T300 keeps checking mail even with check interval is set to off

Configured my email settings using my isp's pop3 addresses. The problem is I recieve mail when my inbox recieves mail. Is there a way I would be able to stop it from doing this? I would like to check if I have mail on my own. and not have an email message delivered to me. I'm using tmobile service.
