Well observed. According to the SE japanese website it will have bluetooth 2.0 not 2.1.

Both versions will have 256 RAM + 128 video RAM. CMIIW

I have watched on youtube that Nexus One will get an update that enables it to fully support Flash 10.1. Will SE X10 get the same sooner or later?

I think X10 will get a lot features added before it is released to the market based on the Japanese version specs. I hope FM Radio with RDS (and Fm -Transmitter as well), stereo speaker as loud as the one on Aino's but with better audio quality, and of course, the 720p video recording @ 30 fps (plus slow motion and fast forward setting) with continuous auto-focus in H.264 format and stereo audio. Please hear my prayers SE.

It's sad to see how many of you will be disappointed, because your wishes will never become real...

Another preview - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71iPffQKosg / phoneArena.com
The firmware on that protype is old and doesn't show anything spectacular, it lags and... you know the rest. This video doesn't worth watching, but I'll leave the link.

^^That preview is 2 months old.

I'm far from sad. On the contrary, I get so excited sometimes I could burst, ha ha. I just wish they'd release it sooner.

For those who think the X10 is going to have HD recording at a latter date. Bad luck guys. It aint happening. Go for the Bravo if you have to. You will be missing out on a lot more there.

Posted by rss_ndrsn
^What makes you think it would not? I guess it is not bad to keep a little faith in SE in that matter.

What makes you think it would? Hello! That's SE, not Nokia, HTC or Motorola. No big updates after the final specifications are out. My condolence. Any other questions?

Posted by se_dude
No company is ever going to give you such an update.EVER!!!
Talking about Nokia, Samsung. What big update have they given?
Something as big as HD recoding isnt in the cards. For the given wish to be true, the sensor has to support HD recording which probably it does not.

Posted by frank2345babies
I would say nokia giving nealry all smartphone users a free update to turn by turn voice satelite navigation is a pretty big update

Posted by rss_ndrsn
^I was not talking about an update! I was talking about the X10 getting some more features before it is finally released.
The update I was talking about is the Flash 10.1 which Adobe said themselves will come to Nexus One. So I asked if x1- would get the same. Where did the hell you got it from? You got it all mixed up. Se-dude could you please read the post carefully before you post.

To se_dude,

Since you started the "update" thing, here's one for you: Apple updating 3GS to have the capability to record video at 720p resolution. Although it is just a rumour but then agian imagine how it would make the Iphone 3GS even more desirable.

What SE has got to lose in making x10 capable of HD recording? The hardware fully support it; although you were right about the lense but I "think" Vivaz and X10 have the same sensor and lens. X10 has not been released yet and still got time to make things happen (hardware wise).

I would say nokia giving kineting scrolling, giving free gps navigation, HTC giving updates to windows mobile 6.5 and probably the same with WM7, samsung updates to wm6.5, kinetic scrolling to omnia hd .... and what about SE: smile detection in C905 (by the way i never use that crap on satio)
I dont have faith in SE anymore... Too many years have past and they have always been the same. I remember the time with p800 when we all wanted an update to the latest UIQ that p900 had... they even care to give p800 updates over the internet. And the list goes on... lately i think all the win mobile phones have received updates to wm6.5 and what about X1?... SE said: buy a X2 if you want wm6.5

What a bullsh..t.

90% of all existing WM 6.1 devices don't see any upgrade to WM 6.5
Only FEW succesful models get that, HTC did it to TWO phones
of their whole portfolio!
Diamond 2 and Pro2.
They screwed HTC HD and Diamond/TPro 1 users, and all other WM 6.1 devices too,
even if the hardware could do it!

So don't say wrong thing please.

Posted by miguel82
HTC (or QTEC) gived uptdates from WinMobile5 to 6 in the past too.
Sorry i dont know to how much phones HTC gived updates.
But my point was not that.. It was that SE even 1 single big update give us till now, and the other companys did.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10: PS3 Remote Play App coming soon?

http://www.product-reviews.ne[....]3-remote-play-app-coming-soon/

@rss- Why are you so interested in rumors. Apple is never going to give a 720p update on the iphone. Its just bullcrap. If it comes, it will be in the upcoming one. You guys dont understand the difference between hardware and software updates do you?
If you guys havent noticed SE with its software updates provides flash lite updates, google map updates, wayfinder, etc etc which is technically similar to OVI maps. And please, the next update will be in march for the satio and that will be the BIG update you are looking for and shall incorporate a lot of features from the vivaz.
How many S60 or Android or Wm phones have SE released? Its 1 for each. So its ridiculous to say that SE do not provide updates, without even looking into the bigger picture.

Posted by synn
I love how Apple rumors are treated as facts while SE ones are "far fetched".

How's the camera on the new iPod Touch treating ya? Are you excited that the new Apple tablet would cook dinner for you come wednesday?

Because that rumour might come true. The only thing that prevents Iphone 3GS to record video at 720p resolution is the software. The hardware, camera and GPU, support it.

Posted by se_dude
@rss- How many apple rumors have ever come true. Both of us know that it wont happen. If you dont, however, its a completely different story then. Good luck to you. As a matter of fact, I doubt the iphone can record in HD. The platform supports it, but the sensor doesnt IMO. Havent seen too many 3.2mp sensors recording in HD.

Well, it seems like tHD recording is important to you.You should vouch for the Bravo then.

I think I can go without the new browser UI and live wallpapers because the better cam more than makes up for it.

Posted by miguel82
@se_dude In fact thats true... only 1 S60 and WM phone, but look at the UIQ too. The only big updates they add was to the next new phone for you to buy.
I know SE always make big costumization to their phones (In some cases more than they should), meaning a lot of troubles to implement them again in a new platform, and this may be the reason i they never changed the OS version of a phone.
Nevertheless there was a lot of small things they could be done in the past. Hope they do it now with satio and continuing to do with X10.

Orange Could Get A X10 UK Exclusive.

They'll probably get the white version if they do.

Posted by se_dude
Days back then, the whole concept of providing free updates dint exist. It was only after the competition increased that companies started doing so.

Posted by Trickois
@ Goldenface, why do you say that they will more likely get the White version? My Orange branded C905 is black, so is the Satio they provide. Only asking cos I'd love it to come to Orange, but prefer the Black variant by a huge margin..

Keep up the good work.

Richard

Posted by goldenface
Simply because IMO the white version looks far more exclusive but then again that's just my personal preference.

(did orange have an exclusive on the Satio originally?)

Well, a fair few to be fair. Not all, but a fair few.

Both of us know that it wont happen.

Do we? If you look at the short history of the iPhone, there have actually been many significant upgrades handed out to existing phones, including some that might have previously been dismissed as needing new hardware - like the Bluetooth upgrade to bring A2DP in OS3.0 for example. That same upgrade also brought MMS, voice recording, copy and paste, and a long list of other things which Apple were under no compulsion to add to their existing phones, but did.

I don't like the iPhone for a number of reasons and have been very critical of it in the past, but currently it is the benchmark that all others aspire to, its available and selling like hot cakes.

Given the fact the X10 is still in the lab with issues! I struggle to understand what statement comparing Apple rumors to Sony Ericson rumors makes?

The only benchmark it gives is sales number.

If not that, nobody would bother.

Posted by se_dude
I dont think it gave a bluetooth update.it just added the a2dp profile function in the phone which the hardware was already capable of. MMS, copy paste were already possible using 3rd party apps so it was nothing new. You guys dont get the difference between a camera update and solutions which are already do-able.

Posted by Trickois
Goldenface, thanks for clearing that up. I just wondered if you'd heard something specific. I don't think Orange have had an exclusive on any phone worth having for a while. Unless you include that Toshiba lump that they had to reduce heavily. For me the most exciting thing about them getting the phone March-April, means it must be on schedule(ish), they are almost always a couple of months behind as they Beta test themselves, or always used to. The delay in their getting the C905 was the reason I had an N82 for a little while, won't be making that mistake again in a while.

Like many here I have been quite anti Iphone for a lot of reasons, even tho I run a Mac. Mainly cos I thought it was mostly about looks. However having used a friends one over New year, it is a very user friendly UI, especially for Web-Browsing. But IMO SE are the most user-friendly of the Phone producers and X10 looks to be adding to this. I did love my P800 + P900 for the touch interface. Hopefully the Multi-Touch and 2xtap to zoom which help the Iphone's usability so much will come to X10 in time.

To all of those in here who are saying that SE has lost it's way, hasn't made a good phone for ages etc, what planet are you on? I have been SE since the K750i and apart from 6 months of torture with a buggy, laggy, power hungry N82 which Orange replaced three times because they were all known problems, I have never looked back.

I can't wait for the X10, let's at least agree it has great potential, and live with it a bit before writing it off because of vapourware?

Posted by goldenface
@Trickois

I agree somewhat.

People are quick to judge, (and some say with good reason) but the X10 is shaping up to be a fine device and does have good specs. An OS update will make a lot of people very happy but for me it isn't essential. However, looking at the following list it does add to the user experience.

Ten Reasons why Android 2.1 Kicks Ass.

The voice control look like the most impressive.

I particularly like no. 10.

Posted by goldenface
Me too!

Posted by doministry
I read the 10 reasons for Android.

Which of them are really cruical for you guys?

As I see it it's all UI centric,
giving nothing to any function of the device.

Posted by Trickois
Doministry - As per my post saying we should all cut SE and the X10 some slack, cos I think it looks pretty special.. None of them are "crucial" for me. From what we know in the rumour mill, much of what 2.0 and even 2.1 add, are already dealt with by what SE have added themselves. And yet more often than not people here seem to want to do them down for tinkering with the Soft/Firmware. However as I said, the Multi touch side of both the iPhone and other Apple products i.e. Macbook Pro, is more than a gimmick, it does genuinely add to the usability of the devic IMO of course.

Speech control, if done well could be handy, but I am happy with the voice dial on my C905 and HBH130 in the car, which is the only time I can imagine not feeling a Prat using it.

Surely having the latest version of the OS, so long as it is stable can only be a bonus. I agree tho it is certainly not a pre-requisite to me. So especially if anyone from SE is watching, fat chance..I Want this phone!

Cheers

Richard

Posted by goldenface
@doministry

Well none are really crucial to me. The way I see it is what the X10 is giving us is an Android device with which we don't have to compromise (too much) on the hardware - great camera, fast processor, great screen and a great design.

Hardware wise its ahead of the pack because buyers of competing phones can not upgrade to similar hardware specs without purchasing a whole new device.

With the X10, the hardware is already there, with a good possibility of an OS update in the future.

Updating your hardware costs money, updating your software will cost hardly anything.

IMO - even without the update, the X10 can still hold it's own

Posted by se_dude
The only way a device can destabilize the X10 from its current position is with HD recording. The X10 is the best looking Android handset yet announced. SE have done a double take by releasing the Vivaz alongside it.

Posted by goldenface
Yeah, it's definitely a good move releasing a Vivaz at around the same time.

There will soon be two high end S60 devices and more Android to accompany the X10 (we'll see which after MWC - which is creeping up on us rather quickly ).

Will there be special accessories for the X10 - the 4" screen will make watching videos easier so something similar to that Satio movie clip thing would be handy.

Posted by rss_ndrsn
X10 is definitely one of the devices to have for this year but SE has to complete the package. They have to add 720p HD recording (at 30 fps with continuous auto-focus). If they do, X10 will be untouchable.

Posted by Trickois
se_dude + Goldenface, too right.

The reason that I have had SE devices is not because I like/try to support SE per se, just that I have found them to be the best in terms of usability etc.

As I said earlier the delay of the C905 coming to Orange as my K800 was on it's last legs, drove me to an N82, prior to that I did dabble with an original RAZR. Neither of these came close to any of the SE devices I have had for eas or enjoyment of use.

The X10 is the first phone that I've been excited about in ages, and that's not because it is an SE device. It is because as far as I can see this could and should be the best overall convergent device yet. Android looks to be a really solid OS now, quickly establishing itself and improving; the camera is at least as good as my C905, widely acknowledged as being top draw and the SE UI looks to be the cherry on the cake. Hopefully the Android OS will evolve with the phone but, I am looking forward to it, straight out of the box.

Posted by se_dude
@rss- Its not possible for SE to provide HD recording in their Android offing yet. HD is a new to their portfolio and they would want one of the lesser hyped devices to get it rather than the overhyped X0.Say if the X10 has HD, who would buy the vivaz? People would rather save a few bucks and buy the X10.Also, the price will catapult and will hurt SE in the long run.

Posted by deswin93
can they add 720p video recording with firmare update??

Posted by mediar
No. It's the same as upgrading Satio from Symbian S60 to Symbian^2. It just won't happen.

Posted by shery
Well could 720p be added as a mod, like on a rooted device, like there was one for the iphone.
[ This Message was edited by: shery on 2010-01-26 20:31 ]

Posted by se_dude
Yes.if the sensor supports recording in HD.Why not.
And btw, Satio is as eligible to be updated to Symbian^2 as any handset that comes to mind.

Posted by shery
sorry my bad,the iphone never actually got the 720p recording, it was only an assumption. Btw will it be possible to use the audio jack as a tv-out? also does anyone know whether the X10 records at a constant 30fps or is it between 24 and 30fps
[ This Message was edited by: shery on 2010-01-26 20:44 ]

Posted by rss_ndrsn
To se_dude: Vivaz anD X10 are two unique devices. They appeal to different customers whether if both have HD recording. The X10 sports an elegant design but might be too big for others while Vivaz is more pocket friendly and funky. The fate of this two phones depend on how people will know about them and of course the software stability.
