Okay..so sennheiser is the best brand for you? xD.

And if sennheiser, which model is the best?
[ This Message was edited by: loveynn on 2009-12-09 10:38 ]

Posted by Hiron
No

For me, it is Audio Technica (esp ATH-AD2000) and Grado (esp GS1000i)

Just google that

Hiron

Posted by loveynn
Sorry I'm using iPod touch so it's very hard for me to search. Erm are those 2 war buds earphone? I don't want those big big ones xD

Posted by mrjulius
skull candy for fashion

Posted by Hiron
Sorry, both of them is burger-sized headpphones

For in-ear monitor headphones like HPM-77, I recommend Sennheiser CX-Series. Here is the link. Or you could reconsider the high end such as Sennheiser IE-8 like this. Just fit it with your budget

Hiron

Posted by loveynn
Wow that IE 8 is so..expensive xD

I'm thinking whether wanna buy CX 400 II or CX 300 II or altec lansing UHP 326 or UHP 606.

Skull candy quality isn't that good right..

What you think about Shure?

Posted by Hiron
i never tried shure and skull candy so cant comment about the quality. sorry about that

Btw, all audiophile acoustic are developed using hpm-85 which is not accurate anymore due to its age.. I would develop next version (vX2) using Senn cx-300.. Wait a few days

But too bad I'm not at home can't try your new acoustic T.T

Among these few

CX 400 II , CX 300 II , altec lansing UHP 326 , UHP 606

which one you suggest?

Posted by idumbakumar
But what about CX-180. I'm using it its good than HPM77. And its cheaper than other cx-200 or 300. And lighter. Also we have creative EP630. Which is almost has the better audio quality as cx-180.

Posted by mrjulius
skulcandy is good to
but not as good as altec and Sennheiser

Posted by Hiron
CX-180 is good and also cheaper...

But if you want better sound, try CX 400 II, the price difference is worth to afford

Altec lansing is good for speakers but it disappointed me once in headset...

Btw, vX2 is ready but I'm still testing it right now

Here's my top 5 in-ear headphones (under 300$)

#1 - Westone UM2 (from 269$ to 299$ on ebay)
Dual balanced armature driver(one for lows and other to mids and highs.Have a passive crossover) provide amazing low frequency response and rich articulate highs and mids.
Reduce up to -25dB of ambient noise, very confortable and durable.
Recommended for all styles of music.

#2 - Phonak Audéo PFE (from 139$ to 160$ on ebay)
Dynamic driver with explendid mids and crystal clear highs (for a "simple" driver) with precise and nice bass(not so deep as UM2).Very,very,very comfortable!
Recommended to classical music, jazz,Rock(heavy metal principally),blues and vocals.

#3 - Monster Turbine (from 139$ to 149$ on ebay)
Dynamic driver with all metal construction will provide a rich sound experience.Have a huge bass without any distortion, excellent mids and clear highs.
Recommended to hip-hop,R'nB,rap,pop,techno and elctronic music.

#4 - Ultimate Ears Super.fi 5EB (from 140$ to 190$ on ebay)
With one balanced armature unit, one dynamic driver exclusively for lows and up to -26dB of ambient noise, this phone is one of the best in bass segment.
With good mids and highs too, this headphone is recommended for hip-hop,electronic music(all styles) and reggae.

#5 - Shure SE115 (from 68$ to 99$ on ebay)
A cheap and good solution for who someday desired a shure!
With a single balanced armature (bass calibrated) this headphones provides a pleasant sound with beefy bass, satisfactory mids and highs. The sound isn't so detailed as Phonak or UM2 but for this price is the best choice,i think.
Recommended for Reggae,rap,hip-hop and electronic music.

Obs.: This is just a hint, cheers!

Shure se115 or sennheiser cx 400 II better? Their price are almost the same..

Posted by Junz
when using same headset, drivers, and equalizer does a cyber-shot phone get same sound quality with walkman phone?

But what about CX-180. I'm using it its good than HPM77. And its cheaper than other cx-200 or 300. And lighter. Also we have creative EP630. Which is almost has the better audio quality as cx-180

so sennheiser CX-180 better than HPM-77?

Shure have better acoustic isolation and frequency response.

Posted by Hiron
After reading some reviews, it seems that Shure SE115 has better isolation which is helpful in crowded area. About technical data:
- Shure has 80 years experience, while Sennheiser only has 60 years experience
- With a same impedance (16ohm), SE115 has freq range from 22Hz – 17.5kHz while Sennheiser has more freq range which is 17Hz - 22.0kHz
- Sennheiser seems to have a louder sound (115 dB SPL/mW) compared with Shure (105 dB SPL/mW)

Shure SE-115 Review.

Sennheiser CX-400 II Review.

If you choose sennheiser, make sure to buy CX-400 II Precision instead of CX-400 II Game...

Both of these headphones should satisfy your needs.. But if you buy and the quality is disappointing, you might have a fake one... Make sure to buy your headphones from a reliable store

Thanks for your review, luhccas

Btw, vX2 is up

Thanks Hiron for your Even Better xV2 Audiophiles.

I Just love your work and dedication.

I always use amplified version as I guess they are according to my needs.
But it seems in this latest one amplified version sound is a little unbalanced as I guess it is a bit louder in right ear.
I have C510 and I hear in Sennheizer CX180.

Thanks.

@Hiron,a suggestion.
Make 2 versions of .csv files, one for non-clear bass and that present in your pack.

Hi there again, here is my UIQ3 tutorial for the sound mod!

***************************************
AudioPhile Premium HD Acoustics for -UIQ3- Phones

Programs needed on the phone:

- CapsSwitch AND
- Swiss Manager (goggle them, download them, install on the phone) AND
- se_sound_patcher_full (google again, and download on the computer)

Now let’s do the work:

1) Unlock access to system folders (use CapsSwitch - capabilites off)
2) Copy file "mmmgmtserver.exe" from 'Z:\\sys\\bin' (ROM drive) to 'C:\\sys\\bin\' (use SwissMgr, show system folders)
3) Copy the file 'Z:\\sys\\bin\\M3SAudioPolicyMgr.dll' from your phone to computer
4) Run se_sound_patcher_full, select the file 'M3SAudioPolicyMgr.dll' copied from the phone and press "Install"
5) Copy the patched file 'M3SAudioPolicyMgr.dll' back to your phone to the dir 'C:\\sys\\bin\\’
6) Copy all the contents of 'Z:\\private\\10200B19\\AATFiles' to ‘C:\\private\\10200B19\\AATFiles’
7) Now take the downloaded Audiophile premium HD acoustics... We need the folder 'wbxml to ifs-settings-acoustic'. Change all the files’ extension to '.aat' !
(We do NOT need the following files: ‘line_out.aat’, and ‘PHF_4_play.aat’)
8 ) Move them to the directory 'C:\\private\\10200B19\\AATFiles\' and confirm replace!
9) Restart your phone.
10) Enjoy.

Re- and uninstall:

Do delete the files you need to use the ‘cut and paste’ method using Swiss Manager, deletion will not work! Just cut the newly created AATFiles folder and paste it to an arbitrary non system folder (for example put it simply on D:\\) . From that place you will be able to delete the files, as they no longer will be in use. Do the same with the patched .dll file and the .exe file as well.

To reinstall the files, or update to a newer version, use the same method as above, except not with the whole folder, but just with the Audiophile .aat files. You do not need to restart the phone!

********************

Greetings
Falconer

@Rajneesh17,
try to restart your phone and use a different cable and headphone...

If the sound is not balanced it is likely that there is a problem in a fastport connection (could be loose etc)... I have experience it once and played a bit with a fastport

@FalconerHUN,
Thanks for the tutorial! Will add it in the readme in the next version...

@loveynn,
Err... I don't really know about Altec in terms of headphones, really

@luhccas-c905,
Here is some things that I know. Correct me if I wrong:
1. ClearAudio phones parse vol_cb_on*.csv and vol_eq_off.csv. vol_emp_eq_on.csv doesn't affect them.

2. Standard MegaBass phones parse vol_emp_eq_on.csv and vol_eq_off.csv. vol_cb_on*.csv doesn't affect them.

3. I copied ClearBass value from vol_cb_on*.csv to vol_emp_eq_on.csv and the bass in Standard MegaBass phones becomes much better now

So based on this, I thought we doesn't need to separate it anymore?

Er..i listen to every music xD

Anyways i got an ipod touch. The sound quality is quite disappointing.

Is there anyway to make it better like modding it? xD

Posted by Luhccas-U1a
@Hiron let me explain what i mean
i'll take one line to use as example:
0;-14;14;1989;0;6B231A90;7FFF67D3;0;0;4;07FF;0;X;4D;4D;4D;4D;7F;4D;4D;4D
The "X" with 0 value will not be recognized as it should be.
The rest of the line is for volume steps(in megabass phones only).
But this just will work if the "X" are 1,understand?
Turning off that steps the phone will just recognize the dB gain (in this case 14,in the third column).
Unfortunately this works like that
Thanks and excellent work,like always!.

I've tried v6.1 Crystalizer Booster..this realy great acoustic driver...

Posted by Sator1973
Is this mod anything like SoundModLite for UIQ3? If yes, I can´t wait to install it on Satio. A step by step howto would be nice to place here.

Posted by mallaccra
hi hiron
i've uploaded the necessary .csv and .wbxml (amplified) version into my W995 and tested it using my ancient mdr-023 , hpm-70, hpm-78 and mh-100, woww the volume is louder, sound is cleaner and clearer no hissing and the bass/treble output is well noticeable (using preset setting). overall the vx2 is a superb acoustic driver and its better than the stock driver...

argh it's time to get one of those good Hi-Fi Audiophile Headphones

Posted by mrjulius
this is really great driver

Posted by Hiron
@falconerhun,
thanks for your tutorial. It will be added in the next version

@loveynn,
Regarding iPod touch volume modding, have you tried this one? It's for iPhone, though...

I thought the X value that you mention controls the DRC boost? 0 means turned off and 1 means boosted?

The algorithm that I would try to explain below only valid for a phones that doesn't has Clear Audio experience (but has csv)...

0;-14;14;1989;0;6B231A90;7FFF67D3;0;0;4;07FF;0;0;4D;4D;4D;4D;7F;4D;4D;4D

The second column (-14 value) is a master preamp volume control (in dB). 0 means the volume had been untouched, while -14 means that the volume is lowered by 14dB... It needed to makes an equalizer doesn't sound distorted.

The third column (+14 value) means a maximum equalizer gain that is permitted. Set it to 0 and turn on the phone, set to MegaBass and you would not notice any difference compared with Flat equalizer I set it to +14dB since MegaBass is 14 0 0 0 3. However, max 3 bar in Clear Audio phones is +9dB (3dB in each bar).

If you set it to +5 and you use max 8 bar in your phone, it will be ignored and +5dB will be used instead.

That's why I set 2nd and 3rd column to -14 and +14, because if it is -10 and +14 and you set MegaBass eq, the volume will clip to +4dB and distortion happens. (clipping happens when the sound signals comes above 0dB) That is the same way when you set a preamp eq in your music player to prevent distortion

Now about the X value... 0 means untouched...
But 1 means it will be DRC boosted by 6dB...

Why 6dB?
Look at HK TX value from original phf_2_play.wbxml in W995:

There are 6 region, from lowest to highest frequency gain:
86 - 80 = 6
B6 - B0 = 6
CA - C4 = 6
D4 - CE = 6
DE - D8 = 6
FD - F7 = 6

So if you want it to be +8dB instead of +6dB, the syntax of HK TX would be:
80 88 B0 B8 C4 CC CE D6 D8 F0 F7 FF (we just raised the upper value by +2)

To prove it, use these two lines in csv (bolded part is the only differences):
0;-14;14;7FFF;0;0;0;0;0;0;7FFF;0;0;53;52;52;52;7F;4F;54;55
0;-14;14;7FFF;0;0;0;0;0;0;7FFF;0;1;53;52;52;52;7F;4F;54;55

And you will notice that seconds line is 6dB louder but also distortion happens because of clipping.
So we need to lower the preamp to prevent it. Both of these lines have the same loudness:
0;-14;14;7FFF;0;0;0;0;0;0;7FFF;0;0;53;52;52;52;7F;4F;54;55
0;-20;14;7FFF;0;0;0;0;0;0;7FFF;0;1;53;52;52;52;7F;4F;54;55

That's it. -20 + 14 = -6dB and it leaves the rooms for DRC boost by 6dB...

That's all. Since I want to leave the sound as it is, I turned off the DRC booster

Remember, all of this explanation only valid for non Clear-Audio phones. Clear Audio phones has an additional dynamic volume control and 63-125Hz freq boost instead of only 63Hz in non Clear Audio phones. Maybe later I will explain it

Feel free to correct me if I was wrong

i'll try this one when my p1i got fix!

Posted by FalconerHUN
I've just tested v9.x and VX2, and I have to say that something totally went wrong there. Basically it sounds like an entire range of sound is missing, somewhere around the low-midtones. It might be good for some tracks, but it's totally weird. /and I'm not the first one to say that /
Someone mentioned v6.1, well, that doesn't have this kind of problems, sounds a lot better.

Plus, I found a really good track for any acoustic driver: "Star Wars - Main Theme". It has just everything, a good bass, complex mids, highs, lot of various instruments... You can really hear after just seconds if there is something wrong.
(Tested with W960, HPM-70, and Sennheiser CX500.)

By the way, is there a tutorial for editing these acoustic files?
I also figured that the stock W960 acoustics is pretty good with the CX500 (not dynamic enough w/ HPM-70 though, so for that crystallity stuff is better, or the W715 acoustics) but needs a little more punch in the lows and some reduction in the mid-highs.

Happy new year!

Posted by FalconerHUN
Forgot something:
It'd be cool if the megabass was edited so it wouldn't amplify the highs. Is there any way to do that?

Posted by mallaccra
i downloaded the soundtrack of Starwars Trilogy and played the Star Wars - Main Theme on my W995 using VX2 driver with MH100+HPM78 and woww the sound output is superb and perfectly blend just like listening to live philharmonic orchestra....seriously

Posted by lubeto_07
Hi guis i have ported the vX2 acoustic mod to my w902 and i was flattered by the volume(xtreme) but i noticed some kind distortion there is a bit of hissing and when on highest volume on some songs the bass is too much for the headphones to handle (HPM-77) so they begin to scramble the sound. Any suggestions...

can "VX2" be used with K850i..?

you are right its really good, perfect audio output.. nothing more nothing less...

I really don't understand... Is there such a big difference between phones, that one drive is awesome with one but totally crap with the other? Sounds so weird to me... Using with UIQ3 the Vx2 really is missing something.

Hi, have Cyber-shot C702 same audio hardware as Walkman W995? When I use your accoustic driver, will be quality of sound same as in w995?

Posted by groovepeppy
'they say' both phone has different chip, one is for imaging and the other for music.
don't know will it be the same as W-series but it will be more than just better if you put these acoustic.

MegaBass default is 14 0 0 0 3... We can edit it through patching to something like 14 0 0 0 0, but I'm not sure how to do it in UIQ3 phone...

Maybe you can do something to remove manual eq +8 and -8 limitation

I'm sorry I hadn't test UIQ3 phones yet so I didn't know what had happened there... Basically it's Symbian and may behave differently (in sound) compared with SE proprietary OS

Could you tell me the last version of Audiophile that works right in your phone?

It will not sounds the same as both of them have different eq bands... But I'm trying to make C702 sounds more identical to w995

On 2010-01-02 10:21:24, lubeto_07 wrote:

Bar 6 of 8 in my acoustic has the same volume as max bar (8 of 8 ) in original... So if you use my acoustic, I don't recommend to listen above 6 bar because bar 7 and 8 is amplified even more, so therefore you may notice a hissing

HPM-77 can't handle high output... It's hardware limitation... Try some high-end Sennheiser headphones. It can handle the bass

Hiron: eq bands are different... Hmm when I was buying this phone, I thought that audio hw have all SE same and different is only in software. The problem is I don't know any www pages about hardware in SE phones to compare different models.

Posted by Hiron
yes eq bands from standard phones is 5-band, while ClearAudio has 6-bands eq with different frequencies... It is a software side. Could be modified through vkp patching
