is this accutate? www.www.electronista.com/arti[....]sson.android.phone.a.redeemer/ swears the model at ces was running 2.0 ... any thoughts?

Posted by steveatkoss
@Karun exactly my thoughts there...am not wrong in thinking that SE should hold hold back their leaks (from them or otherwise) to achieve a quick release to the market! and set their R&D + QA in place swiftly

Another video from CES. Rep. says its running Android 1.6.

Did you spotted how does the screen look like when you call someone? It's at 3:39-3:41. If you can't catch it, look at the picture below:

It's very simple, I'd prefer something more complicated ( at least with an animation like all other SE phones ). And the slider button at the bottom look like the normal onein Android but blue. That screen needs some tweaking.

Still needs work... but work needs time... and SE has no time...

What I find most disturbing about this is, I presume this was shot at CES 2010? the showcase for new tech.
Yet this phone has NO contacts in it, so presumably Timescape or Mediascape or whatever SE are calling their second layer UI applications will not run, so why do they not want the world to see their "improvements"?

However it seems to run native Android 1.6 quite well which is encouraging I just wish they would release the thing.

Silly when you consider what it is facing as competing devices.

Well for the general consumer I don't think they will really know what version of andriod the X10 will have and I'm pretty sure it will get an update.

Brilliant news! If they're forced to bring the availability forward because of the Nexus One I'm guessing they won't hang around when it comes to providing the OS update.

While I agree with you and also do believe that a number of people will buy it regardless but for me it is, firstly, a matter of principle in that SE said they will bring out Android handsets when version 2 is ready and, secondly, SE has fallen into a bad way of doing things and this is the continuation of it where they always have to be the followers instead of leading. That is what I loved about them and wish they could return to that philosophy.

Dups!

I totally agree with your comments... I am also unhappy with the way things are going with . My last phone which I was totally happy with was the K800i... Which is a little while ago... I really need to see improvements and some good feedback before I purchase the X10.

Cheers

Hands-on with the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 CES2010 by Christopher MacManus Sony Insider

“Honestly, one of my absolute favorite products for Sony at CES 2010 was the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10. It’s a powerful device with a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8250 processor, complete with a 4 inch capacitive touch display, 8.1 megapixel camera with LED flash and 8GB included MicroSD removable storage. However, the thing that truly stands out to me with the phone is display. It’s the type you just can’t stop looking at because it’s so lush and at four inches you can see so much. The who experience is pretty fluid 95% of the time, with occasional jitters here and there. Still, very impressive for an Android 1.6 build. We hope that it has an upgrade path to 2.1 sooner than later.” me too Christopher

On the X10, multi-touch, 16m colors and the browser I believe.
Edit: I forgot the improved virtual keyboard.

@Indiandawg

Would guess not much that end users using SEs tweeked 1.6 will notice.

Android 2.0 highlights (Android 2.1 does not add significant user features).

http://developer.android.com/sdk/android-2.0-highlights.html

Some features such as BT file transfer, exchange support and certain camera features seems to have already been backported/added to X10 by SE themself, so a more interesting question is probably how much 2.1 differs from SEs tweeked version of 1.6 (nobody realy knows).

From my peresonal perspective, available features is of more interest than how they are provided (tweeked 1.6 or upgrade to 2.1), especially since it appears some form of upgrade path to newer android versions seems to exists according to some reports. The biggest issue as I see it may be compatibility with apps specifically written for 2.x, if such apps exists that I may need (don't know).

Is the x10 full touch or thumb touch. I hate thumb touch

Posted by Indiandawg
Thank you S4k1s and Arne Anka (They both are from Sweden )
Looking at the highlights, there isn't much deference though besides multi touch and 16m colors then why there is so much of hype of Android 2.0 going on?

But someone who can explain to me what are you really missing out on x10 from Android 2.0, It would be really nice to have a clear picture

Posted by goldenface
@Indiandawg

Believe it or not I was about to ask the very same question

With an upgrade to 2.0 or 2.1 in the pipeline I don't really understand what it is that the X10 will be missing prior to an upgrade that will put it at such a disadvantage to its competitors.

If the fact that the delay is due to an upgrade to 2.0 then I would have the phone out with 1.6 and upgrade later rather than wait a few more weeks for a relatively minor upgrade that will bring no major improvements.

Just get the phone on the shelves already - thats what I say.

Play.com have brought forward their release date to 19th Feb.

Xperia X10 launch delay denied by Sony Ericsson.

Given what SE have claimed about back porting and modding the OS to provide functionality plus their insistance on adding a secondary layer to the UI which crawls already! (I predict huge performance issues when people have very large numbers of contacts) I am not so sure a customer install update will be that simple perhaps just for once Sony Ericsson might be thinking ahead?

Is it just me or is everyone who showing off this phone only care about timescape and mediascape?

I want to see other things.....browser, typing, what else is in this phone.....how it works....

I get a "deja vu" from the infamous "panels" on the X1....I nearly never use the panels.....

Will it be the same with time/media-scape?

Is there anyone who can show me something else? I guess I missed some hands-on's...

you won't believe but I love my xperia for panels. I use them a lot and I like X2 more than X10 cause it still has panels. It's like having 9 dekstops customize the way you want. I don't tweet, facebook or flickr all the time so when I'm in that mode I use panels otherwise the main desktop works charming for me

Honestly after Xperia, I feel Sony Ericsson is back

Edit: X2 has QWERTY keyboard too I so need that. The reason I never liked Iphone was I thought it's a toy phone to play around but seems like slate type of smartphones are really getting big but it ain't like having a smartphone with a QWERTY keyboard.

Android Vs Windows Mobile

Personaly I hate Windows but not Windows Mobile. It was really hard for me to understand seeing Android coming up really fast. I got to the point, what's the real scene? here are the reviews and difference between Android and Windows Mobile. May be off topic but it's important to understand why Android? before talking about it's versions

I don't know whether that article is good news or bad news. Many people were expecting a February release. That spokeswoman has reiterated the fact that Sony Ericsson has only officially announced a Q1 2010 release data, which gives them all the way until the end of March to release the X10. The X10 was never really delayed to March because Sony Ericsson never officially announced a specific release date other than Q1 2010.

@Indiandawg

Exactly like me!

Panels are really great and superb they developed it further on X2 which seems a great device!

I also use it all the time!

And I also won't exchange WM to Android....

But I guess we're offtopic

I agree that panels rule and SE is doing great with xperia. I like panels a lot. to me, X1 is faster than iphone 3G after some comparisons on the basic tasks. I do think that X2 is beautiful and the form factor is good, but since I'm using win6.5 for my X1, I think there is no point for me to change to X2 hence I'm waiting for X10 to try on Android. To me X10 currently is the best designed smartphone.

I don't think SE has problem with their software.

Since Sony Ericsson abandoned the Nexus UX name for their Android modifications because of the Google Nexus One, why don't they name it Aqua UX? That name will fits the blue abstract lines best.

Apart from the posts here and there, up to now no one from SE have even used or mentioned (officially) that they plan to have a name for their interface. In their presentations for X10 they are only speaking for Timescape and Mediascape and for nothing more.

I've seen them refer to it as UX which stands for User Experience. I'm not sure it needs another name. Most people who keep up to date with SE know what Timescape and Mediascape is now.

for real i really dont like android my brother has a g1 it has little amount of features so boring. im not hating on the x10 it has everything except a qwerty board but the only hype about this phone is timescape and mediascape nothing more. im so confused at this point wondering if i should go buy a x2 with qwerty more than enough features and software to download which is also a mini computer than to buy a phone with little or no software and small feature

Does X10's camera has WhiteBalance settings?

Posted by sealover94
This is why one more smartphone by SE will be outdated ... again...

source : Korean Times

New iphone will be out in q2 2010.

Some of the specs :

>dual core CPU
>OLED 4 inches screen
>2nd camera for video calls
>HD support

Posted by moogoo
that is simply rumor. why? because apple doesn't do leaks. never have, never will. anything written is purely rumor and speculation.

If it is true. Bravo for apple for finally improving their iphone's hardware. But...i'm not holding my breath.

Posted by Dups!
Is that the look of the new Iphone? If it is it is stunning, I love it! And if those rumoured specs are true then damn...

Posted by mediar
I don't think that IPhone concept is so stunning. I X10 and I'll buy it.

Posted by Dups!
@mediar

That is the beauty of individuality. I love SE's designs but this 'new Iphone' is (for me) way better than the X10. I may just cross over to Apple and ignore that I hate touchscreen only phones.

Posted by mediar
Actually that IPhone concept isn't new. Another image of it - http://gizmodo.com/5150375/ne[....]-of-macbook-air-and-ipod-touch .

Posted by sealover94
The image is a fan-made iphone 4.
But the specs are real..

Posted by Dups!
What a pity cause that is one stunning concept!

For the time being the X10 is still the most beautiful then.

As soon as there is a post about something that kicks X10's ass there comes Sakis trying to forbid the discussion. It is indeed relevant for this thread with all devices that stipulate the fact that X10 is way outdated the moment it is released.
