Even the design (the best thing about x10) is now outdated...
Take a look at the new ANDROID PHONE by DELL!!
Beauty!!
Posted by Domecot
I think the design is a matter of taste. I know people who like the Droid but don't like the X10. This was taken just for comparison. I still like the X10 more than Dell's phone though the Dell Android is a beauty aswell. I like it

@sealover,
what is the name of that device? It looks beautiful!

This device isn't even a phone...It's a 5" tablet. I think you cant compare it with the X10. The design is really nice although i still prefer the X10 look.

Don't get your wallets out yet - it's only a concept.

No, it's a smartphone with 5inch 800*600 OLED screen 16M colors , 5MP camera with dual led flash and it is a prototype unit (not a concept) just like X10 at this moment

Another video preview of X10 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMkaK-Vc1KU . There is nothing new and special in it, but the overview of the video says:
A quick overview of the SONY Ericsson XPERIA X10. The handset is running Android 1.6, but SONY did confirm that the X10 will be upgradeable to Android 2.1 in the future and could see additional upgrades beyond 2.1 as well.

Surprisingly that's not the last firmware. Look at the bottom menu bar - on both sides of the icons, where the sliders to open the menu are, you can see the older type - horisontal lines:
instead the new arrow:
And that prototype is laggier than some of the prototypes we have seen in the video previews lately.

sorry, but i think 4" screen is my limit. that thing is monstrous. can't slide it in your pocket. or hold it comfortably in one hand unless you've got really big hands....

What version of Android will the X10 be running? I've heard version 1.6 and won't be able to update to the latest as Sony Ericsson have played about with UI of Android.
Can anyone clarify this???
One of the most important things for me is being able to use Sony Ericsson MBW-100 or 150 with the device and it appears devices must have Android 2.0 to be able to use applications such as the SmartWatch equivalent for Andriod OpenWatch

According to Sony the OS is upgradeable to 2.0 and 2.1.

It is a prototype by Dell that will be available in 2010.
OLED multitouch 16m screen
800*600 resolution
5mp camera with dual led
5" inches screen
I love the design !
But there is more for SE: Windows 7 devices will be out in 2 months... so going from 1.6 to 2.0... is sth they had to do from the begining! Not to mention the other Android 2.0 devices....

The guy in the video is saying the release is with the 1.6 version with an upgrade during the year
He's saying mediascape & timescape run like a charm, which is very obvious anyways

I'm definitely sold on the X10. It has some good features. Sounds like a lot will appear at MWC.

After seeing that last video, I think I may be too. I just hope it comes out before the end of Q1 or else I may end up getting something else.

As other have already mentioned, it appears SE will provide Android upgrade options later on. Also, the BT stack on X10 does not appear to be the standard one provided by 1.6, but rater SE's own version and hence I doubet even with 1.6 you will face BT compatibility issues with your SE equipment.
Just my 2 cents and guesses.

IMHO the Trackball is an excellent feature Sony Ericsson have missed for the X10
As for Sony Ericsson owning patents etc, as they cant write SW worth a damn I fail to see what benefit it will give them tLets not forget they still have the X10 in the lab with issues and an out of date OS version! and wont be delivering until March if we are to belive to posts here. The X10 is a nice looker and has some great "ideas" built in but it is not ready yet and I feel NEXUS has just upped the Android ante it is here NOW!
Write back about the trackball on any smartphone after you replace them manually yourself 20x a day over your lunch hour because your other tasks for deskside support is too demanding. Literally the trackball is the most stupid implementation for navigation of a smartphone ever devised!!
Why you ask?!:
- Dust gets into the tiny rollers beneath it and NEEDs cleaning every 3mths for optimum response (like new).
- Ball wears down on the sensor and the tiny longitudinal metal rollers beneath it due to heavy friction.
- users CANNOT initiate continuos scroll because any implementation of any UI cannot determine 1 screen roll vs 1 page (continuous) roll by 1 and multiple & rapid swipes. D-Pads or Optical sensors can. Sure this may be arguementative but with Series60 3rd Edition FP1/2, Android 1.0-2.1, WinMo 6/6.5, and Blackberry OS (modified J2ME) NOBODY, not 1 developer has come up with a working solution released into the public. So I'm not crazy.
- btw, its an OLD navigational system, first used in Danger, Inc Sidekick III's back in 2005. horrible.
But each person has their tasts.
Nexus One has done nothing alone to up Android's Ante! Its Googles presence & cash behind the major subsidizing that is upping the ante!! Make NO mistake about this. 1) Google pays significantly for subsidizing the device (at a minor per unit loss, similar strategy that MS did with XBox 360)! However there is no loss because of contract or slight revenue sharing with larger providers that have the consumer numbers that are willing to try it NOW (not 1yr ago when Android was a pure JOKE). 2) Providers do NOT have to pay for the full amount of the subsidy, thus more revenue = more potential profits for them, minimal revenue sharing with Google than with iPhone.
3) Consumers are seeing so many devices from just about ALL providers except for 3 (Apple, RIM, and Nokia) and now their getting a breadth of choice of models, designs, hardware & features - apps are still homebrew like in quality and design but this will change soon & FAST.
Right now Android is delivering EVERYTHING that Symbian-Foundation has promised. The difference is THEIR delivering like yesterday, & today, and tomorrow ... not promises users have to wait for to be hardened, nor for manufactures to choose to make significant and appealing hardware for.
Watching Nokia's CES2010 presentation was like causing a highschool itch in my side wanting to punch out the bully all over again!! You know that bully or "know-it-All" that talks facts/specs all the time. Its done too often for too long and they have no credibility on their own just resourcing so much with no internal thought or commenting or action on it. Nokia seems to think their Thompson Reuters giving data facts of mobile phones in new markets, growth potential, and blah blah blah ... when simply they are NOT. They industry is pretty much sick of them and I think if users open their minds about what devices are out there they would be too. Nokia makes a small handful of S40 devices I like atm but I won't buy them for my own use, outside of curiousity.

Don't worry about it. I wouldn't touch that Dell, and neither should you. 1 device after 1.2yrs of rumors of their intent which was solid since rumors began. Their not serious enough. Take a look at their refreshed PC lineup ... other than Alienware and cheap pricing, which btw is cutting into their profits immensely, they cannot design smartphones at all.
Keep your eyes on Motorola ... the XT series just announced will surely keep Dell in their place ... in the Costco pricing of PC's with only the Alienware brand delivering real performance/design. If it wasn't for their server business (hardware, software administration tools/software/services) they'd be long finished. HP is encroaching on their turf.
I'd like to see HP go Android as well, however they too need proper internal design team.

It's just I have also noticed on the Sony Ericsson website that the MBW series of Bluetooth watches are not under as being compatible accessories with the X10 also. I hope the MBW series of watches do work with the x10.

If I'm not misstaking, it looks like none of their recent smartphones (X1, X2, Satio) are listed as compatible so I doubt it has anything to do with Android 1.6 vs. 2.0 on X10.
Would suggest you ask SE themself directly, but you probably just end up with some stupid standard answer to buy one of their other phones I would guess.

Rogers Wireless Canada seems to be very enthusiatic about the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 as they have made a "coming soon" page for the phone. Good news to the Canadian fans!
I just hope SE adds more features to X10 like built-in FM radio with RDS and FM Transmitter, Digital Compass, 720p video recording(@30fps, 120fps, fast-forward mode) and playback, a high 16 million colors and brighter LCD screen, and bigger memory. I would also like the phone to have a high quality and loud audio output through the speaker and the headset, and more options for the media player like equalizers and taking photo of from the video.
The X10 has great hardware components, but with its current specifications, I do not think SE is taking advantage of them. I hope the new SE slogan make.believe is not just for marketing purpose.

There's an interesting little insight there - I've seen some suggestions that Google's Android partners may have been aware of, or expecting the Nexus One - but the fact that SE were calling their own Android interface "Nexus" as recently as November rather disproves that.

according to some one from a local forum testing the device, there is a new software build due in two weeks. guess we'll know if theres any major changes in the phone after that. that should be one of the final builds as they would wanna get production in full swing not long after if they want to make a feb/march release.

LG GT540 (android 2 phone) packs native support for DivX and WMV video files !
Talking to the guy that show me X10 3 months ago "XPERIA X10 Mini" is probably a cheap Chinese knock-off..
We are going to have 4-5 models with Android 2.0 by q2 2010.. (including Nexus One,GT540,Motorola Drois (already out) etc.)
So SE needs to make a serious update of x10 as i was saying from the day it came out officially....(ANDROID 2.0, Multitouch screen 16m,divx/hd support etc) .... or else the p990 failure will repeat!

Relax bro,
I heard from my friends who work in SE.
They mentioned that X10 will be in Eclair, not the donut.
This is the main reason, why x10 to be delayed.

I agree. Nothing else will prevent it from becoming another one of SE's premium have-it-all handsets which failed to leave a mark.
But I simply cannot ignore the fact that they still managed to delay the launch of the sole device that can pull it out of the mess they are currently in singlehandedly. it would have been better to announce it in Feb and launch it in march but sigh....the thinktank at SE doesn't think so.
I am still going to wait for it, and buy it I will. Am just hoping they manage to iron out these small issues in the near future or else they're going down in what is now a mighty competitive market.

to me, I'm happy for SE to announce the X10 early. Why ?
let say, X10 will be announced in Feb, so with the recently announced Nexus One from google, I might end up buying that phone. coming Feb, I will blame myself to death for not waiting for the X10 that significantly beutiful comp;ared to the Nexus One.
Now, because SE announced the phone early, I will still wait for it, since I know, in terms of look, X10 is still the winner.

I'd say is now more focused today then they have been in 2009. Hopefully they'll surpass Samsung/LG in devices sold in consistent quarters from here on out.
It also seems that unification of services and features in the Playstation, Blu-Ray, and DVD lineup - and broadcast TV streaming via apps & apps will surpass their vision of what Aino first presented.
