Agree with Bono, the x10 is still the nicest looking droid from SE

No way. In the flesh the Arc is way more stunning to hold, to look at and to use than the X10, I was pleasantly surprised when I had the chance to play with a silver one earlier today

Are they planning on removing Mediascape in the update I wonder?

Yes and so will the camera UI, which will be Android stock UI.

http://blogs.sonyericsson.com/products/page/2/

Will any functionality from the previous software version disappear by doing this upgrade?

Yes – the work is still ongoing so details will be communicated closer to launch but these are the current expected limitations:
•The current plan is that the XperiaTM X10 will get the Android standard Camera user interface and therefore features like e.g. face recognition, smile shutter etc will be lost.
•Moxier is replaced by the gingerbread native EAS functionality.
•Mediascape is being replaced by the media experience widgets and music player included in our new 2011 products.
•DRM keys for protected content on your phone will be lost in the upgrade process.
•The Sony Ericsson Backup and Restore client is not supported in the Gingerbread version and will therefore be lost.
•Support for bi-directional languages will be reduced compared to the latest version of the 2.1 version of the XperiaTM X10.

As a very proud owner of a silver arc and white X10 I have to say it is very close to call on which is the bes looking, but arc takes it. Before arc came into my life the X10 was perfect but arc really makes X10 look a little tubby and small even though their fontprint is of similar size.

It's like trading your 25 year old girlfriend (who's starting to look at slowing down and you need to use your head to keep her working well) for her hotter, younger just-turned-17 sister (who has more legs in her and who's only want is for you to be fast with your fingers and take photos.. in low light).

So does this mean the flash will be accessible in the camera main menu rather than having to delve into the sub menu??
[ This Message was edited by: laffen on 2011-04-28 01:02 ]

@Bono
AFAIK the main menu would display the most frequent settings used, therefore may not have to dig into sub menus to find your most used functions ie. flash, etc

Posted by Bonovox
Well, that would improve things. Sounds like the x10 will be amazing after this GB update!! Will it also have the same menus as the Arc?? What I mean by that is when your in the main menu in the Arc you can still see your wallpaper behind the menu icons?? On the x10 it's just dark blue background.

Posted by Ricky D
I would guess the X10 update will look and feel almost exactly the same as arc's. The main reason X10 didn't get 2.3 before was because the old mediascape/timescape was a ballache and they were dropping them. Now they have defined the new mediascape/timescape alternatives the upgrade will be possible and there is no reason why they wouldn't keep the experience the same as the new phones, much in the same way competitors like HTC update older models to the newest version of sense with newest android where possible. It's plain to see SE are really trying hard to fix these kind of shortcomings that they've had in the past.

Search the xda forum, download and install the arc home for your x10

@RickyD .. just turned 17 old sister huh? heh.... here in the states that's still jail bate

Posted by Lightspeed_x
Hi, I posted this in the x10 picture thread, but maybe I can get a reply here faster:
I was wondering if any of you are using the stock camera mod from xda. It is already on version 10, so it should be stable, however, I'd like to know your impressions on it.

That's what I did and the Arc Launcher rocks!! It's a dramatic improvement over the standard X10 layout! It doesn't appear quite as fast and smooth as it does on the Arc, but it transforms the X10. The difference now between the Arc and the X10 has been greatly reduced, with only the X10's poor earpiece volume being my only disappointment.

Can someone confirm that after the latest official update from se, it is not possible to charge the x10 while it is off?

Posted by Tsepz_GP
Yes, i realised it before flashing a custom ROM back in, they had fixed that in the previous update but seem to have brought it back by mistake

Posted by Big_D
I saw some pictures of the Xperia Arc and it have the same blue background, which I like and the Arc Home Launcher. It also have a music widget and a Photo and Videos scroll widget. I installed the Launcher and Photo/Videos widgets on my x10 and it's been amazing.
Would the 2.3 android update for x10 have these as well? if not, can I install it on there?
btw, since Arc is 2.3, it should be the same rite?

did anyone did a comparsion between Arc and x10? I just wanna know, the phone looks nice, but I still like my x10, but it would be nice for my sister who's looking for an android phone. Arc seems to be well like be critics as well.

I think the X10 2.3 update will be an exact copy of arc's software, except where the hardware is different e.g. the camera might not be as responsive, the overall performance won't be as slick and there will be the same limitations on the dual-touch that the X10 has now (basically DT will be for pinch zoom only and enabled in all compatible apps).

arc is a fantastic phone. I'm not at all disappointed with it. Compared to the X10 speed is tremendous (even compared to some of the very fast custom X10 ROMs), it just responds the moment you touch it. The camera is noisier from what I can tell but I've not looked closely into fine tuning the settings to how I like it. The camera is very fast too. X10 is a great phone still and my only regret about buying arc is that my X10 is now gathering dust. I think my X10 will go to my little sis in July when she comes visit if I can't shift it by then.

Try out Pocket Blonde its in Market, and seems to do what you want, i havent tried it yet but looks good, also get Sanity, those two together seem like a good combo.

Thanks a lot. It is definitely what I was looking for but I didn't like the application. It's got too much of animations and stuff. If they would have kept it simple, it would have been far more better. Anyway, thanks a lot.
Appreciate

I'm sure Arc must be an amazing phone when it comes to UI and design. Infact I was thinking to buy one but not having front facing camera has put me behind. The only SE phones currently I like is Play and Arc. While play has 5.5mp and am not really a gamer but I know if I buy Play, I will definitely start playing in my office lol (which is good ).

I hope the Arc successor just blows my mind

Hey guys I've noticed something weird when playing recorded videos using Mediascape.

Usually at the start or mid-point of the playing the video, it would lag and freeze (but the duration still continues) then after a few seconds would again but this time it will be out of sync.

I'm using the the stock 2.1 Generic 435 build. Didn't seem to have this problem before I did the dual touch update nor in 1.6... Anyone got thoughts on this?

is it possible to customize the x10 like p1

Posted by mode
P1 the phone?? Dude, UIQ3 has got nothing, nothing on Android

Posted by tranced
@mode: he's asking whether it could be modded like the old days of uiq or not.

@echo.shane: of course there are customizations for the X10. But what kind of are you looking for?

Posted by moogoo
so i finally replaced the touch module for my x10 since i cracked my original.

everything went well for the most part, but i have a bit of space at the bottom where the touch module is coming off the front housing. It's strange, cause it wasn't like this when i originally attached it. everything seems to be working fine except for that. I'm contemplating on whether I should just open it back up and try to reattach it better or what but the whole process was stressful as it is, so I was thinking I might wait a bit...

Funny how the phone never feels quite the same after you've taken it apart. Somehow it feels a little off.

Gonna say not really true as I have been using task killer application from day one since I have got the phone (10 months ago) with no problems at all.

Posted by Rookwise
It has been mentioned quite often now that from Android 2.0 onwards theres no need for a task killer application as the phone already has one in the settings. Its also been mentioned that the Android system manages its memory and kills tasks as and when it needs to which actually makes it good to use up phone memory cos the system will free up needed space itself.
You will also find that with 3rd party task killers you will be killing parts of the android system which will restart straight away. This will also cause a drain on the battery.

Apps that show adverts can consume battery and slow the phone down even when not in use as the app is constantly connected to the internet downloading the adverts.
As also previously mentioned. A good fix is to download adfree android from the Android Market. You will need superuser access to use it though.

It can't be very good though... my X10 slows right down as soon as the free memory goes below 60mb. I still have a task killer and I still find it very useful. Cause a laggy X10 is painful to use.

Posted by Tsepz_GP
Exactly Rookwise!
I had been using System Panel as a taskmanager up until 2.1, a few weeks after updating i found it pointless to get a taskmanager and NOW im running Froyo and have absolutely NO NEED for a taskman, Android is just brilliant at handling tasks, i never worry about background tasks or rebooting unless im switching sims, and it will get better with the Gingerbread update

So my advice: dont bother with a taskman.

Android Honeycomb SDK ported to Xperia X10 http://bit.ly/k3iMMP

Posted by moogoo
can't wait for the upgrade. i installed some new apps today and got the LOW PHONE MEMORY warning... *sigh*. Looking forward to the apps installed on SD feature.

Posted by Rookwise
Looking forward to the update and also to checking the Honeycomb rom once its in final stage. Its only Alpha version last time I read with just a few things working but its certainly a start.

I'm actually hoping Google will bring Android out for the home computer/laptop at some point as well.

i'll just leave those then incase it does damage the phone

Does superclick or something like that works?

Go to XDA and download SuperOneClick 1.5.I used it when I had the 2.1.A.0.435 firmware.Pretty easy to use.
Now I just use Flashtool. It has a rooting option as well.Last one I used was v.0.26.

I know. That's the reason I want to root my x10. Thanks buddy

Posted by Indiandawg
1. ROOT ACCESS
To gain root acces it`s quite easy. Just have to do this:

1. On your phone check "debbuging mode" on Setting > Applications > Development
2. Plug you USB cable
3. Open your flashtool and click on Root box
4. Wait a few seconds and your phone will rebbot
5. Voilá

==

where is the root box?
i don't see any file or anything as root. i do see a folder named root. do i have to copy and paste that? sorry, more details would help me better. thanks

==

edit: done. what an @$$ i am, didnt click the x10flashtool. its done. thanks once again. now i can tether and use 3g on ipad

yes, as it's a feature part of gingerbread 2.3

I know this has been mentioned before, but I can't find the info I am after.

How do I remove the SIM (Network) lock from my X10i ?

I have used Davinci before but they don't have an option for this phone.

Anyone help ?

Posted by Oogamous
Cant wait to feast on some official gingerbread on my X10. Eclair is sweet, but not as filling a meal as gingerbread can be!

Posted by goldenface
I used davinci to unlock mine. You can send it away to be unlocked too.

Gingerbread should be with the X10 soon making it nice and zippy.

Posted by woz2010

I have done the firmware (got rid of Orange) with Davinci but want to be able to put in any SIM Card ?
