Q: what kind of MP3 is this one from Sony?

Sony x series...

Sony nw-x1030 or x1060 (one is 16gb, other is 32gb)

@oli
If you ask yourself why do i ask so ... 5 years ago I bought myself a sony MP3 the NW-HD3 (see picture) ,it was ok, I thought so cos i did not have anything to copare it with. few month later I got my W800i...and it's walkman part was much better the mine Sony MP3 player, not only the sound but also the volume was 3-4 steps higher,my phone took it's place..
what I am asking is how is the sound of your Aino compare to the MP3 player, can he also take the place of your player?

2 & 3. Unfortunately I have no playlists or lengthy media files on mine just yet, so I can't test this right now.
Perhaps someone else will help you but if not, I will try to tomorrow if I get a chance.

With the two to three minute long music files I currently have on mine, touching the progress bar to fast forward is completely instant so I doubt there will be any problems, but I will try to find out anyway. The touchscreen side of the phone is very responsive and fast.

I can confirm that you can shuffle a playlist & Fast forward in touch works like a charm in media menu, music or video whateva

Can anyone make a screen comparison between aino and the W995?... one pic would do

Thanks!

What does the new firmware bring to the fore?

Posted by 10123
Nice phone, not sure wether i can buy this, the phone is overpriced to the max. The aino is £360 and the Satio is £400, only £40 difference, not really worth buying the aino when i can the Satio which (specs wise) is wayyy better, what do you think i should go for?

Posted by se_dude
It is actually the Satio which is underpriced and the other way round. The aino is priced perfect IMO. Satio, sim-free is 100 pounds more.

Thanks for all the replies, There really isn't much wrong with this phone is there?

Only 2 more (simple) questions

1. Does the Aino have Mass Storage Mode? ie Windows recognises it automatically and installs it

2. Can you answer a phone call/hang up a phone call by sliding the phone open/shut?

Almost. It's the NW-X1050 and that's the 16GB.

It definitely could for many people, and you'll find it is miles a head of the W800i. For me it probably wouldn't because mobile phones never quite match mp3 players for sound quality, which is what I'm after. Most people probably wouldn't mind though.

1. Yes it does.

2. Yes you can. You have the option to disable or enable this if you want to. You can also answer calls using the touch screen.

Thanks, I am completely inexperienced with A200 so I need to check everything before I make a mistake and buy a phone I know nothing about

One (well, two) last question for me regarding the Alarms

I read that A200 supports 5 alarms with each being able to be set for multiple days, recurrences etc individually (ie I can have 3 alarms with one set for 7:30 on 3 days of the week, another set for 6:30 on 2 days of the week and another one at 6:00 on 2 days of the week for example)

A good alarm is a very important feature for me and this is one area where my 5800 does not disappoint, it allows unlimited alarms but I don't need that many (although the setup I have above requires 7 different entries in my phone)

Would someting like the setup above be possible on the Aino? and when it goes off can you use the touchscreen or do you have to slide the phone open to turn it off?

Posted by NightBlade
Yes, you can do that, but I think it's still limited to 5 entries.

You can have the 5 different alarms with Aino and it can be controlled using the touchscreen. You have a snooze button or an alarm off button. The alarm off button is a 'touch slider' much like keylock on an iPhone so you can't accidentally turn your alarm off.

You've got answer of your other questions about that question, No i dont think there is anything wrong with the phone... Not a single phone in market which is "perfect"... You can think what is important for you Aino has good camera, great mp3, huge screen, touch in multimedia, awesome design, bluetooth headset etc

Start up image? Do you mean SE logo as start up image??? If yes, then yes it's an animation image with more colours

Posted by mediar
No, I mean after you enter your password. And not just an animation, but a Flash ( .swf ) animation.

I wish I knew. I don't have a flash animation to test it with. It does support videos in the startup screen.

Yes my Sony sounds better than Aino. There are very few phones in the world that can match the sound quality of a dedicated MP3 player, just like very few phones match the camera picture quality of a dedicated compact digital camera. So I don't expect any phone to be the highest quality, but for a phone Aino is very good.

My Sony Walkman is considered by reviewers to be one of the best in the world for sound quality, so I hardly think a phone would match or beat that!

It doesn't. Aino comes with several flash animations preinstalled in the pictures folder so I attempted to set one as the start-up screen but there was no option to do so unfortunately, even when going through the display options menu.

Aino beat the X-series Walkman? Not a chance, it's THE portable music player atm. It could though, come close or even match some of the other Sony Walkman models. I know my W995 can.

Posted by roanmy
How's the slider? I have the W995a... Mine wobbles a bit, sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less. Back cover is also kinda strange, not the best build quality imo.

How is it with the Aino? I know there have been some posts on it, but now that people has had it for a while, it might give a better picture of it.

thats is what i was reading about your player ... but as i wrote my old MP3 from sony was not as good as the player in the W800i ... so i was hoping the Anio did have the best player too

Posted by vegetaleb
It's a marketing strategy, if Sony accept that SE phones have same or better mp3 quality than dedicated Sony Mp3 players,so nobody would buy dedicated mp3 players! Same thing for cameras...
Personally I never used a phone as mp3 player,I have a premium quality player : Samsung P2 (and hopefully P3) and I pair it using bluetooth with my phone so I never miss a call

My slider wobbles a little in a rocking motion but only when it's open. When it's closed it's snug as a bug. There's no sideways or rotating wobble like on my C905, but it does feel like it rattles a little when it's open and I'm holding the keypad (e.g. when texting) I think it's because of the huge screen sliding a long way.

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
My slider is very very solid. The most solid I've experienced on a phone. There is the slightest movement but we're talking 10ths of a millimeter, that sort of thing. I think it would be near impossible to make a slider that has absolutely no movement anyway. So I am very pleased.

The back cover is a snap-on style with no chance of movement unless you broke the little plastic tabs off, so it's very good too.

Well I took the plunge & did the new firmware update last night.

I have not noticed any major additions but have definatley noticed a lot of speed improvement with regards to menus & "saving" after taking a picture with camera.

The touchscreen media player also seems a lot more stable & doesn't stutter like it used to.

Other than that I can't see any difference.

The biggest annoyance for me which they still haven't added back in to the software is the option to change messages from "activity menu" to "pop up".

Which CDA kaizerp900? Not available Nordic unbranded

It was always there I've RB....49 & I've that option

There is already an interactive simulator of Aino at Sony Ericsson's site! Sadly, it doesn't work very well...

I am thinking if I should get the US Aino to upgrade from my W995a. I can get it for around $443 from SonyStyle though a friend who works there. But, I am debating if it's worth even at $443 as phones like LG Cookie, and several Samsungs with full touch screens can be had for less than $200 these days. I only reason I am considering Aino is because I am biased for SE products because of their nice styling and cool interface which is so easy to make calls because of Smart dialing, excellent call logs and most of all they sell so less which makes my phone unique and rare among friends. But I am worried I might feel stupid to have spent $443 on an half-baked phone with no 3.5mm headphone jack.

A phone should have no issue matching a dedicated MP3 player, it is nothing like a dedicated camera vs. cam phone.

You're quite wrong there. For most people a phone will be ok and some won't even be able to tell the difference, but someone who demands very good audio quality will not settle for a mobile phone. And I'm not sure if you missed it, but the Sony X series Walkmans are considered one of the best available mp3 players. Read a few reviews if you don't believe me.

I have added some pictures : only a few were diplayed !
Thanks

Take your X-series walkman, add a dialpad and mic, see what I did there?

Their is no current technological limitation that would decrease the quality of a phone/mp3 vs a dedicated mp3. That does not mean your X-series doesn't sound better then most of the phones around, but that is because the manufacturers stick cheaper components into the phones, and not because you cannnot get excellent sound quality in a phone/mp3 player equal to any dedicated mp3 player.

Plus your X-series walkman cannot play lossless audio, so if you're a true audiophile that notices the nuances between a w995 and say your X-series I am surprised you wouldn't notice the greater difference between lossless and the lossy codecs Sony supports.

Ah I see what you're saying now. You're right, there's no reason why they can't make a phone sound the same as an dedicated player, but they don't. It's all to do with profiteering I suspect. If they make all phones as good at playing music as a proper player, then they'll sell no mp3 players. That's why for so long Sony Ericsson wouldn't blend Cyber-shot and Walkman into one phone.

In regards to lossless audio, I'm not that serious about my audio quality. I'd like to have the best quality possible, but I prefer to have a balance between quality and file size. Lossless would mean I wouldn't be able to fit much of the music I want onto my player.

Does anyone know anything about a recall on the Aino ?
One of my customers have just been contacted by Phones4u asking them to bring their Aino back to the store as they are being recalled. They didn't say what the recall was for. Just wondering if anyone has heard anything.

A product recall mate. Where a manufacturer finds a major problem/defect and issues a recall of the item to get the problems fixed. Happens regularly with some car and toy manufacturers and is covered under warranty. Sometimes all units are recalled or more often a specific batch number based on either serial code or production date.
Would be interested if anyone knew anything about it. Have just been bought a ps3 for my birthday so was thinking of an Aino myself.

there's nothing on the phones4u website, the SE website, nor indeed the whole of google that I can find, that mentions a recall of the aino... so lets not get carried away based on a single 3rd party report

It seems very likley, how many adverts have you seen for the aino? None
How many adverts have you seen for the Satio? A lot

Also Phones4u had it available to buy and now it has dissapeared, and so far no networks have advertised the aino and you cant buy an aino online from any of the operators only CPW.

The Aino is advertised in this months O2 in store brochure
