Yes your right and i do look after my phones but sometimes no matter how careful you are marks still appear. I remember the t610 cloth i had that phone for ages loved it

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Yeah I remember the T610i cloth, my sister had one. I'm trying to remember if my Z600i came with one too...

Posted by mediar
Why there still aren't interactive simulators for Aino and Yari on 's site?

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Hah that's funny, I was just looking for the exact same thing on the SE website not even 10 minutes ago!

Black Aino is in my local store for usd 540.. Waiting a price to go down a bit

I had some question:
When click menu and 12-block menu appears, could you select the menu by touching it?
2. Press Menu > Messaging.. Could you select the item (for example, draft) by touching it?

No neither work despite the fact that they look like you could touch them. That's the limited touch functionality. There is a very very slim chance that SE will update the phone to be full touch but that is very unlikely and I don't think anyone here is very hopeful.

Ive decided to get the aino, after reading some pretty lak luster reviews for the satio the aino may be the one. Hopefully the reviews will be good.

Always good to try the device before writting it off just like that or you may find yourself missing out on one of the best devices just because some random on the net didnt like it. IMO the Satio still stands a much greater chance of being a mind blowing device since it already has the best hardware: Xenon flash, powerful graphics acceleration, Operating system etc. . .it just needs a FW update or two, remember it only just got released.

I prefer the black one. I hate white phones they look cheap and get dirty or marked easier. Plus black just looks more stylish generally but thats just me Whats A3 like then anyone is it any good and whats different?

I like the black front too,but I do not like the blue strip... just for it I would take the white one.
anyway I disagree with what you say about white phones, have here an old white friend and I still think it looks wonderful

Posted by Bonovox
Its just opinion and taste. The only white phone i ever had was the w900i. It was a great phone but hated the colour but it was the only one on Vodafone at the time. I just think white makes phones look a bit cheap and toy like. The w800i was horrible with white and orange

Posted by Rookwise
@Bonovox
For the first time I think I'm going to have to disagree with you. The colours of the W800 were very nice. The white was more of a cream colour. Just off from white. I do miss my W800 as well.

Oh. Zagg now do an Invisable shield full body protection for the Aino so the white one will be kept in excellent condition if one is applied

Posted by pt020
The W800i had a very good and young taste

I'm getting the white for two reasons

1. Looks. Although the black is sexy, Aino in white is simply sexier. The only reason I'd go black is if it had that rubberised effect we've seen on black K800s and C905s.

2. Exclusivity. In the UK only O2 have it in white (and most O2 users have iPhones) so there will be very few white Ainos out there. It happened with the first limited edition silver K800, the W760 black, K850 black/green and black/silver and it will happen with Aino. It'll stand out from the crowd which is half the reason I buy new sexy phones.

I agree with pt020 et al that W800 looked good with white. White suits some phones and doesn't others but usually pick the right phones to release in white.

Posted by >500
black has rubberised back/frame. the 'polished blue' parts are either metal or very solid plastic...

Posted by hihihans
is white aino not rubberish?

Posted by Bonovox
I am definately not saying the Aino is rubbish i would love one Guess its just a matter of taste in colour. Guess also it can also mean type of build and plastics used. I seen the white LG Cookie on O2 and it looked and felt cheap. The w900i was made of nice glossy hard plastic but some white plastics can look cheap. Its just my opinion not going to argue lol

Posted by hihihans
best debater is not going to argue ? I think I have a light period. I like the white Aino and Rachael I even want my themes to be bright.

Posted by Bonovox
Yes actually i will argue YOUR WRONG only kidding I prefer my themes to be bright too but with a dark phone. The lighter colours i like are silver but alot of people say silver is boring. The silver w995 looks gorgeous but i ended up getting a black one. Like the c901 just to me looks smarter in black than Greenheart white

Posted by hihihans
As long as they don't make greenheart green btw any sign of a "Hello Kitty" Aino?

Posted by Ricky D
Black is rubberised? I'm picking up my white tomorrow so I'm going to be an immense hypocrite and say rubberised is rubbish! hehe

In all seriousness, I had K800 in black, K850 in black/blue and C905 in black and everytime I wished I had the rarer white or silver versions. Exclusivity is why a lot (before you all come in and say 'Well I buy for design..' or 'I buy for functions..' I didn't say 'all') of us here buy the newest highest tech phones and Aino in white is more exclusive. Period.

Posted by Bonovox
Lol oh no a Green Greenheart phone noooooo!! Hihi Hello Kitty? Eh your crazy man lol. Has anyone seen the new w595 Gold colour @ the Carphonewarehouse? Looks lovely. Sorry folks going off topic

Back on topic. Is GPS any good on Aino?

Posted by HxH
If I will buy AINO I would pick White too same reason with Ricky, White is simply sexier than Black IMO.

Posted by piflechien
GPS is the same as every other SE feature phones. ie: Not really good/quick to get a fix.

I don't know if I just had a lemon, but the GPS on my w995 is MUCH better then on my c905. The w995 gets signal quickly and holds it when outdoors, the GPS on the c905 was simply horrible, no matter what firmware

I find it to be the same as my HTC Dream.

Review up at Tech radar, rated 3/5 and would of been 2.5/5 if they didn't like SE

http://www.techradar.com/revi[....]ny-ericsson-aino-643257/review

We liked
We liked the simplicity of the layout and what the phone is trying to do - it's got a fairly solid build, although it feels a little long in the hand.

BBC iPlayer is always a plus, and the easy-to-use touch media interface is nice. We like the included stand and are big fans of the bundled MH100 headset, and the GPS system with a number of location based services is a nice touch.

We disliked

Sadly we disliked a great deal more about the phone, from a laggy OS when multi-tasking to an odd touch/non-touch combination.

Elements like the touchscreen seizing up, the camera taking 15 seconds to move from one picture to another and the fact the PS3 connectivity doesn't work regularly make it hard to love this phone, especially when the battery dies for the umpteenth time.

Verdict

We liked the Aino a lot when we got it out the box, and our opinion dwindled downwards from there. When the main selling point isn't fully functional (ie, the PS3 compatibility isn't up to speed) and both the camera and media player are slow to react, we're struggling to find a reason to recommend this phone.

The Sony Ericsson W995 has the same UI, but is a lot faster, and comes in a nicer chassis, has a faster camera, a 3.5mm headphone jack and crucially is around £120 cheaper to buy.

We would have given the Aino half a star less than we have, but we're still fans of the simplistic Sony Ericsson interface, and the overall package doesn't deserve to be among the worst phones of the year - we're just disappointed with the effort.

today i noticed that two guys are selling the phone here in DR and it looked very strange to me. well, one put up some pics, but the other didn't. the prices are quite cheap for what the phones are. even cheaper than the c905 which is not cheap here.

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Well my white Aino arrived and I couldn't be happier that I chose the white. It looks stunning! Haven't had a huge play round, but the new position of the space button (on the 0 key) is going to take getting used to.

Touchscreen and everything is so far responsive, but then I've only had it turned on for 20 minutes.

Posted by domipost
Congrats!

I hope your opinion won't go downwards when using the phone a bit more

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Thanks! I hope not too. One thing I thought the phone had, but mine certainly doesn't was the SMS conversation view. I was looking forward to that but it ain't here!

Otherwise all is still great.

I'm wondering, how do we make requests to SE for changes/improvements and such?
For example, I'd like to be able to turn down the screen-brightness to less than 50%, and I can't really imagine it would be a big deal to include.

I realize there are contact forms at their website, but those rarely go anywhere in my experience. So where can we send such requests, so that they'll actually be read by someone?

Unwrappped my White Aino last night. Beautiful to behold, Not too impressed with the slider. I think it was 500 who said it first that it feels not quite as tight as it could be. The dark blue edging is plastic. Mine is the HK variant and has Facebook built into the left softkey, don't know about other regional variants but I'm not sure I like it.

UI is smooth as silk. There are odd differences to the previous A200 like the settings menu is in a list rather than having the tabs for 'General', 'Display' etc etc. Also I can't find where to turn the 'new events' to 'pop-up' instead of 'activity menu' I like to have the pop-ups because they looked prettier.

Would have like to have seen pinch zooming, but maybe the capacitive screen doesn't support multitouch.

You can't press a volume button in locked mode to see the clock like you used to, you have to press the unlock key which shows a large digital clock in landscape mode.

Speaker quality is very good. So far with the camera I'm not overly impressed, but I'm used to my C905. When the slider is open the touchscreen doesn't operate, it exits the media player/camera and goes back to the standby screen.

The built-in browser is better than the older version, but I haven't noticed tabbed browsing and it doesn't work with the touchscreen.

Gmail app works with touchscreen but the icons are a little small to use fingers with, switching to large fonts may help, haven't tried it yet.

Opera Mini 5 beta works with touchscreen and is really nice, really really nice!

The screen is a bit fingerprinty.

can you guys post pics of your white aino please?

tell us more about the speed of UI and the sound quality when playing mp3s, as well as camera performance please

Posted by sambouka
The phone looks and feels great.

Very good slider no wobble at all (better than my W995)

Great screen, beautiful colors/contrast

Physical keyboard is a bit small, but with very good feedback

Touch screen when in media style (keyboard closed) is very responsive.

I tried Opera MINI 5
It uses another interface than the one on W995.
It is not very much responsive, lots of missclicks, the virtual keyboard is useless. I hope the final version will fix/enhance touch use.

I also tried  SNAPTU and I Highly recommand it to all users : it's a great tool and has an excellent touch response !

Wifi
Very good catch, quick. Better than W705 & W995 (which was very good)

GPS
worked inside my office! But seems to searching for sattelites when I tried it on foot...

Menu navigation

beautiful themes and icons, but kind of slow Flash menus compared to W995

Games
only 2 isntalled,no use of thouch screen and slow !

Speaker
I thought my WW995 was the loudest SE, I was wrong : Aino has great sound and is the loudest phone I ever had.

Battery life
It sucks: Not even 1 day for the first charge (100% brightness , 3G Internet ...) Maybe my battery is defective...

I am now on my second charge, it seems better but still not very good.

Music playback: did not try yet

Remote play

Tried at home using my network : music is great, videos can lag (sound quicker than image, but quality can be downgraded and it helps).
I couldn't make it work with another WIFI connection ! Did not try it with 3G

What I don't like:
- Annoying when you close the slider : touch media even if you are alreay in music playback
- Your can answer calls using touch : I think SE could have easily enabled making calls using touch too
- integrated Facebook is very slow (Using Snaptu's Facebook works like a charm)
- battery life
- having to slide the keyboard to access the navigation keys is very very disturbing

I have a generic Aino and I don't have the Facebook softkey. I have "Media" and "Search" which takes you to a Google Search. Very helpful.

Also, my slider seems very solid. No complaints there at all.

Hopefully I'll have some images up tomorrow.

What a serious omission on your unit, others sure have it:

The facebook left softkey is only availaible when the app is running in backgroound and when it is set to be used on home screen. (In the facebook app options)

Wow, that's weird. I don't see any reason why they would ever make a version with and a version without! I'm really confused about that.

regarding the facebook shortcut, mine didnt have one. bought from HK. BUT! When you had the facebook app opened and signed in, and then select minimise from the options menu, it takes you to the home screen of the phone, and facebook was then a shortcut. once the app was placed, it was no longer a shortcut.

i had ebuddy installed on the phone. ebuddy operates via touch but you need to type with the keyboard.

i had the standard SE java one installed. so was surprised to see it worked with touch. perhaps people should install some apps and see if they work with touch. and list here which ones work/dont work.

also, one thing i liked is... the phone has a sensor on it, when your on the phone, and the screen is on your cheek, screen automatically turns off, so you dont press anything with your face, and when you remove the phone from your face, screen comes on again incase you want to hang up or what ever...

Posted by mr_lou
There is SMS conversation view in my Aino. And yes, it does seem weird that it's not present in other Aino's....
Firmware R1BA049 here.

Posted by sambouka
Same here Firmware R1BA049, but no conversation style !
Phone bought from Singapore.

Posted by tranced
Regional things must be affecting the sms threaded view.

Posted by Ricky D
I have SMS conversation from HK I can't see why they wouldn't put it in.. Sambouka, are you sure you're looking in the right place?

With the facebook shortcut, I'm pretty sure my phone is unbranded as there's no branding in the software or on the box and it sold sim free. Maybe I should try a different firmware. I guess it's ok, I can live with facebook. I'm loving Opera Mini 5 with touch screen.

Did anyone find where to change the new events to pop-up instead of activity menu?

I thought it was nice to see the PC Suite and Media GO installation files preloaded on the phone. I plugged it into my computer and it offered to install from my phone, no need for CDs or downloads.

Not put any music on my phone yet, but I'm eager to see if it has the same troubles as my C905 did with bluetooth streaming music to my car stereo. It used to be a tad gittery. I shouldn't think it will be otherwise why would they bundle bluetooth streaming headset? My old issue could have been with the memory card rather than anything else.
