Sorry to hear/read that Skibbe, im getting excellent batt life with the ROM im using. Im the same as Hobbs when it comes to buying another SE, i doubt my next upgrade will be an SE, my next Android will probably be a Samsung, Galaxy-S II or whatever follows after it with a 2nd gen dual-core CPU, i would have said HTC but they still suck at camera, battery, RF, and design. As much as im loving my modded X10 it made me realise how much SE ruined a device that had the potential to be the best amongst competition, if they had kept it up to date it would have destroyed the Desire, Milestone, Galaxy-S etc...as the most balanced out of them all, but they themselves f*#ked up.

The only thing appealing to me about the Arc is the camera nothing else, everything else is worst than my HTC.

Hardly worth the price tag on that piece of plastic, absolute arse holes for stopping support on the X10 which was their flagship device and not that I am in any contracts but a lot of people are in 24 month contracts with no further support which I think is very bad, wouldn't expect nothing more with the Arc.

@Toney_Ericsson i see your point, i am on a 24month contract too. my first time and i have more than a year left. not my smartest move... but non the less it was my only chance to get the x10. when will i ever learn

At least there's xda developers so will be able to have an identical UI to the Arc with the X10. Plus there's plenty of DNLA apps about so can have the same functionality as streaming to tv with the X10.

I honestly don't think the Arc is worth bothering with from the X10 with this in mind as its hardly an improvement.

DLNA needs a tv that suports dlna? the arc just needs a hdmi connection? i have no dlna and none of my friends as far as i know.

Well its going to better than your HTC Desire HD I'm certain of that. Nothing against HTC personally as I currently own a HTC Desire myself.

I have noticed that many of your comments regarding the Arc have been of a negative nature. At least wait for it to be released and see what the feedback is like before heavily criticising this phone before its release.

Its going to be better than my HTC Desire HD is it? In what way? Camera?? as thats all the Arc has going for it.

Oh yes sir I'm an idiot moron thats going to ditch a better built DHD that has the identical processor more RAM for a plastic Arc yep yep yep I can't wait for the Arc it's soooooooo much better your a grade A f-ing fool!

Posted by dibdin
Oops...think I have touched a nerve there. It's not all about build quality as you seem to think that makes the HD stand out as a better phone compared to the Arc.

At the end of the day I couldn't give a monkeys toss what you think about the Arc.

Can get a DNLA adaptor if its an older tv without DNLA, I've got a Sony Bravia NX series tv for a year now works very well streaming media without any cables onto the big screen thats with the X10 (with DNLA app), DHD and any other DNLA enabled device.

By the way DNLA is just awesome streaming HD movies to your tv from home networked hard drive or pc.

Toney What benchmark scores do you get on your Desire HD?

Posted by se_dude
@the original f-ing fool above me- It has a way better camera, better screen, Android 2.3,an unlimited music service in Qriocity, HDMI out and loooks waaayyyy better. That should be enough. Of course, not for the deluded as you are.

Posted by moogoo
did i stumble into the arc thread? i had to double check... :/

still waiting for my update. every time i check pc companion it says i'm up to date. i'm in the US on AT&T but imported my x10 from rogers (unlocked and debranded).

anybody else in the same situation and got their update? i'm tempted to just root it and slap on a custom rom, but i think i'll wait awhile...

Posted by Hobbs
SEDude Hope that wasnt directed at me.If it was am I missing something???????
All I asked was what does he benchmark.Curious thats all how that HD runs.
I dont give a shit about the petty brand war crap
you guys go on about. Its unnecessary.Just enjoy the phone you
have and let others enjoy theirs.

I'm using Arc launcher for my X10 and I'm quite impressed with the speed. Surprise how the launcher that is not optimize for X10 can work well. Even the multi-touch on the home screen is quite smooth.

This makes me want Arc even more.

Which version of the arc launcher you´ve installed?

Version? Is there more than one?

Posted by SKIBBE
@fjcarlsson

was asking myself the same question, i have the one that is preinstalled in Wolfbreak's rom.

LOL @ the Queero subscription service, another Sony disaster waiting to happen, sounds like its for faggots too. Everyone else uses itunes and it can be used on any Android device using TuneSync on a network, you can have what you want already playing music movies, podcasts the lot.

HDMI isn't beneficial over DNLA, are you that visually impaired that you must use a tv screen to see 4" text or is the tv for streaming media which DNLA does without cables.

Andriod 2.3 is expected just the same as on all current devices, HTC devices are getting the 2.3 update even the old Desire which was out longer than the X10 and the X10 has lost support just because SE are so waaay better what a load of shit.

Arc camera photos are not looking overly convincing from the X10 photos, the X10 takes just as good photos in my opinion.

That leaves the design, if thin cheaply made plastic crap floats your boat as oppose to Aluminium for a flagship device then you really are a twat.

As for DHD benchmarks, they are variable as there are so many performance enhancing ROMs i.e to overclock the processor, improve battery as well as all the custom kernels/radios etc.

Back to the X10 I have put the Arc launcher on my X10 also, not as speedy as my DHD but the X10 is better with it and the gallery scrolling wheel as well I have and of course its the exact same as whats on the Arc. You can see there wasn't anything stopping SE from putting it in an update for the X10.

@Toney_Ericsson

okey but i have played 720p mkv's in rockplayer/similiar, they lag so no use for dlna on my x10

Should be fine if its an N-series router and a decent internet connection. My home network is N-series WiFi with 50mb direct broadband with a good stable connection over WiFi, absolutely no lag. Easy way to see whats going on is play the bbc iplayer if you get the same and stutters then its obviously the connection.

Has anybody got the 2.1.1.A.0.16 FW yet?

I heard it's fast and I was wondering if the camera is any faster than the previous.

I meant the x10i has to little cpu power to play my mkv files without lag/jitter/image/sound lag

Dude, that sucks. Have you applied the workaround for the 'unnofficial' pinch-zoom add-on?

Posted by moogoo
nope. i wasn't expecting to wait this long. i check both pc companion and update service and both tell me my phone is up to date. it's frustrating.... not that i need the multi-touch, but i'd still like it. makes me want to root the bastid!

Have you tired repairing? Some have got the update that way.

Posted by Ricky D
@moogoo you have an X10a right? You should maybe try rooting and add in the pinch zoom or change your FW region to the global region. It won't effect your market region (that is dictated by the sim card), it only take a few minutes, 99% risk-free (barring doing something silly you can't go wrong), X10a FW and X10i FW is interchangeable (if you just want pinch-zoom add-on then you don't need to think about X10i FW at all) and you won't lose any functionality (in fact you will gain functionality and speed).

If you want a few tips or laymen step by step instructions from a serial flasher I'm here.

Yes, tested with a global generic X10i in germany. No news

@Toney - yea i have tried repairing with no luck.

@Ricky - i may go that route in the next week or two... i'll be sure to bug you if i do: )

OMG BREAKING NEWS! Xperia X10 to receive Android Gingerbread by Q3 2011!

I have been working with this blog for almost 1 ½ years. After lots of interaction and discussion, by far the most intense discussions lately were around XperiaTM X10 Android upgrades. We earlier stated that we did not have plans for further upgrade of the XperiaTM X10 beyond Android 2.1 Éclair, which was correct at the time.

However, I am happy to inform you that this has changed. We plan to bring an upgrade to Android Gingerbread for the XperiaTM X10 to generic trade kits end Q2 / early Q3 this year. We have heard your requests all along but until today have not been able to confirm this. The great work on our 2011 products XperiaTM PLAY, XperiaTM arc and XperiaTM neo actually has enabled us to start the work in a special project bringing Gingerbread to the XperiaTM X10.

My Faith in humanity has just been rekindled. Thank you

Yeah SE's still in the place.

Posted by roanmy
Yes, yes, yes, yes, YEEEES!!! =D

If I still have the phone at the end of Q2, if not: good for those that do. Excellent news regardless!

Posted by Haribolman
Now we get the best of both worlds...we've got a better looking phone than the Arc running the same software!! I'm totally stoked!

Posted by Toney_Ericsson
Thought there was no reason why they couldn't update to Gingerbread after trying out the Arc Launcher etc on the X10

http://www.engadget.com/2011/[....]-summer-makes-us-rub-our-eyes/

Edit: I now feel sorry for people that buy an Arc which is literally only a 3% improvement over the X10.

Not really. I mean, the arc will have HDMI, DNLA, better display (we still don't know if the X10 will get 16mill colors), Bravia engine etc. Though I agree, not sure if I'm gonna bother getting the Arc now, save that money for later!

Posted by justus333
Actually makes me think too! What are the advantages of the Arc over the X10? Camera hardly improves, a bit faster, HDMI.....

X10 should be a bargain now, hmmm......

Posted by Toney_Ericsson
I've had DNLA on my X10 for ages, get an app theres plenty of them.

Posted by fjcarlsson
Came this close ordering an arc but am very chuffed this handset isn't completely written off yet. What does it mean when SE says the camera will be stock android? Is that a very basic version?

Posted by Bonovox
The x10 has come a long way since 1.6 and it seems to have 9 lives. Good job they skipped 2.2 though. Who knows what is next?? An x10 with Android 4??

It means you will got the default Android camera UI i.e. the one Google has written. Not sure how capable that UI is (but I haven't read much good about it), but settings like face recognition and smile shutter will be gone.

It's the same with Xperia Play. It's a pretty good UI though. Much faster than what's on the X10 right now for certain.

Wonder if the flash will get auto-setting

Posted by SKIBBE
I have no flash settingsd what so ever in the stock android cam (wolfbreaks rom) no SE special settings.
