Hi, me again with email issues! Can send and receive but...

I have setup email on my W995 and C905 using the built in email client, and I can now send and receive emails, however I have message that comes up each time I try to update my inbox. The message is "Server not certified... Continue with the secure connection?" If I click accept then it updates my inbox. If I click no it fails and cannot find server.

It does this if I am connecting over wi fi or using the cellular network.

Sony Erricson say that the live.co.uk certificates for the email servers are not added on the phone and this is why it is asking me to continue with the secure connection because they are not approved. They say there is nothing they can do as they only include a few on the phone and that I would have to add them myself, however my handset doesnt have this option...

I found a similar topic on the following link but this was for Gmail however I do believe its the same process, however I cannot find the certificate I need...

http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=14106

Can you tell me where I can get the certificates from and what they are called.

I have been told I can get them in internet options on my laptop by going to certificates, but I dont know which one to look for as there is nothing that mentions any certificates issued to live.co.uk. If there was I am told I can copy them to the phone and it should stop the message coming up.

Please help this is becoming very frustrating as If I want the phone to connect every half an hour to update my inbox I have to manually press the continue option on the message in order to get my emails. The same happens when sending emails.

I have tried setting it up on a Nokia phone and it works fine.

I have also added my Gmail account which works fine and doesnt bring this message up so the certifates must be added but even looking in the phone for the gmail ones I cannot see the certificates.

Please help.

Righteo pal. It's been a while since you posted this question so I hope I'm not wasting my time
I literally JUST got my email working on my w995, had the same issues as you and didnt really want to have to take my phone out every 2 hours to recieve any new mail. Before I start bear in mind that it took me about 2 months to figure all this shizzle out, so if it turns out that you have a new phone or aren't really that bothered anymore, I will be pissed. :@

I am going to tell you exactly how I did it step by step; I am assuming that you use a live.com / live.co.uk email address, and that you have a computer with windows xp ( or newer ) and that you can read. If not dont bother continuing.

1, open up windows internet explorer, go to the help section of internet explorer. Then type 'certificates' into the help search bar. There should be a few headings now for you to chose from. You need to click on the 'How can I see my certificates' now you should be able to click on 'open certificate manager'.

2, This should then open the certificate manager (if you are not the administrator on that particular pc you will need to obtain the password from whoever the administrator is.) Then click on the 'Trusted Root Certificate Authorities' then on 'certificates' which appears to the right. Now then a list of about 30 different certificated which are all installed on your pc will appear, the one I used and therefore the one for live.com/live.co.uk accounts is the 'GTE CyberTrust Global Root' (If this isnt there then harsh luck; maybe try them all)

3, Now double click this certificate and click on the 'details' tab. Click 'copy to file'

4, click next, change the type to the 'base-64' one, next again. It doesnt matter what you name it as long as you remeber where you save it.

5, You now have the correct certificate ( I hope ) basically all you now do is copy it to your phone's memory via usb (If you have bluetooth on you laptop/pc then use that you won't need the next step, once the file as sent it should automatically ask you if you want to install it, click yes (OBV) and your phone should restart, check if it has worked, try checking your mail)

6, Now if you (like me) are too poor to have built in bluetooth then there is another way; simply copy the file to your phone memory through a usb cable. Then send the file to another phone with bluetooth and send it straight back to your phone. ( if you just copy it through usb the phone doesnt recognise it for some reason however bluetoothing it between phones will cause the phone to install it.)

Hope this helped (If not, bad luck)

Hey there

Thanks for your reply but I ditched the phone in August 2009 as I had enough of its poor features... I got an Iphone instead this is much better.

I gave up on Sony Erricson!

Thank you anyway
