Nokia 5530 XpressMusic touches all the right notes for music lovers
June 15, 2009
Espoo, Finland - Nokia today introduced the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic, a compact XpressMusic device that uses a touch interface for accessing people and content on the brilliantly clear homescreen. The 'scrolling' Contacts Bar provides direct access to 20 people and their latest conversations and media updates. The homescreen also features one touch shortcuts to content and popular social networks, like Facebook and MySpace. The Nokia 5530 XpressMusic follows in the footsteps of the top-rated Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, expanding the touch XpressMusic phone range with a youthful device that has a solid stainless steel frame finish and comes in five vivid colors.
At the core of the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic is the music and entertainment experience. It is an ideal device for those who wish to quickly and easily access, share and mix a huge selection of media. In true XpressMusic form, the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic is a great music player with 27 hours of playback time, excellent audio quality and a 4 GB memory card for storing music and other media. Videos, either self made or from social media sites such as Youtube and Facebook can be enjoyed on the brilliantly clear 2.9 inch widescreen display. New music can be purchased through the Nokia Music Store, either directly on the phone or through a PC. The music collection is easily managed and can be synchronized with the PC using the Nokia Music for PC application. Calls and music can be conveniently managed and listened to with the Nokia Stereo Headset WH-205 with tangle-free cable.
The innovative 'people carousel' features thumbnail images of up to 20 close friends and provides easy access to them and their communications history including emails, phone calls, photos or other social media updates. The Nokia 5530 XpressMusic also features the pop-up Media Bar so music, photos, videos, Internet and on-line sharing applications such as Ovi Share, Flickr and VOX are just a touch away.
The Nokia 5530 XpressMusic supports GSM/EDGE networks and also offers fast and affordable access to internet services via the integrated wireless LAN over the ubiquitous wireless networks. Nokia is collaborating with Boingo and offers three months of free Internet access in select markets. Boingo works with hundreds of hotspot operators around the world in familiar locations such as airports, hotels, coffee shops and restaurants.
The Nokia 5530 XpressMusic is expected to begin shipping in the third quarter of 2009 at an estimated retail price of EUR 199 before taxes and subsidies.

No 3g. Phail.
Posted by kwabs2006
This would have been perfect with 3g!! still luv it tho

Looks a heck of a lot better than the 5800, just a shame it's a backstep in other areas.

So why the Wii colors? Also no 3G? Wow thats a given for phones these days and all. Wow.

But as an edge phone it will edge the Walkman brand off the cliff into the pit of no return.

It's a good looking phone and is ahead of anything SE have out there at the moment, even without 3G. Presumably this will be cheaper than the 5800, which is plenty cheap already - Nokia are doing the right thing here and knocking out touch S60 phones on the cheap, while SE drags its heels over Satio.. I'm no Nokia fan, nor an S60 fan either, but I think this is a smart strategy right now.
If I was in market for something like this or the W995 say, I'd choose this in a blink. It's smarter, and probably cheaper too.

Here is India ..N5800 is selling at 18K ...so this would be in the 15K range i think ...that would be a major plus for this phone...
But my friend who had a 5800 sold it few days back because of some recurring software and hardware problems...which makes me a little skeptical of nokia's s60 phones
Posted by se_dude
yea i am sure people would love this phone. 2.9 inches without a keypad. Smsing is gonna be fun. Really, i am not ebing sarcastic. And ofcos, its better than any SE phone out there. Its even better than the iphone sans the resistive screen.
Posted by jack00
the question is if the providers are going to pick it up, cause they want to sell data services.
at least in austria i see no provider who would care about it
(they even refused to sell the iphone without 3G)

Hmmm, nah, the w995 still does it for me...
I'm loving the placement of the stereo speakers though, if that's what they are...

Yeah - because this is the first phone not to have a keypad, right? Come on - it may still be a preference for some, but a keypad is not a necessity in this day and age, SMS or not.
Would you make the same jibe about the Satio I wonder?
Really, i am not ebing sarcastic. And ofcos, its better than any SE phone out there. Its even better than the iphone sans the resistive screen.
You just sound bitter, and a little bit silly, if you don't mind me saying.

LG have a monopoly on silver coloured touchscreen phones, now? You're overlolling.

Satio is 3.5 inches if I am not wrong.
Lol. Even the buttons are the same.

Sry se_dude, but in my eyes the LG Arena is one of the uglies phones ever made. But maybe we don't look at designs the same way. While I notice the details and the whole design u might just be seeing a rectangle with a big display, no buttons and slightly curved edges...
If that's so then most of todays TS-smart phones are direct rip offs of the older ones. We can go back as long as P800 or the Handspring Treo - but why stop here? We can do better than that, any (and I do mean that literally) pocket pc or hand held computer from the past 15 years (Palm/Vaio/Handspring/HP/Compaq)...
Posted by NightBlade
This and the LG Arena do look very similar, but, I can't believe I'm saying this, I prefer the Nokia.
Posted by Boinng
The earpiece and microphone grills are the most striking part of the Nokia design, and they aren't even hinted at in the LG. Ok, so aside from that (and the different proportions) they're both touchscreen phones with a silver frame - they aren't the first and they won't be the last, who cares?
As for the buttons - they're standard issue S60 Touch, as found on every other S60 Touch phone, including the 5800 released before the Arena.
I can't really believe I'm posting this since I really don't like Nokia and I think S60 Touch is a horribly flawed platform - but seeing the ridiculous SE fanboy reaction to a phone which for all its flaws is head and shoulders above anything SE are doing right now, I feel compelled to defend it..
Posted by S4k1s
I still fail to see the similarities...

Goodness me, what twins they are! Not!
Posted by se_dude
Yea right. Compare them when of the same color and then see.
Anyways, since SE dont have a touch phone, comparing this to anything that SE has in its portfolio can obviously be done by idiots who have no idea of market segmentation.

Yep, we'll see two different designs that happen to be in the same colour!

Phone's don't get segmented by their touch sensititivity, they get segmented on price, appeal, and function, pretty much on that order. The idea that no potential customer of a Walkman phone might be tempted by this because it's a touch phone, and therefore doesn't fall into the narrow Walkman market niche carved out by SE to date, is fanboy naivite at its very best.

Theres a reason why god made a brain for each and every person walking on road. And that is to have their own choices and their opinions on things. Now if you think yourself to be god and can assess the common man's opinion to little or no anomalies, i have nothing to say. lets just see how this goes rather being fanatical about anything thats not SE.

It is your right to have the opinion that tomatoes and potatoes are the same or that zebras and horses are the same or that the colors deep fuchsia and purple are the same, but you having those opinions don't make them the same, end of story.

With respect, everytime i read a post of yours its YOU who defends se to the hilt, and slate any other manufacturers efforts..you really can't see beyond anything se. If that isn't blatant fanboyism i don't know what is. Re read some of your posts. You come across as a hater of anything that isn't se. So don't mention the word fanatical..thats you. Se will recover. . Hopefully. Some of there handsets have been awesome..

Nice but then I just noticed no 3G. Would never buy a non-3G anymore. But looks a lot better than the 5800. And the price is nice. Oh well no 3G, won't buy.
And as a side note, all touchscreen phone look alike. The only way to get away from being called a cloner is to use a different number of buttons on the front. currently its 1 or 3. So we just have to wait for somebody to innovate and do 2 buttons.
Posted by kwabs2006
Hmm.. And what about the cpu and ram specs? Anyone got sth?
Posted by badassmam
Its a well spec'd phone with a 3.5mm jack that will be cheap. I told you that this would come and it is destined to sell very well. All other companies do this phone but for a £100 more. Some of you guys don't fancy it but you should appreciate how smart Nokia are.
The phone is good and it does have good sound quality. Nokia have hit the jackpot with this one because its great value for money.

Theres something called balance of nature. With the inflow of haters on the rise you need a few defenders without whom this forum would be a dull place to converse in. You guys should be thankful to me.

RAM im sure is 128mb RAM i think thats standard in S60v5 , CPU could be the new 600mhz low cost CPU Nokia are using in the 5630xm and E55.
This is exactly why NOKIA are on top.

I don't think anyone is thankful, and I think that's probably because it's actually very boring to read someone blindly defending everything one brand does and pointlessly attacking everything else. You can always spot a real fanboy because they start talking about "haters" - do you know what? Haters only exist in your mind. I'm not a hater, I'm a consumer who's happened to own a string of Ericsson and Sony Ericsson phones in the past, and been very fond of the company at times. But I have eyes, I can see poor design, poor support, poor build quality, and none of those things go away just because they've got a Sony Ericsson badge on them. Likewise, as much as I dislike S60 and have shunned Nokia in the past, I can appreciate the occasional good product they manage to put out. It's called having an open mind, and it's the sort of thing that can lead to a good discussion and debate on forums like this. If that's boring to you, then maybe you're in the wrong place?

Nice looking phone. I am not totally convinced about S60 v5 though. Some dumb UI decisions there... Anyway, this should be a big seller and it's a shame that SE can't put out a worthy competitor...

according to forum nokia, it uses 434MHz cpu and has FM stereo
Posted by c_vignesh
Just read in phonearena that N5630 has 600Mhz CPU
And according to gsmarena on N97 , they didnt give any encouraging remarks on s60 v5 touch capabilities

Getting back to the 5530, I think it is an attractive phone and should sell well among the many people who refuse to pay extra for 3G services and in developing nations. I guess the all the content and apps will be downloaded via a PC and synced with a USB cable then?
I can see this being another Nokia smartphone not being used as a smartphone. *sigh* Nokia still don't 'get' the iPhone do they...
Posted by GUCCI.011
Via PC OR Wi-Fi as well, S60 apps arent ridiculously large, eg. CorePlayer is around 3mb, SmartMovie is 600kb, Opera is 3mb etc. . . So downloading via GPRS/EDGE will be just fine, and whilest waiting for a download, play a game, listen to music, IM etc. . .thats what i do. Im glad they dont "get" the iPhone,or id be forced to use WM
