About the compass: http://developer.sonyericsson.com/community/message/129127#129127

BTW, the screen was capable of 256K but had to limit it due to Android 1.6. When Android 2.0 upgrade applied screen will be 256K.

Just kidding about the screen. I know I shouldn't make jokes about such a delicate topic but I couldn't resist. Sorry for that.

first off no one is trolling here, its not trolling just because theres a difference of opinion, thats called discussion or debate, its when someone is deliberately trying to cause arguments without being on topic. so no need to name call its on a fair side of unproductive.

still, i had to ask someone who could tell me about the compass and since the app works we know its included, its gotta be part of the chipset which is why i was thoroughly confused about it.

still good to know now. now onto bigger and better things, got one down, lets see if we can nudge a new bit depth outta SE.

and no HTC didnt make the X10 they are 2 diff manufacturers.

Yea congrats sealover94...

Both colours look good... I would have to look at them in the flesh to decide...

Also depends if any of the networks get exclusive on the colours... which would be a shame...

Hey everyone I live in the US....ive got a few things:

1. On SE website the UK X10 model it supports US Tmobile 3g 1700/2100....but the X10a only supports At&t 3g band, not Tmos..That seems wierd to me. Im on Tmo so im gonna have to import. Which Im fine with Ive always imported my phones since the p900 days, im just throwing that out there cuz it seemed strange to me that the bands would be like that.

2. How much US dollars you think this sucker is gonna be?!! and When do you think we will start seen places like expansys etc..starting to list a price??

There can't be A-GPS without GPS

"Difficult to upgrade to Android 2.0"
According to idg.se

"After Google's mobile launch of Android 2.0, many are wondering if and how to upgrade all phones based on the earlier versions.

The current situation is based, the vast majority of Androidtelefoner on version 1.5 of Google's operating system, while the single suppliers chosen version 1.6. Once Android is now in version 2.0, of course, many want to upgrade phones, but it's easier said than done. "

that article doesn't say anything we didn't already know.

Obviously upgrading to a more powerful version of android will require higher specs to run it. X10 would not have that problem.

The second issue is software compatibility, specifically SE's custom interface and apps. This just means if we want to use SE's custom interface and apps, we have to wait for SE to make compatible versions (if they aren't already compatible). But, that doesn't stop us from upgrading to android 2.0 and simply using the standard android interface, as ugly as it is. Some might not care at all

I look forward to upgrading to android 2.0 though! There won't be a color depth limit like 1.6. Like the Droid, it'll have 24-bit color support, and the X10 should already have the specs to churn out those colors For initial use, it won't bother me but since I look at a lot of photos, i'd rather have the 24-bit color depth eventually.

What are the chances for that, what do you people think? I mean getting more colours (and how much more?) with an update do Android 2.0. 65K is really low, so IMO that is a must!

Hopefully, SE will build UX over vanilla android, as an app, and not "mess" with the OS.

Now when I read the review of Samsung I7500 (which has a display supporting 16.7 millions colours) over at mobile-review.com it clearly makes sense with all this whining of X10 just having a display able to show 65k colours.
It doesn't matter if the display is clear and shows vivid colours. It will just make it more obvious how extremely stupid it was by Sony Ericsson to only support 65k colours. The colour blending will become more obvious and pictures wont be displayed as they are meant to.
It has a resolution of 854x480 as we all already know and even 256k isn't sufficent for this resolution and size of the display, because still there will be 153920 pixles using the wrong colours due to the lack of rich colour palette support.
Whether the human eyes can see 16.7 millions of colours or not doesn't matter because clearly we can see millions of millions and anything bellow 16.7 millions to a high end device like X10 is not acceptable.
Whoever states anything else is lying.
We shouldn't bash people who feel let down by Sony Ericsson for giving us a display able to draw just 65k different colours. What we should do is to unite and put a preasure on Sony Ericsson to give us better display than just this lousy crap.

@sealover94, how can u confirm the absence of multitouch when the marketing manager himself says that x10 will be having multi-touch support? where did u read the "No radio" thing? it would be nice to see at least the sources of ur "confirmations". the only thing I agree with u is the colour issue, but repeating it over and over again won't change this fact. I think we should wait for the final product before making any judgements

Posted by my ninja
the radio is an attachement, hes right theres no radio
i told him and others that multitouch is software and a limit of 1.6 not X10
compass is golden!

but uhh to whomever is spreading the rumor that the color limit is due to 1.6 has false information, the only think i know of that was limited with android and the screen was the resolution which got kicked up in 1.5 or 1.6 which is why the X10 is 480*854 (wow) for example samsung: http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_i7500_galaxy-2791.php is clocking 16.7M for its screen + its OLED great contrast for videos and pictures.

The device looks pretty good in that video... Would have been nice to know what the guy was saying along with his demo though!!!

With regards to the blog, he hasnt got a clue what he's talking about - 65k colours limitation of Android?!?!?!??! He fe hasnt seen the new Samsung then!!!

Saying that though, the screen looks alright on that video... Didnt think it looked bad... But I have to agree, more would have been better, whether thats 16.7m colours or just 262k due to battery issues... Both are better than 65k... The Hero is 65k and that looks fine, didnt even know it was 65k before this whole discussion...

I'm hopeful for a decent screen...

And damn, the phone is sexy!!!

This phone looks fantastic but SE have to stop blaming others for their shortfalls by the time this launches The iPhone fourth generation will have been announced as they announce the new models every january or july. SE need to stop trying to play Apple and NOKIA Games when the original N95 was announced the iphone was not even around so Nokia rode the Tidal wave of anticipation. SE cannot Afford to think that they can do the same, When the fourth gen iPhone is announced most people will forget the X10 ever existed.

The iPhone will probably move to LED or OLED as apple have moved everything to LED and so will Nokia

SE need to Hurry up with this device or risk a White elephant

I think Sams 16.7m colors is just marketing... They said that screen support 16m colors, but didn`t said about Android limitation.
It is not lie, but not full truth

Yesss Loving the battery size!

1500mAH!

* Will the X10 receive Android 2.0 update (for those who bought from the initial batches with Android 1.6) ?

The UX platform used for Xperia X10 will evolve to Android 2.0 over time.

So they will eventually be selling the X10 with Android 2.0! Good times!

My X1 has 65000 colours
and looks better than any Nokia 16mln colours display,
so pretty pointless theoretical assumptions.

Not that I don't like development...

Pointless you say...
I'm using Xperia X1 myself and I know it is not a pointless assumption you so nicely believe it is.
The display is most likely the best one I have ever seen in a phone which I have owned.
Doesn't matter how much I tilt the phone, the colours stay same which I love.
Ironically its display is also the only flaw in this phone if you ask me. When watching on photos and videos you clearly see the sharp colour transition when darker parts get brighter and vice versa.
Take a look at the post where a member compares an image with different colour depth a few pages back.
Higher colour depth does matter when displays get bigger with higher resolution.

it doenst make sense, 8.1mpx cam with no color.

sony PRIDES themselves on the screens they put in their cameras, such as the alpha line and the DSC line, yet somehow SE forgot the memo. FFF that they pride themselves on ALL of their screens. look at the new walkman x series, OLED's.

480*854 the HIGHEST DESNITY PIXEL SCREEN CELL TO DATE! w/ 65k colors. how does an engineer reconcile this, dont they see what the iphone has been using this WHOLE time 16.7M. its a nice disgrace. feel like i should be using a palm pilot with monochrome. like why have any of the MMedia interface if the videos and pictures are going to look like shit?

somehow SE forgot they have SONY's WHOLE inventory to paruse for damn near nothing. yet they come up with this screen?

cmon now!?

Why dont we just addressed all of this color complain in comment section in official se blog? Or maybe at SE developer world forum? Maybe they dont read this thread at esato?

When are blaming others for their shortfalls and what are their shortfalls anyway? I personally think they make great phones and the best UI.

There is no 'tidal wave of anticipation' ,that is all in your head. The internet is not reality in case you hadn't noticed.

You're idea of the 4th Gen iPhone is way off. It'll probably get a 5.0Mp camera to match the Droid, maybe more HDD and wifi N. That's probably it. Remember Apple don't do quantum leaps in hardware, they do quantum leaps in platform.

The first smartphone released with Snapdragon will never be accused of being a white elephant.

And I reiterate, the 65K screen will not hold this back. X1 and X2 are 65K also.
