In line with the rest of the mobile industry Phones4u are to stop the old 14 day exchange or refunds on pay as you go mobile phones. This comes in line with the rest of the industry whereby customers had a cooling off period if they were not happy. The Carphonewarehouse also has come into line with all the networks returns policy but still offers one exchange on most networks but no refunds. The only network to still offer full refunds is O2. A recent conference for Phones4u stated that they were losing money due to so many handset returns. The policy still does state a 28 day exchange if phones are faulty or refunds if a customer is mis sold anything or has coverage issues. Source from Mobile Today.

How do you mean?

They're not complying with the Sale of Goods Act if they do this.

They are complying with Sale of Goods act as they are PAYG phones not contract. Shops are not obliged to accept returns if a buyer changes their mind.

On certain networks at Carphone you can change you mind once but i bet with time that will change too. I seen the sign in one of their stores the other day when i went to top up. Vodafone let you refund or swap but it says in store you can't but i once did. I guess they are losing money with people doing this more than ever as they then can't sell them as new only second hand. Also people don't return contracts as much.

Sorry for the late reply, just because if they refuse to let you have a go on the phone prior to purchase, then they should let you take it back after 14 days if it is not as you wanted. Phones are expensive anyway

Many times I have purchased a phone & its already been opened in the shop with someone playing with it. Once I found photos taken on an old Samsung D500 I had got from Phones4BloodyU I was not happy seeing staff phtos on my new phone. If they do that then people should be able to return

I know, but they refused to let my mum have a try on a W995, so they lost out on £700 ish

I have not shopped in Phones4U for years I hate them. They once did an Orange upgrade for me and it took them over 2 weeks to get my sim card connected. And they should let people see what they are buying before hand. O2 alot of their shops have working models stuck to the walls. I like that approach.
