I am still not feeling the screen. It looks dim and uncolorful. I really hope the retail version would be as bright as the Iphone 3GS and with vivid and vibrant colors.

About the multi-touch patent by Apple, does it also cover Canada or in US only? If not, would it be ok to assume that when X10 is released by Rogers it will support multi-touch?

most likely apple has a multi-touch patent in canada as well... so probably not.

There is nothing in the whitepaper. Speculation is 256MB RAM + 128MB of dedicated video RAM.

according to this vid:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bnbS8FXyf1g

there already is a version of the X10 that runs on ATT 3G bands! Which means once it is released, it may be a worldwide release at least for unlocked versions!! I SURE HOPE SO!! The camera is poorly focused but you can still see that the UI is fairly quick and responsive. I'd love to hear more information as far as the amount of dummy information to see how it effects performance of the timescape UI at least. the media scape UI seems to be very quick. Timescape seems to stutter a bit here and there.

Can't wait!

I have been following the discussions going on in the comments section at the SE product blog. As much as I want to feel optimistic, reading the posts by the sony ericsson guys posting there, its more or less certain that SE x10 will be running android 1.6 at LAUNCH.They have given reassuring statements that 'SE has full faith in its customized UI even though its running android 1.6' etc which makes it clear anyway.
Now the next two big issues are the pricing and a subsequent android 2.0 update. I really hope SE gets the pricing right as it's the factor which will decide whether the sales live up to the hype. And as far as the subsequent 2.0 update goes I don't expect SE to do us such a big favor. Simply because its too much of an effort to port the customizations to 2.0 and I dont think they'll put in that much resources once they already have our money.
I might sound a bit cynical but sadly thats the way SE works. For eg: take the case of the Satio. Satio is now the ONLY S60v5 device which doesn't have kinetic scrolling throughout its UI. Although am not much of a Nokia fan, I respect them when it comes to customer satisfaction for they indeed go the extra mile. I mean they just released an update for the now 'redundant' 5800 xpressmusic, providing much needed kinetic scrolling throughout its UI. Can you expect SE to release such a major update for a device more than a year old? When I asked for the same for the satio on the product blog, I didn't get the response I wanted to hear. Although one of the reps did agree to 'pass the message' to the higher powers'. Neither will we get an equalizer and other basic stuff which were long considered as a part of the standard feature set that modern phones necessarily come with.
Hope SE gets the pricing right this time and go that extra mile for us end users too. I wish SE has learnt its lessons from the past. Only time will tell.

Let's all take a sit and just let the X10 take it's course. Wether it will going to have a major update and will be having a reasonable price. Anyways, we're not obligued to get the X10 if it doesn't conform to our liking. And no one here actually work at SE to give a tangible info regarding X10.

Posted by se_dude
The satio is also the newest S60 phone the market barring the X. It took Nokia more than 6 months to give out an update. Its not even 3 for SE.

Posted by Karun
@se dude
Whether they take 3 or 6 months is irrelevant. The imp thing is it received a major update. Now if SE goes and updates the satio too, then no complaints. But if it doesn't, then my heart goes out to scores of satio owners who paid a hefty price for what is a great device let down by poor support.

Hey!?!?
Anyone knows what the actual/current specs for X10 screen color?
Some say its with 262,144 color with Android 2.0 & 65,536 color with 1.6?
Some even say that it can be upgraded to 16m color as the X10 hardware is able to withstand

But it is.
Nokia leisurely took months to fix the horrible user experience the 5800 had when it was initially launched, even though practically anyone who bought it were crying for fixes. SE fixed the issues that forced the CPW pullout within DAYS. On hardware that was used for the first time on the S60 platform. (OMAP3).

I have a Satio and I don't feel let down. Sure, there are things that can be improved and I'm sure those will come in some time. I'm also sure that the N97 users could use a faster processor and some more RAM but that ain't coming, is it?

Posted by frank2345babies
Omap 3 had already been used on the omnia HD or i8910 on symbian. Just thought I would point that out

Posted by synn
Really? I was under the impression that it used a platform that had Samsung's own variation of the Cortex A8 design.
I stand corrected if it's otherwise though.

That notwithstanding, the Satio update came in a lot faster than the AMR issue in the Omnia HD.

Posted by Karun
@synn
I hope you're right. Only time will tell.

Posted by Tsepz_GP
Whats the point of OMAP3 and 256mb RAM in Satio when theres hardly anything taking full advantage of it? I agree NOKIA should've used it as we know N97 wouldve been much better with it,but it seems the Satio's great HW is just a waste, except the Camera, and its poor battery realy aint helping, sounds like the N95-1 all over again, just with more RAM.
Anyway are there major differences between Android 1.6 and 2, and 2.1? And did SE ever update the XPERIA X1 to WM6.5 OR is the X2 meant to be that update? If so im sure thats EXACTLY whats going to happen here, want a Android 2.0 SE? Screw you,get the next XPERIA Android.

Look for yourself (X10 however does not seem to use vanilla 1.6, so the difference may be even smaller).

Unlike Android, WM is not a free OS and hence I'm sure some kind a license agreement with MS is required to allow such upgrade. Considering MS seldom gives anything out for free, I'm sure an upgrade to a newer WM version requires some additional payment.

Android on the other hand is a free OS with no such restrictions to my best knowledge, so I believe the chances of X10 getting Android upgrades is bigger than X1/X2 getting WM upgrades.

Just my 2 cents.

A very persistent person in a swedish forum states that release will not be before end of March due to late Qualcomm-something. He claims that he knows people in SE that worked with the development of the X10.

Posted by goldenface
Well not before the end of March would make it Q2 as Q2 begins in April and that would be disappointing.

SE did confirm that it was still on track for Q1 release just last week.

It's good to take things with a pinch of salt but in your case you got objections to everything written in here.

So, se_dude, McKinley, have Play.com sent out your X10's today?

Posted by se_dude
No.They sent me a mail saying that some lunatic named Boi...something streaked through the SE factory and crashed through all the X10s in the plant. Its therefore delayed.

Posted by anonymuser
Oh well. As long as it's out before any other Android Snapdragon phones hit the market, eh? I remember Engadget saying something about a "google phone" or something before Christmas..

Great news, thanks. I'll take your word for it.

Does anyone know if the white version will be available at the same time as the black, or will it be an operator exclusive.

Both versions will be available at the same time.

About Android 2.0, got that info today... don't take it for granted, but AFAIK SE works to update the OS...

That is good to hear!

Is SE going to add more features to X10 like 720p hd recording and playback, FM-radio and transmitter, Digital Compass and a 16 million colors screen? Please tell me yes. These, plus few more features, are what X10 needs to stay in competition and relevant in the cell phone market for months.

please tell me this is a joke right? how can you say the x10 is underspec'd. Honestly some people will never be happy. And you will always be wanting more but you wont always get everything!

Posted by se_dude
At rss, you can playback 720p videos on the X10 using a 3rd party player. It has a digital compass and about the colors, we will see. The only thing missing is 720p video recording, which is needless given that it records in WVGA and anything more would mean a guzzle of limited battery.

Posted by rss_ndrsn
The competition nowadays is very tight in which almost every company can have high tech hardware that the others have. Since SE is struggling selling phones in time owing to recession and lack of innovation, making phones that has an X-appeal and that remain popular and functional like "Iphone" for quite some time is the way to go.

The X10 can be easily be over shadowed by to be released phones. For example, 4th generation Iphone. Although no one at the moment can exactly tell the the 4G's specification, we all know and we can't deny that is going to sell like hotcakes. Also, Motorola is flooding different countries with specific android devices that are really high tech like the model to be released in Korea which supports HD recording and HDMI-out connection!

It also faces stiff competition with Droid and Nexus One. X10 is not really that advanced compared to these two. The Droid has keyboard with d-pad, has the same screen as X10 but has 5 megapixel camera and a quite slower processor. The Nexus One uses an AMOLED screen instead of TFT, has the same processor as X10 but double the RAM and same camera as Droid. The only features that X10 exceeds at from Droid and Nexus One are the camera and video recording.

I strongly believe that having those features on X10 that I mentioned on my post will make it shine despite of variety of Android devices to choose from and the Iphone. X10 has this x-factor which is hard to resist (at least for me) plus a stable OS to back it up. All SE needs to do is to load with features.

To se_dude:

In my posts that contain features wish lists, I included the digital compass twice but no one corrected me that X10 has it. Thank you for telling me. Now, just few more features and I am sold.

About the video recording, X10's processor supports it. Why not add it? It gives X10 more edge.

Te iphone is hardly a bestseller beyond the US market. The X10 is not supposed to do well there. And anyways, it will be out like 4 months before the iphone is. Also, its not double the RAM.It has 256+128 graphics RAM. The camera shall make up for the missing i guess. Also the UI shall differentiate.Given the review from electricpig, they totally love the X10 and say that it is going to be the first great phone of 2010. Now figure.

Posted by rss_ndrsn
^Really? As far as I know, Iphone is selling generally well inspite of its limited availability and steep price outside US.

The electricpig could say that but the fact remains other Android phones, especially the Droid and Nexus One will surely give the X10 run for its money, as well the upcoming Iphone 4G.

Posted by se_dude
The Nexus One is plagued with bugs. Have a look here. No wonder it isnt selling good.

A Sales flop
