's a touch screen ( capacitive not resistive ) and make it compete against the ipod touch but they should use there own UI and make a new store just for the new UI they will make and then get a lot of developers to create apps for it. I think this will be a good idea only if SE do it and make the application creation tools easy to use and free to download

Have finally fixed their leaky faucet? Why have the leaks & rumours stopped people? Why have we not seen anything new since MWC?
Posted by bambarah
usually when launching the last awaited mobiles , they start leaking news
we still have the Vivaz Pro , X10 mini & X10 mini Pro
I also expect a low end mobiles after these mid and high end ones
I wish they announce a newer interface rather the recent A200
Personally I think it should be close to that one on X10 mini

Well, WP7 has messed up things for most companies. Its an important market so everyone is scrambling to get theirs out. MS are still developing their OS, very limited access for customisation and its a total mess. The OS lacks copy and paste so if were to try and add their own function, its going to be a problem. Lots of things to consider so a lot of time is being spent in development. Maybe no panels or Walkman player in the X2 successor but things could change. Not many people are happy with MS. For the time being it seems that all the phones will be very similar, people will probably just buy the phone with the longest battery life, its that lame at the moment.
Some low end stuff to come, I heard that something unspectacular could be announced in April with a Summer release. The next supposed big thing is between June and early September. Its really slow at the moment.
Posted by emuneee
The crazy thing about WP7 is how limited it is, even in comparison to the iPhone. I think most mainstream consumers are better off skipping the first iteration of WP7...at least I am. I think the second release we will finally start seeing what the platform is capable of. This was how it was with Android and the iPhone.
I'm curious to see what Sony ericsson has coming next even though I am going to try out some other companies handsets in the meantime.

i prefer zune(&xbox) anyway.
give it some nice design(no 4inch screen) and ship it - that would be fine for me

@badassmam
Yes it is intriguing thing this whole WP7 situation........
I mean manufacturers WANT to customize their products.
I also don't imagine copy&paste lacking there.
There were signs MS is "considering" this after comments
and complaints.
This is a big surprise......
However the interest in WP7 is big.
I still thing WP7 wil be a serious thing.
However multitasking and txt operations are a must
a complete idiot can consider one-click links opening
as any REPLACEMENT of copy&paste.
What about any Office or mail text edit?!
So how should one work?
Erase everything and write again?
It's like a joke.....

The funny thing, I bet Microsoft was shooting for the iPhone when it developed what WP7 can and cannot do. Ironically enough, Apple has copy/paste and rumoured to start supporting third-party multitasking....so MS is going to have to work at a breakneck speed to prevent this gap in features from lingering around.

Like them or not WP7 one of many recent ballsy moves from Microsoft, who are clearly holding their hands up and admitting that several of their market's have switched direction and they're going to have to do the same if they want to continue to operate in them.
Describing the move to WP7 as a re-boot couldn't be more appropriate, the step to get where they are to a genuinely user oriented device was huge. The steps to re-enable multitasking, cut & paste and UI customisation are relatively small and will be taken in response to market feedback. The iPhone is missing many "geek critical" features and is a huge success. Whatever my views, they realised that the market wants attractive, reliable, easy to use devices and made one. For example, my Satio has dlna support, I know it does, I found it in the menu the other day. I know how to use it, but can't imagine I ever will. How many customers care about this, or will ever find or use the feature, certainly not the hordes of people in the largest segment of the market.
Whatever happens in the future, this is a platform that should enable to quickly release stable phones with considerable market potential. That can't be a bad thing and I can't believe that the X10 platform is very far from supporting this. Sadly are getting very good at holding sealing leaks, but it'd be nice to know that there's an device there very soon after launch. I'll certainly be trying to get hold of one.

Codename - Samba. Has a very nice design.

After the mostly high end releases recently I don't think anybody should be disappointed with a low end phone or phones particularly at this early part of the year. There is still a market for those and SE would be foolish to ignore that. A good experience with a low/mid end SE usually leads to a purchase of a high end SE from a consumer's perspective, so it makes sense that they cater for that market. I just hope those phone are not SAGEM made cause that would be a horrible user experience!
Surely there are bound to be a few high end phones towards the end of the year. I just hope that SE announces when they have one month ro go before release.
I also wish/hope for a candybar QWERTY phone like the P1/Aspen running Android.

I'm not that eager. Q1 is a generally quiet anyway and few new phones started shipping so I'm expecting more of the same really.

A good example of the mid to low end is the Elm/Hazel phones. I recently bought the Elm and for such a low priced phone its performance features and reliability are nothing short of amazing. Lets hope they get noticed and sell well. When I ordered my Elm O2 had actually sold out they were doing an easter online special of £100 which I managed to get in store

We have been hearing the codename 'Samba' being thrown around over six months now.... And barely any details yet! Wow! I hope an announcement is coming soon. I'm getting bored again....

Well, we at least heart it's Spiro with some nice design this week

I hope it nice to covering their spec

is there any high end toch screen walkman phone is going to be launches because there is no high end walkman phones from sonyericsson since long time??
Posted by Phoner
There is a prototype that looks similar to Vivaz but is an Android 2.1 based Walkman. I hope it will be announced and released soon.
Posted by goldenface
That sounds interesting. I hope more Android goodness comes our way and more Walkman too.
Posted by Dups!
That'd be good for SE's sales. I wonder when is the upgrade to 2.xxx for the X10 is coming cause I can just see a lot of fuming X10 owners should this Android 2.1 'Vivaz' release before the X10 gets its update.
I am still waiting for a P1i/Aspen, 3'' screen Android phone. Preferably with an TI OMAP processor. I know it will likely ship with Qualcomm's Snapdragon, assuming that SE is planning a phone like that.
