Hi guys, just jumped from old P990i to new and shiny X10.

Can anyone tell me if it's possible to change properties of silent mode? What i want is, when lock screen is active i can change from silent mode to normal mode. The pain is, silent mode by default disables vibration (why? )

So whenever i change modes, i have to modify silent mode to activate vibration (in settings or by pressing + ) it's ok if i do it one time a few days, but i change it pretty often. Besides who doesn't want the phone to vibrate when putting it to silent mode?

Another thing, internet usage. This OS is extremely internet hungry... Is there a way to block internet access for certain applications? Because application that downloads ad everytime it's turned on is just pathetic. Found a widget to quickly turn on and off internet, but would still prefer to give browser unlimited internet access...

Hello everyone,
anybody know hoe to do a hard reset for the x10i without using the touch screen?
did some google search, it is done by pressing back and option and power key at start up, but this configuration is starting the phone in safe mode.
the phone is still on 1.6 and the touch screen is defected and my friend want to completely reset it before sending it for reparation.
thanks in advanced.

Posted by Ricky D
@ 20545ZR16 use your PC and SEUS to reflash the firmware, you'll only need the back button to be working.

Posted by 20545ZR16
@ Ricky D,thank you for the tip, told him to do it

Posted by moogoo
so i've had some time to play with 2.1 and i love it. it is faster than 1.6 and i love the HD recording! pretty much enjoying most every aspect of it. The things I don't like are pet peeves of mine but you can't make everyone happy.

Has anyone else noticed that face recognition doesn't recognize as many faces? I was disappointed that that data was not backed up during the backup process. I had to reassign names, which brings me to my next point. When reassigning names, I noticed that I had to scroll through a TON more names than were in my phonebook. It seems that not only were there phonebook contacts but everyone i follow on twitter (a lot) and facebook friends were added to the list as well, which made scrolling through a bit of a pain. Anyone notice this and know how to get rid of twitter/facebook contacts from this specific list?

Other than that, I noticed that swiping through pictures and categories in mediascape still has that slight delay and is not instant. I guess that's SE's implementation of it, but it would be nice to have it more instant swiping through desktops for example.

I too miss the arc slider but oh well. Someone mentioned that the phone wouldn't lock after phonecalls, but mine still does, it is a pain and i'd love to remove this if i could.

Posted by Rookwise
@moogoo
Goto contacts and find the icon to the left of the search bar (blue one with 3 plain pictures in). This takes you to the menu to set which contacts to view.

Posted by Bonovox
I get some lag sometimes but I find it happens with live wallpapers running The arc slider I miss & I don't like the way you have to answer the phone having to slide the unlock across the screen it's awkward. The HD video is a let down imo it's jerky I was filming some snow & it was jerking on play back. Apart from a few niggles it's so much better

Anyone here managed to get their X10 to access files on a window server 2003 a) through wlan and/or b) through vpn?

I read Astro can do WLAN and VPN and ES File Explorer can do WLAN but can't get either to work. I'm starting to think I've got my server not setup right..

Posted by DrKnute
@moogoo and Bonovox: the arc slider may be gone, but it still works if you do an arc slide. I do it every time

Posted by moogoo
@rookwise that only works for what's viewable when you go to phonebook contacts. it doesn't seem to effect what is displayed when assigning names in the face recognition.

@drknute great tip!

I have told that the day I installed 2.1 update.
Because I used to that move I made it couple of times and realized it was working like a charm
(It is on the page 506 )

The sad think my friends ask me to do cool unlocking move but there isn't one to show

For some reason the phone feels laggy to me with the 2.1 and the camera as well.

To be honest, I am at the point where I may sell this in January and try a Captivate or Defy.

To me the phone has wonderful hardware but the software is not very optimized for this device and I am not totally a fan of Timescape/Mediascape. I see where SE was going with it, but it needs to be much for responsive and practical.

I miss HTC Sense on the Aria.

Posted by rikken
I don`t use Mediascape `cause I find it slow and lagging and the fact that pictures that I have copied over to my mcard have no date on them is ridiculous. And a musicplayer without eq ???? Every SE phones I have had since the K700i had EQ But luckily we have androidmarket now I use Just Pictures and PowerAmp. Their much better then Mediascape

i tried Just Pictures a few months back, and i never got real fullscreen and it drowe me mad so i uninstalled it, is it better now?

Edit: just tried it again, works much better, and feels fast as a rocket compared to mediascape

I use 'Gallery Shortcut' by 'miyavi' basically re-enables the stock android gallery. Super fast and good looking.

...and I just found a really pretty battery widget 'battstatt'.

Thanx man Just what I`ve been searching for. The x10 just became much better

Finally got my replacement digitizer today! Thankfully. For awhile there, I thought maybe they took my money and ran!

Anyway, I'm planning for my x10 to bring sexy back on Sunday. My question is has anyone replaced a digitizer yet and if so, can you point me to a nice tutorial? I'm wondering if I need to disassemble the entire phone to replace it or if there's an easier way. Since the screen would be the last thing in a disassembly of the phone, I'd rather avoid having to take apart everything if there is another way to replace the digitizer.

I am aware the digitizer is simply glued on with double sided tape, a tape which I do not seem to have gotten with my package. Thoughts on things I could use?

Posted by Hobbs
Heres a Xperia X10 Disassembly Guide.(which you've most probably read already) Maybe it will help a bit.Its also called The easiest way to destroy your phone for Dummies.(and by reading through it,I aint no dummiy, but I wouldnt do this shit,my history of putting stuff back together aint very good )

By reading through it,it says
Note: The touch module appears to be heavily glued to the front cover. It may be able to be removed by heating the glue (maybe with a hairdryer) but it hasn’t been tried.
Is the Touch Module the digitizer?

A very good luck.If I find something more I'll let you know.

Is anyone else considering upgrading their X10 for the X12 when released?

I'm really liking the thinness of the X12 n the upgrades to the X10. Sure, this is prob what the X10 should have been released with and I guess you could say that its not very competitive given that other companies will have dual core n such but the X10 was without multitouch and flash and it still came out to be a really good, stable phone when eventually released. I'm hoping the X12 will be the same stability-wise cos this phone is really growing on me...but not as much as when i first saw the X10. I still remember the first time i saw the x10 n thought i have to have this phone....

Ya.. i have read this too and with my experience taking apart phones in the past, I don't think I should have a problem. THOUGH, this will be the most complicated phone I'll be taking apart. I'm not too worried though...

There's another thread on xda of a guy who replaced his digitizer (yes digitizer is touch module) and he used the blow dryer method to soften up the adhesive. My only concern is whether I can re-use the adhesive !? I think probably not, in which case i'm not sure what to use. I guess i'll try reusing the adhesive.. if it's soft enough, maybe it can be reused without any issues. I guess i'll find out Sunday. I'll report back.

Does anyone know why the photos in X10 can't be viewed in full crop resolution. And why no one complained about this is beyond me, I mean, even X10 mini has this standard feature. There's no equalizer on mediascape making it useless too which then affects timescape as music played on 3rd party apps won't be summarized there, and neither does the photos. When SE claimed Eclair's delay was due to developing timescape and mediascape extensively for better user experience, I thought it would be worth the wait. Is it now which such lousy media support and integration? How hard would it be to apply equalizer, an exercise repeated countless times before with their previous devices. Lame.

Posted by moogoo
don't know what you mean by full crop resolution, but you can view original size (by zooming) or basically "fit to screen" in mediascape. viewing pictures in media scape is "ok." it's not as efficient as it could be and the swiping action is delayed when it should be instant. Not sure why SE hasn't implemented the instant swipe when the native gallery can do it.

as far as music, equalizer should be easy for them to do, but so should playlists and other features. i agree it is lacking in the music department.

All in all, mediascape is not all that impressive as an experience although I do continue to use it to tag my photos, making looking up pictures for people a lot easier. I do wish they would allow me to tag someone in a picture even if the face recognition software doesn't pick up a face. There should be an option to add a tag and we can drop it where ever we want! Let's face it, the face recognition software is decent but it's definitely not perfect. manual tagging should definitely be an option.

Posted by Ricky D
@mode I use Large Image Viewer by Mihai Preda. Not as fast as Gallery Shortcut by miyavi which is really nice to use too, but more usable than mediascape. I think the problem with full res pics is they take longer to load up.

I gave up on the in built face tagging. I think about 1 in 10 of the photos that are tagged are correct. Disgrace of a feature if you ask me. Sounds impressive though when you have a friend with an iPhone who won't stop showing you his most recent in-phone edited video with faded transitions and all that.

Make sure your widgets are not hungry. I deleted a few data hungry widgets and my laggy problem was gone.
