@sype
The removal of the backup and restore app has been known for a long time now so it should really have been expected and been prepared for. There are plenty of backup and restore apps on the android marke including some good free ones.
As for your reboot problem. Try reflashing the phone again and then start the phone but only go through the initial setup. Leqve the phone on the homescreen for about 5mins then reboot the phone. Then sort all the settings etc that you want in the phone.
It can take a while for the phone to reconfigure itself after flashing. Also. As Gingerbreads filesystem is sorted a little differently (including memory card folders) its advisible to backup you memory card onto your computer. Format the memory card via Gingerbread and then transfer all your content back.

Might help in sorting your problem out.

I read that put a blog up on there Mobile Site on the x10's
so the update will now be delayed till they make it good enuff for us now :/

Still nothing for Global Generic software. I'd have thought the Generic Global firmware would have been one of the first to be made available.

Flashed to German Generic then updated with SEUS. I'm on GB now and a very happy camper. 2.3.3 is sweeeet

Posted by caff111
What's the easiest way to backup all apps and user data before upgrading to 2.3 for unrooted X10? Thanks

wasn't that a couple days ago? people are confirming GB updates so it seems it has gone live now. I will probably have to wait another week or so for the x10a

Available on AU Generic, much better device now

I say as I'm about to get an Xperia Arc :-/

Just waiting to go to work so I can download some Gingerbread from XDA and install using Flashtool. Will let you know what I think of it later this evening.

@Tsepz Is your phone still in for repairs?

odd, remove the battery and then turn it back on, if still has the same problem, then try to reflash the firmware?

Does Gingerbread bring autosetting for the cameraflash ?

Posted by Indiandawg
Finally!! I'm very happy about the news. Is it out in India?

Nope. It's the same app as in 2.1.

Overall this update is pretty nice. My x10 now works as it should for quite a while now, but hey, better later than never

One interesting new feature is a CRT screen off animation, something that many people are dying to have in their phones...

So big + for SE for keeping X10 alive

Cheers everyone for their advise, reflashing the firmware seems to have worked.

shame. would have been nice to have an onscreen button for the flash. i hate having to go through the menus just to turn on the light!

Still no update for Generic Global... Spose we have to wait until SE are back at their offices on Monday.

Posted by Indiandawg
Why is everybody so quiet? I mean 2.3 is out, I was expecting a lot of reviews.
Is the update out in India?

Posted by sudhakarvytl
No the update is still not available in india. I have installed it through the flashtool and enjoying the 2.3 update.

Posted by Hobbs
Indiandawg I've had it for a day now and no complaints from me.Still checking it out.I had the custom Gingerbread from XDA for a while so the transition was'nt so big but its a relief to have a fully functioning Stock rom that is 100% satifactory.Thumbs up to SE for this update and not just forgetting about us X10 users.

Keep your beady eyes on XDA X10 forums over the next couple of weeks.Theres gonna be lots of cooking in the dev kitchens.

Posted by Indiandawg
Thank you guys. Looking for this update.

OK,I'm having problems with this Stock Gingerbread 2.3.3 I flashed from the new Flashtool thread on XDA.Reboots galore.Might have to wait until its officially released in South Africa. Its strange because when my phone is in Aeroplane Mode or just GSM only in Preferred network mode the phone is absolutely fine.Works flawlessly. Its when I choose the WCDMA only or GSM / WCDMA (preferred) in the settings that the phone every now and again reboots itself. Most annoying.I think it has issues with this new 2.1.71 Baseband. It doesnt like my 3G/3.5G connection.Any ideas?

@Tsepz Get Gingerbread on your damn phone.I need to share notes.I have to have 3G/3.5G or whats the point.I wonder when its gonna be available for us here in South Africa. That should solve my problem.

If anyone else is having a random reboot issue after flashing the Generic version 2.3.3 build 3.0.1.G.0.75 from XDA please let me know and how you solved it,if you did.

hi guys,
anyone know if the 2.3.3 has been released for the Nordic customized handset?
thanks.

Posted by moogoo
@Hobbs

I recall reading on the XDA thread while i was skimming through, someone saying that SE is optimizing the update for the different markets. Perhaps that's the issue you're having though that would be pretty strange. Hopefully once the official update comes out for S.A., your reboot problems will be resolved. In the mean time, hope you can figure it out.

I'm currently waiting for the update here in the America. I've read people with X10a's updating with the tool on XDA but I'm weary and don't have a problem waiting another week or so to get the official.

Good luck.

@Hobbs
Someone in a forum had the same problem and it was solved with the repair option on SEUS. Maybe the fix is as simple as that or a reflash.

The update is really sweet for me as I've never tried any custom roms before because none of them had a fully functional SE camera which I am highly dependant on so this was quite a jump One weird thing I have to mention though, I flashed to German Generic before I could update with SEUS but after it updated to gb my kit is now World Generic. Doesn't make sense right? Other than that some media files I had on the memorycard are missing now. They probably got erased due to a reshuffling of the filing system on gb so it's good practice that you back up the contents of your memorycard before updating So far everything about the update is great except that the screen is somewhat a wee bit less responsive on the stock browser and features for the stock music player has been stripped practically bare with only the addition of the equalizer to make it useable. I miss updating my album art on demand already Wifi signal seems stronger and waiting time to use data connection after switching it on is considerably less. Speed is excellent but of course this is coming from someone who's never used a custom Rom

Does anyone have a rooted X10 on stock gingerbread already? I need to make screenshots and somehow MPE is not working. All market screenshot apps need to be rooted

Posted by Hobbs
Reflashed the phone numerous times with the same result.
The reboots are so random that I can't tell what's causing it.
The first signin to the Market is where it all starts.Up
until then everything seems fine.Random reboots after
that.Going to do a repair.Im sure the update I get
through PCC or SEUS will work perfectly.Im all flashed out.

What u guys use in backuping all apps and user data? My backup pro??
Or do u guys download the apps again from market??
Why google don't make it easier for users to backup all apps and user data?

I updated my X10 to the pre-rooted 2.3.3 version posted @ XDA... All i have to say is that speed improvements alone are enough for recommending it... In my case the phone is so smooth while scrolling through the app tray, contacts, everything...

Quite happy to have root too

Ill break down some points Im loving about this update:

-Camera UI: Responsiveness improved, the picture saving process takes less time, have not tested video yet.
A Con: Vignette does not longer show the auto flash option, now its only "Flash Off".

-Music player: EQ and Playlists in the native player are a good addition.
Media Discovery is fine, with it, you can check out media content posted by your friends @ Facebook.
The music widget is nice.
-Gallery: Much better than the one included in Eclair, better looking and more functional.

-Arc Launcher: I really like this new launcher, it lets you have folders in the menu bar, which is a great convenience.

-OS UI: Quite nice looking, i prefer it over the stock 2.1.

Overall, this update is totally worth it, besides, you get extra functionallity, i.e.: Wifi Tethering and native flash support, which works great.

On a side note, the Sony Ericsson Backup and Restore app did work for me (fortunately), as I had the most recent backup of my contacts and SMS/MMS in that app... Dont know if it is because my phone is rooted, but i recall SE saying that it wouldnt work... Im glad I tried anyway....

Thats all I can think for the moment, however, there is more to it than this....

Thanks SE for this.... and thanks DoomLorD and XDA for the rooted version...

Hope this little review clears up any doubts you might still have... If you have questions, fire them up this way

@caff111: I used mybackup and SE Backup and restore app, I lost my progress in Angry Birds and Yoo Ninja though

EDIT: I just ran quadrant, neocore and linpack...here are my results:

Quadrant: 939 (yesterday, my best run was 1040)

Neocore: 26.2 FPS

Linpack: 36.753

I thought Sony Ericsson Backup and Restore app is no longer there in 2.3, where did u download it from?

Posted by Lightspeed_x
@caff111: From XDA, i can mail you the app if you want...

Posted by aLaN
SE back up and restore does worked for me, I was able to restore sms, call log, market apps.
For angry birds there are back ups available in Market.

X10. UK Generic Android 2.33 is out now will be Updating very soon, See you all on the Other side:-)

I´ve been playing around with Wolfbreak´s 2.3 (XDA). However I´m used to his 2.2 Cyanogenmod (v009) with a custom kernel. It´s smoother and faster and I still prefer it over 2.3 prerooted. More options and settings that I like. In 2.3 I miss the 50fps uncapped frames (it´ll do 34 max. uncapped, thanks SE). Quadrant scores are around 1400 for 2.2, around 1250 for 2.3. So I´m gonna wait for Wolfbreak´s Cyanogenmod before I permanently update to 2.3.

ah.. i'm so jealous. i hope the american version comes out this week! I never even got the dual touch update... *sigh*

I believe that has been mentioned several times by SE. Nevertheless, perhaps this can be of any help for you.

I managed to put it on ..
All I can say is it will take a while to get used
To the new layout but ive noticed its quicker on the internet etc.

Like the shut of thing if u leave it tho
All icons have changed etc not bad

I think I prefered the menu layout tho on 2.1
FLicking thru side to side is horrible to find apps :-S

How's the overall performance of UI speed? better or the same? also one of the most important feature that I've been waiting for is Wifi Tether, anybody can review that?

EDIT: can we now install apps on SD?

Hobbs any luck with getting it stable for south africa yet?
Mine isnt rooted so dont wanna root for no reason

Changed my firmware from globak generic to generic uk last night to get gb. Must say the phone works very well. Less lag and more fluid. Even the little touches to the battery icon and fonts are a welcome improvement. I was suprised to find timescape still present as I thought it couldnt be used with gb except as a standalone app.
The keyboard has been improved too.

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Not sure if it's been said but Global Generic is now available. I'm currently installing.
