Custom ROM Big D

Why is my Gmail push e-mail not working?
Any settings to be done on 2.1?

Indiandawg
Ricky D gave the solution to that problem.

Settings -> Accounts sync -> check Auto-sync & Background data

and

Settings -> Accounts sync -> your gmail account -> check Sync Gmail

should fix the gmail sync notifications.

Hope that helps

Thanks a lot

Also I wanted to ask, is the phone snappy after rooting?
I mean the 2.1 looks fast but actually naa it's not that quick! I don't know why. The launcher is not snappy and also the call dialer which sometimes takes few seconds to open.

2.1 Custom ROM now has camera and BT both working. Its almost here.Woohoo!

I'm glad 2.1 fixed the WiFi and vibrating issues.

Before my phone never vibrated for notifications if it was on silent. It has been so useful having that feature working.

And earlier this evening I saw my X10 find my home WiFi network without me having to force it to, which was great.

The phone is overall slower and I don't like the app menu which doesn't slide up anymore at all. The phone seems to average between 5 and 20 mb less free RAM during normal use than it had on 1.6.

Posted by MyP910
So far, I'm happy with the update. several days, ago the phone feel slow and sluggish. I installed system monitor to monitor the cpu usage and as expected the cpu consumption is 100% and this cause the phone to be slow. I check the running application and found out the `face recognition application' use up a lot of cpu resource. I don't know what start the apps. I kill the apps, and the phone is running blazing fast, smooth and snappy.

Not only the phone is snappy, the battery life has improved a lot. Now the battery can last more than 1day (almost 2 days) with all function turn on (live wallpaper, bluetooth, wifi, GPS, 3G, push mail). The battery drop 1% in 2 hours (during standby).

overall, I'm very happy with the phone. Its perfect.

GsmArena has published their review of 2.1 on the X10. They're pretty happy with the changes

I can summarize GSMArena's review with 1 word. Meh.

Posted by mikely_28
One thing I must say for sure: Battery last much longer after update to 2.1.
Other things that I like:

Strong GPS signal
Very good WiFi signal
It's much faster and very stable
I am very happy that I changed my Satio for X10!!!

Posted by idumbakumar
me too going to ditch my satio. got x10already. waiting for its arrival. even my mini beats satio in general functionality for me. I hope x10 will satisfy me more.

You are using ADW.Launcher. Disable the option which when you swipe up hides statusbar. It should be in options.

I think my battery lasts shorter. I experience that the screen uses more batt although I have decreased the screen light to 50%. I don't use Live Wallpaper. Overall it uses more batt when I use it. Now it barelly lasts for a day.

I also thinks it's laggy. I have disabled parts of the animations. The keyboard seems to react slowly at first and the vibration on the keyboard is very weak.
Otherwise I'm very pleased with the update.

If the battery last shorter, I think there must be some apps that cause it. As I said before, when I feel the battery last shorter (you will notice when the battery drop quickly for no reason) and the phone is laggy, I check the cpu usage with system monitor and there is one apps that highly using the cpu. The cpu should not run 100% all the time. If it is, then surely the phone will be laggy and drain the battery.

After I kill that apps, now the phone runs very smoothly, fast and fluid and the battery last longer up to 2 days with heavy usage.

Other thing that I like about the update is the way the proximity sensor work. Now the screen will go blank the moment you put the phone to your ears and the screen will come back when you remove the phone from your ears and you can touch the screen without double tap.

Another thing, I like the in-call screen. There are a lot of function that you can invoke during a call easily such as speaker phone, turning bluetooth on and off and others.

@hobbs
Yeah it's a pretty positive review. Despite its shortcomings, its a great device. Now we'll have to wait and see what the subsequent update brings, which has been pushed back to Q1 btw..which probably means end of march:-P

So I have the long awaited Xperia X10 and can't use it. Isn't that something? And it is a shame Sony Ericsson prevents using the phone without a SIM?

I have not found a way to get my AT&T Xperia unlocked. I had to cancel one site and now I am trying another. Sigh...don't make me regret this...I was so tempted to get the Captivate instead lol...

cellunlocker.net. I probably could've given them the 1-3 day period but I got mad and asked for a refund. Now I am trying unlocking.com

Posted by Ricky D
Did the xda thread I pointed you to before help? I've seen there are a number of positive stories. Most of them take a couple days to do a code up though. I read www.unlock-sony.com works but as I said before I've not tried any unlocking service so I can't provide any firm recommendations, only hearsay. Let us know which service finally works for you though.

That unlock-sony site seems to offer a refund if it doesn't work but there may be hassle involved in getting that refund.

Anyone know how to connect EDGE from xperia x10 to mac osx?

I changed the settings from no animation to full animation and the phone is way fast and snappy, that's a good thing

F**k!
My X10 has suddenly stopped notifying sms and email with sound, only vibration.
The ring tone works.
It also makes calls by it self and sending multiple sms with days in between.
I use handcent and the default email client for gmail.
I updated the phone to 2.1 two weeks ago and 2 days ago this things started.

Anybody else who is experiences strange behaviour?

Thanks. Missed that option. Losing the notification bar was annoying.

@mange69 - I had a similar problem, I had to re-set the notification sounds. Custom notification sounds work different in 2.1 too. The Folders on the SD card are arranged differently. Place the files in /sdcard/audio/alarms OR /sdcard/audio/notifications OR /sdcard/audio/ringtones respectively. They used to go in the media folder.

Tnx!

I found the sound issue. Something or someone (me?) must have turned notification sound off under the regular phone settings. The slide was set to 0, but I don't know how. The rest of the problems with auto call/sms is still annoying.

Work Ongoing on Pinch Zoom for Xperia X10

Even though the focus of this blog at this point is mostly on the Android 2.1 update of the X10 family I have something else I would like to share with you.
There has also been lots of rumors around this and I just want to clarify what we’re working on and what to expect.
(I will continue posting information on the current SW-update roll-out after this!)

As many of you know, just before the release of the Xperia X10 we saw lots of discussions around any potential support for multi touch.
Myself and Sumit were then very clear on the fact that there were no plans of having X10 supporting multi touch and said so here on this blog mainly to not have you guys hoping for things that just wasn’t planned.

Since then, because of the huge reaction to this and the real desire for multi touch expressed by you the users, there has been lots of investigations going on and I now have some good news to disclose. We aim to enable multi touch (pinch zoom) in an over-the-air update for the X10. The timing for this update is still a bit work in progress but it will for most markets be during Q1 next year.

What has happened is that some brilliant engineers actually was able to change the driver and firmware for the touch digitizer to make some multi touch gestures work. We are still working on perfecting the user experience and I will keep you updated as work progresses.

I also want to be clear on what to expect from this feature. The digitizer in the X10 is not perfect when it comes to multi touch, there will as an example be situations like when the movement of the two fingers cross each other on the X- or Y-axis that could cause strange behavior. (There has been much online debating around what is “good” and “bad” Multi Touch in competitor phones and this is following the same lines.)

Therefore we also will not enable it everywhere but the current plan is to enable it for the following use-cases:
- Pinch/Zoom in the web browser.
- Pinch/Zoom in Google Maps.

Besides that there is also support in third party applications but because of the limitations on e.g. crossing axis there might be situations where it behaves strangely while it will work just fine for most use-cases.
The support is basically for gestures like pinch/zoom so don’t expect e.g. multi touch gaming with buttons pressed simultaneously on different parts of the screen to work.
Let me know if you have specific multi touch enabled apps you want me to test!

Below is a video where I show some of the use-cases and what to expect on a prototype SW in my X10.

Good, I'll be waiting.
Meanwhile I read an interesting topic over at xperiax10.net forums.
First off, Isn't the hardware for the touchscreen similar to the other brands? HTC, Samsung, etc.? If so, those phone also have multi-touch, but SE doesn't. The problem may be related to the fact that Apple have the trademark "Multi-Touch". They want to keep that unique to them, and other brand may already comply to them, i.e. paying them an amount for having mt capable. Sony Ericsson, however, doesn't want to come under the Apple banner and believes that multi-touch should be available for all capable devices without paying a fee to use it. Which makes sense because Sony sold many devices, which would like to incoporate multi-touch into them. They would have to then pay a huge amount of money just to sell multi-touch capable devices to Apple, Inc. I heard there is an lawsuit going on. Sony might win, they might lose, either way, Sony definitely wants to sell mt capable devices. The might get that freedom, or bitterly pay Apple to do it.

This newly limited multitouch from SE would be a way for SE to beat around the bush and not call it multitouch outright. just the tip of the iceberg for any upcoming changes. I myself would love to have full multitouch on my Xperia x10, but I have also been satisfy without it.

Assuming what I think is correct, but I'm also taking it with a grain of salt. I dunno if what I read are entirely true or not, but multi-touch is a trademark with Apple, Inc, it's a fact, so it's make that much more believable.

I also feel like preaching to the choir, since many of you here may already know of this, but I just notice this recent, so want to share my thoughts.

btw, if anyone having trouble with MMS on their 2.1 firmware, do try APNdroid, via Android Market.

Rather late than never.Thats good news.Ive got this pgone till June 2012 so any improvements are most welcome.Love my X10 and for the first time I might actually keep a phone for longer than a couple of months.

Haha, but it's cool they have something that works. i wount try it untill it's better than SEs original and i guess it will be a while.. don't se the point in changing if it's not better.

This comes at the bottom of the 1st post so it says it all..

THIS ROM IS STILL ON TEST PHASE! IS NOT EVEN ALPHA !
I AM NOT RESPONSABLE IF YOU BREAK YOUR DEVICE OR DROP YOUR COFEE !

Cant believe people are even bothering knowing that you cant make or recieve calls,no 3G and camera is only Black and White.Force closes with some stuff and restarts.A big mess IMO but a BIG MESS IN PROGRESS

Better late than never indeed
I'm loving my X10, the N8 makes me realise how great a decision i made to not wait for it, i would have kicked myself for missing out on Android, the gorgeous X10, and the huge amount of support in terms of software.

Cant wait to get multitouch now and the Froyo 2.2 custom ROM once its done.
