look in your phone connection or network settings,there should be a swith there that can lock your phone on 3G or even HSDPA mode.the iphone 3GS and most of the windows mobile phone do that.. it's somewhere in the advanced network settings but i don't know where exactly it is in ur phone..

It depends on the area and the network signal strength, on voda I get 3G+ or HSDPA on certain areas not always.
