Looks are subjective.I for one totally love the Vivaz for its curves and portability.

@Dups!

LMAO! That's not the impression I get, I think synn's humour comes across a bit dry but I wouldn't say he comes across as pissed off!

@goldenface

Yes, I am with you. I was just taunting him.

Btw, isnt the SE tablet due too?

Posted by goldenface
Apparently and Robyn has been identified as the'square' phone.

Do we have any details of the tablet at all? Size?

Well it was quite obvious how bulky it was, so yeah square phone it is then. Can't believe it, I thought it would be more innovated, and abstract, but what can we do, its a good start in making products accessible to everyone even if it means such dire measures.

What makes you think Robyn is 'the' square phone, maybe there are squarer out there? Sadly, there are some strange phones that have been cancelled that you may never see. It is good to see them to understand the way they are heading with their designs. Reese live was actually quite nice, I would have been interested if it were to be released. I remember this W910 they made with touch screen and UIQ which was ugly but then you see where Paris came from if you compare.

The tablet is more likely to be a net book or even smaller like the tiny Sony thing. I think that a tablet is too risky for them considering their financial results. I don't think that people realise how big a deal it is to make such a loss. Lesser losses is still nothing to be proud of, they have to dig deep and use funds saved up to operate. That means cutting other projects like Reese sadly and the pressure is now on fewer products to be successful. Its better to have a large portfolio with mediocre sales and if you get lucky, the feature phones are successful and bring in most of the profit like the good days. You expect everyone to get X10 and Vivaz and if it fails, what do you fall back on? That would be a massive blow.

All eyes on MWC for the Xperia 'range' hopefully, to do the business. Competition is tough though, some very nice phones will be showcased and some big strides will be taken.

Posted by 10123
Hopefully SE will showcase some cheap TS phones, if they don't they will not make a profit profit from the X10 or Vivaz or any other high end phone they have planned.

On http://blogs.sonyericsson.com/products/ they said that Vivas is the second phone in the family of Communication Entertainment phones. So is it not under Entertainment Unlimited and will there be more phones under the EU umbrella?

Also, is there a way to know how well a certain model is selling? Like how many million phones have been sold? I saw a report saying over 10 million Samsung Stars have been sold. It would be interesting to know how much W995s, Satios, Ainos, Yaris, X1s have sold so far.

Will be a Andorid 2.1 Phone from SE at MWC without UX gui????

Posted by mediar
No, of course. The Nexus UX interface is great, why would someone wants to remove it?

Seriously though, I am really looking forward to 'Abelin' cause my P1 has served and continues to serve me extremely well even though it has become slow by today's standards. Se just needs to be more SE-ish in design and not Nokia-ish. I want that sex appeal of the X1, X2, X10, Satio and even the P1 on 'Abelin' cause it will be what I need on a phone. The P1 was a one of its kind with that QWERTY+Touchscreen combo and it works brilliantly.

I really hope they don't give a Faith lookalike cause I will puke. Nokia would hev been proud of Faith's design. I also find the Vivaz ugly which makes me think they have lost their damn minds in that design department!

P1 is still a masterpiece, now slow against competition but strong enough to carry out regular works smoothly. I am using one and I didn't like anything else much better so had to move back to it. I am looking for X2 tho, Beautiful design. However I am not jumping for Vivaz design, I tried to like it but it is just not SE -ish as you said as well.

We need something brilliant like P1, something as good looking as X2 and as powerful as X10. Perhaps X2-like form for WinMo7. And I strongly wish Sony Ericsson to re-consider P5 with new design. Faith is just not there, they could do a lot better job with it.

It'd be interesting to know about the EU thing indeed. The model name (U5) suggests it is an EU phone, but it is marketed as an CE phone (and so is X10, which is actually an Xperia). I think EU and Xperia have to do with focus, media and productivity that is, while CE is the more bigger picture with the UX-interface and such.

PointGPhonesaid that Abelin may be announced during MWC along with Robyn. It will sports a 5 megapixel camera and a form factor similar to Blackberry/with physical keyboard. More infor here.

i hope the keypad is as effective as the blackberry and the screen is 3 inch to match the future htc offering

I'm not totaly sure of what I read

but Vivaz has Flash Lite 3.0 , does that mean it can run stored FLV files ??

Posted by Giovan
3inches screen and blackberry form factor?? It sounds crazy. I would prefer a X1-X2 form factor. Badassmam or Santa Claus could you please bring us more precisions on Abelin?

then the htc trophy which will launch in may is a crazy product (albeit it will running on WM6.5) coz it has a 3 inches screen and potrait QWERTY keypad (a.k.a blackberry form factor)

Posted by Dups!
Badassmam confirmed the 3'' screen. I also hope it is like the Blackberry in keypad tactile feedback. Most of all I hope it carries that SE beautiful design cause this is more like what I have been waiting for to replace my P1i. I tried replacing the P1 with the BB 9700 which lasted 2 weeks and went back to its box. I just got quickly bored with it though I really love the BIS that comes with it.

wait wait wait 3" screen?? Is Abelin the famous square phone?

Posted by Dups!
A 3'' screen isn't much in such a design. As already pointed out, I have a P1 with a 2.6'' screen which could easily be 2.8'' if the dead space between the bottom screen and keypad are fully utilised. So, my guess is that 'Abelin' is going to be slightly taller than the P1, maybe 112mm.

Posted by badassmam
@Dups!

I never said that Abelin has a 3' screen, I was talking about the HTC Trophy. HTC will have an Android version of Trophy anyway, they are going to show 7 Android phones at MWC apparently and some WM handsets as well! They have a Tattoo with qwerty which is nice, I expect a high end Android qwerty from but a cheaper one would be a smart idea as well. I have learnt that there are quite a lot of Xperia phones around. I don't know much about them as these are very hush hush. Maybe 2 at MWC that have not been leaked at all? If we don't get much 'innovation' I would like to see a step up in terms of features like OLED for example in the same way that 3.5mm jacks are common.

Posted by Dups!
Ooops!

Sorry, must've have confused it with HTC's Trophy.

Would be nice to have a 3'' screen on 'Abelin' though.

Dont you think a 3 inch screen with portrait qwerty, is a little too big?

just a little smaller than X10 i think..but still, some people prefer hardware keypad with decent screen size.(provided that the qwerty keypad is excellent )

Posted by se_dude
How can it be smaller than the x10, given that with the same screen size there would be a portrait qwerty protruding.

by removing the dpad and call and end button..jus like p1i

Posted by Dups!
@se_dude

With the P1 dimensions of 109X55X17 (mm) at 2.6'' in the screen area which, as I already pointed out, could easily be a 2.8'' I think a 3'' QWERTY touchscreen phone won't be any big. I can see the following figures for it: 112X55X12 which means it is shorter than a Blackberry Bold 9000 at 114mm or the Motorola Droid/Milestone at 115mm. So, it is still within acceptable size considering that the X2 and the N900 are the same height as the P1 at the 'standard' 109mm.

Total recall?

Brave name for a handset given some of their recent hiccups

Posted by c96sthl
SE is the only mobile phone sponsor for world cup 2010. They better make sure they have a phone to enable high quality live video streaming of the matches. Hopefully something will be out before the tournament.

Posted by mediar
Maybe Vivaz?

Posted by se_love
Recall should be the action of store managers towards that phone.

What the...??? Recall is the name?
Hope that wouldn't be recalled when it hits the store due to problems....

Posted by goldenface
Well lets hope that isn't the official name.

I can just see a headline now, "Sony Ericsson's New Handset Recall", and everyone would be thinking Blimey! Not again?

rog just mentioned on our forum se-world.info that you're not quite off if you think of Abelin (XPERIA X9 Exposure) as a slider. Original quote:

Mit ausschiebbar liegt man nicht schlecht, wuerde ich sagen

Posted by domipost
They mention a smaller version of the X10 due for MWC. Robyn, anyone?

Posted by king-james
domipost: I think they mean Robyn.

Posted by xell
Oh, se_dude, when you're ripping info from this thread and post it on M-R, it would be nice to not try to look like an insider and f**cking state the sources, Mr. "its a slider no doubt".

Posted by se_dude
Oh sorry. My apologies.

Posted by goldenface
@badassmam

If you are expecting OLED screens, would they be fine in daylight conditions compared to normal TFT? I'd hardly call it an innovation otherwise.

Posted by Dups!
No, no ,no!

Not a slider please! I need a candybar like the P1 or the ugly Faith. This is disappointing for me. I am really being pushed towards full touchscreen phones which I don't like also.

if it has the p1 type qwerty, then still a problem for you? the slider would obviously allow for a bigger screen.

Posted by Dups!
@>500

That'd still be a problem, yes. I hate any type of sliders! Too many moving parts which means less durability.

My options are getting limited with each rumour. I like SE better than any other manufacturer but they aren't giving me what I long for. I have a brand new Blackberry Bold 9700 that I upgraded to two weeks ago that has gone back to its box. It has a lovely keypad and an excellent screen with a fast processor but it is no P1 and never will be. I am looking at the HTC Trophy which looks like it could be a P1 replacement but I am not too keen on HTC for a number of reasons. The only other manufacturer that I wouldn't mind buying from is Motorola but they have no such phone yet, they can't beat SE in terms of styling but they are my preferred choice after SE.

I can only hope there are plans for SE to release 'an Android P1/Faith like phone' that looks stylish and well equipped in the specs department.

I'd be happy if there was a HD Android phone in the works.

Is Abelin (?) Android 2.1?

Posted by FMW300
Could someone in the know please confirm if there will ever be any more Cyber-shot & Walkman branded phones? Plus what version Android might Robyn be?
