What's with people wanting camera flashes on phones? I find the light so much more useful - it's great as a torch, when paired with an app like htorch. Putting a flash on a phone camera is like putting a turbo on a Vespa... it'll go a bit better, but it's still a Vespa.

Here in Norway one online store sell the X2 for EUR 670,- at the same time they are selling the X1 for 587,-
That is GBP 615,- for the X2 and GBP 540 for X1. Aka USD 980,- for X2 and USD 860,- for X1.
Norway is expensive so the price should be compared to other devices. The same online store sells the
- Samsung i8910 Omnia HD for EUR 684,-
- HTC Touch Pro for EUR 676,-
- Nokia N97 for Euro 633,-
The question is. If you have 680 Euro to spend on a phone. Which one would you choose? The Omnia HD, Touch Pro, N97 or the X2?

Personally, I would buy the iPhone 3gs 16gb for £440 pay as you go and put the remaining £175 back in my pocket.
I like the x2 and a fluid user interface and fm radio are a must but I won't be holding my breath for them. Even with those the asking price is too much. So what chance does this phone really have? Many high spec phones are trying to become mass market, se wants to keep this niche. Silly.

Anyone who is is in the market for an X2 will, I am pretty sure, have either considered or even owned an Iphone. It's a great piece of kit but they are for differnet markets. A high end Winmob smart phone with a keyboard is unbeatable for anyone who wants business apps, easy transfer of documents from third parties or support for flash Web Pages at the moment.
Winmob is pretty good at other leisure tasks, and has a usable touch interface but no one denies the Iphone is better there despite a few niggles. The biggest downside is it costs more, a lot more when you load it up with a decent software suite but if you need what it does that the iphone can't then the extra cost is irrelevant. If the Iphoen does everything you need then it's the one to get. I do think there are a huge group of i-phone owners who don't realise that there is a functionality choice as well as interface.
I need the business apps and the leisure stuff is good enough for me. I find the X1 isn't perfect but it's paid for itself many times over and I'll pick up an X2 as soon as I can contract free.

Excellent XPERIA X2 performance, best JVM on a Windows Mobile device
This is just in from the Sony Ericsson Developer World Twitter feed. Apparently the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2 has the highest Jbenchmark PRO score ever, despite the performance disadvantages of its very high resolution display! That’s quite remarkable, to say the least.

For some reason I STILL love the styling of this phone and the other
W995a.
I figured to post this video for those that are worried about the smoothness of the X2's WM6.5 build.
Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2 - Hands on
btw, this was taking on "September 05, 2009". I'm sure SE had more time to refine it even further. Of note we can always change from SE's panel to SBH's and improve speed; but I'm content with what I see in this video. After posting in a few threads on my 3GS I now begin to understand perfectly what Domistry has said about seeing the full context of his posts. Oddly enough in emails this doesn't affect me, only posting on web forums. Hmm.
The retail pricing of the X2 is STILL way too high ... and soon the competition will also release an 8MP camera to compete.
PS: don't hit me for asking but can Android 2.0 be ported to this X2?

Aha, you see...
My concern was if SE will still support WM after X2, with my hope that "YES".
X2 looks good overall and also other manufacturers don't seem to deliver good form factor.

I'm not so sure about wvga video recording. But VGA @ 30fps is confirmed which is a huge plus along with TV out just like the Nokia N-Series does using the headset Jack! Something I wished for and
answered.
one specific app/ feature I'll be looking for is the ability to control music playback without changing the ui that I'm in or using a remote control! This is imperative as I'm a music buff, my soul runs on music as fuel!
Curious about in car stereo control, something ghat I think SE should have taken the lead on given their Walkman phone history.
SE will be obligTed by law to support the X2 for 12mths after release including firmware updates else they'll have another lawsuit on their hands which almost happened with the P990. Implementing winmo gives their business platform device so much more power and features than uiq could ever dream about.
HTC tp2 is a very similar platform form factor and can match the X2 but I loathe it's styling, thickness, and screen angle which really doesn't assist typing if it's to mimic a laptop at almost an 80degree angle.

im going to add to the keyboard arguement.
i have tried using my g/fs htc magic. with virtual keyboard and i hate it. hate everything about it. the predictive is tosh. and i found myself argueing with it. and i think last night i actually spent a minute getting one word done (so i jsut sent that one word
i used to have a m600. which i loved the keyboard was a tad fidly as it was on a standard keypad layout. but life was easy. i upgraded to the w960 and can use the keypad. but hate the predictive input. and find if i turn it off it takes too long to type.
so am looking forward to going back to a full qwerty next month (provided i can get it cheap with my upgrade)

TO be honest the HTC Magic has a horrible OS driven virtual keyboard and text prediction. Thanks to Android 1.6.
I'll be looking forward to your reviews guys on Xperia X2 ... cause it will not be offered on contract here in Canada for some time if at all - and the price will be expensive. Again I'm not saying that I'll purchase it - although I love the design very much - its going to be close to impossible for me to leave my iPhone due to the ecosystem around it.

My review of X2:
Excellent phone.
My recommendation:
Let the guys from XDA Developers port the X2 ROM to the X1. Saves you a whole load of money. There is nothing that suggests that the X2 is faster than the X1 if both were running the same ROM.

No I do not but have spent some quality time with it. It beats X1 hands down but when you do too many things it lags and its a real shame because they could have easily put a better processor, not saying 1Ghz but just a bit more would kick ass. My personal issue is that I will not pay so much money for +0.2 inches on the screen, 8MP camera and an accelerometer. The processor would have made it worth it. I'm sure i'll eventually get one but it have to be a bargain.

Well, come to think of it, as much as I really like the flush screen and keyboard of the X2, think I'll probably end up forgoing it, given that those (plus the accelerometer) ain't exactly a really good reason for me to be getting that to replace my X1. Furthermore, I'm intending to get the X10 too, to replace my ancient K800. So well, probably will just wait for a X3, that is if SE still continues with Windows Mobile...

My thoughts exactly, I would have upgraded from my X1 for a 3.5"+ screen or a faster processor, and definitely for both. But I see the X2 as barely an incremental upgrade from the X1. I'm still hoping for a new Xperia with at least a 3.5" screen and faster processor with a physical keyboard. Is there any hope for SE releasing a phone like this, heck I'd even switch over to Android for a phone like that? As it is, I might be tempted by a Motorola Milestone with US 3G, although I hear the keyboard is terrible.

What is with so many people complaining about .3" of screen size??!??? Is that not 7.6mm? Unless my math is incorrect that is not much screen real-estate.
Is it NOT more important for the resolution?! From 3.2 - 3.5 is NOT much of a difference but affects hardware layout greatly enough to be significant in changing the design & esthetics.
So many people wanted 4" but now with all the hardware & choice of software on the HTC HD2 most users just don't want it any longer.
Screen resolution is MUCH better than gaining .3" of screen real-estate.

It really is a matter of relative experience. My point was that going from the 3" screen of the X1 to a 3.2" screen was not sufficient reason to upgrade for me, after all, if 7.6mm is not significant then 5mm is even less so. On the other hand, going to 3.5" (an increase of 0.5", 12.7mm, over the X1) is significant and would be a reason to upgrade. I would agree with you that if the X1 was 3.2" and the X2 was 3.5" I would also say that was not reason enough to upgrade. For many, the camera of the X2 will be reason enough, for me, it is not-productivity is more important and I can be more productive with a larger screen and faster processor. In the absence of a significant (or any) increase in screen size or processor speed I can not justify the expense of upgrading. Also, I don't think there is any difference between the screen resolutions of the X1 and the X2, so how is that a selling point?
If you find enough reasons to upgrade to the X2 then that's great, and I hope you enjoy it. I'll be sitting this round out though.

Will there be a NAM version of it with AT&T 3G? It's a dream but if SE can get their flagship phones like Xperia's as subsidized phones, they might get lot of attention in US. Except the forum freaks, everyone else in US only thing Apple, Motorola, Samsung, LG, and HTC as phone makers. Common person almost forgot about SE and Nokia who once ruled the mobile space.

Ah, then I mis-read your post then. I thought the X2 was 3.5" screen, but I'm wrong.
For sitting this one out, you may have the upper hand ... I figure by mid-2010 capacitive touch will be an industry standard in ALL platforms and pen-based screen input will be refined for capacitive screens. Also you'll get to enjoy a much faster cpu-based chipset optimizing battery life and resource intensive apps like sql-based, vpn based, and remote apps; not to mention WinMo7 which I HOPE is supported by Win7's RDG and WinServer08 R2's DirectConnection/Access.
Who knows, maybe we'll have chipsets that support VMWare's proposed mobile OS virtualization ... imagine buying 1 phone with WinMo and running iPhone_OS, UbuntuMID, and Android on it in full hardware supported virtualization without flashing out the original rom.

Some news for all of you...
MS release Office Mobile 10 Beta, confirm WinMo 7 for March 2010
That's right ... SharePoint access along with updated Mobile Office on your WM smartphone this Q1, 2010 - new devices to ship with it Q3. Oh and for the BETA WM Office (M.O.) 2010 you can download it NOW if you have a a WM smartphone
So it's VERY possible that the XDA hackers will have WM7 for X2 next March 2010 (don't expect it any sooner). Possibly in Summer or fall 2010 the X3 will be announced.
IF the X1 can run WM Office (M.O.)2010 Beta and do so smoothly even with WM6/6.5 then its old status and value will be nice for those of us that juts wanna try or play with a WM device; even if just for education purposes.
http://www.gsmarena.com/ms_re[....]7_for_march_2010-news-1270.php
Enjoy ppl.
