A bit of news that you won't like. WinMo 7 is closer than we think as in summer/autumn time so the X2 will become even more dated, I can't see it being a success at all. You won't be able to upgrade the software either. At MWC you are going to see loads of WinMo devices from everyone but Nokia, cheaper and more powerful and its a real shame that the X2 didn't get a faster processor because its going to kill it
Yes the phone is good but its too expensive when it eventually comes out and its slower than the rest. It should have come out in summer 2009. Its a total fudge up by
and its no wonder that they are in trouble. If they do decide to bring out a WinMo 7 phone, it won't be soon. If the strategy is going to be based on X2 success, you won't see much resources going into the next one Posted by doministry

Is there anything the X2 offers that you feel the need to upgrade from the X1 (if you have it)?

Yes the X2 is a decent upgrade to the X1 but, HTC will have cheaper and more powerful qwerty phones with WinMo 6.5 on sale, X2 release is still a mystery. You will say that the camera is better by
and the design etc. but WinMo 7 will be on show at MWC and the X2 won't support it. You will see a number of phones running the new OS soon, and if
do an 'X3' then that's still miles away.
My X1 is the last ever
that I will buy. I have no faith in them any more, I have seen their upcoming phone as well. I had been using a retail X2 for a few weeks and despite its best attempts, it was let down by its old processor. The X2 with 150Mhz extra would be nice but the fact is, it will be out at the same time as the next generation of phones. If you look at this thread, its only on page 17 while the X10 is at 117 which shows the interest in this phone. Buy the phone if you want but at least wait till MWC to check out the big guns. X2 would have been last year's hottest product.

Ok...
Well, there's no mystery for me in releasing a good product...
I'm not "crazy" about processors, I mean I don't feel it underpowered.
Anyway I also don't believe in WM7 devices in 1st Half of 2010.
But I may be wrong.
As for HTC - which is a leader in WM - they didn't release a single device
which would really catch my attention.
And that's a problem....
And as it's all one platform it would be easy to switch now...
But agree -
don't have a "fixed" focus right now and they often
switch they interest what is no good.
Pity they don't try to have a technological leadership in every aspect.

Finally recieved my X2 this morning and hardly got anything done at work today
I am very satisfied since a retired my P1i for the X2 and it feels much much faster and more modern - but the learning curve is going to be steep...
Connecting to our exhange servers worked directly and my DS-205 Bluetooth headset was connected without any hassle. I just have one issue and that is avaliable memory everything seems to end up in the phone memory instead of on the "Storage Card" by default.
Does anyone know how to have all your exchange mail inboxes to be stored on the memory card?
I've managed to find the settings for attachements to be stored on the memory card but not the mail itself so I don't dare to start downloading my private mail too atm.

wow, cool. Can't believe it's actually released
The mails shouldn't be a problem if the attachments are stored elsewhere, or am I terribly wrong there?

I believe email messages and attachments by default are stored in device memory. Theres an option to have the attachments stored on the memory card, but I haven't seen a similar setting for email messages. Mail is stored in a file in the root of your device called cemail.vol.

Yeah, I know. But that messages aren't too big, and it's not that the X2 has only 2MB of build in memory or something...

Now that the X2 is available for sale (In scandinavia, with local languages), i wonder if the phone already is available in English. I would apreciate if someone could help finding an online-shop that would sell the X2 (not X2a or X2i) in English. I found one online-shop that says they will get it on february 10th, but i don't want to wait soo long time for it..

It's quite striking that this phone was announced before the X10 and is actually now on the market, and yet this thread contains almost exactly 1/10th of the posts compared to the X10's equivalent. Really no surprise that the likes of Vodafone didn't bother pushing it in the end.
Windows Mobile is dead. Even WM7 is likely to be completely out of date by the time it eventually appears.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 out on Feb 1
abs-cbnNEWS.com | 01/27/2010 12:23 AM
Sony Ericsson offers special introductory price
MANILA, Philippines – The anticipation is about to end as the new Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 handset will be out in the market in just a few days.
As a treat to mobile phone enthusiasts, Sony Ericsson is offering the new handset with multimedia features at a special introductory price.
“Sign up at the nearest Sony Ericsson Experience Shop or participating dealer shop or call the Customer Service Hotline 789-1860 to reserve your own X2 and take advantage of the special introductory price when you purchase the handset from February 1- 12, 2010,” Sony Ericsson said in a press statement.
The X2 which comes in Elegant Black and Modern Silver hits the shelves in selected retail shops nationwide on 1 February. It comes with web support and exclusive travel insurance.
The special price will only be extended to customers who place a reservation for the handset prior to its commercial availability. Sony Ericsson Experience Shops and over 50 authorized dealers nationwide now accept orders for reservation.
Xperia X2 on Windows Mobile features email, multimedia and MS Office. Similar to its predecessor, the X2 has dedicated panels for business, communication, multimedia and fun. It also has a user interface that features a new signature 3D panel with 3D effects, zoom and music playback controls.
The company said the handset comes with 14 preloaded Xperia panels and 16 more to download. New panels include CNN, YouTube™, Facebook™, Skype, Google™ and other support panels.
Also new on the X2 is SlideView, which provides quick access to frequently used mobile phone activities. It has a common interface and affords quick interaction with contacts, messages, media and more. SlideView also provides an overview of missed incoming activity, notifying the user of any missed calls, emails and text messages.
Powered by QWERTY messaging, the X2 can also show MS Office presentations on the big screen with the TV out cable. Users can open and edit Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents right from the phone. The 3.2-inch high resolution touchscreen provides DVD quality viewing. Images and video can be taken with the phone’s 8.1-megapixel camera with photo light.
Meanwhile, the company has designed Xperia Services which will be manned by a specialized technical team to help users learn more about the phone’s features.

Well there's no doubt that's hype.
Read these 140 pages.
50% is about which colour to choose, or how well the media panel works.
Little, little about any real functionality, or any real improvements over past devices.
So, I was just saying: number of thread pages does not indicate quality or feature set
or the future of the platform.

Tried some new things with my X2 today (after installing a 16GB Mobile Ultra MicroSD)
1. Play a standard divx full feature movie - worked with SE Mediaplayer but not very well with MS Mediaplayer - are there different codecs installed?
2. Connected the X2 with my Ford Mondeo bluetooth handsfree API - worked excellent also with importing contacts! (this did not work with P1i)
Have got two problems that the goood X2 support team could not help me with becaue it's standard Windows phone "features":
1. When connecting a bluetooth headset all sound goes to the headset earphones - the phone is completely silent when these are connected which is not good when you have the earphones around your neck - i miss a lot of calls...
2.It is not possible to lock the phone when in a call - the lock screen button is the same as hang up!!!
Is there any workarounds these "features" that worked with the X1?

Good to hear about DivX.
As for locking - you can at least turn off screen with power button..

Can you pls tell us if there are any issues with the phone ? Is it really slow as most of previews have stated ? Any other issues ? I am considering buying this phone, however not before I read several USER reviews here!

Didn't seem that positive
Conclusion:
We were pleasantly impressed by the Xperia X1 when it rolled out, so we just could not wait to take a closer look at its successor. We had to wait for more than a year until our wish came true and as time went by, our expectations hit the ceiling. Now, when we have examined the handset in details we feel disappointed at its performance. It is merely a jazzed up version of the X1, but not a worthy successor. Aside from minor improvements to its overall design and panel interface, the Xperia X2 doesn´t offer anything new, there is nothing about it to wow us. Was it worth waiting for? No. Does it deserve your attention? Only if you are looking for a handset that is more exotic than its Windows Mobile brethren.

Well but at the same time:
Design 8.5
Display 9
Camera 8.5
Sound Quality 8
Battery 9
Connectivity 9
Multimedia 6.5
Organizer 9.5
So in the end besides "multimedia" quite a decent one.

I still cannot understand what happened with this device. It's like a neonatal death. The X2 was nice designed, had a lot of improvements (screen size, better camera and qwerty keyboard, accelerometer) but incomplete improvements. It has the good codec to read divx but doesn't have the processor, the ram to do so.
They should create a X2s (s stands for steroids) with a snapdragon processor, 512Mb Ram, at least 8Gb Rom.

I'd still HD2 to this after some of the reviews. HTC are so much further ahead of everyone else and thats what everyone else need to do

Take a look at the processor: a snapdragon at 768Mhz...
Is that possible that SE changed the processor at the last minute??
ps:Another possibility is that all french journalists smoke marihuana

1) to lock the phone press and keep pressed for 5 seconds the '' hang up button'' (there is a little key icon )
2) for the bluetooth problem,install a little program called '' JETware.Hands.Free.Extension.v1.31 ''
if you can't find it on the net p.m me and i will send it to you.
all the above solved the problems you describe om my x1. I can't guarantee that they will work with the x2 because I don't have the x2 yet (i've made a pre order but it's not available yet in greece) but give the above solutions a try.

Been following this for a while now with interest.
Hoping to get my hands on my x2 in the next couple of days. Not happy it's not coming out in the UK but what can you do?
A few people have said to me (my insurance company said it - 2 people from the same company)... it's out on feb 1st in the UK which is weird.
Any truth in this does anyone know?

Hi,
I've recently upgraded to X2 from my previous X1. I've been having a few problems when receiving SMS.
1. I like X1 whereby when I get a message, the screen lights up. Not sure if its my settings but this doesn't happen for my X2.
2. The SMS tone also only comes on for 2 - 3 seconds and then stops. It'll only come back if I do something to activate another sound file.
3. After receiving numerous SMS, the message tone will completely stop ringing when I get any further messages.
4. I've also noticed that unless I'm in the Text Menu, sometimes it doesn't pick up that I've received a new SMS.
Does anyone else have this issues with their X2?

I'm afriad all of the above issues are common to X2 owners, we're all hoping they will be addressed in the MR1 firmware update due in March.

Updated X2 gets radio and video call support
2010-02-05 07:57
Now Sony Ericsson reveals the time plan for X2 updates for the 4 comming months. New functions and enhanced usebility is promissed.
From the time Sony Ericsson started the sales of X1 and up to the launch of the successor X2 many have expected
Sony Ericsson to make it possible to update the software and hence make the phone better. When the updates failed to come buyers expressed their dissatisfaction, something the manufacturer now tries to avoid with X2.
”We’re not going to go there again” as Sony Ericsson in UK expresses it on a WEB site where the timeplan for two upcomming updates are shown.
In March will the first update (MR1) come. FM radio and video call support will then be added as new functions and faster GPS positioning is also promissed. It is also said that a number of other applications will become speedier as well. At same time WM will be upgraded to 6.5.2, a version said to be more stable then the current one 6.5.1.
In May MR2 will be released and the most important change then will be the more finger friendly version 6.5.3 of Microsoft's OS. Accrording to prehand information that has leaked out about 6.5.3, has the need to use the phone's
pen dramatically been reduced. In the current version one is more or less forced to use the pen from time to time to control the phone.

As promissed - a short pre preview after 2 day of usage:
1) bought for 500 EUR SIM free from MTel Store in Sofia, Bulgaria
2) black ones are 50 EUR cheaper then modern silver !?! (nobody knows the reason)
3) was scared at the beginning - X2 and WM were too complicated for me. UI (besides panels) wasn't really intuitive and take me a lot of time until seting up everything according to my taste, however after I gote familiar with the phone/windows I started to like it
4) once you start to work with device you almost immediatelly forget how much MHz is his CPU etc (you know - we all complained - why not snapdragon...) It's actually GREAT piece of hardware ! My friend have HTC HD2 and it's actually "slower" - I guess WM is not yet optimized quite well for the newer processor...
5) it's still buggy - crashed twice for 2 days INTENSIVE usage
6) call reception is very nice and screen/display (despite resistive) is very responsive - NOTE that you need to allign the screen from Start\\settings\\display... in order to work flawlessly...
will write again after several days playing with it

I really hope that they include an adjustable equalizer in any of those two updates. That's really a deal breaker for me!
