I don't think they will announce anything at the show, some lower end stuff could appear though. A bit off topic but Samsung at CES have a PMP with a transparent screen like the Pureness but in colour. A few reports say that it is a touch screen but I don't know for sure. Its called the Samsung IceTouch. Is it fair to assume that the next Pureness will have a colour screen and even a touch screen? Are Samsung releasing a transparent touch screen phone of their own? You have got to love the progression of technology.

A lot of people are being a bit rough on Kanna. Its actually a fine piece of kit. All Symbian touch phones have the same UI, you pay 500 squid for a Omnia HD and you get the same thing so what can you do? It makes you wonder if each company is allowed to change anything apart from the home screen. A bit of UIQ on this type of hardware would be pretty awesome, it would be something different that people have been looking for and unique to and in such a climate, an interesting option.

Will google/winmo help SE to make a comeback or let it fade into the dark like motorola or wrost like siemens ?

I would be careful about mentioning Motorola. Their sales of the Droid/Milestone have been quite impressive.

While I personally have a strong dislike for Symbian, for the average consumer, it really doesn't matter what operating system the phone uses. They are just concerned about gimicky features and I think this device has it all. Sony Ericsson seems to have taken an interesting step of offering one phone in two versions, reaching out to as much of the market as possible. Coupling this with a fair price, this could be successful even with Symbian.

From that standpoint sure, no one will have complaints. From the other one though, people here with trouble on the Satio, will know or at least think, to stay away from this.

Badassmam, about the samsung..did u mean this?

I know it's a little off-topic but I can see a lot of people saying Samsung's offering is such an innovation and amazing. The very same people that thought the Pureness is/was crap will suddenly be singing Samsung praises.

Funny that.

Posted by jack00
i really don't understand why se can release the pureness for the masses
or is that production failure-rate for the display so high, that mass production is simply not possible ?

Posted by kreacher
^ I thought Pureness was not for the masses because its an expensive phone (not to mention the concierge service).

Back on topic - Any news of a K810 successor, i.e. Cyber-shot with Xenon flash in a candy bar form factor (with Wi-Fi & GPS of course).

I'm looking out for this as well. the Cybershot bloodline seems to have been broken. K750i>K800i>K850i>zilch. There is still a demand for candybar cybershot, the K800i was one of SE's best ever selling phones. The K850i was quirky and unusual and if it was in a more conventional design it wouldn't have been so troublesome initially.

We know Aino is supposed to carry the torch but I miss the high end Candybar design. Not everyone demands a 3" screen on their phone.

That looks like a toy version of the freaking X10! I really wanna know where the hell SE's head is for 2010. And here I am thinking they'll start doing wonders for 2010....I guess not! Effing ludicrous SE, effing ludicrous.

Well if it is half the size AND the price then what's to laugh at? The language choices in the pic

But would it be X10/2? X5 or 1/2X10?

True but a 2 inch touchscreen? Man its like your dealing with an android powered PMP with a 5MP camera.

I'm sure somebody will eventually measure it but that isn't 2". Its at least 2.4", but my guess is 2.6"-2.8" which would be ok.

Posted by king-james
I think the screen could be 2,6" - 3", but not 2"!

Posted by goldenface

Cute. The X10 is tall and wide. Robyn is more pocket sized.

Not my kind of phone, but I like the idea. Enough people that want full touch, but don't want a big phone. Don't think the screen is much smaller than Corby and the likes. Though I bet this one will be a bit more expensive, but still

Posted by emo
nice if they would sell 'em cheap....
i'm worried about the virtual keyboard size

Posted by wiraperkasa
for now, robyn will have 5 megapixel camera, wifi, 3.5 mm jack and micro usb port...as stated in the semcblog

Posted by Dups!
It's not such a bad idea. The problem is this is an Xperia device and as such it is likely to be expensive. If this was going to be cheaper then I could see a lot of ladies having it, maybe even a few guys.

Robyn in 4 colors:

based on the background color on the screen, android it is..

Posted by goldenface
Oh wow I'm definitely liking the many colours.

I think they're onto a good thing with the X10 mini. No doubt it will be cheaper than the X10 but knowing SE it probably won't be that much cheaper.

Is that a flash unit underneath the cam?

Also, how come we can see the sides of the phones in the box and the phones look very thick?

Probably to hold all the technological goodies hidden inside. After all this is a snapdragon we're talking bout...

the phone have 2.6 screen
and its 81-82 in lenght

Posted by goldenface
Thanks. 82mm? That's really short - a nice handy size. I think this phone is gonna be quite popular, I've noticed though that it doesn't have the 'dual-front' design like most other SE phones.

I guess this will be announced at MWC along with the other two S60 devices.

Change it to A200/Android and we have deal.

X10/2 my dream device
but bring it to the market - i need a new phone contract now not in summer

Posted by FMW300
So, is this SE's new strategy? Release [almost] the same phone in different forms for different markets -- Kanna/Kurara & Rachael/Robyn? Though I do like the idea of a mini-X10, isn't this similar to their copy-paste strategy of yesteryear?
And since it seems like the end of Cyber-shot and Walkman branding, does this also mean no more music-oriented phones with shortcut walkman button and no more play/ffwd/rew dedicated buttons?

summer? That's soon.

Posted by miguel82
I hope not... since dedicated music buttons are much more usefull than a shortcut to image gallery or change video/photo mode like the ones they put on satio . But also hope that SE leave the 4different OS they have now, and use just 2 of them. For exemple A200/300 and Android. At least they may be able to do good stuff and not screwing around like they did on S60.

Posted by badassmam
Does Robyn not look a bit square to you? Maybe the squareness will become more apparent after a few more pictures. They could have at the very least changed the look of the buttons. If I tell my Dad to go and get me an X10, I am 100% sure he would come back with Robyn.

If you look in the background, the info says it will have Timescape. Virtual keyboard is fun, as you can imagine on such a screen but this is not the Xperia that I have heard of that is supposed to come at MWC providing that it is done in time. The next leak we should wait for is the qwerty Android, that is a more interesting and significant device.

FMW300i makes a good point, I personally would like to see a Walkman Kurara with hard music keys, its annoying having to do this type of function on a touch screen.

yes have stated they will focus more on the high end handsets in 2010, and less on the low/mid range. But they still have to cater for those markets with phones here and there of course. And thats what this is... A cheap (hopefully, by the looks of it) low (mid?) end phone. Something like the samsung f480's, lg cookies (or what ever they are). Those phones have sold by the bucket load. So good to see getting into this market. Though i think its a little more expensive than the cookie, perhaps more in the price frame of what the f480/tocco was at release

The square phone is robyn? Well you sure as hell said it, its going to get its fans and its enemies. Huh, seems like a Mini Spree is going on at LG as well. Lots of phones leaked from the same person(Kanna,Robyn, and the LG Mini thing) so perhaps more will come?

F480 was not that cheap at release. Think it was something like the Jét was and that would make around 300 euro's. SE has to come with something cheaper.

@se_love

The pics even contain a phone number, so I wouldn't bet on more leaks How stupid can you be to include your shop details in leaks like this

Bwahaha hilarious. Now no one is going to see anything else.

As I hate the new direction of phones getting wider and taller lately, I love the concept of the X10 mini, size wise at least. Would have been perfect if the display was a little bigger (3-3.2 inch), filling much more of all that empty space or making the device just a couple of millimeters taller.

Still, all I want is a candy bar phone, be it touch (3 inch screen or so) or with standard keypad (2.2 inch at least), with preferably an 8 MP camera, with 3.5 mm jack, SD micro slot, micro USB port and at most 105 x 50 mm in size. That would be my perfect phone.

Kurara comes close I think, but is probably too big still and I'm not too fond of S60... Hmm, perhaps I'm just very picky.

Until then, my K750i is still just fine.

Robyn reminds me of the Neonode. If the h/w is right and in the price is right then this phone is a potential monster seller for

Posted by idumbakumar
Damn robyn is so cute and compact but I don't like the screen resolution which seems 320x240 so no wife screen and missing a xenon, does it have stereo speakers? Doubt!

Posted by mediar
That mini-X10 looks nice, it has a small curve on the back, however it's quite thicker than X10. Did you spotted that the buttons on Robyn have this shape - __ / __ \ __ , while X10's have this one - __ \ __ / __ ?

Maybe Robyn is going to be the real successor of P1?

Anyone else sad that the square phone is the Robyn? I am, I was expecting something more....interesting.

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
To be honest, I don't like Robyn. Its proportions look odd and I don't think the market is calling for such a phone. A lower end Rachel without the size reduction would be a better bet. Personally I think Robyn looks like a Chinese fake phone. It looks cheap, especially with those buttons on the side and its obesity problems.
