Given that SE have struggled so much with regular old WM on phones like the X2, I just don't think they have the expertise or resources to get involved in WP7 - besides which, I just don't hold out much hope for WP7 as a contender generally. I think it's too little, far too late for Microsoft.

You can't commend on that after two phones imo...

Here is a new leak info from the same person who leaked Shakira, Teacake and 5" android phone photos.
I took the challenge to translate it from Chinese and also corrected the text to make it more readable:

"The testing has begun of a WP7 phone codenamed Julie. The phone has a sliding QWERTY keyboard. It has similar to X10 size capacitive screen that supports multi-touch. The phone will have 1GHz or faster processor."
Other information is not known. The text also mentions integration with Xbox games.

Well put it this way, they have yet to prove me wrong! The X1 had a lot of help from HTC (and was basically built on HTC's own reference design as far as I can see) and still wasn't exactly perfect. The X2 was all SE, although still quite tied to the now tired technology of the X1, and if anything it was much worse - even after suffering embarrassing delays which saw them lose a deal with Vodafone.

Of course they may surprise me, they may have their best and brightest on the case to turn this all around and produce something amazing with WP7, but I still think the safer course would be to stick with Android and concentrate on the one area where they've actually had some success recently.

Even if they do it well, investing in the development of a whole new platform like WP7 is going to take resources away from Android, potentially losing them any edge they've built up there, in order to deliver WP7 phones that potentially and against all Microsoft's hopes, nobody will really care about.

The right codename of this device is Jolie.

is the screen amoled?or still tft?i believe its qwerty keyboard is as great as X2, and the camera too.just concern for the screen...

WM7 should be easier for SE. They don't have to and aren't allowed to skin it. They or Sony are probably working on PS3 integration but there shouldn't be much more.

But that's exactly should be the strategy with Android too. I understand doing camera and media player apps. And preinstall those apps. But going vanilla android would be the biggest hit for them imho. Just think, they'll be the cool company that gets the latest updates. And seeing that most companies skin android, vanilla android is unique enough. And here's a question, can't SE have any input on the development through the OHA? And the se apps can be updated when there's an update.

Symbian, well I suppose the need to skin it as long as its still around.

A non-smart touch Walkman is pretty niche.

@xell

yeah, it is But what has that to do with Eldar?

Eldar said:

Ow, oops, I read "nice" in stead of "niche". My bad

If I am correct, the July phones should be released this year and the September ones are for next year. I think we will have very few phones released this year. wants to continue on from Pureness so expect something very attractive sometime in the future.

As for Jolie, soon after the release of WP7 you will realise how tight MS are with their OS. It will be a matter of buying the cheapest one since everything will have similar hardware. Its a shite OS which seems to be missing bit and bobs for the sake of making it pretty and fast. I think iPhone and Android will totally eat WP7 alive. Jolie is an X2 which has been forced to beef itself up by MS, at least you are guaranteed that there will be minimal software bugs. A WP7 mobile without a physical qwerty is utter whack if you actually use it for business purposes.

HTC Style, but i like it!

Posted by Phoner
Yes, but it has logo, it could also be KIRF...

Posted by rss_ndrsn
^It has the vanilla Android interface and the screen looks like a 4.3" one. I think it is just a photoshop.

Posted by JOJO2531
It is only a concept designed by Tob!s
Sony Ericsson Concepts - 2009

Posted by Phoner
Sorry, did not notice it was a concept.

Posted by rss_ndrsn
^I guess it is not a bad thing. It keeps some of our hopes alive for another high end phone this year.

Here is EXIF data of that original photo.

^Does K900 even exist? As far as I know, the K-series have long been gone.

Yea I'm pretty sure WP7 is going to be pretty barebones (compared to other platforms) this Fall/Winter just because its new. Hopefully they are able to quickly ramp up the feature set soon after the initial release.

So, to sum up, we have 4 unannounced handsets:

- Touchscreen, non-smart low-end Walkman.
- Shakira, Xperia handset sized between X10 & X10 mini.
- Qwerty Android with 5" screen.
- Hong, candybar Greenheart handset.

At least 3 of these should be announced soon? I know it is said the qwerty android is only now in testing. Wonder what other cool stuff has up their sleeve....

^Don't forget Jolie

And I think WM7 can be a real hit once it's polished and will have
increased functionality.
And can beat ugly Android in every regard.

It's of course to be seen and it's also my wishful thinking
but I see WP7 having huge potential.

I wait for that device from SE.

With Symbian I agree - there's nothing interesting to wait for
from this platform.

P.S. Once they made X2 usable
it's lovely platform (WM I mean...)

+1 I hope WP7 will have a native xvid support just like the last version of Zune HD OS. Android is fonctionnal but I agree it's ugly. Developping an UI under Symbian is a waste of time for SE. Symbian has no futur in the smartphone market.

I hope shakira is announced in white - that's if it exists.

maybe xperia pureness

^ I don't think we need another Xperia Pureness. The first one is really expensive and only few people would buy it.

Last week a Taiwan based company has made a demonstration of a transparent multitouch amoled screen (http://www.ubergizmo.com/15/archives/2010/06/auo_24-inch_transparent_multi-touch_amoled_display.html)

So this is the Shakira? I thought it was bigger (and thinner as well)... From what I see, it doesn't have a flash and the camera sensor is pretty small, maybe the camera will be 3 MP?

i hope they put an equaliser to this phone.

Exactly my first thoughts.

They could have used bigger display ( 3.2" instead 3" ) . However, it looks more beautiful than the first leaks. I hope X10 to get some the the new UI elements with the new 2.1 update.

And I think it looks worse than in the leaked photo In it it looked bigger and slimmer (let's say 12-13 mm thick). Or maybe it was how I was imagining it

Posted by mediar
Yea, I can't understand why are X10 minis and this one so thick. That's not nice, they shoud be slimmer.

Posted by goldenface
I'm really liking the design in white.

Posted by motvikt
Looks very good ;O. Exactly the same reaction I had to vivaz when I first saw it. Thought it looked fugly but it grew on me a lot
