Would avoid BlackBerry, Hobbs, after having enjoyed the power and multimedia capabilities of iOS and Android you will be SO BORED with BB, WP7 would be the next best alternative, im not a fan but it is interesting and worth keeping an eye on, its appstore is growing fast, its now 25000 aqs strong and with Nokia joining it should grow even quicker.

Nokia E90 omg how old is that
Btw not long now happy its coming but
Not thrilled at how complicated it maybe

Seen what those new Experias are like haha

Posted by moogoo
how is it more complicated? hmmmm i'm using the arc's launcher right now and i think it's pretty simple.

Posted by Hobbs
Miss UK I know, everytime I go to a website or blog to read something up about it,I look at the date and its like 2007/08.Ancient in mobile terms. My X10 is flashed and waiting patiently in the cupboard for the update. Will definitely switch when available.Dont get me wrong.I still love the X10.Just not with stock 2.1 or a custom rom.

Tsepz I most probably would get bored of a Blackberry very quickly.A Nokia Win7 phone would be something new and refreshing.

Ppl,
I have a friend who has a branded X10 bought from UK. Is it possible to unlock the phone? its currently on Donut.
What needs to be done to unlock the sim of the phone and update to eclair? Please help.

Posted by Miss UK
Hobbs all I can say I bow down to you cos I couldnt put up with using that now
it litrally killed me using a Nokia 5300 when my X10i went Skinny dipping in the kitchen sink lol

Those Oldie nokias should be framed now to admire or used as alarm clocks haha
I found a Nokia 8210 lol its exactley what i do with it but its a sexy phone that one

Posted by tranced
It can't be unlocked for free. But you can do an update for free using SEUS.

Actually, he is unable to use it as a phone as of now because of the SIM lock. He got it from UK and is now in Dubai. Isn't there any possble way to unlock it? Is Debranding the same as SIM unlock?

Thanks,
emzee

Posted by Rookwise
Debranding and sim unlocking are two different things.
One lets you change the software to a different version/network operators customization or how the manufacturer intended (debranding)
The other allows the user to insert any networks sim card no matter what software is installed on the phone (sim lock/unlock).

Debranding can be done using paid and free versions of software (eg davinci, x10 flashtool) but sim unlocking can only be done via payment as there are no free ways to do it yet.
The x10's bootloader has recently been cracked which should mean that a free way to sim unlock your phone might be available within the next 6+ months.

There is at the moment. No other way of doing what you are asking apart from what has already been suggested here to you by myself and other members.

Posted by emzee_ali
So that means you have to pay to SIM Unlock a phone. Anybody know any online sim unlocking service website?

Thanks,
emzee

Forgot what made me love this X10.It was the Froyo 2.2.1 Free X10 Rom by Zhidzhu.(? Can never remember how to spell that buggers name).
So its out the cupboard and been enjoyed again.

@MissUK Funnily enough for the last 2 years the Nokia E90 has only been an alarm clock.(Its the most expensive alarm clock Ive ever owned) What makes me use it every now and again is guilt. It wasnt the cheapest of phones when I bought it and you cant sell it now and get anything close to what you spent buying the bugger. So selling it is not an option. Its such a beautifully crafted phone with a big inner screen but technology wise you are right. It is ancient. Will keep it and it should come in handy when Im old and bored of all the bells and whistles on a phone and just want a phone-phone.Make call, receive calls, text, email and a bit of doccy writing.
Almost Gingerbread time or are we going to be disappointed with a September release lol

Unlocking x10 is instant now. Go to nextgen server, buy a credit, get the instructions and unlock immeditely. I unlocked an x10 which has zero unlock counter.. Costed me 25 pounds.. The customer support was excellent...

Yeah I hope so, but I am not gonna update till the root access

Posted by goldenface
Don't know if it's been posted before but Ginge is coming this week.

http://www.xperiax10.net/2011[....]d-2-3-update-coming-this-week/

Posted by Bonovox
Hurray at last!!

Posted by goldenface
Indeed! It's been a long and winding road but it's finally here. It should fly with ginge and it's also been confirmed that it will also keep the non-stock cam UI which is great.

Posted by caff111
will this update wipe out all user data and apps ?

Posted by Rookwise
Yes it will wipe all apps and user data. The stock backup and restore app wont be available either so it would be advised to find one off the android market before you do the update. This way everything can be backed up to the memory card and after updating all you should need to do is redownload the backup app and then use it to restore data, settings etc off the memory card.

Posted by Bonovox
Yeah I was annoyed why they never put the back up app on the Neo or Arc aswell

Posted by moogoo
so will this available for generic models as well? (i.e., non-operator branded) if so, where can i get my hands on a north american one so i can update it myself

Posted by Platia1
It's meant to be only for Generic handsets

Looking forward to it, hopefully Australia gets it relatively quickly

Posted by moogoo

Oh, boy!

The announcement was 'premature'.

It would be funny if X10 owners weren't waiting so long for this update.

Posted by Ravager
Hopefully it's soon here. I'm just happy they updated it at all

btw, if someone in the US want a spotify invite (able to use it for free on your computer) I got some laying around so just send me a pm with your email.
Maybe a Google+ invite in return would be nice

And we wait patiently.Im just grateful that we are getting Gingerbread. Now the second year of my contract isnt looking so bleak. With an official stock Gingerbread and maybe some tweaking from XDA this phone should take me into 2012 a pretty happy chappy.

Anybody got it working yet?

Posted by sype
Just to remind everyone that The backup and restore app wont be there after the new update. and wont install if you find it and try and install it. I have lost everything and feel shafted by sony ericsson. this is the sort of thing that is likely to drive me to apple.

Posted by Ravager
Nothing on nordic generic yet...

Posted by woz2010

Not sure which generic I had flashed, possibly German (from the language that appeared on reboot) but I now have 2.3.3 !!

And its gooooooood....

So far anyway.
