Couldnt find a topic on this.

Whats the difference between the two, i have just changed networks and i have a H (HSPDA) icon but not a 3G icon, can you have both or is it one or the other, and also which is better for streaming content of mobile you tube, 3g or Hspda.

Thanks

both are 3g,hspda is faster.

HSDPA is basicaly 3.5G, its faster 3G, it stands for High Speed Downlink Packet Access or something like that. In most SE phones like C902 it gets upto 3.6mbps, whereas 3G Only gets upto 384kbps.

HSDPA I have downloaded 1mb file in a few seconds its great compared to normal 3G you do notice difference in how fast downloads are.

@all
Hsdpa dl up t0 3.8mb/s
My unit is C902 in our c0untry accept techn0l0gy of hsdpa.
Ang i can dl mp4 50mb d0wnl0ad in mins sir its different in 3g.

with phones the most you'll get on 3.5g as at now is 3.6mb/s theoretically. But on modems you could reach 7.2mb/s theoretically.

Current HSDPA (3.5G) devices support down-link speeds of 1.8, 3.6, 7.2 and 14.0 Mbp/s. However, that also means your network needs to support those speeds. If your phone is capable of HSDPA means it can do it, but it depends on the network and real life condition that it actually happens, which is never. But you could go faster than 3G and UMTS.

It's one or the other.
If you get a 3G symbol you might be getting 3G or you might be getting HSDPA, it depends on whether the network provider adds the tag which triggers the symbol on your phone. Some phones display a 3G+ instead of an H.

Only voadfone branded phones show the 3g+ icon. All the unbranded se's show an H in a blue square

Weird, my K850 never shows an H even in a HSDPA area, it just says 3G ,even though i debranded it.

Sometimes you might have l0w signal.
If im h0me may signal turns edge.
While 0utside back t0 hsdpa in 0ther place 3g.
It defends on your place

the k850 has only 3g but k850i has 3.5g. You can verify from gsmarena.com.

K850i has 2G, 2.5G plus BOTH 3G and 3.5G, the K850c just has 2G AND 2.5G.
Anyway,my mates N82 displays 3.5G when there's HSDPA and his on the same network.

Orange UK branded phones show 3G+ i prefer the H.

yeah i prefer H also, but sometimes 3G is better than nothing. It always depend on your location.

i like 3G it better than HSDPA

why you say so?

HSDPA is better i think.. just looking at its capability

if you have HSDPA network then its better, else 3G is sufficient enough for mobile broadband. but if you have WiMax then you dont need both...

Technically HSDPA is same as 3G. The only difference is that there are improvement in software layers for HSDPA.

Wimax? Whats the diffence with hsdpa nd 3g?

Posted by carkitter
There are two technologies for 4G - LTE and Wimax.
LTE (Long Term Evolution) developed by Ericsson is capable of 155Mbps maximum and is what most of the networks are moving to.
WiMax is a modified version of wifi which can cover a distance up to 50 miles, but is unlikely to gain much traction. It will only prove to be a distraction from LTE much as CDMA was a distraction from GSM/UMTS/WCDMA.
You cannot connect an existing wifi device with WiMax to my knowledge.

W995 is the only SE phone in the market with 7.2mbps HSDPA and 2.0mbps HSUPA. With the latest firmware, my 3G signal will switch to HSDPA automatically everytime I connect to the internet which is great, before this it used to pick up any signal that was strongest. It downloads really fast, maximum I had was 500kb per sec but usually it's around 100-200kb depending on location and network provider, but I find the HSUPA to be especially useful with all the stuff we upload on the net these days. Couldn't upload jack with my 3G capable-P990 as it was too slow to the point that it prompts error messages from websites most of the time. Downloading was OK but only went up to 40kb per sec, max.

3G is capable up to 384Kbps downlink speeds, 3.5G/HSDPA up to 7.2Mbps the maximum theoretical rate is 14.4 Mbps. WiMax is still very slow in its deployment though it has been roll out...

i've tried WiMax connection and it has a very very low signal dropped, covers a wider area, poor in downloading, not that good in uploading, take ages to load webpages and sometimes no connection activity

it really depends on your network .

21Mbps HSDPA is available in Australia since February and VodafoneNZ is releasing a 21Mbps HSDPA upgrade in Auckland this month.

AFAIK, WiMax is still in the development stage and will be rolled out first in the US.

the only way to have either is to be in a NETWORK that supports it. I recommend talking to each about if their service support HSDPA or 3G, also make sure that your phone can support either HSDPA or 3G

Hey! Hello people out there! Thanks for this thread & to those posters who inform me about the difference of 3G & HSDPA, now I am enlightened!
