You were all warned back at the beginning of 2010 and this has been one of 's failings for some while - see Satio, X1, X2 .......... However with the new devices and basically conceding their implementation of overlay skin was adding little other than huge delay and given the reality that SE no longer have the programming manpower to keep up it looks like the new devices are going to come much more "out of the box" Android with some SE side Apps (time/mediascape) which is a good thing as SE were continually falling behind on this. It does mean though that they have effectively conceded all software development for their own devices and are now just a box shifter at Google's behest; the downward spiral that started 3+ years ago is complete sadly.

The new Arc looks gorgeous tho.

Smear campaign.Flood Twitter,Facebook, blogs, forums ect with Sony Ericsson disinformation and bad press.Make it so whenever someone Googles Sony Ericsson, the top Google hits are just negative results to the brand..Put all their new range of smartphones through the ringer before they are even released.

Only jokes on the above. It aint in my nature and Im partly to blame for buying Sony Ericssons first Android handset.A tester phone.Im so over caring about all these new phones and cellphone technology in general. We are all just been shafted in some way or other and making them ARSEHOLES rich.

Its time to do a Bono and stop, take a deep breath and regress.

Mmm,my boss has offfered me her upgrade if I want to take it.What should I get (Bonovox-that HTC Desire HD is looking so good right now)

No,I will just keep this X10 and just hope that by some divine miracle the bootloader is cracked and we are able to do a 2.2 Custom ROM.

Hard luck guys

Big disappointment of not having 2.2 on X10. I know but still I'm really disappointed

You're right man and I was naive all the time.
The same shame is with the fact they wasted many devices this way and potential market success.
X2 could easily steal from HD2 popularity.....
Probably their r&d is just pathetically small but it is probably also their strategy.

Sony Ericsson: no OS updates for Xperia X10 beyond Android 2.1, it's better than 2.2 anyway

SonyEricssonUK Sony Ericsson UK

@KamSamji We believe the version of Android 2.1 which we have implemented on the X10 is suitable for the hardware of these particular models

We believe the features included in the Android 2.1 phone are on par with, and in many cases better than, a vanilla installation of 2.2 #X10

I believe the shit coming out of your mouths at the moment isnt welcome at this present moment in time.Arseholes!

If only the little genius known as George Hotz could have a crack at cracking this bootloader.Im sure he'd be able to nail it.

I think X10's design is better than Arc's.

I'm going to wait till Feb 13. Let's see what else has got!

I want
1Ghz+ Qualcomm MSM8260 or MSM8660.
Dual Core
4G
Front Facing Camera

I really don't give a S**** about reality or retina display, bravia engine or whatever

I want performance and I know SE you can do this. You have been into smartphone world since a very long time. This should not be hard for you!

Good Luck

I thought they decided they weren't going to update to Froyo ages ago. I'm sure I read that the effort wasn't worth the actual benefits, so it would be upgrading just for very little gain.

Sealover will be back soon!

On a serious note it is a shame SE aren't going to finish with 2.2. It would make sense if they updated to 2.2 and left it as that.

2.1 has made a massive update to the phone but the lag on it is crazy at times - 2.2 would have corrected this, plus we would have had flash and memory card install and wifi-hotspot function.

I suppose deep down we all know SE were going to this way, it's a blatant sign that they've finished with the X10. Our only hope is the rumoured MT update in Q1 (hopefully SE won't drop this as well) and maybe some internal updates to improve performance, but I'm not holding out for this.

It's a real shame as many others have pointed out the device has plenty of potential, but Arc is SE's new thing now so X10 owners pay the price for the painful wait for 2.1.

On a positive note Arc does look nice, the screen looks great. I just hope it's not as finger point smudgey as the X10. I'd be interested to see how good the photos are compared to the X10 - other than that they're be no real reason for me to update to it.

After ARC nobody is going to remember us

Alright. I'll be honest, I really liked Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc. It's got a very slim design and also has several features outside like HDMI/USB etc. I really liked the style, it's very innovative and the fact it's so slim.

Talking about features, it's got the latest Android version. I really don't need to say much as we all know it's got loads of features compared to X10. Also a big boost having BRAVIA Mobile Engine, Reality Display, Exmor R Mobile. I think Xperia Arc has got itself into a very good competitive market of smartphones and does stand out pretty well. Not to forget it's got good performance 1 GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 processor, Adreno 205 GPU. All in all it looks FAB!

This is one of the reasons I have been buying Sony Ericsson for years now. They are right up there but missing out on few features really gets messed up. Like Multi-touch and Android latest version on X10 was a big drawback while X10 is a beautiful phone. I own it and I proudly own it. I love X10 and I think it's one of the best phones in the market. It's got great UI experience which Sony Ericsson delivers it.

I wished it had a Front Facing Camera and 4G. All my hopes are on MWC where Sony Ericsson might launch 3 other devices.

But this is a great Smartphone. Kudos to

Indiandawg Saw pics on GSMArena of the Arc and it is another sexy offering from SE.They sure make good looking phones.
I agree about X10.Gonna swallow the bitter pill and just enjoy it to the fullest. My second contract (iphone 3G) comes up in March but I think Im going to terminate it and keep the X10 till June 2012.Even if we dont get Froyo I think I can still enjoy it.

For sure buddy! while we wait for other devices of SE, there is a new update coming soon with MT. Something to cheer about

Posted by Tsepz_GP
Sucks about the no 2.2 update i must say but a part of me still just likes this phone a lot, im still happy with it, it's such a capable device it's a shame SE dont feel that way. I like the Arc and the sad part is i think i would actualy take the SE Arc if my upgrade was this year despite SE almost ditching us X10 users , DAMN YOU SE! But in all honesty, i'll think twice before getting an SE again, that Tweet from SE UK realy pissed me off, they were so damn arrogant, their heads are so far up their own asses it's ridiculous, starting to remind me of Nokia with the N900, i think i must start looking at Samsung and Motorola more now, SE and Nokia are done.

I don't suppose anyone here has rooted 2.0.2.A.0.24 FW yet? Looking for a simple method like z4root or superoneclick

Posted by Hobbs
Unfortunitely not Ricky D.If you do find something simple other than flashing the firmware (pre-rooted),please give me a heads up.

+ 1 !

Posted by SKIBBE
@Ricky D i am still at the "1 update" since there is no rooting method yet. but eventualy if the so called MT update arrives i will have to give up root, will take to long for them to make it rootable. but the JIT thing is making my phone faster (so i belive)

Well, I´m certainly not gonna give up root just for (not really) multitouch and some minor UI improvements. I´m just gonna be patient and check some forums now and then.
Curious though, has the incoming call volume really improved with latest update? That would be a real improvement.

what do you use Root for?

Launcher EX running(uninstalled se drawer)
Set CPU
uninstalled some apps
deactivated facerape
and installed JIT

Posted by Sator1973
Most important: I just like the freedom to fool around with my phone, which in my view is just a little tablet computer running on a taste of linux.
Indeed I uninstalled and deactivated some apps (facerape ) and I think JIT really works (about +200 in quadrant).
I almost never use timescape or mediascape so I´m also considering getting rid of those. Just a bit afraid to try as I´m not exactly an expert.

Posted by SKIBBE
i removed mediascape and installed some gallery, pain in the ass, you could not browse images from messaging and such. so i still have it. its slow but just pictures and other gallerys wount apear in system apps. so it is does more damage than good, atleast when i tried it.

Working root method for newest firmware. I haven't tried it as i've flashed a pre-rooted rom onto it, but apparently the method below works.

Big thanks angryman.It works.

Posted by Sator1973
Yeah, thanks angryman. Updated, rerooted and reapplied JIT (2nd version). Quadrant score is 761 now. Great.

Posted by Ricky D
Cheers for the link @angryman. Trying it now. If I don't report back assume it's worked and I'm away playing.

i want to update an reroot too, but it's such a hasle

Posted by Ricky D
@skibbe this update doesn't wipe the phone so you don't lose anything but any apps you removed will return after the update and superoneclick that angryman has linked us into roots in just a matter of minutes.

Posted by SKIBBE
Ricky D, okey that sounds okey, but when i wiped some system apps i used some kind of script that did it for me. is there any program there i can manualy uninstal them by hand afterwards, or how have you done it? i used something called "x10 2.1 Customizer v0.99.1"

Posted by Ricky D
@skibbe I used Titanium Backup to uninstall my unnecessaries. After root with superoneclick I had to reinstall busybox then my Titanium Backup worked again. Just a couple clicks later and I was clean again.

When you update using SEUS it asks you if you want to clean install or just update and keep the old. If it doesn't then make sure you have a backup of your stuff, in fact backup anyways, but I'm sure I don't need to tell you that.

Posted by SKIBBE
Will try that later today then

Posted by >500
every time i try to ROOT the superone click keeps freezing... any ideas??? windows just says the program isnt responding...

Posted by Indiandawg
Guys I have a situation. I had rooted my phone. I had also used titanium to back up. Now I want to un root and it's happening but I don't see moixer mail which I had uninstall. I restored the back up but somehow I think I re back up so the initial back up is gone. Now what do I do to get back and un root the phone so I can update my phone. Thanks

Posted by oioldman
was going to get me one next week, but i'll not bother now.
thanks for heads up guys.

Posted by Sator1973

Installing JIT V2 on rooted X10

Files needed:
1: xRecovery Installer
2: JIT enabler V2

Make sure Busybox is installed.
Copy both files to your SD-card.
Install the first file with your file-manager app.
Run xRecovery Installer.
Choose Install xRecovery from the menu, wait 10 seconds and switch off the phone.
After 10 seconds switch the phone back on> When ¨Sony Ericsson¨ appears on the screen, press the back button 3 times> After a few seconds a menu should appear.
Scroll to ¨ install custom zip¨ with the volume keys> Press home button to select.
Select ¨JIT_Enabler_v2-zdz.zip¨ to install JIT.
Next, choose reboot phone from xRecovery menu. >finished!

I extracted this howto from here.
