Nexus One runs Android 2.1, X10 only 1.6 that doesn't support multitouch at all. How do you expect them to implement multitouch then? Half of this thread is about that. There will be no multitouch and there will be no more than 65000 colors. And unless an Android upgrade comes (not likely) this is not going to change.

Its been confirmed that there will be an update, by Rikard Skogberg

Where EXACTLY has SE officially confirmed that? Don't believe all hearsay.
All I heard from SE was "mediascape will eventually be updated for Android 2.0". That still doesn't mean X10 will receive an upgrade.

Even if it comes it will be several months from release in April, which means in July - August 2010. But I personally don't believe it will ever come given SE history with upgrades.

Mark my words: No multitouch and no more than 65000 colors on X10, at least not before August 2010.

I think it was also confirmed on the Official SE Product Blog. I'll see if I can root the post out.

Hey There,

I'm still new on this site but i find this today, i hope it have some interrest,

Link text...

It says,

"We regret to inform you that we have yet to be supplied with a definate date for the release of the Sony Ericsson X10 handset.
It is beleived to be released within the next 4-6 weeks but this will also depend on when networks choose to take the handset.
With regards to the Android version supplied, it is currently being decided whether to release it with Version 1.6 and supply an update, or wait and release it with version 2.0/2.1.
It will definately have Android 2.0/2.1 at some point."

The wallpapers and the ringtones are not enough to save SE's and X10's faith...
The x10 must be released with Andorid 2.0 and all these new features that A2.0 has ...and be presented as the best smartphone available in the market (no delays) or else... and mark my words...

SAY GOODBYE to SE in the end of this year ......

Can we please discuss some thing new, there are already 100 pages of complains about version and multitouch so please stop it.

Check the second video from makebelive: Looks like they updated the keyboard with adaptive key sizes depending on the dictionary. Looks very usable...

Really and truly the X10 has many features that Android 2.0 has, like….

Microsoft Exchange support through Moxier Sync (E-Mail, Calendar etc)

Bluetooth Push Object. Basically you can send music, pictures, videos plus more through Bluetooth. Other Android 1.6 version phones can’t do this, the X10 does.

The ability to associate your contacts in your phone with their Facebook and Twitter accounts. Timescape does all of this and more with tagging pictures of your friends in your camera album.

The camera and the software using it on the X10 is far more advance than ALL of the Android phones that are current out now or coming soon (Although the HTC Bravo could the X10 a run for it’s money, but given HTC's track record in the camera department with their phones. The X10 may still beat it).

The main thing that is going to be missing from the X10 is the multitouch support that Android 2.0 brings. There are also other things that will be missing like…

The combined inbox for all emails.

Double tap to zoom in the browser.

The improved virtual keyboard layout. (But it looks like Sony Ericsson has sorted out the virtual keyboard themselves after watching many of the X10 videos on YouTube)

There’s more details on Android 2.0 here... http://developer.android.com/[....]0-highlights.html#UserFeatures

I myself am not happy about the X10 not being on Android 2.0, but when you look at it as a whole. The X10 many features that Android 2.0 has. I think most people are not happy about the X10 not having multitouch. (Which does sucks)

If Sony Ericsson are working on a 2.0 update, I rather them work on Android 2.1. Having 5 home screens over 3 would be great. The live wallpapers and Text to voice support would also be cool to have on the X10.

There are more details on Android 2.1 here... http://developer.android.com/sdk/android-2.1.html

All in all I think the X10 is going to be a great phone, it looks great, has many cool features, it’s got a 4inch screen and the best media player/browser of all the Android phones. Sony Ericsson looks to have done a good job making this phone, they just have to make sure that the X10 launches with no delays.

It’s also the first phone in a while to make me contemplate getting rid of my iPhone.

Maybe they should have applied some mathematics and seen the loss as 40 million rather than what they quoted.

Posted by LRI
Losses or less then expected and also less than the same quarter last year, in other words, its going in the the right direction.

Posted by shery
Was just wondering, from what i have heard timescape and mediascape are just apps right, so will it be possible to port the sense ui and then add shortcuts to these apps on the homescreen?

Posted by jakester2000
Ive always been an SE fan since my T610 and then with my W800. W960 was a bit of a disappointment but now Im pinning my hopes on this phone.

If SE are truly relying on this phone to save their bacon I wish they would just come out and say it wil be Android 2.0 or that it will remain 1.6 but that they will update this sometime in 2010. Android 1.6 is hardly rubbish but it seems to give them such bad press that they should just commit to upgrading later in the year. Seriously if it makes the difference between someone choosing this phone or not then they may as well invest that little bit more time and money into ensuring that its the complete product and on par or exceeding its competitors in all main areas.

Im waiting to see this phone first hand and the final reviews of the release phone then Ill decide whether to jump ship to iphone or not. Come on , sort it out!

No brother, it's not the end of Sony Ericsson.
If you want android version 2.0 so much, then please don't bash x10 anymore.
Please look for Motorola, or Google Nexus one.

The fact is, X10 will be in 1.6

Like bro cloudtriax said.
Even SE run with 1.6, but the Nexus UI give x10 more advance and friendly user than the original one.
Beside that x10 has a lot of usefull apllication, then the original one.

Posted by titus1
You've read it guys...mark his words.

And I think even if SE is not here anymore they would still bash it.

Oh yeah...the art of bashing. And perhaps they do feel great when they do that.

Actually, I don't even care anymore about the android version in X10, since most the advantages of 2.0 are already inside X10. I'll buy it, even if they don't upgrade to the next version of android.

True http://translate.google.gr/tr[....]06,39712429,00.htm&sl=fr&tl=en

The X10 is doing more or less the same thing with its 1.6 version that the nexus one running 2.1 (except the number of desktops, the animated wall papers, and the 3D application grid).
Nexus one pros: more RAM, more accessories, frequently updated
X10 pros: more ROM, better camera, bigger screen, better media and social networks integration

Could someone that has tested the last build tell us what battery life we should expect on the X10

Personally I don't see what all the fuss is about when it comes to multitouch. I much prefer a ui that allows me to do what I need with one hand if needed to (when on the underground or a bus). Pinch to zoom is just a gimmick imo.

But remarkable words from GSMArena:
"Considering that the company has a net cash position of 620 million euro
they have no chance of surviving yet another year like this
so let's hope that, for the sake of competition,
things start to improve."

That's actually not that wrong maybe and not that optimistic either.

200 hrs standby!!!

i have an N900 now, but the speed from the japanese xperia makes me want this phone too ... sheesh i have a problem. but 200 hrs thats like a the 850i I stopped using. WoW!

who knows lets see realworldresults.

3G talk time longer than 2G talk time????
Talk time longer than standby time????
Seems odd to me!

Posted by untitled1
it was corrected now:

Talk time (2G/Edge): 270 minutes (4 hours, 30 minutes)
Talk Time (3G): 290 minutes (4 hours, 5 minutes)

We’re also seeing 230 hours standby for 2G, and and about 200 hours standby for 3G-only mode, or 300 for automatic signal mode (switches between 2G and 3G).

But 300h for automatic signal mode is also odd - 2G has 230 and 3G has 200 so it should bei between 200 and 230...

While "pinch to zoom" is almost a gimic, multi-touch can greatly increase the usability of a touch screen only device. One of the most important being a multitouch onscreen keyboard.

I took am in the market for a new phone and the X10 is amongst one of them (Sation and HTC HD2 being the other two). Even though I love to get the latest and greatest OS on it, I'ld rather have them releasing it as soon as they can with 1.6 and provide an upgrade path to 2.x.

Why? So we can actually start using it, before there are other, possibly better, phones out there. From what I've seen so far on the movies I think I would love the thing already just the way it is.

However. i've been reading here a lot and what I read a lot is: In the past SE did not provide decent upgradepaths for there phones. Nokia released an FW for the N95-1 last december. And that phone is pretty old... So, my questions are: is SE really that bad with upgrading? If they are, do you think it will be better with the X10?

Posted by hihihans
Hence it's open source can't we upgrade it self if SE doesn't. Extract drivers, flash to 2.1, install drivers, done. Or am I thinking to simple?

Posted by titus1
Enough of these 2.0/2.1 Main concern of SE for potential X10 user is a bug-free 1.6
It should perform like a (snap)dragon. If SE were able to deliver beyond everyone's expectations then that's the time to shout ECLAIR or FROYO in unison.

I think you think to simple

Even though the OS is open source (Android), there could be drivers which are written by SE which might not be open source, nor easy to use (think nVidia in the older days on Linux). The special apps as TS, MS and the Camera App might be using API's to the OS which are sligtly changed in the newer version and those apps might then break.

OTOH, there are brilliant minds out there, who might be able to do just wat we would like to happen: A Custom FW with the best of the best and the latest of the greatest. When I look at what people at XDA developers do for WiMo (especially HTC based phones), there is a smal chance this might happen for Android too. However, in my opinion the X10 should be an enormous bestseller to get people that involved...

I might think too complicated

If the X10 is going to have potential it needs to be Android 2.0+

There is also an application called OpenWatch on xda-developers which you can read full text messages, emails etc etc on a Sony Ericsson MBW-100/150 watch which works with Android 2.0+ devices, it won't work with Android 1.6.

This will be a big minus for me with the X10 if it's not Android 2.0+. There is the same application for Windows mobile available called SmartWatch this works fully with Windows mobile a long time ago.

It looks, according to the Japanese press release that their version will feature more ram - 384 as opposed to 256 for the Euro version. Not sure if it is really the case though.

Posted by chenmartin
It will be the same one. There is no different between Euro or Japan version.
Because It's Sony Ericsson, not It's SONY.
