is in russian just use google translate
it's a N86 review and a comparasion between N86 and Innov 8
anyway my opinion is that the Innov8(and renoir) are still the best daylight shooters
Innov 8 haves better details than Nokia N86 in almost all areas the only thing nokia does better are the colours
N86
Innov 8
N86
innov 8
you can find more pics in the link above

Another point-and-shoot...
Why configurations???
Posted by GUCCI.011
WOW! The Sam captures lots more detail

Totally disaster with wide lens.

It's amazing how things have turned out in the camphone stakes. Exciting I must say!
SE lost its crown with the K850i, Nokia took over and now Samsung is on top.
I still see Samsung at the top in the 12mp category when they announce their real flagship not just stop gaps like the Pixon.
Posted by Luci'sPower
don't forget LG which is really close to samsung
Posted by Dups!
I don't know, Luci'sPower. They need to prove themselves IMO, I haven't really been that impressed in their camera capabilities. There are signs that they can be quite good but for me they still haven't reached their destination.

mail.ru samples are slightly better imo.
http://mobile.mail.ru/reviews/nokia/Nokia_N86-rev.html
but samsung's cam is impressive which provides a lot of detail consistently.
Posted by Luci'sPower
yeah your right
but the samsung is still better

Innov8 beats N86 again now in Gsmarena preview
http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_n86_8mp_preview-review-364p5.php

Every 8mpx camera phone will beat n86...
N82 still the best on nokia.
Posted by Raiderski
strength of N86 lies in low-light shots
8910 and N86
8910 and N86
besides I don't think that shots in daylight are weak. honestly, aren't you exaggerating a bit?

Totally disaster with wide lens
ok, but what did you expected? angle of view is larger - the intended effect is achieved, that's all. "totally disaster" because of what? if you meant only wide-angle effect then I agree, fixed wide lens is crazy idea and shouldn't be used. however if you meant something with the quality of the image then I don't get your point

GSMarena have tended to get worse results from Nokia's camphones lately than other reviewers. In their E75 review they called the camera 'scandalously poor' while for example tnkgrl said:
Color balance, exposure, and level of detail are fantastic, especially in daylight – in fact, the E75 camera performance approaches that of the 5 megapixel N85/N79 camera.
And with the samples she posted at Flickr it's easy to agree.

N86 is not bad, but comparing with best 8 mp. cameraphones (Renoir and Innov8) is way behind with resolved details
N86
Renoir
Innov8
Posted by Raiderski
ok, but they are lost because of larger angle of view, so nothing wrong
Posted by -PERFECT-
I know, if this is the result what is the purpose of the wide angle? I believe it could be nice for videos, not for pics considering that there isn’t an optical zoom.
This "innovation" is really disappointing IMO, i hold tight the sharpness of my Renoir

nothing else to add, awkward idea

Review of N86 on www.gsmarena.com
Posted by Luci'sPower
now can someone tell me how the hell N86 won the TIPA AWARD? When everybody is saying its behind almost all the 8MP cameraphones(and it's not even close to the renoir and innov8) + it wasn't even released, nobody had used it, and still won that award ?????TIPA Awards are just dead for me right now....
here is another review http://www.phonearena.com/htm[....]-Review-review-r_2203-p_4.html again N86 almost dead in the camera department

Lol,this is why i never follow these awards. Remember the W910 being voted 3gsm mobile of the year? SE's clear whatever "audio technology"? ,Samsung G810 being awarded camera phone of the year? etc. . . . N86 just seems like a updated N85, simply testing the waters with the new lense tech, its not meant to be an Imaging flagship, its EXACTLY what the N95 was.

So true. From day one I have suspected that N86 would be another N96 - only this time touted as a half-decent "replacement" for N85 instead of N95. The numerical namesake even tells it all!

Not hard for Nokia to send them a unit to test.

From gsmarena.com:
“On the negative side wide-angle lens aren't as suitable for photographing portraits from close range as people's faces turn out unnaturally distorted. It's not that 35mm is that great for making portraits either but 28mm is even worse.
Another disadvantage of the 28mm lens is that fitting more stuff in the same frame means that the things in it are actually smaller (described by fewer pixels, if you wish) and if you don't need the extra angle of view you are losing some scene detail.”
So what’s the point to use this type of lens? At least there isn’t any point for me to use it. May be I’ll accept that disadvantage if it takes brilliant pictures but it isn’t. I doubt future firmware update how much will help.
Posted by Raiderski
if I'm closer than 2 meters to subject then it's mainly because of close macro. I won't even recognize whether the flower/butterfly is distorted or not. I love landscapes and city architecture where 28mm is salvation. portraits? faces? never because even my K800 (wide 35mm) distorts a lot. portraits are not for cameraphones until they won't be able to go above 100mm. so, N86 sucks in portraits? nope, N86 in next cameraphone which sucks in portraits. nothing new
Posted by Luci'sPower
true !still this phone is not what everybody expected......and the shame is that this is the only 8MP phone from nokia and if you have an N958gb and a n82 you wouldn't have nothing to upgrade(in the last 19 months nothing new)
Posted by gtr83
Their focus for the past year or so has been on the development of N97, perhaps?
Posted by GUCCI.011
Not just N97, NOKIA are just in some weird testing phase right now, everything of theirs is like some kinda Beta product. They are busy with so much: S60v3 fp2 and v5 Touch, Ovi in general with all their internert services, they are on a firmware updating spree just today The N96, N97 and it seems E51 as well got an update, and in the past 2weeks the E90, N79 and N85 were updated, i think the N81 and N82 may get updates as well, and the rest of their s60v3s in the coming weeks. Also working on Ngage, working on their Maemo Linux upcoming Internet Tablet, N900 which is an absolute beast that maybe a phone, working on Linux smartphones, using 4diff hardware platforms in their smartphones etc. . . I wonder what the hell they're upto, cause right now it looks like they're just testing things, giving us Beta just like they did with the 1st s60v3s (3250,N91 and N80).
