@Nitro Fan

I'm not getting into a pissing contest with you because I haven't either the time or the inclination and its, quite frankly, a waste of time attempting to convince the inconvincible.

anders260 posted a vid a way back on page 142. That's quick enough for me and no doubt it will get faster.

Good to see you have dropped the name calling! But of course I always knew there was no demo that proved me wrong!

Just to drag things back to somewhere near topic, two points re: the UK release of this phone:-

1. The cheapest I have seen it offered is by Pay.com @ £499, whilst Expansys say £587.13...OUCH!

2. Neither site has moved their predicted release date in ages, with Play being hopelessly optimistic with 19th Feb, whilst Expansys say 22nd April.. SE's own buy now section still says TBC and gives the option to "Pre-Register".

Any info about UK date or pricing very welcome.

Cheers.

I actually saw a x10 live irl today, some guys from SE had it in my class.

They couldn't tell my much about it though... They said that they heard it's going to be released with
1,6 and then there would be upgrades to later versions.
One of the guys also had an iPhone and he said that writing sms was much harder (at least if you are used to an iPhone) since you can't press two letters at once, that didn't sound good and then i got another big disappointment
you can't buy apps from the android market in sweden since you can't pay for them yet.
This can be worth checking if you are gonna buy an android phone since not all countries allow you to buy apps yet.

I was talking to a man from SE in Vodafone's Strand branch in London today, he was saying that they are aiming for release a week before Easter, he didn't say too much else, apart from an app being available that puts the keyboard in Landscape ( I don't know if this is already possible or not),but he seemed certain on it being late next month to be released.

If it's any later please don't blame me!

Yea thats one place where the iPhone has other phones the balls, onscreen keyboard. The error correction and multitouch does wonders for the iPhone's soft keyboard...again this is where some sort of multitouch woulld be appreciated by the end user, especially seeing that it has no physical keyboard.

Other than that, I wish Sny Ericssoon would go ahead and release an offcial suggested retail price for the X10

Anyone know if the X10 has full Microsoft Exchange support

Multitouch is enable for the Nexus One now. Hopefully Google will enable it in all versions solving all multi-touch issues/complaints.

Posted by Trickois
That's good news, but just in case we're worried that non Google branded handsets won't get Multitouch, then the review below should offer some re-assurance.

Link text...

Dolphin has been mentioned before, but apparently this newer version is even better. For me, web-browsing is the only time that multi-touch would be particularly useful so I'm happy.

I had a few minutes to play on this handset today. Based on my own personal view and observation the phone seemed nice and light with a lovely bright and very responsive screen. It seemed very fast too, however there wasn't really any content loaded on the handset to see how it really performed. Hopefully we will see it before Easter in the UK. I've been looking at this phone as my next upgrade since it was announced and my initial impression has made me feel it will be worth the wait.

Have anyone find out what accessories that's in the box?

First I must say; I really love this forum, sometimes is gives me real info and sometimes it is just really amusing.

To all of you who would have wanted the x10 to come with an OLED-screen, I have done a little test.
I have an Samsung Jet and a K850i.
My Samsung Jet has in direct sunlight (in the winter in Holland ) a very poor display.
I've made a screenprint of a movie and used the image on both phones.
Of course I had to zoom in on the K850i to make an real comparision. First I noticed that colours are truly more intense on the OLED. But after I held both phones in the sunlight, there was nothing left of those colours.. While in my other hand the image was still visible on the K850i.

I think I can assume that the x10-display will be beter then the display of my old K850i, but now I'm also sure that it will be beter than an OLED.
Some of you already mentioned that OLED is terrible in sunlight. Since I'm a very stubborn, I had to test it for myself..

I've found a price of the x10 on the german -site, it's a little bit higher then I'd hoped for:
http://www.sonyericsson-shop.de/epages/Store.sf/de_DE/?ObjectPath=/Shops/Ignition/Categories/Demnaechst

Keep up the good work!
And stop comparing the x10 with the Iphone, my Jet is even better then an Iphone, simply because it plays avi's and doesn't have a toycamera.
Ok, there's one thing I secretly really like about the Iphone, that is the app whereby one can send pictures of ones ass to perfect strangers. But I'm sure I wouldn't miss it on the x10

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Organic_LED

its likely they try to tune down brightness to keep OLED life longer....yes...it gift something great compare to LCD but there's a trade off...read the wiki info about OLED disadvantage....of course as technology move on.....it will be able to catch up with LCD.

I've got my hands on a proto of X10.

But quite disappointed of the video recording quality.
Only 16fps on WVGA.

The build version is R1DA007.
Is this the latest build fellow proto owners?

Also can someone please help me with some PC drivers for it?

Just wondering if anyone has noticed if the x10 will feature a lockable homescreen (pattern unlock, bog standard password, anything)? I've seen the 'slide to unlock' thing, which is pretty cool, but not what i'm after.

I'm pretty sure i've watched the majority of preview vids but maybe i missed something?

The SO-01B is also on the update service.

Aren't those lock screens available to all Android devices? I'm sure in the settings (or app store) you can activate the pattern unlock screen.

About the screen thing....
There are amoled and amoled... I cant see a thing on my n85 amoled screen under direct sunlight so i thought that it will be the same on other phones. NOT TRUE
Having now both satio and omnia hd i put them under direct sunlight and the results were almost the same for each other (not the best performence i have seen but cleary much much better than n85)... so no advantage here of the satio screen not being amoled like i thought on the beginning.
But theres a lot of difference when these 2 screens are competing indoors... Satio screen is still very good but... it looks like crap next to omnia hd screen..

Conclusion: There are screens and screens

New firmware for Google Nexus One is avalaibe. Look at its characteristics - http://googlenexusoneboard.bl[....]ware-update-for-nexus-one.html

Posted by anonymuser
Genuine question - the Nexus One now has some multitouch functionality (specifically pinch-to-zoom in browsing, photos etc). Android 2.x was supposed to be multitouch-enabled anyway, though it's not clear how or if this gets used in one 2.x phone to the next. So has the Nexus One (or any other Android) now got a multitouch keyboard - ie the ability to register more than one keypress at a time? Personally I think that's probably the most important, day to day use of multitouch for me - it's not as headline grabbing or easy to demonstrate as pinch to zoom, but I think it makes a much bigger difference on a touchscreen only device.

This is great news! Now the only quastion is how long it will take for that firmware to reach x10

Posted by mreman4k
It's not a matter of this firmware making it to the X10. Google has stated many many times that multitouch is available for use by developers. The ball is in Sony's court as to whether it gets implemented or not in the main applications.

Posted by Trickois
Hi Guys, good news in general on the Multi-Touch front, with how much SE have riding on this, I can't see them not using it, now that the genie is out of the bottle. I am still un-certain as to UK dates and pricing..

Equally concerned by the mail I received from the SE shop today, bearing in mind that I am pre-registered for X10.

http://wize1.co.uk/7U9-3DZ0-441BU9PV88/cr.aspx

They say Vivaz is coming soon, but absolutely no mention of X10!?!

Please just let it come soon and nearly as cheaply here as mainland Europe!

I'm sure I remember someone in this thread saying that this phone did not have video-calling.

The link I posted on the previous page (SEMCJ) clearly shows the phone with four apetures above the screen. Speaker, light sensor, proximity sensor and a fourth. That can only be a video call camera can't it?

Posted by miguel82
I dont know if you guys noticed but X10 is already on SE update service with the name: SO-01B. They never had a prototype there before why they have now?

Posted by goldenface
I posted that previously. Strange it's there already, may be it's for testers.

Yes but it hasn't been released in Japan yet so it's strange it is showing on SEUS already.

On some video clips there is a green flashing led in the upper right corner, so I believe what you see may be speaker, light sensor, proximity and message indicator or something similar. No video call camera.

To be fair, the Devour will be in shops in the US next month. Probably right next to the empty space marked "X10 - Coming Soon"...

It'll be cheap and cheerful too - cheaper than either of Moto's Android handsets to date, which probably means a LOT cheaper than the X10 when it finally arrives.

I realise you've been here for a while, but you do still remember the meaning of the word "fair"? As in: "Trying to justify the shortcomings of an expensive high-end flagship by comparing it to a cheaper mass-market model that's coming out sooner isn't really fair".

Thanks.
I will update the firmware to the retail one, if this is possible and hopefully it is.

Now kinda iffy with the sound formats supported.
No m4a for my iTunes podcasts.

No matter tough.
The device is awesome and all my colleagues dig it.
Might get killed for it.

Who right. I thought Android was Open source and you did not have to pay a premium for an updated version of Android? So how does your argument justify the Devour? The X10 is also out next month btw.

Que? Development costs money. Re-using the 1.6 based Motoblur already used on the Dext for the Devour saves money, and reduces the price of the Devour accordingly. It's a cheaper, more accessable handset for people who like the features but aren't too worried about the bleeding edge, so it makes perfect sense.

The X10 is high end, it'll be more expensive, it'll be SE's first Android phone (so no older platform to recycle), and it'll be out at least a month later than the Devour. So what does it have to do with the Devour? Nothing.

According to Tech Radar the x10 will run V1.6 with upgrade to V2.0 "later on" and be available on Vodafone in April

Mobiletoday claims that it will available from the first of March. Looks like the X10 will be exclusive for a month to some other provider and also available sim free henceforth.
Err what? I am sure the X10 was in development since Android was first announced? A phone just doesnt come out of the blue. It takes months of development to bring it into existence. What applies for Moto applies for SE too. They were already into developing 1.6 so they did not find v.2.0 to be a viable update now.

Gawd!! Talking of double standards here. Bpinng, keep to your iphone. Such stupid comments dont show you in high light. Get well soon.

Mobile Today actually says this:

Mobile Today:
Online sales staff told Mobile the smartphone will be available from Sony Ericsson's online shop on March 1.

A Sony Ericsson online salesman said the online store will stock the X10 exclusively for the first week of March before it is goes on sale through other channels.

Mobile understands Vodafone has cut a deal with Sony Ericsson to stock the handset.

However a Sony Ericsson spokesman insisted: 'No date has been confirmed yet. All we have said is it will be launched in Quarter One.'

So even according to them it's Vodafone who have the exclusive - and Vodafone say April. There's nothing on the SE online store confirming a 1st March release - only the claim of these unnamed "online sales staff" who are contradicting SE's official line. Are SE really going to start selling the phone sim-free a full month before Vodafone's "exclusive"?

Err what? I am sure the X10 was in development since Android was first announced? A phone just doesnt come out of the blue. It takes months of development to bring it into existence.

No, phones don't come out of the blue, but that doesn't excuse SE being continually behind the curve. Moto brought the Dext out in October (using 1.6), and the Devour is just a cheaper, more accessable development of that platform. But even the Dext wasn't a high-end phone - that would be the Droid, remember. Released in November. With 2.0.

What applies for Moto applies for SE too. They were already into developing 1.6 so they did not find v.2.0 to be a viable update now.

There's a pretty crucial difference - Moto already released a 1.6 phone, four months ago. They've also done a 2.0 phone for the high end, three months ago. Now they're just capitalising on their advantage, and all that development they've already done.

SE on the other hand have released nothing for Android. Whenever they started developing the X10, they haven't developed it fast enough - hence their planned release of a Q1 handset in Q2, based on an OS from Q4 last year.
