Hmm,yeah these so called phones that are supposed to handle so much & with little running I still get lag.

Posted by Big_D
I'm soon to be getting Mobile internet via my Mobile operator, T-mobile USA. I'm wondering if there is a way for me to Wi-Fi tether to provide internet for my ipod touch? I haven't rooted my phone yet, is there a non-rooted version. Barnacle WiFi Tether requires Root.

If I root my phone, will there be a way to return it to normal, 2.1, if I don't like it or something is wrong?

I remember from Ricky_D, Hobbs and others telling me about rooting my phone, but I still haven't. Would someone upload the links to how to root ur xperia x10?
I would only do it if there is a way to reverse the process, back to 2.1, if I so failed the first time.

There are some easy ways of rooting your phone. Just head over XDA forums or give a look at this android section of Esato.

You can use Z4root application from market which roots your X10 in 1 click very easily and if you don't want u can unroot back ( Before using the applicaition make sure to click the usb debugging option) . i am using barnacle for WIFI Tether to connect internet for my laptop.

i search for z4root in the android market, cannot find it. only 2 result, 1) doodle master, and 2) *some korean thing*.

how do we check the delivery report in 2.1?? in 1.6 we could just long press the screen n there was an option to see the delivery report, but it isnt so in 2.1...

and after update somehow wifi isnt working...what could be the reason n what can be done about it?

@Big_D

To root your X10 2.1 you will need:
z4root - download the apk from the first post at the developer's thread on xda and transfer to your phone and install
BusyBox - should be able to get this on the market, many rooted apps require you to have this installed

Suggested other apps:
Titanium Backup - backup apps and settings (e.g. your Angry Birds progress, very important )
Barnicle Wifi Tether (or similar) - for wifi tethering

To root:
Step 1. Install z4root, open the app and press permanent root. It'll do it's thing then restart your phone.
Step 2. Install BusyBox from the market and run it. The app from the market is a BusyBox Installer so you have to go into the installer and press install to actually install Busy Box.
Step 3. (optional) run Titanium Backup and backup your apps and data
Step 4. (optional) wifi tether up your ipod, you PC and your laptop with a wifi tether rogram of your choice from the market
Voila! you should be rooted.

To un-root:
Step 1. Open z4root
Step 2. Press Un-root
Step 3. (optional) uninstall BusyBox
Finished!

I rooted my dad's X10 removed the bloatware and un-rooted it again without a trace in about 15 minutes (whilst taking a dump). Very straight forward using z4root. Permanent root option in there isn't permanent, it's always unrootable or if the worst happens you can always reflash your FW with SEUS.

Looks through this mess and you will find what you are looking for.Im not giving you a direct link because I think since you dont know much about Rooting, some reading on the subject will do you good. And the last thing I want is, I give you a link, something goes wrong and you look to me for solutions. Not cool.
It isnt that big of a deal nowadays rooting a phone. Its become a one click affair. Also if you want to unroot, that option has also become available to you.
Good luck if you do decide to do it.

Z4 Root is currently the easiest way to root your X10 on 2.1

Unfortunately, non-rooted tethering is only available on 2.2 or if you're surfing using your laptop (there's EasyTether but it requires you install a program on Windows or Mac to run.

Once rooted, using Barnacle is relatively easy. I've found, however that a certain level of inactivity causes it to hang, and you have to keep re associating the phone to activate the tether again. I did find a workaround by enabling WEP. Ideally I'd rather not enable security since I don't leave my phone on tether long enough nor do I stay in one spot long enough for it to be an issue.

So far, I've had a total of 3 devices connected to Barnacle at once... my iPad, iPod Touch for FaceTime, and my laptop.

I take it by WM you dont mean the new Windows Phone 7 OS ? , at present this is my favourite OS to use. Rather like the first iphones it is missing some core functionality at present - copy/paste, bluetooth file transfer and multitasking but it is so slick and user friendly. The hardware on my Omnia 7 is superb.....the most responsive screen ive ever used and so well built. I traded an Omnia 7 for a friend a couple of weeks back and after using that for a while i got one as my upgrade. I also own an HTC Desire and a Nokia N8 neither of which seem as fluid as WP7

Regards

Craig

thanks to everyone for helping me root my phone, especially Ricky_D. Now that it's rooted, how do I uninstall the unwanted apps? i.e. Moxier mail, sync, etc. and quadrapop

Download from Market an app called "Titanium Backup", it will do the job.

Posted by Big_D
Does Barnacle Wifi Tether, when *START*, disable the Wi-Fi on the phone itself? it does that to mine. Does wi-fi tether only works with the mobile internet? I guess so. but that's fine, I'm just confirming...
when I do get mobile internet service via my operator, it will come very handy.

Download Titanium Backup and run.Press Backup/Restore.Press on app you want to remove and press Un-install.
Yep you need mobile internet to become a Wifi hotspot with Barnicle.

@ Big_D make sure you back up your apps using Titanium Backup before you remove them, just a precaution but I wouldn't do anything without backing up first.

No luck as of yet. I need to do a bit more research about Win Server 2003 first I think. I think my issue lies there. I can't even get into seeing shared folders.

I'm having a nightmare debranding my X10.

After attempting to debrand it with davinci for the second time the phone wouldn't boot up. Instead I got a black screen with a picture of the phone on its back, a big blue arrow pointing at it with a camera icon above the arrow.

So I ran it through SEUS and it rebranded the phone back to Orange UK branding and now the camera won't work. So I've wasted £30 on debranding, ended up with a branded phone with no camera. Disaster!

Any ideas anyone?

Posted by Phoner
I suggest you try Hard Reset before running SEUS.

I use ES Explorer and use it to transfer files between my phone and PC (running windows 7) instead of connecting via USB. When I start up ES Explorer and go to LAN, I do the following:

1) Menu > New > Scan
This should bring up the IP Addresses of available devices having file shares on the network.
2) Select the device
This allows me to view all available shares for this device. Surprisingly, it shows hidden shares as well (may be a setting that I did and didn't realize). These are shown with a $. Shares without a $ can be browsed and written to (if you have permissions). You may be asked to provide a username and password and this will be your domain password (if your home PC is set up for domain authentication) or your local PC username/password (which is true for most people).

When trying to access a hidden share, it will ask you for username and password. Technically, this should permit you to view the share under the permissions granted to you by that username and password, but I haven't gotten this to work just yet. Need to try a few different methods. In the mean time, I simply share folders I want to view and have created a dedicated share folder where I can drag&drop files i want to transfer to/from my x10.

hope this helps.

Had the same problem. I flashed it to a Generic Firmware with a Flashtool.
It's much easier, just change the CDA in the build.prop, run SEUS and you'll have a Generic firmware. I changed my firmware from Nordic 2.1 to Germany 2.1 with that method.

Posted by Ricky D
@moogoo cheers I'll have another try in a bit. Got a full PC sickbay here at the minute so I'm tied up. I'm looking at this really for our sales reps (all on X10s) to be able to get into the server when they're on the road. It should be possible at least but not sure the best way round it or if it's easier to just dump on google docs the important stuff.

@goldenface change the CDA as Flori said. Easy, free and quick and SEUS will pick it up and flash you the right way. You'll need root access to get to the file then change the CDA in 3 places and you're away. The first post over there also has a pretty complete CDA list, way more than you'd need.

N.B. the image of the phone, an arrow and a camera is normal when the firmware is doing it's stuff after a full reflash, wait it out and you'll be right as rain.

@Goldenface that same thing I had after I updated to 2.1 but it goes after a minute or so. It did with me anyway I had that symbol then it went & carried on booting up

Does anyone still think that the earpiece volume will be fixed ever in an update?? I can live with it as it is not too bad but at times depending on the quality of the line in a call it can be hard to hear the other person. I remember Nokia managed to fix a similar issue in the 6300 in an update the volume was louder. So why cannot surely they know of this now?? it's the only real downer about the x10

The earpiece volume is fine, if it's not for you then you have a hardware issue, I can't listen on full volume or my eardrums hurt, I keep it 3 or 4 notches below full volume, I spend most of my days in crowded loud hallways, no issues hearing people.

With MyPhoneExplorer 1.8 you can sync with Outlook (calendar, tasks, contacts).
You have to enable USB debugging in your phone.

don't know what you mean by "new" widget... it's still the same as far as i can tell. and yes, it's still there in the 2.1 update.

@doministry to view tasks you have to get a task killer type (I use ES Task Killer) or an OS monitoring app (I use OS Monitor). I haven't killed a task in ages though and only do so when an app hangs when it shouldnt.
