o2 near me had sold out, CPW had them and were willing to sell on PAYG but when I asked about returns policy was told there was none unless faulty.

Gutted lol really wanted to try one but its a lot of money to spend when i dont know if i would get on with the keyboard for texting, all previous touch screen phones i have used (and it has been many) have been poor with this and led to me getting rid, and I know the iphone is meant to be better for typing but I need to be able to use it for a week to see really

Do O2 offer a 14 day return on PAYG iphones if they have been used?

Can you buy a PAYG 3G S online through Apple/O2/CPW? That would have to be subject to the distance selling regulations, meaning you'd have at least 14 days (I think) by law to return, regardless of any other policy.

Otherwise, I suggest you just visit your nearest shop a few times during lunch or whatever and have a good practice on the keyboard of a demo model. It's quite unique and very effective, I find - the multitouch means it's a lot faster and more natural than other on-screen keyboards (since it can register every keypress rather than just one at any one time) and the auto-correction is excellent too. The trick with it is to trust it, rather than trying to go back all the time and correct mistakes yourself - quite often I type absolute gibberish but it works out what letters I meant to type pretty well.

Yeah I think I will be getting one on PAYG at some point but not just yet. Probably xmas time. For now I think the 3.0 update will be enough for me sadly.

Been Playing with my 32gb for a couple of hours now. Really happy, so
much faster than the 3G

What colour did you guys go for?

I've ordered a white one and now I sort of regret it coz the black looks really good too!. I'm jus wondering what the return policy is, if I dont like the phone coz of its colour, can I return and exchange it?

Did anyone see the iphone and N97 on BBC News tonight? They were reporting on them.

Camcorderinfo.com just posted a review of the iPhone 3G S from the point of view of it as a camcorder replacement. Their conclusion was:

Apple-haters, you may want to look away. The iPhone 3G S performed very, very well under our battery of tests. The color accuracy rivaled that of camcorders in its class and better, including the high definition Flip and Sony Webbie. The low light performance was impressive, making it a good choice as a party camera, considering its diminutive size.

There's no getting around the fact that the iPhone 3G S is standard definition, and not HD. To be frank, that's a major strike. Look beyond your HDTV at home; even most video hosting sites are moving towards HD, and this footage is going to look small by comparison. Perhaps Apple could allow this phone to record HD with some firmware upgrade in the future (early reports indicate the hardware is capable of 720P), but it's likely that we'll have to wait for the fourth-generation iPhone.

Engadget has the results of some web site speed tests between the iphone 3g, 3gs and palm pre and it seems the 3gs has a 21% advantage over the pre, and 122% over the 3g

I see they did the tests using wifi and I have to say I have seen the biggest improvement when using wifi as pages really do appear much quicker than they used to.

As someone who does alot of data on my phones, unfortunately the O2 3g experience is quite a bit less different between the 3g and the 3gs, though the different is still noticeable. O2 still have to bring their network up to iphone standards for us to get the most from it on 3g.

I suspect though, now that I have the 3gs as payg with my contract sim from last July, when the 18 months is up in Jan I will probably move back to tmobile which has always given me the best performance for data

Posted by Superluminova
Sounding good, all you new owner are making me jealous. Just gotta wait for either getting an unlocked one from the EU or the dev team to unlock the 3Gs.

I have to admit the wait is killing me!

Posted by JiggyJaggy
Can someone clarify, if I buy a 3GS, can I use the o2 PAYG sim with it purely for browsing? I use a Vertu onm Orange as my main phone, so the 3GS would be purely for WiFi browsing and email as at work, home and various other places I go frequently I have WiFi set up everywhere.

I would only plan to actually use the o2 sim in places where there is no WiFi. In my current iphone I dont even have a working sim in it, its only on Wifi.

ANy thoughts? Also does the PAYG o2 sim have unlimited data?

Thanks

Posted by masseur
when you buy the payg 3gs, you have to also get a minimum £10 top up on top of the purchase price, but that is just for calls/texting etc. The payg comes with 12 month free unlimited wifi and 3g and thats what I'll be using my payg sim for as I've now put my contract sim in the iphone

Just picked mine up and I love it. One problem is I cannot conect to iTunes store

White one looks a bit weird, white at the back black at the front.

Is there any cool remote control for iphones? (with pause, start, skip) Iphone headphones are one big crap, I got used to nice SE style:/ After 2 days playing with it I must say I like this os, fast speed, apps etc. But I prefered w960i music quality even with SE headphones used with iphone. I ordered Sennheisers, then I will see. On one song Common - Everywhere (v cool track;] ) when I set more bass in ipod settings, there is a lot of popping, cracking (instead beats) coming out of iphone (using built in speaker or any pai of headphones), even though it sounds great on my hifi, pc, w960.

Masseur: By free WiFi I assume you are referring to free WifI through O2 when I am out and about in public places. I take it I can still connect to my own Wifi connections free of charge with using the sim's connection? Thanks

Posted by masseur
your own wifi is free, of course, but O2 also offer wifi through partners such as The Cloud and BT Openzone. Also, after your first connection to each partner service where you key your phone number in, the connection is automatic.

Posted by JiggyJaggy
Perfectly explained. So great, I have my own WiFi at home and in the office, and 3G WiFI through O2/partner networks when I am out and about. Then I can continue using my trusted Vertu just for calls and sms with Orange. Wahoo, fantastic Masseur, thanks for clearing it up.

Might go an collect a 32gb 3GS from Apple in Dubai tom.

Am I the only one who thought where is my I-phone beegees?

Hi can anyone tell me if the iPhone 3GS has a TFT screen? I have been trying google but can't find the info anywhere

Just want to know as it means I can see it in sunlight. This will prove important with the Tom Tom holder and app on a sunny day.

Posted by masseur
I can't be sure what the screen technology is, though I assume its TFT

but more importably, I use my iPhone outside alot of the time and can't recall having any problem seeing the screen outdoors, though of course, in extreme sunlight you may need to put the iPhone in your own shadow. Its not something to worry about IMHO

Posted by apolloa
Thanks masseur, it does seem very strange the info isn't out there? I would also assume it's TFT. Glad to know it's readable in sunlight. I just may get one tomorrow, day off work, so long as my PAC code comes, if it doesn't can I call Orange and request it at all? I think it was Friday but maybe Thursday when I requested it.

I'm still loving it but I've got a little issue. Any help would be great.

Right I've decided to to manually manage my music because I have more than the phone can hold.

I've made a couple ringtones because I can't stand the default ones. When I tick the "sync ringtones" box it tells me it's going to delete all my music. WTF is that? Why does it want to delete my music?

Posted by masseur
@apolloa, get it tomorrow anyway. don't wait! you can soon call O2 with your pac code as soon as it arrives

@coxy, I also manage my own music but I don't have that option checked. I have created my own playlist for what I want on the iphone (called my music) and in the "music" tab of itunes, I specifically choose that, and purchased music, and thats all I get on the iphone

maybe try that?

I don't use ringtones as all my phones always are on vibrate only

Posted by SE-Naz
Its due to the way you have set up sync...

What I tend to do is set it to manual...

Then drag and drop what I need to, its so easy this way and no hassle... I have experienced this, since then being doing it this way...

Hope this helps

Cheers

So in the summery tab what should I have ticked?

Thanks in advance guys

Posted by SE-Naz
Tick manual... if you want to do it the way I do...

Cheers
ENJOY

Posted by Coxy
Yep I've got it like that.

The issue is how to get custom ringtones onto the phone. Because when I go into the ringtones tab and tick sync ringtones it says it's going to delete all my music!

Posted by SE-Naz
Goto ringtones, top left side and drap and drop them, but first switch sync off in the ringtones tab while the phone is connected...

For music I made a playlist and put all my music in there and drap the playlist... what you have done is ticked sync for the music in the tab, correct???

Try this

Cheers
ENJOY

iPhone 3GS sales top one million (Retuters)

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Apple Inc sold more than 1 million units of its newest iPhone, the 3GS, in the first three days of launch, the company said on Monday.

Posted by Barachus
lol ...so it wasnt quite the failure that many were hoping for

Posted by julias
1 Millon is quite an achievement well done Apple

Posted by jcwhite_uk
1 Million is quite an achievement. I am sure it would have been a lot more if pricing had been sensible.

Posted by julias
This has shown that the so called credit crunch hasn't affected iphone sales in any way or has it?

Well I took your advice, I called Orange and got my PAC code, one problem today though. Three O2 shops near me and not ONE of them had the white PAYG 16GB model in stock!!!!!!!! haha, waiting till Thursday I hope now......

Any news on when Carphone Warehouse will get PAYG in? I'm assuming that as it's still not on the website is won't be any time soon?

Thanks ares.

is there no Apple store near you?

anyway... what A2DP headset are people using? I like the new included headset with volume control but would now prefer a BT headset and have not used one since the DS970

Posted by apolloa
Haha, unfortunately not, the nearest Apple store is 60 miles away, my nearest O2 is 12 miles! I would order it online but even that say's ships in 2 day's, that's not worth it as that's Friday or later when I get it. I can wait though, just.
The Carphone Warehouse is in the same town as my nearest O2 but seeing as they don't have PAYG yet that's a moot point anyway.

Can someone say something about the battery life? how long does it last with normal/power use?

Posted by masseur

Well done that man the 4Gb iPhone!
My point is Apples definition of what a cutting edge device is seems to change with increasing regularity and the damn thing still trails in the wake of the competition! only my HO but I know a lot of people who bought into the iPhone concept and all of them feel they were mugged, BUT I am certain we shall be told we are of course wrong! But I suppose that interface is worth all the iPhones other failings right! BTW why do so many of my mates moan about their iPhones?
