i thought we would get 25 phones this year, including the key 5 (X10, X10 mini, X10 pro, Vivaz and Vivaz Pro)?

Then Spiro/Zylo has been announced. So we sill have 18 more phones. What happened?

Anyway I hope they would release that Walkman Android this year

The multi touch is a lesser problem as they expect more apps to cater for phones with this function.

I did not quite get this. Did you mean Android apps that do not require multi-touch or the other way around? If A lot of new Android apps will support multi-touch, then few applications will work on X10 as it does not have the multi-touch feature. Wouldn't that be a big problem?

The lack of multi-touch is my biggest gripe on X10. I tried a couple of X10 demo phones, I still got the same problem when scrolling down through the apps and swiping the screen from left to right (much like my experience with G1), I kept opening applications that I did not want to. Does this happen on Nexus One and HTC Desire?

Posted by badassmam
I guess 25 was way too ambitious!

Sorry if I was not clear, I mean that more apps will support multi touch which is a minor problem for the X10. It does not mean that the apps won't work but you do lose some functionality and could have stupid scrolling and swiping problems. The big issue is when you compare Froyo to 2.1, there is a significant difference in performance and many little welcome tweaks.

I heard from an insider that we probably won't have any more high ends until next year which sounds a little suspect.

That doesn't sound right (as you say). We're not even halfway through the year yet, and I doubt they'll go that long. Unless possibly your source meant no phones released, rather than announced.

I would expect to see a proper Satio successor at least announced, possibly even an X10 successor announced later in the year.

from mobile today
How many devices will you be releasing this year?
The total number of products, including last year's, will be 26. Clearly this is a huge reduction. There are the key five (see below), which will all be out by the end of Q2. Then there will be a number of Walkman products. Some of these will be better suited to prepay, so we will still have relevance in that segment from the middle of 2010 onwards; they will be around the £100 mark. So it's focused - 14 to 16 key new devices this year.

1. Zylo
2. Spyro
3. X10
4. X10 mini
5. X10 mini pro
6. Aspen
7. Vivaz
8. Vivaz pro
9. Hazel
10. Elm
11. Xperia Pureness
12. X2

So, there are still 14 more phones to come. I can see a few high ends in there.

@dups
That 26 is quoted as including last year's handsets. So that goes back further than Satio, Aino and Yari, and if memory serves me correctly goes back as far as naite, C903, Jalou, W705 and W715 to name a few. I think you'll find most of those 14 extra handsets there.

Posted by Dups!
@Ricky D

I thought they went as far as the X2 in terms of 'last year's phones', I could be wrong and you could be correct there.

If you are correct then it looks worse for this year's portfolio.

Posted by se_dude
What?Naite? W715? Are u friggin kiddin me?
SE are destined to announced a few devices end may or June given their history.

@dups
I suppose of the guy means released or announced but the question is asking about how many will be released so the answer is implied release. X2 was certainly released this year. The ones I mentioned before were last year with a couple others (can't be bothered to look up the ones I'm not sure of). I personally wouldn't be surprised if all that's been anounced is all that will be released this year, but I would be expecting some anouncements on some good highends for next year's release. I would also be disappointed if they don't spring a surprise hot handset for Christmas release. Every November for as long as I've taken notice they've released 'hot' phones, in recent years we've had Satio, Aino, C905, K850. But this year is supposedly unlike others and what we have now is a new Sony Ericsson changing direction, portfolio and emphasis so I'm prepared for that disappointment. I have an X10 and don't plan on changing it for a long time.

Isnt the / Sony colab phone meant to be announced this year? In any case, it sure sounds like some sort of playstation phone... if so, surely its going to be high end.

Posted by HxH
Just announce it, I'm tired of expecting on now

Posted by badassmam
I think Sony are looking to release a PSP2 this year so I would be surprised if there was a PSPhone. It could be that it has phone features but I expect it to be a hardcore games machine.

Low end Walkmans yes but I am thinking of mid and high end. The Walkman Android is a mid end, Satio 2 would be high end. 4-5 interesting devices but none more unfortunately, we may not even get a high end release this year.

@badassmam. I've always prefered gettin sonyericsson phones bt they havn't made anythin i've taken to in a while. Thinkin of da HTC HD2. Do u think i shud hold off for an announced sonyericsson thts jus as gud?

Wha? X10 mini luklike?

Posted by se_dude
SE are obviously playing it safe. The mid ends are the ones who will gorge in the profits. With the Fifa world cup breathing down our necks, i expect SE to ring in the announcements and market them like crazy in the coming month.

Posted by Dups!
Copy and Paste!!

I thought it rumoured to resemble the Vivaz. Why would they make it the same size as the mini? There is enough of the mini and pro for now. I thought the Vivaz size was decent enough.

I find this a bad strategy on SE's part.

ok before people start to post 'negative' comments, surely its better to wait for an official announcement or some leaked images of the ACTUAL product before posting

that is merely a rumour, and no visual evidence to go along with it...

around the same size as vivaz and with the same software as mini is my dream phone. Walkman branding wouldnt hurt too.

Make it happen SE!

Posted by Dups!
@>500

I would probably agree with you under 'normal' circumstances but that blog tends to be correct in its 'rumours' so I have a feeling we are looking at another bit sized Android phone.

Probably the only thing likely to change is the design but the size looks to be the same as the mini.

Posted by >500
even so, its still just a rumour.

people tend to get a little worked up when it comes to rumours i think a little patience goes a long way sometimes

Posted by Dups!
Fair point!

Looking forward to saying 'I told you so'

Really bad that it is without a LED flash. Why? Oh I know - it is a alkman...

Why black? Why not Walkman Orange?

Nice to see Walkman and Android coming together.

Posted by sambouka
If it's 11 mm thick, it's a winner

Posted by Phoner
That reminds me of the old times when many tried to get Walkman player from W960i to work on P1i (and finally succeeded).
I suppose soon the hot topic will be "how to get Walkman player on X10 mini/pro?"

Posted by se_dude
You must be kidding me.

Posted by pavlov's_dog
the screen looks like it needs to be wqvga with respect to its lenth. hope it's at least as cury as the vivaz.
Im waiting to be surprised by SE. I hope they'd realeas an X10 pro with slide-out keyboard, froyo and multitouch.
and I want an android Vivaz!!!

Posted by dancingfate
Hmmm.... TeaCake?

Posted by >500
surely for it to sell well would have to differentiate it quite a bit from the x10 mini. i mean, a player and (possibly) 8/16gb internal memory aint that much different.

if these leaks are legit of course... i for one think the vivaz size would have been the better option

edit: i cant really tell if its more vivaz sized or x10 mini sized

yeah i know the site that listed it is quite reputable.... but i was just sending a warning out to all the complainers lol

I don't know what do you think, but in my opinion that photo is fake and I have my reasons to do so. I am going to wait until the official announcement.

EDIT: Is someone going to update the first post of this topic?

I know, just teasing!

Honestly, this would've been better in Vivaz's size. How much of a difference is this going to be compared to the mini? I still say bad move from SE.

If someone has a problem or for some reason the mini develops a major problem that retailers start warning people about because of high return rates this walkman is going to have a hard time being picked by consumers as it looks similar to the mini which developed issues.

What I'm saying is SE should have moved away from the similar design and completely differentiated this from the mini.

Design plays a role in sales as well and this time around they have missed that part.

Posted by Phoner
Unfortunately, I do not have reasons to think that it is fake. Just add the picture to the information posted in semcblog and it looks genuine to me. BTW it should be anounced in June and released in Q4 2010.

I'm sure they could put all that hardware into a Vivaz body, I doubt people will get such an amazing multimedia experience on that tiny screen. Technically the Vivaz is a competitor for the Nokia 5800 but the Walkman branding would make a big deal on Android. I think that are being retarded, the new iPhone will storm the sales charts again so why not put Android on Vivaz and a fat orange W? Big screens are in, music has always been in and Android is in. Maybe they're stubborn like Nokia, their fans must be thinking why they don't go with Android or WM?

Why not make a Walkman X10 with a worse camera? It could run well with a weaker processor and a cheaper casing etc. Its a no brainer when the X10 is the first phone from in a while to live up to its hype, the sales prove this. The Xperia brand is nothing compared to Walkman, its no wonder Sony want to have more control over the company because suck worse than Andy Murray or even Lampard's penalties.

Man, if that mini Walkman is THE Android Walkman phone, I'm very disappointed. The main thing I dislike about the minis (so far at least) is the battery life and I can't see a Walkman branded X10 Mini last longer than one without the Walkman brand... too bad.

It's too bad that I've been waiting for an awesome mid end Sony Ericsson music phone for a long time already and it seems like a Nokia budget phone (the X2) will best all of SE's offerings of the past year! (in terms of size, form factor, 3.5 mm jack and awesome battery life, the things I wanted most) And all that at around or below 100 euros! Oh well, guess I'll wait until E3 at least, but otherwise the X2 seems ideal for me.

The phone won't run Android...

Posted by io_bg
I really hope the picture on the previous page is fake... A Walkman-Android phone (in Vivaz's shape) would be a bestseller! The minis are becoming too many.

Posted by Dups!

Seems a lot of people are disappointed with the phone being a mini. Why am I not surprised?

SE knows how to shoot itself in the foot.

Posted by mustafabay
The only way it is a Mini walkman and not a shot in the foot is 8GB of internal memory and the price being just right. Of course don't forget the better accessories.

Posted by Legen
Shame. An android walkman, with at least a 3'' screen wuld have been amazing. I'm sad

Posted by juris15
maybe that was the mini version of the vivaz-android walkman...

Posted by io_bg
juris15 - if you only knew how much I want this to be true

woot? Strange decisions by SE :S

And what the hell is up with rebranding the same phones, isnt that what got SE in this mess in the first place

Posted by rss_ndrsn
SE's strategy right now is really funny. HTC makes plethora of Android devices with big screens and powerful processors while SE, on the other hand, likes it in miniture form. I guess SE is back from making plenty of mid-end phones. I smell another decrease in market share in the long run. SE has never learned their lesson.

if it's android, why the phone in the picture on the previous pages only has 1 softkeys instead of 3?
