Anybody encounter sms problem?? Mine just updated and I can send out sms but could not receive. My friend called me to inform me. Then I swapped my sim card to another phone all my replies came in...

Cant find the music mod app in the android market. Has it been removed or its name changed ?

Posted by Ricky D
@Rookwise Maybe I didn't get it from the market... I thought I did but now you've made me think otherwise. Try downloading it from here. It's the author's blog. There's the option for either downloading the apk (copy with a root explorer and change up the permissions) or flash with xRecovery.

Does anyone know if the MT update will leave my data intact or will it be like a clean FW install?

Posted by Rookwise
New update is now available for French X10i's. Just updated my White X10. Still nothing for UK models. My Black X10i is still on the first 2.1 update.

@Rockhell. You will have the option to update and keep all data or reset and update.

Posted by OffLineR
I have the Nordic version but still don't have the update

Posted by moogoo
if you all in europe don't have it yet, looks like i won't get it til next month or later! :/

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Downloading mine now. But I'm thinking, how easy is it to put 2.2 on? What will I lose vs. what will I gain?

Posted by Hobbs
This is my take on things.Do it,and if you dont like it,revert back to SE Eclair 2.1.Thats how I went about it.Was skeptical about a Beta Rom but I liked it so much I'm still using it.To lazy now to look for the direct link but if you go to the South African Mobile Discussion,Tsepz gave me a link 'FreeX10 Beta 3 installation for Dummies.' Pretty simple to follow. Its a post in the last three pages of that thread.

Anyone know when UK versions will be getting this Update?

Overall, is it an improvement or not ?? ? ?

Posted by Ricky D
@woz2010 the official UXP update from SE is pretty big actually. There are one or two UI improvements that have been highlighted here already e.g.landscape mode in mediascape etc but the big thing it adds is dual-touch/pinch-zoom in the web browser, maps and 3rd party apps etc. If you're not interested in rooting your device and flashing it to the global generic FW (or others that are already out) then you kind of have to wait till the FW gets approved by the appropriate people before you get the update.

@Muhammad-Oli if you're already rooted and have xrecovery it's very easy to install 2.2 or 2.3 and very easy to come back to your handset exactly the way it is now if you don't like it. xRecovery backup will basically take a complete image of your phone how it is, all data, widget placements, settings, apps, everything and store that image on your sd card for if and when you want to return to that state.

After moving to 2.2/2.3 you may lose a little functionality, as far as I know none of the custom ROMs on xda have the camcorder working, not all the ROMs out there have the wifi tethering working, a few people have had some problems with market force closing and there are other stability issues. The customs ROMs aren't as stable as the SE firmwares, some people have no problems, some people have enough to not want to keep it.

You will gain things like Flash 10.1 in the browser, none of the SE added bloatware (Mediascape, Timescape, Moxier et al), a faster and smoother experience in most cases and a few random FCs and reboots if you're unlucky.

Just remember to backup your current system in xRecovery before you flash in the new FW and you'll be 99% risk free as you can always come back. The 1% being the odds that a file gets in some way corrupted and bricks your phone beyond repair.

Thanks for the information guys. I'm still considering, but I'll probably end up doing it as soon as I'm bored one evening!

Just installed the latest official 2.1 update and it's A LOT faster. I went with a full erase and it has made things so much snappier in all aspects. Couple of new (and no doubt useless apps) but at least some of the Moxier ones have disappeared. Looks like a new calendar app and a few other nice improvements too. Nice.

Ok, thanks for the reply Ricky D. I have just had a look at Davinci to see what the options are for a generic SE X10i firmware so I can get the update and I have no idea which one to select ??

Help ??

I have currently (I think) Orange firmware.

From what I hear DaVinci is bricking X10s and there are certainly ways you can get the new FW without having to pay anyone anything.
To do so:

To do so:

  • go to this link
  • download the generic global FW
  • download Flash Tool 0.2.6
  • install the flash tool
  • unpack the ftf file (from the global generic firmware) to the folder named 'firmwares' in the Flash Tool folder
  • run X10FlashTool.exe
  • click flash
  • on the left should be FW version 2.1.A.435, on the right should be the contents of the firmware, click OK
  • follow the on-screen instructions
  • reboot and enjoy

thanks Ricky, just flashed my x10 with FW version 2.1.A.435. Is this the latest released version SE is talking about? Multi touch is working and i have the new mediascape.

thanks.

-cons (as far as i noticed)
you will lose the camcorder (and SE's camera UI) stock froyo is faster but less options ( i am running beta3 of FreeX10)
automatic brightness does not work (drains your battery twice the speed as with SEs stock rom
HW buttons no lights? (i don't care but some ppl may do )
I have issues with BT dropping sound and will have to reconnect if i multitask during soundplayback

-gains (as far as i think)
flash
access to 2.2 apps/games.
UI speed
The feeling of runing 2.2 with a custom rom

i bet there is more (but things that i dont use/need)

it's still beta so i guess more cons than gains at this moment.

I have to extend my thanks to Ricky D as well. I was just about to use Davinci team to flash generic fw

As the MT update, I have had a good play with MT and It works great. I have not had a proper look at Mediascape but it looks nice. I feel the phone to be nice and smooth were mine has been a bit laggy. All in all a good update for me

And I have just noticed this is my 100th post

Has anyone noticed any improved about the battery life with the new FW?

I see my battery life gone worse with the new update with the same usage.........why?

Posted by Rookwise
Also thanks to Ricky D.
After seeing your post I decided to give the x10flashtool a try. Have now flashed my black uk x10 to the recent global generic firmware, root, remove moxier etc and optimize (JIT ?) it.

Couldnt believe how easy that was. Gonna have a go at flashing my white French x10 to global generic later on.

What else can I do now using flashtool ? Dont want to use a custom 2.2/2.3 yet until a fully working one becomes available.

Again thanks Ricky for pointing others in the right direction B-)

I had battery issues with the latest firmware too. For me it was a sleep issue, the phone appeared to stop going to sleep after a while.
I noticed several times my battery % going down 2% or more per hour while doing nothing and checking battery usage I noticed high amounts of time spent not sleeping.
I reverted back to the 2nd newest baseband and firmwaRe and its been working perfectly , as it did before the latest update.

Posted by Ravager
I too had battery life problem but what I recommend is to, at startup, run task killer or similar app and kill all. This solved my problem.

Posted by Rookwise
Cant say ive got a problem with the battery as it seems to last the same as before. However im experiencing a probem where wifi wont reconnect after coming off sleep mode and also it seems that the old problem with wifi is also back where it would cut out when the gsm/3g signal dropped.

Thanks to Ricky D for that simple tutorial I flashed with Omnius before to UK generic totally oblivious to the fact that it is one of the slowest cda to get an update. Flashed to latest global generic and I found that it is slightly faster at everything, but I thought it's psychological since it is after all a clean sweep of the phone. But then after running quadrant benchmark and scoring 532 outperforming nexus one and desire did I realize it had actually been optimized. I rarely have any reason to give any credit to se for anything these days but this update really is to me, a testimony of their commitment. Eventhough there are issues that haven't been addressed, they responded to our call for MT among others which I think would have been virtually impossible a couple of years back so kudos, and thanks for making my device fast enough for me to stick to the official stuff

+1! Yup, totally agree. Seems that really did respond well to our requests. I'm dreaming that they'll do another update down the track that improves the speed of Timescape to the point of useability, and they'll add a useable flash option to the camera...that'd be nice!

I had the same issue with calendar, re-flash using SEUS sorted it out. It updated with the software version selected in the flash tool.

Guys, anyone experiencing unexpected shut-downs after the latest update for the x10? My phone just shuts down without pressing the power button. Very strange...

Same here...

Posted by woz2010
Hi

I had a lot of random shut downs / restarts before this upgrade but ever since, I have only had one (been running the new update now for a week).

I still get the occasional Application unexpected shutdown issue.

What I do find strange though, is the ability now to 'Multi-Touch'. I thought this was a hardware issue and not a software issue, but now I can pinch zoom in and out. Where has this come from ?

Posted by mode
@woz2010
Must've been a nice surprise for you as you weren't aware of the latest X10 software development news. Most of us knew it was coming since roughly 3 months ago and the multitouch feature is one of the most if not THE most anticipated feature for this particular update

Guys a little help here..

Seems like MWC is over for SE and there was no announcement of a midrange phone like an X8 upgrade. I realized that I should reconsider getting an X10.

Do you guys recommend X10?And Why?
All I want is an X8 with autofocus, multitouch and flash-enabled web browser. How's the multitouch in X10? Can you use it in 3rd party apps? About the browser, I think there are 3rd party browsers which have flash right?

And if you guys have any other phones in mind, I'll be very glad to hear that. I'm also leaning towards Samsung Galaxy Ace and Lg Optimus Chic.
Thanks in advance.

Shino, you won't get flash browsing and the phone won't be updated past 2.1, otherwise it should fit the bill for you. I am happy with it (would be VERY happy if I knew it would get updated to 2.3 at some point) and won't be upgrading until the 2012 batch of phones is out.

Posted by Shino03
Bialynia, thanks for the reply.
How about 3rd party browsers? They still don't have flash support? And any issues like battery or built issues like low speaker.

Does SE has any plans for upgrading X10 to 2.2 or 2.3? As far as I know, they only promised 2.1 right?

Has the new update released in India?

Posted by Ricky D
@Shino03 SE claim that their 2.1 is better than 2.2. I'm not sure myself. They've said that they won't upgrade to 2.2 and made no promise on 2.3 although there were one or two reports from Brazil that 2.3 may come later in the year, take that with a pinch of salt. 3rd paty browsers won't do flash as the 2.1 OS simply cannot handle it, none of the developers over on any other forums have managed to get flash into 2.1 and I doubt that any will. The best we can realistically hope for is perhaps a port of arc's FW to the X10 through some developer custom ROM action, but that will require you have the want, will and knowhow to personally reflash your device thereby voiding warranty etc etc.

On the other side of the coin, among it's class (inc desire, nexus one etc) I think the X10 puts up a reasonable fight. The others are on 2.2 nowadays and have flash in the browser etc but that's offset by the better cam and overall aesthetics of the X10. I have no regrets over buying the X10, best phone I've owned by a long way.

Saying all that, I will probably buy arc next month...

Posted by Shino03
@Ricky, as far as I remember, the roadmap for the updates for the xperia family was leaked. Was there a mention about upgrade to 2.3. And if there was none, did SE made it clear by announcing that X10 would not get future android updates(versions) anymore?

Also, I've read that the browser of HTC wildfire is capable of flash even though it's just 2.1

HTC desire is also expensive at 500$. My budget is just around 300-400$
Anyway, Thank you very much.

From USA with a Germany version Xperia X10i. I'd been waiting for a long while for that latest update, the one with the limited multi-touch zoom as well as the faster Mediascape/Timescape. nothing came up yet, how long am I supposed to wait, and if anyone already got the update yet, here in USA or with a Germany version?

I was having issues with the phone not going to sleep after a while and I uninstalled Anonymous Usage , Device Monitor and Sony Ericsson Sync and now it seems to work as it did before the .435 update.
Why do Sony Ericsson like to stuff around with their firmware so much?

Posted by goldenface
Can anyone confirm if they have Hanashi working on their X10? Mine comes up with an 'unable to start' error.

Checked this morning, it's finally available. USA

How do I change qwertz to qwerty again? I'm using Swype.

Posted by Indiandawg
I was using Swype but sometimes it lags so much that it's very irritating to type. For first few days it works charm but later it crashes and lags.
I use SE android keyboard and honestly I love it. But would love to know if the Swype has new version come out.

I'm sorry for offtopic : but can someone tell me please, some opinions about this phone?
It not feels too big in hand?
