I'm only ever angry against stupidity. Doesn't matter if it's about a phone or world politics.

Also, Sumit's post AKA the link provided in a couple of posts above yours. If you're so concerned about SE products, the least you could do is click a link that points to their official blog.

Please, go buy the NexusOne and forever hold your peace.
Google Experience devices get the updates first. This is something that was made clear ever since the early days of Android. If it took you this long to figure it out, I feel sorry for ya.

I dont need you to tell me which one to buy thanks. I will make a decision once X10 is released. As you say it is clear that nexus one will get updates first. I am more concerned whether or not SE will continue to provide support down the road. I already got stung by buying a G900 which was completely abandoned in the uk within weeks of it going on sale and it was even completely removed from their uk site with no trace whatsoever.

Your original post said that you were "Torn between the X10 and the N1 because the N1 is likely to get the updates first". I was just making life easier for you.

If it's any consolation, your G900 was never intended to get any major OS updates, even if UIQ lived on. The phones now known as Paris and BeiBei were the ones that were supposed to get the next version of UIQ. In any case, there is absolutely no sense in comparing OS updates from that era because back then, regular (Let alone Major) OS updates were not a frequent thing. Except maybe Nokia.

If you want to assess SE's current capabilities of delivering updates, look at the Satio. An update was provided within days after customer complaints. That's as fast or faster than everyone in the business right now.

Before you begin to chastise me for whatever reasons, I'll let you know that there's a Satio AND a G900 sitting on my table right now, both of which I use every day.

Posted by miguel82
Satio its not a good thing to compare here... They did an update fast... but only when 2 major stores send the phones back until they fix it.
And by the way i dont really call it an update since they didnt add anything, but more a firmware that should have come with satio in the first place.
Now the big question is how much time will they take to pull out the real update.

Dont get me wrong im not saying SE is worst or better than the other companys... they are almost the same and they are only fast to provide updates when their sales are affected

Posted by Arne Anka
@miguel82

There are small signs Satio may eventually get an update after Vivaz has been released.

http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=193808

For X2 there seem to be a more definitive answer that two larger updates are planed as you can read in my post in the link below.

http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=189073

All in all I have good confidence X10 will be properly maintained by SE (time will tell).

Yes everything points in that direction and im happy about it, but lets wait to see if they make significant changes and how much time we will have to wait.
Now im stuck with satio with its missing basic features ... and a omnia hd with a lot of bugs because the crappy samsung even 1 official firmware update for this phone released here in Portugal after all this time (This is even more unaceptable and i may never buy a samsung phone again just because of that)
Nontheless these 2phones together complete each other but im tired for exemple of using satio only for taking pictures and not for music because of: no equalizer and a pain in the ass to search musics, ...and on the other side omnia hd is good for music, but cant take pictures with it because they will look square on the pc because of a bug! Ridiculous

Im hopping X10 will save my day!

Camera is not important to me but the quality of the music IS.
Thanks!
BY the way! The German online shop wher3 I usually buy my mobile phones has announced it, well, both of them at 364e ( Vivaz) and 504e the X10

So we now have at least one Android 2.1 that's not remotely "Google experience" on the way - a heavily customised HTC with Sense UI - http://www.engadget.com/2010/[....]king-snapdragon-android-2-1-w/

Clock's ticking on that update.

Since this topic is about the X10, i suggest you stay on topic, or get your ass somewhere else.
I have never ever experienced such a messy tread ever, or such amount of FU that tries to make this tread garbage. To bad for the guys that actually wants to read about the X10 in here.

Posted by anonymuser
And again, ron.jeremy - heal thyself. Post something relevant to the thread. Try talking about phones.

Last time I looked, discussing the market into which a major new phone is released is not forbidden in a thread about that phone. What other Android manufacturers are doing matters to the X10, and to perceptions of the X10, whether certain people want to hear that or not. If your precious little eyes can't bear to read a few little realities like that, then maybe it's you that needs to find yourself another forum, rather than wasting everyone's time in handing out lectures here.

And yes, I know I'm being a hypocrite in trying to lecture you back. Next time you'll be ignored.

I have it on good authority that the smaller, cheaper, SE Android phone will now be released ahead of the X10 - at least in the UK.

I am not sure if this means the X10 will be further delayed, but SE is about to launch a big ad campaign for the other handset first.

Are you saying I am stupid then?

I now see what you were trying to say, I was looking for an ESATO user called Sumit posting here, of course there is not one! you must mean the Sumit on the so called "official blog"!

He is merely trying to pass on (rather poorly IMHO) the sales pitch to the network ops (Who ARE clearly concerned!) that the V1.6 the X10 will initially be shipped with is perfectly good (I am sure it is) and that whilst Adroid V2 and V2.1 offer big improvements over V1.6
The additional functionality layer Sony Ericsson have built will keep the X10 up to speed and spec with the vanilla Android V2.1 phones the networks will also be selling along side the X10.

He then goes on to say that that Sony Ericsson WILL be issuing an OS upgrade at some unspecified time in the future.

This tells me nothing I had not already heard, only that this time it is from a "Semi official" yet fully deniable (by Sony Ericsson) source!

Lets discuss the X10 then............................................................................................... Ah its not been released yet!

Posted by se_dude
Thats better. So come back when it has been released and we can have a discussion then.

Are SE serious about releasing the X10 mini earlier?

Posted by jmcomms
Scratch that; my good authority has just come over bragging about the new phone and it turns out that it's the bloody Vivaz!!

So, the VIVAZ will be released imminently - not the other Android model, as yet unannounced!

Sorry for the confusion. My bad for thinking SE could actually do an Apple and announce a product that was ready to ship straight away....

Posted by Bonovox
That'll be the bloody day how long we have to wait for to release a model when others have released ten of the same spec or better in the meantime

as jmcomms clarified, his friend was talking about the vivaz....

MWC is next week... i wonder if we'll learn anything new about the X10.

I hope they confirm that the x10 come with Android 2.1 and Multitouch and sorry for my bad english.

Posted by Tsepz_GP
Vivaz in a strange way reminds me of N82, boasting great features and yet is very well priced. Im far more excited about it than the X10. SE usualy get it right on their 2nd try in Symbian lol, eg. P990 to P1 and W950 to W960, lol.
I just see the X10 not totaly living up to expectations. Im not trying to bash X10 at all but if i was in the market for a Android device,id get the MOTO Milestone and wait for the next SE Android.

they have already confirmed that it will come with 1.6 (and are using the fact that they have implemented much of the later android functionality already as an argument why this will is not a problem for the X10).

The also said "What I hope to get across to you all, is that there will be a software update for Xperia X10 that will upgrade the complete Sony Ericsson User Experience Platform based on newer version of the Android OS." which does not specify exactly which version of android they are intending to provide an upgrade to and whether or not this will include the multitouch functionality recently released onto the nexus one.

Posted by Karun
@shepy
Your english is good enough
Android 2.1 might come later but multitouch is a different ballgame altogether.
Lets just hope the X10 can hold its own and stand out among the plethora of devices being launched. As for me, for the time being, am going with the Vivaz Will get the X10 later once its price stabilises.

Posted by phone4video
I was wondering, will it be possible to clear the SE UX from the X10 and update Android 1.6 to 2.0 or 2.1?
Or is that something that will take lots of time of some very smart people for making that possible?

Posted by motvikt
There are some nasty rumours going around in a swedish forum that x10 wont support multitouch hardware-wise (inside info its said).

I know that would be a complete dealbreaker for me. Software being bad is one thing, but hardware...

God I hate SE sometimes... Its like a love-hate relationship

The x10 will not support multitouch out of the box for sure, as confirmed in that interview. The hardware might support it, we're just not going to get anything from SE on that front. Until the 2.1 upgrade ( If and when that happens...knowing SE, am still unsure about the extent of the upgrade we can look forward to, Sumit @Product blog never lets us know which version will it be updated to ), nothing can be done. After that its upto the folks at xda developers to weave their magic

From Eldar? You don't say...

Reviews of retail versions would be awesome of course, but from GSMA or Phone Arena. Or if Sergei Kuzmin does the M-R review.

I asked this question on http://developer.sonyericsson.com/cws/devworld/forum?cc=gb&lc=en

Hi

What kind of model of capacitive touch screen are there on the X10, is it Single Touch, Dual Touch or MultiTouch

This question is in regards to development of games and applications, including dual/multi-player gaming devices and mobile applications for the X10

- ClearPad 3000 Series—Our premium ClearPad solution provides the ultimate in touchscreen innovation and excitement with MultiTouch capabilities (up to 10 fingers simultaneously). A powerful new chip delivers 48 sensing channels and excellent power management for a differentiated user experience. Click here to see the 3000 Series demo demo with gestures like Crumple and Scratch.
- ClearPad 2000 Series—ClearPad 2000 Series—the original ClearPad solution—brings exceptional DualTouch (2-finger) touch capabilities to a wide range of handheld devices. High performance and accuracy combined with seamless gesture integration make ClearPad 2000 Series the proven touchscreen leader seen in the market.
- ClearPad 1000 Series—ClearPad 1000 makes touch capabilities available to mass-market handheld devices. This SingleTouch solution provides exceptional gesture integration and a flexible zero-border sensor design. For cost-effective touchscreen capabilities, ClearPad 1000 is the right choice.

While I agree that Eldar has been unbelievably silly and horribly biased when reviewing certain SE phones but this preview is well done.

He points out the negative aspects in relation to competitors and some good points.

whoever is thinking of buying a x10 with 1.6 version must be a fool....
wait for 2.0 to be intergrated....but until then you will find out there will be plenty of better phones to choose...

To wait for what? Most of the features of 2.0 are already integrated in SE version of 1.6. I have tested both X10 and Moto Droid and don't see so much advantages in Moto, except the hardware keyboard that I am really missing in X10.

Thanks for all your feedback, Been busy reading it all through now! I’ll try to summaries my answers below. I hope to have covered most of it, but unfortunately I may not have all the answers to all your questions at this point.

Thanks Manish for supporting on clarifications and Cooldavee for good constructive feedback on shortcoming on the .com among other feedback. Will pass that on to our web team. Thanks to rest of you as well. Appreciate the feedback and getting it first hand, so I get what is top of your mind even though I can´t fulfil all your requests for clarification at this point.

X10 will launch with Android 1.6 and it will be possible to upgrade to a later Android release as part of upgrading the whole UXP. I can´t be explicit about what version nor exact timing at this time and therefore it’s difficult for me to discuss the details on which of the 2.1 capabilities that will be leveraged in the upgrade. This is as we are enhancing the product with a different approach using our UXP layer. I understand your frustration as you have reference points in the market and thus your views of what we should support.

What I can say is that I hear you clearly with regards to usage improvements that you would like to see. Time to market with upgrades, multi touch, improved colour depth, native support for exchange active sync, multiple inbox etc. Trust me, I agree with your views on what the benefits are.

- Multi touch really enhances browsing etc. Fully agree, but can unfortunately not comment on the support for it in future upgrades at this point.

- @Pezt: agree about the unfortunate screen colour confusion created by us with conflicting information at point of launch. With regards to what the hw can cope with in regards to updates, I am checking on my end to see what I can say about it. For launch 64k stands and I watch video etc. and for the eye it is good quality for sure in this big screen.

- We have done some work to overcome the native exchange support gap in 1.6. The mail client, included in the phone, support synchronisation with phonebook which is one recognized aspect.

- Battery life, I am checking as well if there are some numbers to communicate but performance is good from my perspective as a user.

The upgrade will be made available at sonyericsson.com for the user. “Minor” upgrades that are not firmware will be delivered OTA.

@Roshan J Thaliath: can you send me your customer complaint mail and response please and I will follow up. sumit.malhotra@sonyericsson.com

@hunk143, thanks for clarifying who I am . However I haven´t been that active, so it’s understandable that people miss that.

Cheers,
Sumit

hmm he keeps avoiding the multitouch matter...

I have a feeling he wont say anything on multitouch in the future either. We'll get it though, one way or the other

@ anders260
The Nexus One uses ClearPad 2000 capacitive touchscreen sensor so maybe X10 has the same too. It allows DualTouch (2-finger) touch capabilities. The newer Clearpad 3000 series has multiTouch capabilities which allows up to 10 fingers simultaneously!
